I had a similar experience to Vina/Wolf below. After installing this as a GOTD offer on 8/26/17, I had used 8K player once or twice with no issue. Today I rented a Blue-Ray disc and tried to watch it with this player. Instead, a box came up saying "This license has been banned."

I came here to see if anyone else had commented. Based on what Vina/Wolf wrote, I won't even bother to contact Dimo. I'll just watch my movie with the already installed (and free) Leawo Blue-ray Player.

I am just wondering if this has happened to any one else or just me. I used this player to watch like 5 movies since I installed it on GOTD and last night went to watch a movie and it says" You have been banned" then it opens a page to their site but never yells you why you were banned in the first place.
I messaged the site asking why this happened and their response was this "Hi, Peter

Thanks for interesting in Dimo Software and kindly contact us.

But due to the policy of free giveaways version which is only avaliable before September 26th, 2017,

we can't arrange technical support team to maintain it, very sorry for this inconvenience.

If you keep interesting in Dimo software, you can purchase the lifetime version of 8K Player or other apps.

And, if you need it, I can send you a 50% OFF purchase link tell me what OS are you running. Windows OS or MacOS.

Any question please feel free to contact us again.

Have a nice day!

Regards,

Vina"
That's it and there is no way I'm buying anything from this company or bother downloading any further give away's from this company. So beware when dealing with them they are sneaky!!!

Hallo guys. Nobody promised you a regular Blu-Ray Player. Everything works just fine, if you load your CD-Rom with a Bly-Ray disc. It's a brand new concept

In my view, dreadful app. Cannot move controls off video frame so useless for ext screen. No settings at all I can find.
When 'Uninstalled' leaves stuff everywhere in the registry including a large list of CAT.xxx indexes in HKEY_CLASSES.
When c.f. old Jet_Audio / Jet-VIdeo, is a looong way behind.
Don't understand why so many short sighted comments on registration key - it is in a TEXT FILE so how can it be so hard to Copy/Paste. Always a good idea to read instructions before comment. Having to download a 2nd copy of the Setup.exe does seems rather silly.

Will not play an entire folder of music or audio files. Must add each file after the last one has played. At least, that's what I found when I tried to use this player. Plus the music or audio file just stopped spontaneously before finishing. Uninstalled.

Well, I had a play with it, using copy and paste for the license key activated it fine.

There apears to be some odd high level of cpu usage when idling with no files open CPU usage floating around 50 to 60%... rising to 70 to 80% playing a 720p mp4 video file. I doubt it'll be of any use with significantly higher resolutions on my hardware.

The screen record feature does not produce any output.

All the output folders are located in the Users folder in a subfolder called dmplayer that we cannot locate elsewhere...

The to GIF conversion output works but is primitive, no control over pallete choice or dithering style if any and only a maximum animation length of 30 seconds. I have dedicated video to gif programs that work so much better.

The frame capture/snaphot works too, but I can do the same with quicktime player without the excessive CPU usage or any cost.

Thankfully one of my security programs trapped the attempt to hijack the systems file associations during installation so I won't have to do a system restore to put everything back to how it was, which is a relief!

A swing and a miss.

Not an intuitive program.
Escape does NOT exit program like Zoom Player (the gold standard in players).

It can NOT increment to the next video file in the current directory (like Zoom).

It's viewing window is not constrained to one size set by user (like Zoom)

It will expand to full screen on it's own and there is no intuitive solution.

Arrow keys left and right will not always advance or reverse (program is moody)

Interface is kinda clunky.

I was optimistic but, sadly, uninstalled.

