Until now I am surprised and really satisfied with the quality of the software.
It's really easy to instal and to use. It's simple and beautiful as well, and to the millions of people around the world that speaks Portuguese I can tell you it is really well translated.
You will be surprised with the fact that even the smallest village is here available for you to choose.
It's a good software. I recommend it.

Downloaded and installed on Vista HP Service Pack 2 with no problems. Registration was simple via the provided webpage though it took some time for the email with the registration key to arrive. Even without the key, the program was easy to look through and set up options. The graphics are a bit cheesy but once registered you can use your own photos if you wish. I was quite surprised to find my little hole in the wall town among those in the list! I did not like that it changed my screensaver without telling me, though. It was an easy fix but I hate when programs change settings that aren't necessary for the running of the program!

YoWindow does not turn screen-saver option on automatically.
Probably "Set As Screensaver" check mark was set during the installation.

Reply   |   Comment by Pavel Repkin  –  9 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

I did not set it to change during installation. I ran the install, opened the program and then realized that it reset my screensaver after it kicked in. There was no option during the install to opt in or out of this setting before opening the program. You can say that it doesn't turn on the screen saver option automatically but it did during the install.

Installed this program from an earlier giveaway. Biggest disappointment was that the night sky is a complete fake rather than a realistic depiction of the stars as seen from the selected location at the current time. It was also amusing to me that I could choose "airport" and get a depiction of a busy international airport with planes coming and going frequently for a location on the list that is a rural town of about 2,000 inhabitants. If I want current weather, either local or for other locations, there are other programs that give much more information than this one without the distracting misleading graphics.

I use Mozilla with latest Flash plugin (16.), but each time I try to start the program the "To enjoy YoWindow you need to install Flash Player (for Internet Explorer) 10.2 or later." message turns up.
Do I need Internet Explorer to get it work???

As a confirmed weather nut, I had to try this out. Installed & activated on Win 8.1x64 without a hitch. Cute little program, runs in realtime. The current state of the weather can be a little bit out, due to it coming from Norway, but it's a bit of weather fun & a keeper for me. Thank you Pavel & GAOTD for sharing this one.

I've had the free version for a month or so. It's a bit of a pain to add your own photo, especially removing a sky. There are instructions provided, but you need to know photoshop or another program, and know how to use layers to remove a sky. You also have to know how to resize the dimensions of your photo to fit Yo Window.

This installed fine on Windows XP SP3 32-bit. However:
1. I see nothing visible running, but I may not understand how to use it... still gotta figute that out.
2. For some reason, this seems to have activated Proxy mode on Firefox.... can't imagine why, though, so I'm not sure. I had to disable the proxy to connect to the internet again
3. Was somehow blocking Internet Explorer and Outlook Express from connecting to the internet. IE would give an "address not found" error while Outlook would lock up whenever I tried to go online.

When I killed this process, everything sprang to life, and the GAoTD successfully activated "dummy" page was finally opened (I noticed it had not before, even though the wrapper had closed)
Oh yes, and my town isn't listed either, acording to someone who actually go it working. I know, you can request a town to be added, but with all these problems, I'm going to just blow it all away. Thanks, but no thanks.

Reply   |   Comment by David  –  9 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

YoWindow is dependant on Flash ActiveX control.
Probably Flash is the reason behind the technical problems.
Other than that there is no code inside YoWindow that changes Proxy settings or whatever system settings you may imagine.

Hi GOTD,

Great weather app, I have this on my Samsung and love it. One of the best weather apps out there. Now i have it for my computer. It installed really easy. No issues. I have a 32 bit windows that runs on Vista. Hope this helps. GOTD thanks for the many years of free software. Love the hidden objects games. Keep up the good work.

Many Thanks,

@ Pavel
I have a licence since a couple years back. Wonder if it would be possible, for the backgrounds, to specify which direction (south, east, west, north in Australia?) the photo is facing? - right now, in the West-facing Prague castle picture, for example, the sun rises in the South and sets North...

Installed fine on Win 7/64. working great. Glad to have this...beats having to work my way through the NOAA site, and its fun as well. Tried to install on my wife's computer, also a win 7/64 but she is using Google Chrome as her browser. the program seemed to download OK and it is running OK but I cannot register it. I go to the website given in the "read me" section but Never receive an email with the registration code. Suggestions???

