For the GOTD forum members who have had problems registering or making this giveaway software work, perhaps they can consider a freeware alternative.

NBXsoft Free Screen Recorder
http://www.nbxsoft.com/screen-recorder.php
I just used this to do a screen video capture (user selectable region) choosing any of the video codecs already installed in my PC. I chose Microsoft Mpeg-4 codec V1.
Audio codec is MP3. Result of screen capture (avi file)on playback is good and sharp video with clear synchronised sound. Hot Keys are F8 (start) and F9 (stop) To cancel press (Esc). You can change the hot keys if you want to. The defaults are just fine for me. Click the wheel icon (General Options) and then select [Set Fixed Region] to fix the area on the screen you wish to capture video from.

sounded interesting enough to want to give it a try. Downloaded, installed, no problems. Big Problem as others have said, "Purchase Failed" and check pay pal comment. On public Wi-Fi. Guess I wasn't the first. What a shame can't try it

I have thrown out ALL my screenrecorder software after I discovered the totally free OBS. It let’s me record everything I want to record, even things that NO OTHER screenrecorder wnats to record. It is officially a streaming software and is widely used by the gaming community to stream to twitch. you want to record a desktop.. noproblem, you want to record a progrram… no problem, you want to record one of those “unrecordable” flashvideos…. no problem, you want to record your playrix.alawar game (which almost no current gmmaerecorder can handle)… no problem.

For example the Snowfox Screen Recorder software given away in 2011 is still functioning perfectly today. And it will be functioning perfectly 10 years from now.

Will not run for me. I installed to c:\utilities directory instead of the default location. When I tried to run it I received a dialogue box with the following message:

Error at hooking API "LdrFindResource_U" Dumpiing first 32 bytes: 8B FF 55 8B EC F6 05 89 03 FE 7F 01 0F 85 59 49 04 00 56 FF 75 14 6A 00 FF 75 10 FF 75 0C FF 75.

I then installed to the default directory and still received the same dialogue box.

I have an ACER Aspire 5733Z-4851 w/4GB DDR3 Memory, 500GB HD, Intel Pentium P6100 running Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit).

I am running in a "sandbox" using Returnil.

Too much of a bother to try any troubleshooting for a program that would rarely be used anyway. Thumbs Down.

It's something on your end, when hooking of third-party software fails, it is a issue with other software blocking the hooking process, in 99% anti-keystroke, anti-keylogger, antivirus protection etc..

It took me a while to figure that one out but if you have problems getting the activation code, try a different browser. I had success with Firefox 36.0, looks like SmartPixel hates Chrome for some reason.

One registration per IP?
There are 4 different people in this house with 4 different computers and email addresses, that are members of GOTD,
and only one of us can download a program today because we share the same ISP? Incredible! That's 4 people that could buy this program in a year.
Forget it. Program is not worth the hassle anyway, when there are so many other options, free and paid, with 1-3 PC licenses!!!!
Smart move GAOTD, and SmartPixel.
We pass on this too.

You can set up how you want to have the output look before you even start recording. you can add text and images WHILE recording (granted, you need to make some preperations first)

Downloaded it, tried it...never looked back https://obsproject.com/

Same IP?
MediaCom (my very crappy ISP) puts hundreds and hundreds of subscribers on the same IP address.

There's no reason to use high hassle subscription software.
The choices in any niche are varied. A good product allows one machine one license for life of the computer--at worst, new purchase for a new machine.
Video editing and recording is a crowded field.
With the 1 year limitation, not interested at all.

I got a 1-year trial of v.3.0 over a year ago because I try every video editor I can find. Concerning the video editing portion I'll say two things. #1: This is the most difficult to understand software I've ever seen, not that it doesn't work, I just couldn't figure out how to get it to work correctly. #2: It has some of the most interesting features for an inexpensive editor I've seen - like variable slo-mo.
So, I will install this (if they'll allow it) and "do battle" once more, hoping they have made it easier. Why? Because I really want some of the unusual abilities and if I can get it to work, I'll buy it.

If you're after an intuitive editor, give one of the Vegas versions a try -- from time to time you can find different home versions for cheap or even free after MIR.

The editor in Nero [or Nero Platinum] isn't bad, & when they're running sales the current Plat. version goes for around $35, or free after rebate -- old versions are sometimes on sale in the $18 range.

Corel Video Studio Pro is another one that's sometimes heavily discounted, especially just before a new version is released -- I've seen it for $15-$30.

