#142, I've only seen GOTD offer screensavers on the weekend, and I like about half of them (I don't use them as screensavers, only as 3D animations). It's the whiners that are the problem (if you don't like GOTD's choices in free software, start your own free software website).

As for the people complaining about the framerate of this screensaver, that's due to your video card (and perhaps your CPU, if it's slow). Decreasing the resolution will improve the framerate.

While appreciated, the screen savers are getting lame. I am in NO way complaining. I think that GOTD has got to realize that enough for now is enough. I mean, what I would like to see is ONE screen saver from each company, and that company can get feedback based on the one that they choose. But now the companies are not getting clear feedback. There are so many negative comments just because there are so many ss. So, thanks for the hard work GOTD, but I think the ss should be put on hold for now. ;)

The only thing that's 95% here (as mentioned) is that 95% of the so called "comments" AREN'T COMMENTS about the Giveaway! Geez people if you want to troll and talk about your personal life then go to a chat room. This COMMENT SECTION isn't for anything other then commenting on the SOFTWARE that you have TRIED! If you can't comment on the "SOFTWARE ONLY" then don't post.

With that said, this screen saver downloaded and activated fine but when hitting the "preview" button to test the adjusted settings it would crash and post an error message about unable to run its screen saver manager, then asked to send an error report via online connection. When waiting a set time period for the screen saver to run it would appear to 'want to' but instead made the screen flash several times then fail again, asking once more to accept sending an error report and saying the screen saver manager was encountered an error.

With all that being done, a re-download resulted in the same things. I had to sadly just uninstall it. I didn't particularly like all the extra shortcuts it placed on my desktop for other products and the creators website, that should of been my choice during install I feel.

Let's not complain so much folks, Free is Free and lets keep the "Comment" section on GOTD for exactly that, Comments about the Giveaway NOT what you like in life, what you like to do or what "other similar" products you enjoy using. This isn't your MySpace page.

Don't remember the exact givaway but, in defense of the complainers I posted something to the effect of "GOTD allows us to say what we want here" and even complimented them on doing so, guess I was wrong.

I posted the fairly mild silly little comment on this thread "Don't look at it as a Screensaver, but look at it as the best commercial software titles - for free." I can't believe they pulled that post, guess I hit a nerve.

I suppose we need to say nice things about the products or nothing at all. Got some news for ya GOTD, that's a real good way to create Trolls, I've seen it happen more than once.

I am a screensaver lover, but I am sorry to say that this particular one did not meet up to the standards of many of the previous savers, like the Ancient Castle, as mentioned by #138. The Japanese Garden saver's graphics were rather poorly drawn, the animation very jittery, and the music somewhat inaudible. I really love this website, and these wonderful software gifts that you offer all of us daily. So I almost feel guilty for complaining about the quality of something that is being given to me for free.

Fubar, I hear what you are saying. I also have had posts deleted from here that weren't in anyway offensive. Certainly not anything like a lot of posts that I have read here. I don't understand what the reason is for deleteing some posts but whoever is doing it should watch more carefully on what thye are deleting. I believe they mmust be hitting the wrong ones when they delete once in awhile. But I can't be positive on that.

Whoever deletes posts, how about deleting those garbage posts like the ones that all they are is just complaints that have nothing to do with the software except that it's another screensaver. And the ones that complain about the complainers. Over 100 comments and most have nothing to do with how the software preforms.

This screensaver, I didn't like it very much because for one, it took so long to load and I have a fast machine. And the loading screen is terrible. The graphics aren't that great but they aren't all that bad either. Personally I would of kept it if it weren't for the time it takes to just get to the graphics part of it.

Thanks Gotd for the service you provide. And thanks to the suppliers of the progrms that you are able to give us daily. Even though I can't use every single program offered, you all are still a great bunch of people for providing us with the assortment of programs that do get offered. Thank you very much!

I really didnt like this screensaver. Not bad, but not that good either. I uninstalled it after a couple of hours. Just didnt give me the same nice feeling that the Ancient Castle screensaver of last week did. I liked that one very much. Even the music. I have been using computer since back into the 80s. Have always liked screensavers. Even though these days they are pretty much useless. I do enjoy them. Would like to see that clock tower one one of these days. This website is great, so keep up the good work!

White Rabbit .. please do not allow a few shallow, self-absorbed, mean-spirited yahoos to affect your day. As a grandparent, I appreciate your in-depth reviews of the software, particularly since you include perspectives from an adult's point of view as well as your children's experiences. Your reviews are the only ones I've encountered that are consistently worth reading (no offense, Bladed Thoth ..but yours are off-site!).

