Had hoped WPS would come back on compatibility with Excel. On their website they mention VBA excel samples as being available but they seem to interpret VBA as "visual based analysis" not Visual Basic for Applications as VBA is normally known. This is very confusing to say the least!

I will continue to use soft maker FreeOffice 2018 \ TextMaker.exe, Free Office does not have an end date.

At the time of starting the installation of the program, it did not show me any configuration option. So the installation was automatic. This resulted in me not being able to choose to continue keeping my default files or with Office. And consequently, all my documents were changed to run with WPS Office including the icons.
I tried to put everything back to how it was before, but I could only change the default files to Office. However, the icons still remain.
The icons are attractive, but I would have liked to choose them myself.

I just wanted to report what happened to me in case the same thing happens to you.

Does a 6 month licence mean we can use the software forever, but only get updates & tech support for 6 months or does this time-out and stop working after 6 months? A 6 month licence can mean different things.

What happens when the 6 months subscription ends? Does it revert to the free version? I am looking for a good Microsoft Word substitution.

Yes, very nice office suite. I have used it in the past. However, I lost interest in it when it switched to a subscription model. Today's giveaway is good for six months. Website does not show any option for purchase of lifetime license. Only subscriptions available.

A few questions/comments:

1. After 6 months, can we assume it reverts to the standard edition (not cease to work altogether)?
2. I didn't see a way to install to anywhere but C:.
3. Why does it silently install a Windows service?
4. When you exit the program, it leaves several applications running in the background.
5. It changed my file associations without asking. That's a big no-no.
6. It uses a tabbed-browser interface. Any way to switch to the decades-standard menu bar interface?
7. Usually GotD applications specify a version, to distinguish from past/future giveaways (among other reasons). This doesn't, nor does it make it easy to see a history of changes.

Is WPS fully compatible with Excel VBA? At one time it had VBA but this was discontinued for some reason or other and that was when I stopped using it. I don't know of any spreadsheet program which is fully compatible with Excel VBA despite many saying they compliant - there are always issues.

Transitioned from Word and other programs to this about 2 years ago. Have purchased the premium in the past, though the free version is great.

For me, it's the best word-processor . . . not simply, the best for the money . . . the literal best . . . and as a writer, I use mine about 10 hours a day :-)

It's faster than any program I've used, has an extensive feature set, and has the most attractive UI . . . that's why I give it an A+ and never even think about other word-processors any more. I used to flip back and forth depending on what computer I was using......but now, it's 100% WPS.