I do not appretiate a video player hijacking all or most video type file extensions so it defaults to the systems media player without asking me or warning me! Especially when it's alledgedly a fairly unstable product going by the majority of comments!

https://www.mediadimo.com/anniversary-giveaway has a free Mac version too, but it is v3.1.1 and not v3.5.1. Also, I couldn't copy and paste its free license code with the mouse and keyboard. It looks umm very simple and crappy. :(

Got the licence from the second download. Installed with no problem , Licence worked. I was seduced by 7.1 and reso formats. I was hoping it will be also up-scaling video to the higher reso. Started up ok , plaid a few 1080p and 720p files. Plays alright, but there is now preferences or menu for setting to upscale video. Also it didn't pass thru the DD sound or any other D 5.1 or DTS sounds. One laterally won't able to change any settings within the player. Most important My receiver only gets stereo sound off this player. The worst thing it screws up playing HD files with DD and Dolby sound in my other player. My player simply stopped working. I have uninstalled the 8k player , No luck. All is screwed up. Restarting the PC fixed the sound and video problems in my other player. In my case i wish this GOTD =8K player will come with a note: You won't be able to change any settings or preferences , it will play DD, Dolby , DTS in stereo only and it will screw up HD dolby sound and HD video in yr current working system . Bugga.

Heavy Water, that is the exact same installer AND license key that we get from this aniversary download, except that their downloader attempts to install an auto-start task bar systray notifier icon without asking before it tries to download the selected offers installer... not nice! Certainly a Potentially Unwanted Action! And that offer is only for the windows version and does not also offer the MAC version of the player too that we can get from the link supplied here.

Downloaded and installed as instructed installed easy the license code can be tricky at first said I had wrong code but if you go back and look for f some look like they are capitols but they are not if you put in a capitol F try replacing that with a small f that fixed my code prob.
After installation I tried a couple movies I have on file and it worked great very clear picture and sound. There is the option to record a Gif from your favorite movie or whatever and loop it so you can have some fun sending it to your friends or use it in a post.
That's about all I can say as I haven't tried anything else. To me it's a keeper !! Thanks to GOTD and to the Dimo people for todays offering !!

Not a bit of a problem. The code shown in comment 24 is exactly what I got from the DIMO site; proggie installed at once, registered no problem, now I need to run it thru some paces to see just what's under the brassiere.

Now, wot's all the rumpus about d/l 30 mb twice? Wot, are you on a 9600 baud modem? DSL? D/L the thing, get your code (it MIGHT could change, yanno?) and dump the dupe! Heck, I dumped the original installer as soon as it went in, why keep junk around?

No problem getting to website for me.

Terry's comment 17 baffles me. Just because the sock puppets are out and singing in the electroverse doesn't mean its a bad program... if it doesn't work, what have you lost? Ten minutes (unless you're on the aforementioned 9600 baud), and - I sincerely hope - only a rewipe of the virtual disk you use as a sandbox. You wanna give up that easily, you may as well go back to print novels and the telly.

Reply   |   Comment by FrayedKnotArts  –  2 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-13)

FrayedKnotArts, in this programs case if you install it and allow it to do everything it wants on most versions of windows it will wreck your existing media file associations and not restore them when you uninstall it. You will need to install this in a protected virtual machine or use system restore to get your prefered file associations back, the program is badly designed and badly implimented. So if it doesn't work, which it does not work well enough to be better than VLC or Zoom players, unless you have a backup of the system prior to installation you lose your media file associations which can be a big deal for many!

FAIL. Download and installation were OK, but it couldn't play a 4K HDR file or a 4K non-HDR file (Both HEVC 10 bit coded). I tried the same file in VLC and Pot Player before without any success. Both video and audio stuttered. The same happened when I used this player. My opinion is that you need a proper hardware to play HEVC 10 bit coded 4K/8K with/without HDR no matter which player you are choosing. It's known that only 7th gen CPU officially supports 10 bit coded videos so far (mine is 6th gen).
My laptop configuration:
Dell Latitude E5470 | Intel Core i5-6200U, 2.30 GHz | 4GB RAM | Intel GPU | 500GB HDD | 14" | Win7Pro64

Reply   |   Comment by john becker  –  2 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

john becker, I mostly read that it's CPU that actually differentiates, not the GPU. I have seen a comment in an Android forum that claims Exynos CPU, despite no official support, plays 4K HEVC 10 bit smoothly, whereas the latest Snapdragon fails. This again shows it's just CPU that matters in a movie playback. A video card is normally more important in games, graphics related jobs and so on.

