Helen, it is not so much the inconvenience that has caused a lot of the uproar here but the rude and uncalled for remarks but the Zortam Support team to some of the customers, users whatever you want to call them.
It has caused some prospective customers to not want to be customers period and the customers you did have I think are giving that second thoughts.
I don't know who is responsible for the comments below from your team but I think you might want to have a little chat with them about customer relations how to get them not chase them away!

Like others I have used previous offerings of this product & encountered far too many issues to even consider installing again......in fact reading this thread has reinforced that decision......indeed the reply from the Zortam team means I'll pass on any future offerings as well......not prepared to be a guinea pig or effective beta tester

I see there's a lot of issues with this giveaway prior and now

First to the company support

I would suggest that you advise to not update the program to keep the current licensed copy

change the pop up to inform your potential customers that the current license has expired instead of implying they are thief's

To the users.

the licensed giveaway is only valid for the current version and to keep the licensed you need to disable the autu update in the general setting of the program.

If you owned a previous version you will need to put in the current license code ignore the RUDE warning and put in the new Reg info and all your old settings should be preserved but like with anything the safe thing is to backup your data files before upgrading ;)

I hope this was helpful to those still willing to try out or keep this program :)

improvements needed program missing important features like a play all button or play directory buttons... also needs mouse over labels so people know what they do, esp on zortam Player It is very attractive but still very unstable in several different areas player needs internal make over It does not like switching modes while playing Experiment with it and you will find the faults.

I thought this program would be of use to me. I backed up a folder of .mp3 files and then did some processing to add missing things. As someone mentioned before, it renamed album and artist to gibberish. I restored the ruined files, and uninstalled this program.

Let me start off by saying I had got this program awhile back from this very site and was very happy with it. I used it and it really did a great job with my music library which is quite extent. I have a large collection and last night I went to do some more work on it and started my Zortman program and that's where my problems started.
Up popped a small window stating I had an illegal copy and had to purchase a license before I could use the program. Well I wasn't very happy considering I have used this program to clean up my library and now it doesn't work.
So I contacted Zortman last night via their contact them from their site. So this morning I was quite surprised to see an email from Zortman with a lifetime code and in my name which I thought was really good of them. I had said some things in my message to them I was a little sorry for before I gave them a chance to come good for a technical error on their end because I had a legal copy up till last night.
So I finished my morning coffee and figured I would put in my code and go back to their site and thank them for my lifetime copy. Needless to say that never happened because I put the code in and it didn't work so their I was ticked off all over again.
So I saw the GOTD email in my email box and what a surprised to find Zortman was the GOTD today. So I used the activation code and again have a working version of Zortman not a lifetime one which I thought was really good of them but as long as nothing goes wrong like it must have to make my version illegal I will be able to use it.
Now that I have that out of the way I would like to give the good news which in a way I hate to do because of what they have done by giving me a lifetime code that was about as good as the one I had before I had one that was illegal according to them and one that didn't work but now thanks to GOTD I have a working one again and am happy.
This is a great program like I said earlier I have used this to take care of my large library of music and it works great! If you only get the name or artist of the song it will search and fill in all the blanks.
Once you get your library in order using this program and you look at it in the folder it looks fantastic. All your info for each song or album is all there and it looks very professional.
This program installed and I used the code and name to activate it and it all went flawless. But if I ever end up with an illegal copy notice again it will be the last time I will use it and find a new program to use. I am thinking on doing it anyway just to have a backup program in case this ever happens again which I would suggest you all do. Have another program ready that you have already familiarized yourself with so you won't end up in a panic situation like I did.
Thanks GOTD you have came through again and the timing couldn't have been better !! Thanks to the Zortman's program site for offering the program again as again the timing couldn't have been better. But I will suggest you do some checking on lifetime codes you send out and make sure they work as it is very disappointing to a customer to think a company has come good for a wrong on their end only to find out that it doesn't work either.
That's how you lose customers which if this copy ever comes up illegal you will lose this customer !!

kevin, I have never had that problem. Mind you I had the older version and haven't really done much with this new version and don't know if I am even going to keep it.
The older version 2010 which I got here I believe it was Feb 23/16 worked great then the other night is when it said it was an illegal copy. So far this version isn't as user friendly and I think I am going to look for a different program.
I wish that I could help more and I been trying to get it to do what you are saying is happening but it fills some of the tags properly and some it just leaves blank. I have tried doing it several different way and it just continues to work the way I said.
What I am wondering do you think you might have another program that could be causing a conflict ? Or a antivirus proggy causing trouble? That's the only thing I can think of that could be causing your problems. Sorry I can't be of anymore help but if I do get it to do what u say and I find the cause and problem I will b sure to come backand post it.