GAotD, salute to y'all and thanks for another giveaway. Can't wait to see what's in store this week!

Astro Gemini, welcome aboard! We look forward to more of your software in the future. Thank you for this offering!

It's free after all - just go look somewhere else instead of always complaining if you don't like something - come back tomorrow!

install was easy! after it installed i had to change some of the default settings because it would not work right.it had 3 horizontal white grids on it one on each side of the screen and one in the middle of the screen.plus it looked a bit bad graphics wise but all i had to do was change the first box in the settings window to my current desktop settings and uncheck the use desktop settings box for some reason it was not using the correct settings of my default desktop. it looks much better now and the white blanked out spots have disappeared. so overall not that bad of a screensaver. i have had much worse ones then this so i'll give it a 6 out of 10 because i did not care for the screensaver manager part of it and if i had to pay money for it that would be my biggest complaint i don't care for the screensaver managers much.but some may like it! it's free so i won't complain about it. so thanks for the free screensaver! and the people who come here for free software >> Quit bitching about free software and save it for the ones you buy instead.

In answer to the cold hearted comments of Lori, coelho branco etc: Whiterabbit is one of the most helpful posters on here and genuinely provides useful links and advice, even if he has mentioned his problems before rather than attack him you could try showing sympathy and empathizing.

It would be far better to have more people like Whiterabbit who contribute useful comments.

Free screen savers have better quality than this!

THE ART IS WORSE THAN MAPLESTORY'S!

Don't get me wrong: I love screensavers. And thank you GOTD, for making this available for us.

However, for people who are downloading this, unless you like crappy quality and consecutive screenshots (it's actually not 3D), and crappy music and slow reaction to get off of screensaving mode, this product isn't recommendable.

I LOVE screensavers, and this one IS pretty, but it is verrrry choppy, even on my pumped PC. If the graphics movement wasn't so choppy, it would be a winner. I hate to say it, but I think I'll be uninstalling this one. Sorry GWOTD- but thanks nonetheless!

Not bad. I certainly wouldn't pay $20 for it though. Does not run smooth on this PC with 1.6Ghz AMD cpu (not clocked yet), 512MB ram (next add-on to 1GB+ (soon I hope)), and nVidea video card w/256MB vram. Needs a frame rate option included in settings IMO. Otherwise not too bad. Graphics are good with exception of the tree foliage, which looks like it was cut from construction paper and pasted on the limbs. Very cheezy looking, like some 'old' games I have. Swaying of the trees is too much in some instances. Some trees look like they're in a tornado, while others in the same scene look like they're just swaying in the breeze naturally. Those are some pretty fat ducks btw. Graphically, ducks in water look good, just too fat for natural looking ducks LOL! Overall this is a decent scnsvr, but needs polish before even considering a chg of $20. Has a clock in the lower right corner which is a nice touch. It can be turned off in settings. On a scale of 1-10, I'd give it a 4.5 .

hmmmm let's see 302 votes and only 120 comments, perhaps GOTD needs to only allow the vote link to be active AFTER you post a comment, at least that way you get valid comments from people that "may" actually have downloaded and tried it before being negative. At least have the courtesy to GOTD and the companies that give away this stuff, to try it out first, myself I found it interesting but I like the free aquarium one I got and that I use all the time.

Swan(#109): There was no sarcasm involved, Sunshine. 95%-5% isn't intended to be scientific, it's strictly a ballpark figure. But just look back on today's comments (or pick any day at random from the archive) and add up the score. You'll see I'm not too far off. And don't you worry about about the tender feelings of the 95%. They're too stupid to care that they're stupid. Incidentally, you fall into the "shameless suck-up" segment.
My first comment(#58)makes perfect sense, if you had been paying attention. Now hush up, Sunshine.

WHITE RABBIT, I am horrified at the nasty things people have said today. Please, please, don't stop writing exactly as you do now, please don't give these people a second thought, they obviously have very little in their lives. I, for one, would love to hear more about your accident and your life now, and if you would let me know your email address, I will write to you from New Zealand on occasion, if you are interested. I, like many others, always go to your posting first before I download either the utility or the game, I value your opinion. Please don't feel hurt by other people's opinions, you ARE valued by many. Since GOTD stopped updating these comments long ago, if they post this it won't be until late tonight, so very few people will see this. I posted a detailed review on this screensaver, answering some people's questions about the product, and how to improve the visual quality. GOTD chose to delete my post (there was nothing in any way offensive in it, it was a technical and aesthetic review). I'm not going to waste my time writing comments which are going to be deleted arbitrarily; I'll look into posting my GOTD comments elsewhere, perhaps on BladedThoth's forum.