Running Win 10 on a Dell XPS. Installed OK, registering required 2 attempts using copy & paste. That's all the good I have to say!

First, I couldn't figure out how to open a file, so I clicked and dragged a file. That worked, but when I went to Full Screen I lost ALL control except volume. I lost the control panel, couldn't FF, Pause, Stop and worst of all, I couldn't get out of Full Screen. I couldn't get out of this!

Luckily [Alt] [TAB] took me back to the desktop and with a right click on the icon I was able to close the program, but the sound track continued to play! What's up with that!

To shut down the sound track I had to open Task Mgr and found 8K Player running in the background. I had to use Task Mgr to end the task to stop the audio!

On top of that, I was using Vivaldi as my browser and it crashed Vivaldi which won't restart. I had to resort back to Firefox.

Luckily, I created a restore point! I'm not going to uninstall or do a restore until I get feedback, but at this point, I'm prepared to do either.

Is this happening to anybody else or is it just me?

Todays giveaway is a little odd! We get two installers with identical hash codes and size, one in the giveaway bundle with a readme.txt pointing to

https://www.mediadimo.com/anniversary-giveaway

to go fill in a form to get our license, but when we do just that we are instructed to click on a link that downloads another 30MByte zip file hosted by them which also includes another installer and a nother text file that does finally contain the license code! Oh and in addition there is a MAC tab on the page that offers a zip file for use on a MAC!

I won't put the final URL's for the two zip files in my comment as that would give the vendows valid reason to block my comment.

I've got a miniPC connected to our TV, so I'll give this one a try tonight with a Blu-ray disc -- see if it does any better than the Leawo player that's always free.

videohelp[.]com/software/Leawo-Blu-ray-Player

As far as normal pricing goes, Dimo Studio may find they want/need to knock that down a little bit, since PowerDVD Ultra 17 is often on sale for $45, & will eventually drop into the $30 range [again on sale]. PowerDVD Ultra 17 does more in the way of video & audio enhancement, & will handle all the Java menus & features on a retail Blu-ray disc. That said, it also recognizes & enforces Cinavia DRM, which is embedded in the audio track.

A Blu-ray player like Leawo's, & I assume today's GOTD, bypass the DRM, including Cinavia, but ignore anything Java. Getting around the ever evolving & complicated DRM on a retail Blu-ray disc isn't easy, or foolproof, which is probably why Dimo Studio says "Play almost any Blu-ray/DVD disc...".

As far as enhancing the picture goes, madVR & LAVFilters are both popular [& free] -- you can get them at videohelp[.]com, and both come portable with install & uninstall .bat files so you can play video with one or both on/off. The MPC-HC player is also popular since it can use many enhancements, but IMHO works best/easiest if you use something like tsMuxeR [also free at videohelp] to put the video in a single file -- the video on a Blu-ray may be split among several files.

Upscaling...
If you've got a 4k TV, & want to spend, & have the money, there are 4k Blu-ray players, discs, & at least one PC drive -- all 3 are priced at a premium, and there's a limited selection. I think most people go the Netflix route for 4k, but again the selection is limited. That Does Not mean that standard HD looks the same as on a regular HDTV -- a 4k TV has more pixels, & most know how to use them, so sending a 1080p picture [e.g. from a Blu-ray disc] to a 4k TV works fine as-is. If you've got a graphics card or new PC that supports HDMI 2.0 or better, and can send out 4k video at the normal 60 Hz many [most?] 4k TVs expect, you can try upscaling HD video beforehand or during playback, but it's only worth the hassle if that does a better job than the 4k TV's electronics. That Is Not a given -- a good 4k TV will do better on its own, because the engineers compensate for the characteristics of the panel. You can *try* sending 4k video at 30 Hz, which I think is what most PCs & Android boxes can mange, but your mileage may vary -- many 4k TVs will turn off many or all of their picture enhancing features with a 30 Hz signal, not to mention potential issues with Windows upscaling software GUI text so you can read it.

