Does the Video and Audio Capture work with Australian TV Station(s) such as:

ABC.net.au iVIEW Service [https://iview.abc.net.au/] (similar to the United Kingdom's BBC's iPlayer [https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer])

&

SBS.com.au OnDemand Service [https://www.sbs.com.au/ondemand/]

Both of these Australian Radio and TV Networks can be accessed through most VPN programs.

QUESTiON: Any Deals or Discounts for buying a Lifetime License?

I do like what I have seen in Ant Download Manager Pro ... BUT some features from FlashGet v1.9.6 Build 1073 would make it a really GREAT T00L.

1. Personally I'd like to see History go beyond 300 entries to perhaps 3650 days/10 years.

2. A Master Log with individual logs that can optionally stay with the downloaded file.

3. Date & Time Stamp details taken from the server, for both Created & Modified Time Columns in Windows Explorer or other similar File Managers

4. A Section for Manually Added Notes to be added to the Master and individual LOGs.

5. Essentially add some of the useful features that made FlashGet v1.9.6 Build 1073 so good for its users, who still use it today - and a great many do still use Flashget. It is even used as the basis for a Download Manager with Firefox

I for one still live in hope that You'll add these extra features to your otherwise excellent DLM.

Thanks from WALLY

This version is not equal to the pro version, it is not equal nor their trial version, it has the same functions as their free version, so what is the use to offer it as a giveaway?

I am a Windows 10 (64) user.

If I start the Ant Download Manager program and then stop the program I cannot re-start the program by double-clicking on the desktop icon. A glitch?

However, if I right-click on my desktop and then click REFRESH I am then able to re-start the subject Ant program by double-clicking the Ant icon. I experienced the same program non-restart problem and desktop-refresh workaround on two different Windows 10 laptops. This glitch needs a fixed.

I have not yet tried using the Ant Download Manager program.

Will not install. I closed my AVG AV but still won't install. All I get is an "activation successful" popup, but no program installed. Any ideas?

Reply   |   Comment by Craig  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-1)

Craig,
It probably didn't install because your anti-virus software already killed the initial download.
Cripple your Anti-Virus program, download ADM Pro again then reinstall
If you're still having issues, boot into safe mode with networking, then do the steps I mentioned above.

I have not downloaded or installed this version (yet) but I did want to add my $0.02 worth in here that I have used the freeware version in the past and it did help with large download very well. I'm now very retired and don't download actual movies like I used to, but Ant Download is worth the effort if you do download, say 100MB+ files all the time. Looking forward to this - Thanks GOTD for this one! - WT

SpacemanSpiff, if that is happening in most of cases, is due to antiviruses in your computer, so try to disable all antiviruses for a few minutes of installation then after that allow it.

Audio ,
As far as I know the safe mode is used for trouble shooting issues like freezing, crashing , etc.
So my question is as follows:
is it safe to use the safe mode when installing a third party (non-Microsoft) program?
Just curious.

Cheers,

consuella

Reply   |   Comment by consuella  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

consuella, wouldn't recommend it in most cases because in safe mode you have no protection against anything malicious. If you do use safe mode to install you should do AV scan when you reboot. GOTD's downloads are always safe. Have you tried disabling your anti-virus before installing?

Reply   |   Comment by Robert  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

Robert,

Thank you, Robert, for your helpful reply.
I did not have a problem with the installation of this program, though.
I just wanted to know if the advice to install this, or for that matter, any other program coming from non-Microsoft, and often foreign, or unknown sources, in safe mode was warranted and safe.

I much appreciate the explanation and advice you provided.

A premium DM requires subscription for getting regular updates, in order to continue to work properly.

For those after a free alternative, JDownloader is good and open source.

I don't think it's "Pro", but it should be "Pro promo version for GAOTD", which should be crippled (speaking from "owning" the 1.6.4 "Pro promo version for..." and which is severely crippled, not only for the missing updates).

No (working) browser integration, and it didn't find anything for me, i.e. whenever would have needed a dedicated download manager to download, it didn't work either, didn't find the necessary links, from whatever site, so no use whatsoever since whenever it would have worked, free (and regularly updated) browser add-ins did the job as well.