Nektarios Prekas, also because your code is only valid for the then current version go into general settings and disable update checks.

also don't manually update the program ;)

Hi everybody. :-)

I found there's a portable version of this program and I wanted to try it.
An exe was downloaded...???
I have then INSTALLED the PORTABLE version.
The INSTALLER wasn't signed:

"Do you want to allow this app from an UNKNOWN publisher to make changes to your device?"

The application didn't even start...

Using: Windows 10 home x64, DEP AlwaysOn, windows defender, windows firewall, gridinsoft antimalware, custom scaling 150%.

The firewall is set to block everything either outgoing or ingoing.

I hope I shouldn't try to start the application for more than 48 hours.

I wanted this primarily as a simple CD ripper. Three times I have tried to rip. An entire CD twice and just one track. I get an error of "encountered improper argument" or some similar verbiage. And NO MP3 files are created. I will try with another CD but as of now this looks like it will be uninstalled.

Martin Toomajian, MP3 Tag Express does a great job of ripping audio CDs to MP3, and it can even auto-tag them. It costs money, but you get what you pay for.

I do not like software that uploads and downloads info, tags, files and who knows what else in the background without telling me what is transferring and why. Some of my tags where changed into Chinese language.
Therefore, uninstalled.

Reply   |   Comment by Samuel  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+29)

Samuel, Problem there is if you want a program to fill in blanks on tags for your music it has to do exactly that to find the right info to fill in the blanks.
Believe me right now I am not supporting this program after what I have gone through with them but I will give the truth when it needs saying and that is long and short of it to fill in blanks!

Reply   |   Comment by Wolf  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-1)

Wolf, The tags were filled with Chinese characters, backrouned communication was going on without alerting the user of what files were sent out and in.
That is not a normal software behavior.

Well, this certainly sounded good. It's the first GOTD I've taken a second look at in a few weeks. I always read the comments as the deciding factor to try an application or not.

After reading through these, Zortam needs Customer Service 101 and GOTD 101 as well. Maybe next time, you guys will have it together as your product sounds very nice in pixels.

Reply   |   Comment by Ava  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+5)

Ava, You couldn't have said it any better lol! If you read my comments once they are posted you will find I am not a very happy customer when a program you have been using for quite some time to catalog your whole mp3 library and you go to use it and it starts up and a window pops up in front telling you that your copy is illegal and to go buy a license at their site before going any further.
So as I said in my post I was quite surprised to see the very same proggy offered today but just prior to that you see the company trying to keep a customer happy by sending them a lifetime code and in your own name what could be better to that? I will tell you one that works lol ! Mine didn't work so I was glad to see it here and installed this one because even though I am not happy with them the program is really a great program and fills in all the blanks.

Had tried this Zortam MP3 media studio before.
Somehow it cannot make the grade.
Will be skipping this.
.
MP3 Tag Express by George Taylor (another Giveawayof the day) is better.
TagScanner by Sergey Serkov is portable and FREE. It is better.
Mp3tag by Florian Heidenreich is FREE and average.

I have been providing support to customers who bought my software as far back as five years, and will continue to do so until I stop breathing. Cheers.

I, for one, certainly do NOT appreciate informing me that my previous giveaway version of Zortam Mp3 Studio is an illegal copy.

You need to get yourselves in order if you're going to receive positive comments from faithful users.

Mick, Same here went to use it last night and got the message I had an illegal copy. Not a very good feeling considering how many songs you have cataloged thru this legal program and now first thing comes to mind is OMG I'm screwed i'm going to lose all that work I've done.
Thanks goodness for GOTD because the company that sent me my very own lifetime code for a copy in my own name couldn't even get that straight !
But give credit where it belongs it's a great little program for cataloging all you music and I really enjoyed using it.

And - again I ask why - on the giveawayoftheday.com page the "Vote to get it as the giveaway" continues with the same-same WinX / Syncio programs.

I am appalled at the comment from ZORTA SUPPORT. I had an older version of this program and was looking forward to the updated Giveaway. However, after this extremely sarcastic comment I'll not be downloading this one. It also has to do with that "half-hour" test as well.

People here that download programs often rely on those "half-hour" tests to see if a program is going to be suitable for their needs. Personally, I have found these comments extremely useful in my choices of programs to try out.

I certainly hope that Giveaway will be looking at the comments and will reconsider the NEXT time a "ZORTA" product is offered.

