Requested the registration code OK and received it along with the giveawayoftheday username. Registered OK on Windows 10 64bit. Tried to convert a few video files. Crashed each time after about 30 seconds. Uninstalled. Will stick to using Movie Studio 13.0 for the time being.

Here's a possible solution if the Adoreshare Video Converter Genius 1.5.0 GUI does not appear when you try to run the program.

I downloaded and installed today's giveaway on a laptop running on Windows 7 (32-bit) with a screen resolution of 1440 x 900. As several previous users have commented, when I double-clicked on the program's desktop icon, the program's GUI did not appear. Checking the Windows Task Manager showed a running process, Video Converter Genius.exe, with about 50% CPU usage.

Using the task manager, I ended the process. Then I tried to run the program as an administrator. I also tried to run it after changing the program's compatibility settings, but the GUI still wouldn't appear. But a simple display adjustment let the program's GUI appear and work.

The reason the program's GUI wasn't appearing on my laptop was that I had my display set to enlarge text and other items on the screen. I was using the "Medium - 125%" setting. After I changed the display setting to "Smaller - 100% (default)" and logged off then logged back on to make the change take effect, the program's GUI ran easily. When I switch the display back to the "Medium" setting, the program's GUI will no longer run.

Anyone else having trouble getting today's giveaway to work should try changing their display to the default 100% setting. Of course, it shouldn't be necessary to do that to use a program, and the developer should fix the program so that it will work no matter what display setting is being used. But for now, that's the only way that I've found to make Adoreshare Video Converter Genius 1.5.0 work on my laptop.

BTW, I didn't have trouble reading the program GUI's text at the default 100% display setting. I did try using the program to convert two very short videos, and it seemed to do an adequate job.

P.S. GOTD is giving away version 1.5.0 of the program as stated on this page.

Downloaded and registered on win 10 home edition. I tired converting a 165 mb mp4 movie to a HD VOB vob was 1.38 gbs. This was done in what I consider excellent time of app 4.5 minutes. The movie has a very good quality. Over all i rate the software to be what it claims to be and possibly a little better. I recommend it. The reason for the vob, I want to burn it to a dvd to play on a regular dvd player. Thanks for the software.

I don't know why so many people are having issues with this program. For me, it was easy. Downloaded the program, ran setup, used the link in the readme text file to obtain the reg code which includes Licensed E-mail: and Registration Code: information. I got the email almost instantly. After the program finished installing it asked for registration information which I obtained from my email addy. I entered it into the required fields and the program registered fine.

The GUI is not that bad meaning it's not too complicated nor too simple. It's good for beginners in converting video files. I took an flv movie I had (size 469 MB) and converted it to XViD (AVI container) and in the program window, it said the conversion would be 1.23 GB??? My settings were all pretty much "Original' with the bit rate being 1500 kbps which is normal for an XViD conversion to look halfway decent. For me, this is horrible compression and most of the other choices I had on the scrolling Convert To strip didn't fair better. Other than that, the conversion looked pretty damn good. I used XViD because it's pretty hard to get a descent looking video conversion in that format but it came out just fine. Even the audio sounded perfect next to the original flv file.

I'd recommend this program to anyone who wants to learn how to convert files albeit video or audio. Most other similar programs that I consider excellent converters have an installation executable of about 50 MB or higher so with Adoreshare's Video Converter Genius's install executable coming in at 18.5 MB, there has to be a lot of important missing features like descent video compression which this program seems to lack. Other than that, I'd say it's not a bad little converter at all. From all the comments I've read, I was expecting a disaster but it was anything but that. This GOTD converter works just fine, IMHO.

My only beef is the file compression sucks but if that doesn't bother you then you have a pretty descent converter.
BTW, I ran this on Windows 7 Ultimate (x64) Operating System. My machine is considered old by todays standards as I only have 8 gigs of RAM at 700 and a mediocre graphics card which is a GeForce GTS 450 and a Core 2 Duo E8400 running at 3.00 GHz. So if you have a better machine, I can only imagine how much faster the conversion times must be.

[ Harry ], yes, but Tenorshare has always been sloppy, every company has different avenues of marketing, it IS v1.5.0 from BOTH sources, GiveAwayOfTheDay and AdorShare, and when it works, it works, so give it a try and let us know how it stinks when it's working for you.

Another Tenorshare product, which I find to be unpredictably wandering between working and failing products.

I get no on-screen window.

