Using Atlantis W/P and very very happy. The table work is very much more advanced then WPS. I have WPS free on the system to for conversions from some other WP formats into .docx . What i have found is DOCX files tend to render better on LO/OO-WPS-Atlantis W/P software.. I would go back to LO/OO IF they or WPS had better table handling.. yes they all make tables and move the cell walls for a row or column BUT Atlantis has better table support, you can do each cell as its own and move the walls for single cells where you can on WPS or LO/OO that is the stopper for me..

Win 7/64. Downloaded, installed and activated quickly and easily. Program wants to install in App Data folders, but I don't like, and moved it to program files. Cant do the ribbon thing. Nice to have the option of using the Classic UI. Everything I do in the program while setting my preferences, gives me a notice that some settings will have to be updated. I have refused because I don't want to loose my free year. Is this happening to others? Downloaded some Templates. I had a previous account from a GOTD 2012. Then it was Kingsoft Office. Nice program. I
liked it before, and I'm pleased to have it again. Have it on my tablet. Maybe it will sync. Will take some time to learn again. Thanks GOTD and WPS.

I've found this software to be quite satisfactory, and was interested in seeing what has changed since the last time I used it. However, the program installer is failing to run. The GOTD wrapper runs, but then announces the install is complete, even though it has not started. I can't even see the installer process initialize, though I only have realtime process monitoring on this computer, so I can't be sure that it is not starting and immediately crashing. I'm using Win 7 64x.

Kingsoft product has a new name.
They call it WPS now.
You CANNOT use macros with this giveaway thing.
To me, that is a No-No.
Worse, it takes users some time to get used to a new software and learn the commands.
By the time you finally learn about 30% of how to use this software, the 1 year license has expired.
What is the point?
Pay a little bit and BUY the Paid software for [One-Time-Purchase] Microsoft Office Suite. (Not the 1 year subscription Time limited version).

secky, VERY IMPORTANT...I havent been able to install any GOTD for at least 2 months now and saw what "Secky " had written and have found the cure I think. this link should resolve our problem of not being able to install> I also recomend turning off the kaspersky etc, but some how I have got things up and running again, either google windows installer folder or go to the microst link here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/kb/2642495

While it is a good idea to close Kaspersky (or other AVs), you should also clean your browser's cache
and also use a cleaner like Glary Utilities (my favorite) or Crap Cleaner (or another clone of ...).

It also works for incomplete downloads and other fails.

Do these, reboot and (maybe) it will work for you (it sure did for me!)

Reply   |   Comment by Paul  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Paul, Or just delete the downloaded file and try again? This is a lot less time consuming. Browser cache isn't going to do anything here.

I use separate partitions for programs & data. The installer puts the entire installation in %APPDATA%\Local on my data drive. I see no way to separate these.

hmmm, sadly this is another one that has a user interface that although folks say its mso like, will not interface with a blind users screen reader, or at least with the one called jaws. this is all to prevalent among items offered here, but some of GOTD's software works with screen readers so I'll be back!

Downloaded the free version a couple of weeks ago. No watermarks now.

WPS is the only non-Microsoft software that can handle an extremely complex Excel program that I have (OO and LO can't cope with it).

Very pleased with it.

I prefer LibreOffice. A suite just like MS Office.. free. I can't speak highly enough about LibreOffice.

There's a somewhat short article on WPS Office here, giving the company's history etc.:
wikipedia[.]org/wiki/WPS_Office

There's a comparison of the free vs. pro versions here:
wps[.]com/office-compare

A couple few comments talk about the free version adding a watermark to printed materials -- it's not mentioned in the comparison, & the Wikipedia article says that was removed from the 2016 version:

"The personal basic version is free to use. A watermark was placed on all printed output after a 30-day trial; this was removed in version 2016."

With no offense intended to Anyone, many people have made personal observations over the years that Chinese companies excel at copying the designs of others, e.g. the the video conversion software that someone(s) always comments looks like every other brand. WPS Office looks similar to Microsoft Office, which *may* be its greatest selling point -- being familiar to folks with experience using MS Office, but at Much less cost. Other major alternatives to MS Office like the open source Libre, or Softmaker [Ashampoo] Office, or WordPerfect do things their way, though WordPerfect I think has an MS Office mode to make things easier for those used to the Microsoft software.

If you look at the available stats on who still uses XP, you'll see China prominently on that list. Chinese software *usually* has lower hardware requirements, a smaller footprint in Windows, & offers good to great backwards compatibility, not using stuff only found in the newest Windows versions. Following that trend, WPS Office is the lightest weight of the major office suite alternatives, though there is a fully portable version of Libre Office available at portableapps[.]com.

The 800 lb. gorilla in the room is of course the subscription based Microsoft Office 365... Microsoft offers a host of online or cloud based features & services that no one company has matched, & particularly if you want to use iOS or Android devices for this sort of thing, you *may* be better off looking for lowest priced deals on Office 365 key cards on Amazon & eBay.

Note: some comments refer to Open Office... development has slowed [a Lot], & there's talk of ending the project -- anyone using it is encouraged to look at Libre Office instead. Libre Office is a fork of Open Office, meaning a bunch of the folks working on Open Office decided to take the then current Open Office code base & go their own way for future development.

This is a wonderful opportunity to grab a great Office Suite. At least it is if this isn't the freebie version. The freebie version is crippled.

I tried this out maybe 18 months ago(?) when I was able to download it for free - before it went to the (IMO) horrid ribbon UI. I really was impressed, and I found it very compatible with MS Office. Without going into my reasons, I despise Open Office and Libre Office. But I fell in love with this office suite. When they (KingSoft) adopted the ribbon, I decided to go with purchasing SoftMaker Office, another treasure, and one that gives you a choice of UI.

Installed easily on a Win10 64 bit machine. Handles MS documents easily and seems to be a very nimble offering. Looks like the main program is needing 98 mb of RAM so not too bad and pulling very little CPU time. Shame it's a one year license but will give a great opportunity to see if it is something you would like to keep.

I have used the free version for some time now. More recent versions puts a watermark after a few prints.
Pros: Closest clone of MS office. Much closer than Libre and Open. It not only has the look and feel (most of the menus are very close) the formatting is closer to MS Office. This is obviously important for resumes and tightly formatted documents.
Cons: Not perfect. Not every thing is going to work. A previous comment was VBA and macros don't work which I cannot confirm. This is also a Chinese company if that makes a difference, although I have not noticed any ill effects.

This may be a disappointment to those of you who are wondering but unfortunately you cannot use macros with this version as to do so requires VBA which is only provided with the PRO version.

Off Subject: I am currently using a beta PRO version licensed until Jan and although I have MS Office 2013 I have found WPS spreadsheets perfectly compatible with Excel and can do anything I used to do with Excel. Consequently, I am strongly minded to buy the PRO version on expiry of my license.

I have no connection with Kingsoft but am just a pleasantly surprised customer

Suzen,

You have the remove (uninstall) the previous Version.

You then use a cleaner (Crap Cleaner or Glary Utilities)

Reboot and install the new version which should give you another year

OK, free for one year - and then, what? Will I have to pay to keep using it? Will it stop working or downgrade to a free version?

The Android version sure is. They seem to charge an annual fee for the Windows (desktop?) version though :(