Lots of people use Adobe's Premiere Elements, though the only times I've seen it cheaper is bundled with P/Shop Elements. Shotcut & VirtualDub & Wax are free, & there's a free version of Lightworks. You can also get DaVinci Resolve free, though like Lightworks there's a bit of a learning curve. There are more of course, but these are ones I've used & don't hesitate to recommend others give them a try if they want.
http://www.videohelp.com/software/sections/video-editors-advanced

That said, the correct way to do slow motion is to shoot it at a [sometimes much] higher fps than normal -- then you have the actual frames you need when you play it at normal fps. If you start with video at a normal fps, to maintain a normal fps in your finished video when using for example 1/2 the original frame rate, you have to generate in between frames -- there is no great way to do that. Photo/video morphing apps let you mark areas of the picture to move, & that can help, but generally the results are not going to match the original sharpness & clarity by any means.

At any rate, just a quick word of warning so you don't spend too much time & effort on something when you may not be happy with the results. For just playing around with slow motion you can always try shooting the video with your cell or tablet -- Google & you'll see apps just for that.

Thanks Mike. Good info. BTW, on a whim I opened my old version to take another look before uninstalling and it automatically updated to version 3.5 (today's)???
I'll have to check it out to see if it's fully functional since it was supposed to expire a month ago. Unfortunately, at first glance it looks to be just as awkward as ever.

Reply   |   Comment by ChuckT  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+11)

#1 I shouldn't have said "automatically" on the update. I had to click OK on the popup, of course. One annoying thing this software "automatically" did (at lleast in v.3.0) is entrench itself in all kinds of file associations. I'm STILL trying to weed out a couple of them and I'm pretty good at that kind of thing.

#2 Too late, Mike. I've already spent hundreds of hours playing around with cheap A/V software.
#3 There is no HELP file for this program, only a link to a forum which is laden with propaganda.

Reply   |   Comment by Alphonso W Foster Jr  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+52)

Just change your IP!

Reply   |   Comment by Fishbone  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-56)

Changing the ip is correct, though I'm not sure how many will bother, or if that's a workable situation. The easiest way AFAIK is to use the TOR browser, but that'll work for the 1st person the 1st time, then you'll start to run into the same problem -- the ip for each exit node can only be used once, same as your real ip.

If you have cable broadband, you can use Google/Bing to find out how to force a new ip from your ISP, but that's often not something that happens instantly, & may for many people be more hassle than it's worth.

Or you can find & use a proxy, though again you wind up with the same problem as with Tor -- each exit node can only be used once.

Dear GOTD users,

please note that you get the error message when you enter the code twice under the same IP.

Sincerely,

Problem with that is some ISPs have a high IP turnover in their pool (several customers may get to use the same IP). Also WiFi hotspots are bad for this as they usually share one IP for all their customers.

Following Readme.txt instructions, I go to the page & fill in my name & the coupon code - It keeps telling me either there's an error on the page or to select a package (1 year is selected.) I tried deselecting/reselecting, reloading the page, using an alternate e-mail (maybe it doesn't like gmail), including the space before and the period after the coupon code (variously) and yes, the box at the bottom is checked.
To be honest though, I've used (paid for) SnagIt for a long time and this SmartPixel doesn't sound interesting enough to fret over any further. I generally figure that a publisher with a registration portal that I can't easily get through, probably isn't who I want to deal with anyway. The publisher might want to look at what's happening because although I might be the only one to have this problem so far, it might discourage someone who's interested in buying.

Got the one-year code and activated the program successfully. ;-) The wizard is very neat incl editor, recorder and webcam. The default video file is FLV so I can upload the recorded video to my YouTube at one go. I just finished a round of my game and burnt the recorded video to the homemade DVD disc with this giveaway and freeware dvd authoring tool, WinX DVD Author (http://www.winxdvd.com/dvd-author/). These two easy-to-use programs make wonders and strongly recommended for me. The only catch is that if you want to use the watermark feature, you have to upgrade to the full version.

Comment by vanierstein - And what happens at the end of the one-year period ?? I guess we have to fork out $16 (£11). Still free for one year though.

Downloaded, installed to Windows 7 and activated without problems, other than it has a non resizable screen, small, white on black. Cost of more powerful specs likely to be more than cost of software.

Coincidentally, I've been trying out screen recorders recently for one that suits my purpose, so I'll be giving this a good work out in the hope that it suits me - info on that later with luck.

Thanks to GAOTD, and SmartPixel

You have to buy it. If you go to their website you will see it is only by subscription. It does not work "permanently" when you purchase it. The site gives prices for 1 year and 5 year subscriptions.

Not had a chance to install this yet but seeing that this is timeware, one has to wonder if you block it from phoning home after it's registered if it will continue to work past 1 year as a full version. When I get home tonight, I think I'll install it, block it, advanced pc's date by 2 years and see if it still works. Alot of trouble but past experience with this kind of software is just block it from egressing from your PC and it continues to work. If it HAS to phone home each time you use it, then there's another issue and a death sentance for this software as being useful for everyone. Just a thought.

When you block the program in the firewall, you will lose all benefits from the activation, it behaves like unregistered/free version then.
