I think 1 year licenses are reasonable in cases where frequent updates may be necessary to keep up with external software changes.
Antivirus programs are an example of this, and a video downloader where sites like YouTube etc change their APIs on a regular basis may be another. Of course it also matters how much the companies are charging for all this.

I used Airy for quite some time but after Youtube changed a lots, it doesn't work on all videos anymore because the version i have is outdated.
I don't know what to say about a video downloader, the download works, the converter converts, the included search function is helpful. A plus are multiple downloads at the same time.
The core functionality is Freeware, so you can update the program whenever a new version comes out, the license shouldn't be affected, i had a earlier version already registered and it displayed more than 200 days left after i used it for the first time today, before renewing to 365 days.

Fast PC Tools, oh ok, i only tried with one video in my test, which was slightly below 720p after download, 640x480, so it only applies to Full HD 1080p, not HD 720p. I stand corrected then.

Robert's reply in post #14 is correct: one needs a bunch of these to handle various sites. And there are a lot of video download programs out there -- many more than are mentioned in your post. I've had some success with this one on offer today, which is definitely above average. At the moment, my 'Go To' choices are VideoGet (a paid app.) and TVDownloader (a.k.a. YoutubeVideoDownloader, which is free but sporadically updated -- https://www.videohelp.com/software/YoutubeVideoDownloader). The latter retrieved some things for me that I didn't think I was going to be able to snag. Some of the capture programs have to be able to sniff out the actual, concealed URLs, and a couple of them get to be fairly techie in doing that. The ones I've mentioned are reasonably accessible for users.

Software installed with no issue, registration was simple and quick. I've been looking for an easy way to download FB videos and it looks like this is it. Both searching and downloading happened fast. Beyond that I like that this software also does conversions.
I get why people don't like 1 year licenses, but I agree with thinking of it as an extended trial. That's plenty of time to decide if something is worth paying money. I appreciate free, but I also understand that developers need to make a living. That said, it would be nice if the special offer at the bottom of the window was a little less obtrusive.

i have used this software before on another PC , the interface is a bit confusing and download speed from you tube was low , but it can download multiple videos simultaneously and also playlists from you tube. i think if you have a habit of regularly downloading videos from you tube or any other website supported by this software then , you should give it a try

I don't know what people are moaning about -- isn't this just NORMAL on GOTD?
Or is it that after 366 days, it completely STOPS WORKING?
Even that may not be too bad -- since, as someone pointed out here recently, it is more of a "long trial" period, and you can't REALLY complain if it suddenly stops after a year.... Personally, I would prefer that it carries on after that, with of course no updating, which some programmes do offer here. (ie. carrying on.)
But I think one year working, if it is working WELL is "reasonable"...

Also, they forgot to mention the converter will also not work in Free mode and i forgot the registered version supports more video sites.