Lnyy, check your spam box. I use Gmail, and my registration key showed up in about 60 seconds. I was hoping that registering woukd make more landscapes available than one, but I gusee if I want the rest of the landscapes I could loosten up and buy the program - I really like it. It really does give a LOT of weather information in a fum way - keeper for me.

Pavel, two suggestions: I use win 7 64 os.
1) is there a way to have a small box show where windows widgets are? I currently have a calander and round clocl widget showing there,
2) I will buy this if you could have a winter landscape with a village, trees with colored lights (Christmas?) and adjustable rate of snow falling. Just wishing, of course, but that would be so awesome.

Thanks for the great & fun weather program!

YoWindow turns into the winter mode in the Winter, obviously, but you can fake it in Location properties.
Once you have entered the License key provided in the giveaway - all the landscapes are unlocked.
Windows widets are not supported yet, sorry.

Just installed on my desktop with Windows 7. Install was smooth and clean. It looks great! Played around with it a little and was very pleased that I can add on my favorite locations alongside my personal one and "see" the weather from my favorite spots in the world. The option to add it as a screensaver was a nice touch. The fact that the images are a little childish actually adds to its charm. And like the founder of YoWindow project said on his comment, it makes checking the weather less boring than it has to be. I'm keeping it!

To get an accurate weather forecast this software must pull info in the background from various sources in order to give accurate info. I do not not know what info and from what sources is connected and without me know about, I will not install it just because of that.

I have scroll bars on my browsers for the accurate weather that is updated minute by minute and with radar and direction of the storm(s) movement from weather.weatherbug.com and weather underground, sources I know and trust.

Installed and runs fine on my Win 7 64-bit system. Would like to see radar data but not a BIG issue. This well thought out and coded app is definitely a KEEPER for me. I am so fed up with Weather.com's advertising hate to even use it. I thought I might NOT be able to use YO Window though because my location was not initially available. However, using the included search function for a new location quickly and accurately "found me".

Regarding the license key. For those of you who are still waiting for it, the (YO Window) website indicates it could take up to an hour to receive) you may wish to resubmit using a different eMail/ISP. In my case, it appears that my primary ISP (Comcast.net) has blocked incoming eMail from the YO Window server as I never received the license key. I resubmitted using a different eMail address/ISP and it arrived almost instantly.

Thank you Pavel (YO Window) and GOTD, for me, YO Window is a really nice, easy-to-use and useful app.

I've been using YoWindow it seems like forever now. Have it on my Galaxy S4 as well. When I started using it, there was one background and it was a very simple program. It has branched out to include other backgrounds, more information and though the backgrounds are not the latest and greatest pixel/3D/camera real images, they reflect the weather perfectly and they are changeable as someone else posted above. The customer support has always been first rate and though I live in the US and the developer is in Russia, not once has there ever been a question as to any of my information being 'leaked.' Thanks, Pavel, for a fun, accurate program!

My installation was easy on a Win7 64-bit system and I seem to recall the pleasant country scene. Unlike an earlier comment (above) I wasn't asked for my email address (to register) as the program seems to be fully activated via GAOTD.

Unfortunately my location seems not to be available on yr.no. I have no idea what the yr.no path is supposed to be to enter on the YoWindow web site. My town, Perth Ontario Canada, is not Geonames ID 6101545 which refers to Perth County in the western part of the province of Ontario. The coordinates of my town are 44.90011, -76.24939 versus 43.5001 -81.0830 for the county.

YoWindow offers assistance in the forums to add a location but the detailed instructions to be followed (viewtopic.php?f=7&t=13) are not available. My town is found at geonames.org.

So, my bottom line is that this seems to be a nice utility; however, for me it is not useful since my location cannot be found. Many thanks to the author for making it available to others...

I've been using Yo Window since it first came out. I did purchase the full version and have not been sorry. I absolutely love this program. When I walk by my computer and see snow on the screensaver, it's snowing outside. I have used the support forum several times and have not had one bad experience. My questions were always answered and in a timely fashion. I don't usually comment here but I had to add my comments after reading Karl's review. The program is nice, clean, and above all, accurate!

Installed on iPad- it is free today too. In my personal opinion- not bad app at all. The only thing I really don't like- it has some bothering advertisment banner on the top.

Again- I'm talking about iOS, haven't try this on Windows.

Pavel- is that the way it should be?