As bad as Ant: Wondershare AllMyTube (number 1 on toptenreviews, hope they paid them well for that) and Neo; almost perfect: IDM (25$ incl. 3 years of updates). After my disappointment with the above-mentioned "free" (but worthless" Ant, and my unsuccessful trials with AllMyTube and Neo, I trialed IDM, and quickly bought it, and I then quickly discovered I should have bought that one many years ago, instead of fiddling around with various others, all grossly inferior solutions.

It's interesting. I have two desktops. One is running Win 8.1 pro and the other a dual boot with Win 10 pro and XP pro. When I'm uploading youtube videos XP is the only OS that doesn't give me a hard time. I'm sure there's a reason why the other OSs balk with youtube vids, but as long as XP keeps working I have no need to troubleshoot. :)

Windows XP is the third most used OS,Win 10 is second to windows 7

shegeek72, Because it is far better, a hundred million people still use and prefer it.
Also if you update, a lot of other programmes will not work unless you update them too or they cannot be updated.

Reply   |   Comment by Laxative  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-2)

shegeek72,

Why are you still using XP? :)
Because I don't use my computer to just check e-mail and browse the web. I use it for many other things.

I have had every Microsoft OS, that runs on the standard Intel (or compatible processors), from DOS 1.0 to Windows 10, and even including Xenix. I have been a programmer for over 40 years, so I understand why many users use XP. I use Win 7 mostly, and every so often, check something out on Windows 10. Pretty much 24 hours a day, I have an XP OS running as well.

Due to XP being around for so long that it became very stable, a lot of my software is licensed and installed on an XP OS. Some of those programs are very expensive, due to what they accomplish, and are very specialized. Many of those programs are not licensed to be transferred to another OS, so I have a choice of purchasing another license, or keep running it on the OS that it has always run on just fine. Again, economics. My 64-bit XP computer can have the same amount of addressable memory as any other 64-bit Windows OS. The hardware is the latest that can handle XP. It is not possible to install XP on some modern motherboards, but can often run just fine, and the same for a virtual machine on recent hardware.

Other users may have other reasons or using XP. Some have have hand-me-downs and others may have hand-me-ups. I know of some seniors that their children gave them their old XP computer. It works fine for checking their e-mail and doing some browsing. They are from the generation that did not waste. Some could not afford to purchase anyting different, and of those that could, why would they want to? It does what they want already.

Asking why someone why still uses XP makes no more sense than asking the guy at the car show why he still drives a 1957 Chevy. Right now you are getting that odd look, and maybe they realize no answer will get through. I love when someone aske me, just so I can do what I am doing right now.

Just because someone wants software to run on an XP computer does not make them the fool. They probably have a more stable machine than than the ones laughing at them. I find that those that question why someone is using XP are either younger, or more naive about computers; otherwise, it seems they would know already. If that does not apply, then all that is left is the XP Bashers. GOTD has no need for bashers of any OS.

PhilS,

>Realistically though, you would not expect any application produced in 2018 to support such an old OS.
The "you" you refer to is not "me" for sure.

And why should an application not support XP? There are tons of programs that can run on XP as well as run on Windows 10. The architecture is not all that different. It depends on the compiler used. If the compiler can produce an executable that will run on XP, Vista, 7, 8, and 10, why not include the XP market? If the compiler is a Microsoft product, then it will not produce an executable that will run on XP. Microsoft is intentionally blocking the XP OS. Other than that, there is no reason a program developed in 2018 should not work on XP.

As you are about to see, a lot of developers do make their programs work on XP. It comes down to the money. The XP market place is still very huge. The only reason you would shut that off is if you already have plenty of money (e.g., Microsoft) and/or would like to encourage every XP user to purchase a license for a new OS. The software developers of the world would not make any money if someone did or did not purchase a new OS license; in fact, it means that the customer would have less money to spend on their product. These other developers want to take advantage of that market share. It wouldn't matter what version of OS the user has as long as it is 32-bit at least. That is why there are still many programs being developed today that work just fine on XP.

I decided to check GOTD offers to see which ones still support XP. Many still do support XP. If I had listed the programs for all categories, it would be 332 entries long. Here is the list of the video only category:

Gary, Just because some might do, does not mean that others should.

Nobody would expect Windows 95/98/ME because they are too old and no longer supported by Microsoft in any way.

It's just more realistic to support 7 and onwards.