Downloaded and installed per instructions and it was smooth and quick.
Pulled out some videos in different formats that I wanted to see and they showed immediately and clearly with good sound. Looks like a winner for me to keep and upgrade. Thanks, GOTD and Dimo.

Try to buy on line. Says Shop Closed. I assume this is the Blu-ray Power version. If not I am wasting our time and my bandwidth. The Standard Version is free but does not support Blu-ray.

Joshua, where did you see the link which says the shop is closed? Get it from the official store not others. Any other issues please feel free to contact with support@mediadimo.com

Installed and registered without problems. However, it does not allow changes to any of program parameters. This is a problem because it doesn't scale to a 4K monitor and there seems to be no way to change the screen capture directory. If you use the tab in the lower right-hand corner to enlarge the screen, the video plays at above normal speed. Needs more work.

Reply   |   Comment by Domo  –  2 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+24)

In addition to the above issues, while it does capture screen shots of files, it does not capture screen shots of either DVDs or Blu-ray discs.

ComputerMan, it doesn't send anything to your email. It should download a zip file to your computer. I clicked the button nine times before I realized that, and I had nine copies of the same file. The website doesn't bother to tell you that it accepted the click - it won't even close the dialog box. Just sits there...

Richard Harvie, I had to download the free anniversary program. I clicked on the downloaded file and got the registration code. I could not cut/paste the code so had to type it in the registration box. What a pain!

Leo2000, faced same thing--plus, it didn't seem like manual entry worked for me, either. ClipaVu (recent GOTD) did work--though by chance, since I'm not certain how it works, yet, however. Got it to work, though.

Funny, the number of developers out there offering software players without ever mentioning the need for the right hardware in the first place. This developer is no different: the uninitiated reading this blurb might think it's about some kind of self-contained BlyRay or BluRay player that will work on any computer. The "guidance" even goes so far as to give the impression that "launching" a BL disk is all that's necessary for this program to work.

Significantly missing from that "guidance" is the caveat that a BlyRay or BluRay disk can only be "launched" (i.e., played) on a computer equipped with a BlyRay or BluRay optical drive. An ordinary DVD/CD optical drive can't even begin to play such a disk.

Hopefully this thread won't be filled with questions from people who don't have any kind of Ray drive on their computers and are wondering if this software will make up for that . . . because no. It won't.

"almost any Blu-ray/ DVD"? What does 'almost' mean?

Not being cute or nit-picky, so if anybody has an answer, please share.

Breagha, it means there are some--or there may be some--blu-rays that will not/do not/cannot work. Actually, that goes without saying with all forms of technology. Some are more efficient that others, but none are absolutely foolproof, whether stated or not.

Reply   |   Comment by randombystander  –  2 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+7)

randombystander, so it's not a region caveat? It's somthing like if the disc is using some obscure DRM-protection it might not work?

Reply   |   Comment by Breagha  –  2 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

Breagha, some machines, no matter what program you use, will not play a disk from a different region.

I have been trying to get the registration code and followed the link but the site has a pop up window and insists on a 2nd download of the same software I got from the give away of the day site already...so my email is not being accepted as I refuse to download it again. Please get this problem rectified and allow only the email to be registered to get the key...

danny zing, Cut to the...cash: apparently, you must download the Giveaway from their...page--in addition to, OR, ALTERNATIVE to your downloading from...here--since the Registration Code comes from that download from their page...only? (I think...no email Code is going to become sent?) And...? If this's so--WHY even have any download from this...page, whatsoever: since you must download (a second time) from...theirs, additionally?

Reply   |   Comment by David Ulrich  –  2 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-1)

danny zing, in case you have not just done as told and closed the windows without downloading that second zip file.... it is just a second copy of the same windows installer, or a mac installer if you select the mac tab and a text file with the actual license code in it.

really the giveaway bundle should not have contained the SETUP.EXE but just the readme.txt file then we would not be wasting space and time on two 30MB downloads instead of just the one... plus a tiny sub 1Kbyte zip from GAOTD site.