Inspecting with free SysInternals Process Explorer, I see that it opens 4 ports in the 418xx and 419xx range for TCP and TCPV6, mapped to ports 8080 and 443, addresses:

TCP us-mo-1.free.ip-api.com:http
TCP li1043-228.members.linode.com:8080
TCPV6 li1043-228.members.linode.com:8080
TCPV6 self:443

They go from ESTABLISHED to CLOSE_WAIT to LAST_ACK to ... disappear.

I can click on the program icon / executable, and all I get is more copies in memory with no window, each trying to open a different set of 4 ports.

The .ini file says

productID=218
versionID=301

The web page says v1.4.0
GiveasayOfTheDay says v1.5.0

This program is from November 2017, so you'd think it would be well tested with loads of feedback from at least a variety of users with a variety of PCs ...

I have Windows 7 64 Pro with admin rights.

I think it may not be ready for prime time yet -- Nerf Putty.

I'm glad it appears to work for some folks, who know if you have version of support programs like VC VB iTunes whatever.

----------

The have 400+ .png files in the program subdirectories, so I can now see why these programs cannot resize their windows to fit our screens: they are PICTURES, not programs!

It worked in SAFE MODE, so I presume there's a hardware / software driver that gets stuck with this software on some computers causing the software to never show a window on screen.

There are other converters, so I'm not troubleshooting to find the glitch.

[ Phoe ], yes, it seems to take longer to convert than to watch the video directly -- NOT a prime choice for batch-en-smallening ( ? ) any of my 20,000+ video collection that are 1080i/p or larger down to 720i/p ( because I prefer smaller files and more disk more for more movies rather than identifying facial hair and pores ).

Heck, even 480i/p presents just fine on our 55" screen.

[ joey ],

Microsoft IE Internet Explorer is integrated into Windows.

Did you know that Maxton is an ad hoc design that is based on and extending Microsoft IE Internet Explorer?

Maxthon has compatibility modes, try them all.

And Maxthon has older versions, try them all.

I also "browse" using Adobe Acrobat Writer's [ Get URL ] feature.

Why do you prefer exclusively to use Maxthon, a browser that fails to functionally interpret some web pages ( all browsers fail somewhere ), and a browser phones home to Beijing, China, reporting your browsing behavior?

No browser requires "installation", as all can be run from thumb drives or CDs or stand-alone subdirectories with no calls to your computer's registry or file system -- what's your objection?

Thanks.

Hi All. Well Downloaded, installed on Win7 Pro 64 Bit, Added the License All Works!
Converted a couple of Videos, yeah worked OK. NOW i remember my Brother used to have Problems when Installing
Software on his two Machines and they would Install fine, BUT not run after Double Clicking on Shortcut etc.
Maybe that's whats going on here with some Users?? This may work for you as it did for him after i showed him.

1. after unzipping the .EXE file (setup file)
Right Click on file and choose Properties, Click on the Compatibility Tab. at the Bottom (Privilege Level) Click the small box which says Run this program as an administrator, Then Click Apply, and Then Click on OK. (closes Box).

Now install as Normal. Should now work (Hopefully lol )
That's for Win7, Win 10 should be the same as i recall

Also you could just right Click on the .exe and choose Run as Administrator, without going to the Properties Box, (but sometimes i found for some unknown reason some software was less successful doing it that way. So i found it Best to go through the Properties and the Compatibility Tab to make the Software run in Administrator mode.

Also you do the same with other GOTD Softwares's Setup .exe files INCLUDING the GOTD Protected Wrapped Setup .exe File (the one that Needs the Setup.gcd file with it), (you don't need to run the setup.gcd file as Admin)
I usually put the setup exe and setup.gcd on the Desktop and install from there, that's just me, as long as both files are Together,
But Today's Software there is no setup.gcd file so all the Better.

So Hopefully that maybe the Problem Some Users are having when Program won't Run after double Clicking the Programs Shortcut etc, So Basically Run as Administrator when installing.
Also by going through the Properties to run as Admin, it makes it easier to install with Revo Uninstaller or other Uninstall Programs.
i better stop Babbling on, and hope that will work for you all, it stopped my Brother Moaning to me all the Time lol.

Mike,
The Verification Code i got showed 3 + 5 = ?
i just put in 8 as the answer. just the single number 8 nothing else, and it worked.
i was worried as i have had this Maths type of Verification Before and had nothing but trouble, even doing this the same way i just done! but this time a single Digit number worked (the answer).
So i can't give any other type of help on this type of verification code process. (sorry).