Hello again,

I apologize for another post today, but I forgot to mention #63 coelho branco, who has no empathy and/or compassion for anyone in his life.

"I hate to appear “insensitive”, but I think we’ve all heard the story of your “accident” more times than we care to mention. Next time, keep your bicycle out of the road. The only thing more irritating than your endless posts about yourself is your constant self-pitying mewling. Get over yourself and it a rest, already. And quit blaming the morphine for your own shortcomings."

You sound nasty, bitter, and just plain unlikeable. Around 15 years ago, I was where White Rabbit is now and I remember what it was like. It's not self-pity - it's anger at the injustice of it all, and it's sorrow at a life once lived more fully.

Recently, I had occasion to give my computer monitor away. I used the SVHS connector in my video card and a SVHS cable to connect my computer to my television. I have a large screen TV and use the screensaver to make my TV look and sound like a fireplace. The 3D Fish/Aquarium screensaver is also relaxing to watch.

But screensaver developers, what do you think about maybe combining a screensaver with a flash card program that might teach people vocabulary or letters or numbers, etc.

Or on the voyeuristic side (sorry about the spelling). How about a screensaver of the shadow of a cute guy undressing behind a window shade. Or a window with some scary characters with their faces pressed up against the screen.

On the funny side, various characters could show up to your door as possible dates, baby sitters, presidential candidates, or spoofs of favorite cartoon characters. How about one where you can cut and paste photos you select into character templates that say or play audio you provide. My favorite screensaver was Johnny Castaway.

White Rabbit: I met a man who had back pain that would never go away. He said he had two or three pain medications that he used to manage the pain. He found out that when he relied on one for too long it became less and less effective over time. So he used the most effective for a certain period of time (say two months) then switched to a second pain medication (say for a similar period of time) and then resignedly switched to a third less effective medication. By switching medications he was able to avoid dependence (physical and psychological) on a single medication and extend the amount of time overall that he was able to use it.
Healthy people really do not understand unremitting, constant pain or chronic debilitating conditions. I have a friend who used to make fun of me when I sometimes admited my despair at my physical condition. Now he's been hit with a disability and is consumed with its affect on his life. I told him "welcome to my world". He looked at me surprised and said, "So this is how you've felt all these years!"

I hope people can try to be more understanding of people with disabilities. Look at the guy in a wheel chair and say "Hi" or "good morning", or offer to let a little old lady in front of them in a check out line so they don't have to stand a painfully long time. Many times the only thing separating able people from becoming disabled people is a 2 second accident. Finally, I suggest you beware of depression. It can sneak up on you. It's not always just a cloud that can be dispelled. It can be a ten ton weight you have to dig your way out from under. Thanks for your comments.

I've installed the Japanese Garden screensaver. I thought it would have things like a pebble garden in it being raked into different configurations or one of those bamboo pieces with water running through it that makes a tapping sound. I'd love to see some Japanese water color type screensavers. This one is very nice. I'd like to see a Kodo drummer screensaver also. Might be worth the $20 if it came in a pack of 3 or 4.

I especially enjoy the animated wallpapers suggested by White Rabbit.

Good morning everyone! ;)

I love extremely well done animated screen savers. However, this product doesn't cut it at all. I agree with almost everyone who has tried the software and didn't much like it, so I won't bother to repeat the reasons.

My 2 favorite and truly amazing screen savers are going to be on my machine for many years to come: those that bought the Microsoft Plus! package will know what I mean. While all the screen savers in the package are incredible, the robot circus is my favorite, - absolutely outstanding graphics, involving complex physics, and seamless animation.

Most other screen savers leave me cold in comparison - and this one today is no exception.

I'm happy that the screen savers mostly only come once a week and that it's on the weekends when I don't have time to really test out any other kind of program software. If there is ever anything I want on the weekend, I download it and test it on Monday.

I've rarely seen anything I like on GOTD on the weekends, so for me, it's already a comfortable paradigm shift.

Having said that, I download and test many programs here, even if I don't want to go on using them for 3 main reasons:

1: It's so interesting (and often surprising!) to find new software that fits a particular need that I didn't even know I had!

2: I enjoy finding and identifying certain bugs - but of course there are others I could do without also;

3: I learn a lot from those that really know what they're talking about;

So for these reasons, I thank you GOTD. I thank you for all that I mentioned and your amazing efforts in the software world.

Thank you also to Astro Gemini, for putting their trust in GOTD and for providing software to us for free. I for one am grateful.