Reply   |   Comment by Harry  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+35)

Harry, You are absolutely correct !! One cannot give a fair and or full review of any program in a half hour or hour even.
But you can give a quick review on downloading installing and activating program and that's about it. They can give a quick review of the looks and if it looks user friendly but to say anything much more would be a stretch.
If I was the one in charge for Zortmans I would be looking for the smart ass that left that very unnecessary comment to a customer let alone on a site that has tons of followers and users such as this one to give him or her their walking papers!

Installed on Windows 10 without any problems and already registered. That said GUI is very cluttered and the tag editor didn't work. Uninstalled, another waste of time.

Go a bit excited about this, so I checked it out.

1. no drag and drop..

2. Having to import folders to work on MP3s is a bit cumbersome to me. Much prefer Mp3Tag in that you just point at the folder you want to work on. (Mp3tag is free)

3. The whole interface is cumbersome to use for me. It looks like it tried to do many things poorly. "Jack of all trades and master of none"

4. Clicked on an Mp3 that had no tags... Dialog opened stating "Encountered an improper argument." then zplayer crashed with "stackhash_c676 code c0000374"

5. So I then focues on what I wanted from a tag editor: Multiple Tags: Sadly it can't handle them. And tag info after the first marker is simply "Lost".

6. Doesnt appear that you can find out where the software searches for it's cover art. I like to use "https://archive.org/details/coverartarchive" if needed... I see no option to choose where you get your cover art.

7. Normalize no mention of what method is used. No ability to chose a method. I would have liked to have tested "Loudness normalization by RMS value"

8. No Manual. Another trend is this modern age. There are no manuals help maximise a tools use. IF there was I could have searched it with cntr-f and found any regerence to "Cover Art"

I'll stick wth mp3tag and foobar which FULLY support multiples tags. (I beleive this means the tags in the filed are separated by binary 00). Pass on Zortam till it's more mature in this area.

Foobar is also free.

I'd be interested to know if it uses RMS normalisation.. Not many use this excellent method.

Time is precious, I may be wrong with some of my comments, but in the 30 minutes I had spare this is what I found (or didnt).

Hello from Zortam,

Thank you for your detail explanation after 1/2 hour of testing our program.
For more serious users this program should be tested at least for 2 days before making some comments.

Any suggestions are more then welcome at support@zortam.com

zorta support, The person who tested it found these problems, why then do they need to test it any further. Also this Giveaway is only for 24hrs so there is a limit on how long one can test it for.

Reply   |   Comment by Harroman  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+111)

zorta support, I'd say that perhaps if you'd included more info on the software capabilities you might get a more positive feedback and yes I agree half an hour isn't long enough to fully asses it but in my case the tag editor simply didn't work and that put me off straight away.

Reply   |   Comment by DaveC  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+41)

Harroman, I agree. Their response is probably the worst support response I have seen. First, they insult a person who took the time to test their product by suggesting Mememe is not a "serious user," then suggest Memememe withhold comments until after giveaway period is over, so that most site visitors here would never see them. Finally, they misspelled their email, "suppor_@zortam.com" (missing the "T" at the end of "support") - rather careless. The response from Ian Collins below suggests that they don't really support the program, or their customers, either.
I'll pass today, thanks anyway. And thanks to Mememe and ian Collins for the helpful reviews.

Reply   |   Comment by JK  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+13)

alordofchaos, it seems that Zortam have missed the point of posting their software on GOTD ... So that it can be showcased (being kind here) and evaluated in the hope that we will buy it, but if the posted comment from Zortam is typical of their suppor(t) that alone would put me off having any dealings with them. GOTD should introduce a scorecard system, one for the software and another for the quality of the developers support or lack of.

zorta support: Good thing you're not in the business of selling cars then. As in:

'Hi, zorta (or, um, Zortam). Can I have a test drive of your new car?'
Answer: 'Of course.'
'For how long?'
'24 hours.'
'Thanks!'
'Just so long as you realize, no way can you properly evaluate the car in 24 hours.'
'Oh?'
'You need at least 48 hours. Otherwise, any conclusions you come to will be half-baked.'
'Ah. So can I have 48?'
'Absolutely not.'

And the Award for Most Inspired Marketing of 2016 goes to . . .

zorta support, the problems Mememe found are real. Do you think additional testing will make those problems magically disappear? In reality, it would only add to the list of problems: If that many [problems are found in just 1/2 hour, imagine how many more would be found given a lot more testing time!

Reply   |   Comment by Roy  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+35)

zorta support,

You would like a program to be tested for a whole two days before determining its usefulness? Ridiculous to say the least? Would you pay for any damage done to systems and utilities in the end?

Mememe, I had used the previous program that they offered and it was great I really enjoyed using it. But I have tried this version out somewhat today and I am sorry I had to upgrade to this version as I liked the other one much better.
