#19, Biggest Baddest Wolf - you're spot on ! Vista is a POS and is just microsoggy's next step to trying to control the software world...

As for this little application, it looks good and would be useful to some users.

Hi!
RPO looks to be a useful program, it installed and registered fine.
I can monitor the machine that the client is on just fine.

However, when I installed (and ran) the server on a second machine on my "MSHOME" network (both running XP pro), I got an error message form the client (on the first machine) saying "Access denied to server" - even though the second computer showed in the tree, and I refreshed.

Any ideas?

Also, I had to manually start the server on the second machine - maybe it will start automatically when I reboot? There doesn't seem to be be a way to stop the server in the system tray, left/right mouse click doesn't do anything for me?

Thanks, Steve

Lee comment #35. You can use the file downloadable from the developer Apexoft:

http://www.apexoft.com/rpo

And then install it when you get your computers. You must go through the usual activation process to obtan the activation key and name, which should be copied onto a word document or other type of document. The program can then be installed onto any computer and activated any time. :)

Thanks for the response Grant, finally managed to activate, but now asks for registration details, which I can't find. now 1:30 in the morning in the UK. I'm off to bed so it looks like I've missed out on this one. Oh well, back to the screen savers at least they work.

Splendid offering. Just called three more friends (also running networks in their own office)to download quick. Just got half a dozen more new pcs and notebooks this week; and more coming this year. Tired of running around to check performance so this looks good. Keep these office apps coming....thanks GOTD.

Comments - Keep those coming too - I visit GOTD daily for the software AND the entertaining comments for my coffee break. Nice to know that we can all disagree on something and yet ask for more....

I am not sure if I may need this software or not .
I have 2 stationary and a laptop networking , plus two wireless media centers connected to two plasma screens to have video, music, picture files (etc) streamed from the PCs HDs, and to surf the net.
They all seem to network and cooperate seamlessly even though the laptop and one of the stationary use vista , the other use Win Xp and the wiFi media centers use indifferently the one from the hd you choose to connect them to.
Now my question is: do you think I may need today' s GOTD? If yes, Why?
Anyone who will bother to answer me will be rememberd in my prayers and maybe in my testament too.
Faithfully.
Dr. Fridge.

Good morning everyone! ;)

Thanks but no thanks for today. We have this need covered with our 4 home computers and have no desire to change. I'm not exactly sure what my husband uses here, but I know he's very happy with the way it works.

I'll check back tomorrow and see what is on offer.

It's good to have you with us Apexoft, I hope you find value in joining us here!

As always, thank you GOTD, but I'd still love to see some office software on offer as a welcome change to system software.

Have a wonderful sunny day everyone! ;)

Can't activate this software I get an error saying "Activation module failed to connect to giveawayoftheday.com. Software activation is not possible at the moment. Please try again later of check your firewall settings.". I've done both these and I still can't activate. (I've activated loads of stuff before, including the many screen savers(I like them)).

Completely useless. Didn't install as registered even after using the provided username and reg number. Didn't find my network. Uninstalled after about 5 minutes. There are far better network tools out there, and some, like Newt, are free.

I run one machine, so no use for me.

I hope by xmas 2008, when I build 2 machines and add a laptop, GAOTD will have a new released version free for me to try.

Well done GAOTD for an above average release.

Useless. I run a little network at home... 4 machines. I have no use for this. And if the license is for non-commercial then this is truly a waste of time.

But if your computer is boring you then you'll install just about anything to entertain yourself for an hour or two.

#26: this software is extremely useful. It may be useless for you, but for many others, even for some home users that have multiple pc's in their residence, this could be some greatly appreciated software. Waste your time somewhere else, rather than polluting gaotd's wall with useless garbage.

FFS the vista antihype has hit goatd. Some programs will not run in vista thats a given just like some from 98 would not run in 2k or xp. Faact is its up to the developers of said programs to make them work with vista not microsofts job to make other people programs run on their os.

As for this program useless for me right now my laptop is all i got up and running right now.

Back 2 3 4 months ago very handy type of program.

#17 99% works with Vista? Now that's a stupid thing to say. Well unless you're only using the programs that come with it. It's not a question of the system being able to handle the program, but one of Bill Gates allowing it. Read up on the "MANY" problems Vista is creating with non-approved (Or better yet, They're not paying Bill) programs. Thanks for the offer GAOTD but I'll check in tomorrow.

#15: Sweet.... I could play around with such functionality as well... guess I'm about to download this.

#14: You are mistaken, there is only one thing that doesn't work in Vista - sadly, that is Vista itself lol....
And for your single computer, well, what #15 said might mae it more interesting.

#13: Accessing the internet from one of those glorified Nintendo's?
(hey, if it's a gamingconsole, I call it a Nintendo, even if they do have some form of internet access)

#11: If only there was a Vista that worked on Vista... heh...

#9: Yup, it would. And it has more uses too.

#7: There's more home-users with multiple machines than you'd think...

#4: The Windows family is known to be inaccurate and a bottleneck in itself.
Would you rather have the pickpocket investigate where your wallet went, or the police?

#2: Yawn....
(A): As already mentioned, there's more home-users with several machines networked than you'd think.
Just because you bought only one pre-fab box from PB doesn't mean everyone does.
(B): This software also has functionality on single machines.
(C): What I expect for free is a bunch of pointless comments plugging up the page that the free software is offered on.
Glad to see you're keeping in line with that tradition.
Have you ever truly navigated the net?
Have you ever noticed how much excellent free stuff there is to be found out there?
Do you pay for the air that you breathe?
If that air is free, do you whine about it?
Meh...

"Nothing works in Vista"!!??
What a stupid thing to say, I have vista and 99% of programs DO work in vista, and if they don't it is the fault of the program's manufacturer for not updating the software to be compatible.

Great giveaway, unfortunately the program is lacking a couple of key features required for use. I would probably purchase this for commercial use if it had:

1. Manual addition of machines, even better loaded from a list. I can only see that you can scan for machines rather than being able to add them.

2. More security on the data servers. Like my first point, I'd rather be able to configure the data server to only be seen by one client, password protected, or something similar. Currently, you can scan the network and see any other machines that have this data server installed.

3. External logging. I can only see that this is a real-time monitor, but it would be even better if this could output to a standard format or dump the data into a database for later monitoring.

It's on the right track, but not yet there for commercial use. Looking forward to this program becoming more serious!

Hi there. Greatings from spain.

I've installed the app.

No problem with installation and registration.

Some tips:
with server:
- Allow at server installation time to choose if a try icon of server running will be shown

- Allow to choose to launch the server when installation finishes or not.

With observer:
- Please, let us choose to put an icon somewhere. I've to search for the app after installing it.
- having some problem recognising other pc after installing the server.

Nice app, looks good. I'll be using it. Thanks GAOTD.