Also i noticed Jose has an Answer as well which maybe the Problem at hand? about Changing the Screen Resolution to get the Program Working. Read Jose Answer above to find out,
Good Luck.
Oh by the way Program is Simple to use, good simple Screen GUI (Menu) with very few Adjustments for Video, makes good for quick Conversions, But the Bit Rate Maximum is only 3000 up to 4500 or 5000 would have been better, but 3000 is good for Quick Conversions i Guess.

Mike,
Sorry did not read your Question properly.
You need to Download the Program First from the GOTD Link (Download Now), Once you download the program you get the Link to the Verification Page from the readme Text. You get the License Code once you pass the Verification Code Process, Sent to the Email you Supply. The Actual Program and readme are in the GOTD download Zipped File.
Once Installed and you run the Program a Box will appear in front of the Programs GUI, where you add the Supplied License Number and Email (USE the email that CAME with the License. here is the Link to the Verification Page to get the License.

[ Mark ], thanks, but it failed to create a window on screen after installation -- on Windows 7 64 Pro ...

I rebooted into SAFE MODE, and it worked there ...

Probably a conflict with hardware / software drivers ...

Rather than troubleshoot, I'll use other free converters.

This DID install and work on another Windows 7 64 Pro computer.

[ Mark ], I suspect that the problem people have is that the software expects screen fonts at 100%, but Windows is now defaulting to 125% for high-resolution screens, so the software never loads a window on screen.

I set screen fonts to 100% rather then 125% or larger,

then logged-out, then logged-in to Windows ( or reboot ),

and that permitted success.

I suspect that is the cause of mine and other people's failures.

The program works as promised, and has a nice [ Small ] button that can shrink a video file, for me in one test, to about 60% of original ( it automatically set lesser frame rate and sampling frequency, but is still appears satisfactorily clear when watching ).

[ Jorj ], check task manager an dyou'll probably see that the program is starting, just never creating an on-screen window -- that was my problem.

I have no idea why it failed on one computer ( WIndows 7 64 Pro ).

But it installed and ran fine on another computer ( also Windows 7 64 Pro ).

I wish the program had a self-diagnosis mode to confirm it's in the right environment and offers remedy's when it fails or exits abnormally.

I dunno, try rebooting in safe mode ( awkward in Windows 10 ) and install and run first there, then reboot into normal virtual mode?

When you use the words professional or genius, you have better be able to back it up.

This deserves neither.

It is the slowest converter that I have used in many years and as the for editor, it is as basic as it gets.

Avoid like the plague!

Due to the comments posted here regarding the file downloaded from GOTD vs. the Trial from the developer's website, I decided to check this out a little further.

The version supposedly being given away here is 1.5.0, however the URL in the readme.txt file goes to a page that states the giveaway version is 1.4.0.0. Their home page for this product also shows that the Trial version is 1.4.0.0.

The setup.exe file from GOTD and the adoreshare-video-converter-genius-trial.exe from the developers website both have the same hash values (sha1 value 7AB38387 D539E4EF DC854D58 8F984AA5 8D94A89A), so downloading the trial from the developer's website would not change whether the program installs properly or works or not.

It may work for some users/OS systems and not others. It cannot be unique to where the setup file came from since both are the same.

I decided I needed to try the file from GOTD to see what results I had. I installed the program on a Windows 7 (64) system. After installation, the program registered successfully using the data provided in the e-mail sent (please take note that the userid and license key in the e-mail may have extra blanks at the end; mine had 2 extra spaces; make sure to not include the spaces when filling in the form; a decent program will ignore those extra spaces, but many do not).

After installation, I tested to see if it performed as advertised. After several successful conversions, I have to say that the program does work as advertised. I did not perform every possible test or feature that the program offers.

Since I installed on a Windows 7 (64) system, I checked the comments again, and see that users with Windows 10 are the ones having a problem.

In doing some research on other websites, the only time users stated that the program would not work (or even run), and they also listed their operating system, it was always on Windows 10 that had the problems. I was not able to find any references to users with Windows 7 (64) that had any problems.

I also found that one user stated that reducing the frame size caused a distortion in aspect ratio. I did not test that functionality myself.

One user (Terry I) stated that due to comments here, and to not waste time, the Trial from the developer's site was installed and worked fine. The trial from the developer did not work for another user (A .Geezer). Terry I used Windows 7 (64). I suspect that A. Geezer is using a Windows 10 OS.

From what I can surmise, the program should work on Windows 7 (64) but most likely does not work on Windows 10.

Is anyone else finding that this program works on Windows 10? Also, has anyone tried setting the Compatibility mode to an older OS, and then having success with this program?