I think you're confusing the free ad-supported version with the paid for version?
Certainly in the U.K. the paid version isn't free today.
I did download the free version on my phone and it's nice, and does have Ads at the top. (I didn't bother trying the codes given above to remove Ads as they're for the Android version.)

The European law does not oblige every web site to make public their real name and address. In fact, this obligation is mandatory for business entities, but not for individuals. One could argue that an individual who develop software and sells them actually runs a business ---and therefore must be registered as a business entity; in such case, not registering is, in principle, not an option. Of course, European laws apply only within the EC, which does not (and never will) include Russia.

Authors who post their picture and resume on their web sites are not so uncommon among Russian individuals who try to make a living with software they create.

Why this may not be detailed in terms of a forecasting/radar mechanism, it surely doesn't take away from any functionality. I've been using this software for quite a while, it does the job. One complaint is the screensaver mode. Is there a way it can support dual monitors?

I have this on my mobile phone & computer. When I first got it, I thought "Cute. I probably won't use it that much." mostly because I hate looking up the weather & I thought this would suffer from being more cute than useful. I'm usually on "punishment internet" so navigating to one of the weather sites to get some details is laborious and time consuming because they are so graphics heavy and the time/date/weather apps aren't detailed enough. I started using this instead and have fallen in love with it. It's got a very pleasing look to it and it downloads all of the pertinent information from my local weather stations. It does not have radar imaging but personally, I don't feel the need to look at radar imaging for my own weather prediction. Don't get me wrong, I love looking at radar when I can and watching how storms move, but where I live (mountainous areas), it's a crap shoot to use it to predict where a storm will track, even for the pros. In addition, pulling down radar imaging video chews up the band-width, so it's a double plus for me not to have this type of feature included.

This program very quickly downloads all I need to know about the current weather and future predictions and displays the most important aspects (like what it is actually doing) graphically. In fact, just about everything you get from your local weather forecast is given: conditions, wind speed, barometer, barometer rise/fall, humidity, temperature, relative temperature, sunrise, sunset, & moon phase. With the exception of the barometer, all of these are predicted and displayed in the future forecasts as well.

As for the interface, I think it is very cleverly done. The background changes with the seasons. After bare winter, we are now in an early spring bud view. Scrolling forward in time you can see that the background will change into full summer look, then into fall and back to winter. It will even add snow if the prediction says we'll get coverage. The seasonal changes are based on when these events generally happen locally.

If it is raining, it will be raining on screen. The only drawback to this feature is that there doesn't seem to be a difference for light rain, showers, etc. (although it does have thunderstorms). It's just steady rain. However, the cloud coverage changes so I've learned that light cloud coverage generally means occasional rain or light rain. One nice feature is that the direction of rainfall is influenced by wind readings.

You aren't limited to scrolling to get future forecasts, you can simply navigate to a particular day, then move the slider around that day to get an idea of what it will do. You can also easily see when the sun will rise/set in the time slider (it's embedded graphically). Moon phases are easily seen as the moon rises/sets as well.

On the interface I chose, there are cows and horses that wander in and out of the scene; sometimes singly, sometimes in pairs. A pleasing little house with lights that come on at night and turn off late; a family dog that barks on occasion and even coyote howls, bird cries and sometimes birds flying. All these things happen randomly, so it seems to be more real.

What really impressed me was when I discovered I could interact with the interface a bit. It's different between the computer and phone. On the computer, if you hover over one of the animals, you'll get a pop-up that displays it's name. If you click once, you'll get a comment from the animal. If you click multiple times, it makes funny little comments. One the phone, if you shake it, you get one of three graphics displayed. While it isn't much, it shows quite a bit of forethought and care from the developer and makes it a bit more interactive & fun.

One last bit that may only work with the desktop version: you can change the view to something you prefer if you don't like the included scenes. Simply find or take a picture and follow the instructions on the web site to modify it properly and your own scene can be superimposed over the sunrise/sunset sky.

Overall, I've really enjoyed this program and find it very useful. Those who I've encouraged to try it have enjoyed it. For new visitors to GAOTD, one note about the missing address that seems to be such an issue in the comments: don't worry about it. Physical addresses are easily faked, especially online. I'd be more concerned with how/if the program collects and uses data and if purchasing, there are plenty of ways to make a purchase without giving away your personal information. I've downloaded lots of crap from GAOTD from companies WITH addresses that I wouldn't trust to tie my shoes. The developer seems very keen to interact with his customers, both here and on the program's site forums and the program hasn't caused any issues with my computer or phone since I installed it a few months ago. Obviously, I highly recommend this.