Verrrrry Nice. Colors are vibrant, birds and ducks and boats and a breeze all adds action. Does not slow down my pc, does not use more electricity since I am always on. It does not stress the video card nor make it work hard nor wear it out nor make it run hot. Does not overwhelm the available resources of the pc. It does not phone home. I do not need anymore file-splitters or audio whatever and etc.... just keep the screen savers coming! I like this screen saver a lot.

Is it true that these EXACT screensavers are free elsewhere, and Astro Gemini is selling them? Legal or not, my opinion of their company would plummet. $19.95 is ridiculous for a screensaver that you COULDN'T find free elsewhere. I'd be interested to hear more about this.
Incidentally, to respond to yet another of WhiteRabbit's(#38) self-indulgent, long-winded bids for attention: I work with a man who is horribly disfigured and has mobility problems as a result of burns he suffered. I also know personally a man who was accidentally shot in the face and is blind as a result, and a woman who lost both legs when her car was plowed by a drunken driver. All three of these people, despite enourmous odds, manage to live full lives. All three work for a living. I've never heard them complain about their lot in life, probably because they understand better than most how precious life is.
They don't sit around all day feeling sorry for themselves, whinging to others about what happened to them and waiting for insurance payments and cadging freebies from the internet. And their outlook remains cheerful whether or not they are on their medication.
Perhaps, WhiteRabbit, you'll give them a thought next time you're staring glassy-eyed at your screensaver or tapping out your self-pity while your children play with their free games in another part of the house. You should be ashamed of yourself, sir.

The music on the screensaver is something I cold happily fall asleep to --which is desirable in a screensaver.

Minus:
The graphics are very chopping, more detail and texturing needs to be added on the sakura trees, the bridge and other items as well. If the developer were to more the simulation more life-like, this would be an excellent program.

im not a huge fan of screensavers, but honestly chill out they dont have to give anything and they do. besides this is supposed to be a forum discussing how the program works and if it does what it says, not a forum for bashing gaotd for offering stuff for free. relax, if they have something you like great, if not, oh well wait till tomoro.

While I won't bother with this (I miss my 1991 flying toasters but have LONG gotten over the screen savers), this has reminded me that I need to grab my camera and head out to where the cherry blossoms are blooming for a VERY short time. (And that I need to grab my camera anyway, since I haven't started packing for a seminar yet, and i fly out in 28 hours)My dad, an electronics tinkerer, considers a good afternoon of relaxation a glass of root beer and a screen saver, and no one bugging him. It's how he's actually spent a Father's Day or two.I'm slightly annoyed, at no fault of GAotD's, that I've only remembered to check just before I go to sleep, and that I doze off before I boot the other computer :( I was hoping for graphics, today, since I actually remembered to log on early. I'm NOT blaming GAotD for that, though! and I forwarded the screensaver to my book reviewer, who has a Japanese-theme sleeve tattooed on her right arm.

I appreciate that it's free, but I'll pass on this one. I don't use screensavers anyway. Thanks anyway GAOTD.

Thank you GAOTD for offering this great service. I don't understand why there are people that post negative comments just because they don't like some kind of software. So what if they don't, they are not alone, maybe there are even more who like that kind... And the queston "Who will buy" have nothing to do with the price of a thing. If someone thinks that a program don't worth the money the developers asked, then that someone is free to look and buy whatever she/he finds suitable.

About this program: Installed as a charm, but it works too slow for my computer. Unfortunately there is no option to decrease the level of detail, so while I am a great fan of japanese art, I have to look for something that works faster (smoothly). Perhaps it is best for those who have Vista for example, because almost sure they have a much better computer than I have.

I like screen savers but this screensaver feels really dated and the graphic quality is really low. Mind you it reminds us how far 3d has come since 1999. Anyway GAOTD have given plenty of nice screensavers and as some good utilities.

Does anyone know of a nice Chinese or Japanese themed screensaver with a simpler more "zen" feel?

Thanks for this screensaver. It is more interesting than the boring Vista logo one I've been using for the last 2 months. And this one actually works. The last screensaver I downloaded from this site (Castle 3D) would not work (error reading was "display driver igfx stopped responding and has successfully recovered" - whatever the heck that means). But this Japanese screensaver is working fine so far.
Pros: Kinda pretty and relaxing.
Cons: Loading it up takes too long. It makes the fan run really hard.
I might use this for a little while. Thanks.

Thanks GOTD,

I am not a 'big fan' for screen saver, however this is the 2nd sc I have downloaded. This is such a beautiful sc and I love it! I am sure alots of Japanese readers will be more delighted then me. The quality is great and graphics and music is almost 'unbeatable' compare. (I normally download and see whether I like it or I will uninstall if I don't.) This one definitely must 'keep'. Thanks and have a fantastic weekend everyone.

(Two thumbs up!)