Gary, thank you for documenting your detailed experience. I did want to point out that Terry I did not install the trial from the developer's site: he stated in comment #6: "Downloaded the file from this site then folowed instructions ..." So it seems that downloading the program from here (GotD) -- and following instructions -- "should" work, at least for those using Windows 7.

Thanks again for your very helpful comment.

[ Gary ], failed for me on one Windows 7 64 Pro computer, worked on another Windows 7 64 Pro computer.

I think there are either hardware incompatibilities, or software support items missing or competing, but the program seems NOT to include a self-diagnosis capability to identify and report ( and repair ?!? ) failures to launch or brutal closures, such as killing via task manager, or rebooting while it's loaded.

I got 12 copies running at once, all with no on-screen window.

Naive program, it either works, or if not, they don't care.

When I mentioned checking to see if it will run after checking/changing the program's compatibility settings, I did not mean regarding display settings specifically, although at this point, who knows what is causing the programs to not run properly. It could be any number of factors. The Windows 10 Compatibility Troubleshooter might help arrive at a solution. You can try the Troubleshooter method or the manual settings method. A Google search for "run this program in compatibility mode Windows 10" will get several links to pages showing how this works, even YouTube videos. It would be interesting to see if this gets any of the Windows 10 installs working.

Worked in SAFE MODE, so it's probably a hardware / software drive glitch -- not worth troubleshooting for me considering the alternative free converters out there.

Peter Blaise,

Thanks; I had already noticed your response to Jorj about one Win 7 64 Pro working, and another not. Just when I was thinking it was all related to Windows 10, you have confirmed this program certainly has its issues when it comes to working or not after the install. What is odd, is that the program seems to have these "working or not" issues going back into 2016. You would think they would have become aware that there was an issue, and resolved it by now. Maybe, it has to go back to Tenorshare to get fixed. I agree, they are likely one and the same, only different. I looked through my other Adoreshare install history records (I capture every screen of the install), but none of the others had Tenorshare on them. Thankfully, we have plenty of the alternatives, so this is no great loss. Again thanks.

[ Gary ], I suspect that the problem people have is that the software expects screen fonts at 100%, but Windows is now defaulting to 125% for high-resolution screens, so the software never loads a window on screen.

I set screen fonts to 100% rather then 125% or larger,

then logged-out, then logged-in to Windows ( or reboot ),

and that permitted success.

I suspect that is the cause of your's and other people's failures.

The program works as promised, and has a nice [ Small ] button that can shrink a video file, for me in one test, to about 60% of original ( it automatically set lesser frame rate and sampling frequency, but is still appears satisfactorily clear when watching ).

Software installs, that is about it. Runs under W10 Home 64-bit, but no GUI seen. Sucks up allot of CPU while it sits there. Have to use task manager to stop. DO NOT recommend.

jj juice,
I totally agree, lol.....most like this very basic converter, all do the same thing for the most part, just some are a bit faster than others, but hardly any that really creatively stand out with unique downloading, editing enhancement features.

jj juice, Interesting that you ask if there are 500 video converters out there. This week I downloaded one called 500th Video Converter from http://www.glorylogic.com/video-converter.html and it is now my preferred one. Simple interface and faster than xmedia recode that I had been using. Seems to be still a work-in-progress but does all I require.

Quick update ... I contact Adoreshare support to see if they could maybe help with the problem. They did reply but their support was a joke, all they gave me the the info included was the sent the exact information that is included in the read me file supplied with the down load and the serial which is given when you go to https://www.adoreshare.com/cooperation/giveawayoftheday_videoconvertergeniuswin.html
Looks like today's attempt to resolve the problem is an epic fail. Will definitely be avoiding anything Adoreshare in future.

Managed to download, install and register without any problems (Win 10, 64) and that's as good as it gets. When trying to add anything the software crashes and can only be closed using task manager. Tried doing a reboot but this didn't help. I see that everyone else seems to be having problems with today's offering and despite the number of complaints that there is no response from the developer. How do Adoreshare expect anyone to even consider buying their products if they be bothered to resolve the issues. Based on today's offering and the lack of support from Adoreshare I would be inclined to buy their software. Uninstalled.

Terry I,

Can you confirm for Suze and I which setup you installed. I read your comment as that you installed the Trial from Adoreshare, but Suze implies that since you "followed instructions" therefore, you installed the GOTD setup. Granted, you have to download the file from GOTD to get the readme.txt details, but then downloaded the Trail from the URL you specified, which is the Adoreshare source. I understood you "followed instructions" to get the license code sent to your e-mail address, but installed the Trial from Adoreshare.

Thanking you in advance;