Seems a pleasant Weather app for Windows - I do agree it would be nice to have a choice of exiting to the system tray or exiting completely. I've also downloaded their free iOS App to see what that's like.

@ JohnL and Eddy Booth

The combination exits the programme. You may check it under the "Program" menu.

Installed and registered. The first email-address wasn't accepted by informing "only one license each email-address" - but my first email-address has no license, yet!? The email which I got states that the license key would be for YoWindow3. But it works with the offered YoWindow4.
At the end of the installation I was asked for my country -> Germany, resulting in "Aktualisierungsfehler" for the City-selection. Okay, so yowindow was installed with NEW York. I restarted YoWindow, tried selection of Germany, same Problem. Selected Denmark, it works. Why is there this error message when I try to select Germany?

I just have tried to repeat this problem, but I can't.
I can easily select Germany and choose any city.

Deinstalled, reboot, installed this time in English without changing anything more during the installation process. Anyway, I can select many countries with their cities. But when I'll select "Germany" the city-selection shows update error. Also a retry cannot help.

I could overcome (but not solve) this problem. Instead of choosing Germany and City under Program/Options, I could add my location directly with the + button right beneath the preset New York. So I could add even a small village.

I've had it before and love it.
The animation and sounds are a nice and cheerful, even peaceful, way to see the weather - sunrise sunset animation shown too, on several lovely backgrounds.

Only annoying thing is, when I try to exit the program - close the full window - it only closes down to systems tray, so I have to close it again there... if i remember.
Please fix this, and make an option to close it in one go.

Press Ctrl-Q to exit the app completely.

I like it - I added one of my own pictures of hot air balloons - right now it's dark out, and so is the picture, but I clicked on different times and was able to see when it became daylight, and when it's going to rain later today. Definitely a keeper for me. Thanks very much!

Is there a way to delete a picture I added?

Reply   |   Comment by Miss Pita  –  9 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

All of the pictures quit working, the ones that came with the program and the ones I added. :(

Yes, Miss Pita. You can do that in settings. I just did. It's a pity some of the other pics and files won't work. I'm trying to figure that out. It worked in the first attemt, but after reboot, it wouldn't show Taj Mahal or the pyramid as well. Perhaps other have a fix for that. I'm running both Win7 and Win8.1.3 Thanks in advance.

Installed and registered very quickly as e-mail arrived within seconds, opened up to a pleasing interface.

After 30 years see and the fact that I live in the UK means I am more or less addicted to weather forecasts and I really like the fact that it is in my taskbar, on mouseover it gives me good information about the current situation, a click on it opens the full programme window.

The fact that the name and address of the developer are not given because of his circumstances, developed at his home, is perfectly acceptable as a contact e-mail address is given.

A really nice and handy little program that I will be very happy to keep, if I was buying it I couldn't complain about the price either, so different than yesterday's download.

My original comment was posted after a very short test of the program and bearing in mind it's cost I didn't expect any more than what I saw at face value.
The very attractive and simple interface has many more functions than I originally noticed such as the ability to move backwards and forwards in short and long steps of time. Under options I was able to set the units that I'm most familiar with, a big bonus.

What I'm trying to say is that as a developer I just love to see programs of this quality, we do get them from time to time on this site but never at this cost level. This is a program that I do not want to be without, a little gem!

When living in Scandinavia, this screensaver is in fact useable - especially when styled with another than given themes. Btw if you allready has an earlier version installed, you can just overwrite it - and no need to use the registration procedure. If you do, you'll get the message : E-mail allredy in use. Only 1 licence pr user. Just for information. Thanks a lot for the generous offer to Repkasoft and team GAOTD. Have a nice weekend :-)

Thank you!
I think I must praise Scandinavia here.
We are very grateful for Norwegian yr.no to provide us with the free access to the wonderful weather forecast.

@Pavel Repkin. You're absolutely right, Sir. yr.no is the best weather station in Scandinavia. Professional fishermen and other jobs, where the weather is very important, uses yr.no as the first choice. Well I'm a Dane - surrounded by sea, and we are indeed interested in the weather forecast, since a lot of Danes works at sea or in agroculture. Well, we don't need a screensaver for that, bur the fact, that yr,no delivers the weather forecast, it makes sense to me. Thanks for the freeware solution as wll, Pavel. The only screensaver, I actually uses.
