On the products home page listed in the information panel under the Buy and download buttons is the text:
"Compatible with Windows 10/8/7 and lower."
the "and lower." is in error. This version requires Windows 7 or higher NOT lower. While it will mistakenly instal in versions of windows lower than Windows 7 it has no chance of running correctly throwing many errors.
The current giveaway license will reactivate previous giveaway version 13.4 that will run under lower versions of windows than Windows 7 if you need to downgrade after trying this and finding it fails and the previous version loses its registration on installation of any version.

Why does just about everyone want to install a third-party anti-virus program on their PC laptop. Do they sometimes think Microsoft's Defender is not good enough? Then they are wrong. From Windows Vista on, I already used Microsoft's Defender, but it was called Microsoft Security Essentials. And, with Microsoft's Defender available from Windows 7 (or earlier), no one will have to disable their antivirus and Firewall to install a program from GOTD.

Right, [ John Johnson ], and I do not even use Microsoft's free anti-malware, instead I check things at VirusTotal before running them.
I've seen too many situations where especially phishing, but also other invasions of browser watchers and redirectors, and even ransomeware and more take over a computer, and Norton or Microsoft just sits there, blind.

FYI, I had to disable AVAST shields for the GOTD program to run. Installed fine after that.

No problem installing and registering. Older version was very good, can't wait to see how much faster and better this version is.

Will not install correctly. Can't get to menu to input the registration key. 'Specified file not found,' 'Access violation... etc.' Tried uninstall/reinstall multiple times. A real hassle trying to do what should be a simple install.

Easy Install and then opens and you put in the registration key which is included with this program. Installed on Win10 64x version. I like this kind of install where the registration key is included with the GAOTD download. I use Avast for my Anti-virus and I disabled it for this install. Thank you GAOTD for making this program available.

OK, problem solved. I had to temporarily disable AVG Anti-Virus. Once I did that, installed fine.

GavinR, Same symptoms, disabling AVG made no difference. Happens once in a while on GAOTD. Never gets fixed. Just have to accept you are excluded that day and try another time.

Downloaded and installed but the registration key doesn't work. Been doing this for years so know how it works. The registration key is so long it puts a break in it and places it in the registration box on two lines. Not sure if that's the problem and I don't see anyone else having this problem so not sure what the issue is.
Save | Cancel
Dennis W Comito, I just installed this giveaway. The registration box was able to accept the code on one line. (Menu, Register)

Gary, I sent a copy of the screen showing the registration before and after I entered the registration key. It doesn't fit on a single line which is the only way it's presented. The window can't be expanded so it will fit either so I'm not sure how yours worked. Like I said, I've been doing this for years and am very familiar with this process so not sure what the problem is.

Downloaded, Installed and registered with no problem on my Win10x64 machine using Edge as my browser.
As I travel in my work I have used a variety of different DVD rippers over the years to enable me to take along my movies/TV series etc. for those long nights away from home. I'm ripping a copy as we speak in fact. Hopefully it will be finished before I hit "enter" on this review.
First impressions : Very good first impressions actually. The UI is clear and understandable which is not always the case with this type of software. Multiple formats available to rip to also. A VERY good sign to me is the availability to rip to a TS file as that's my favorite format. It supports CUDA which is another big plus though to be fair that is pretty standard now but lacking in some I've tried. Oh, almost forgot I REALLY like that the registration Code is included in the Readme file. A huge plus for me. Annnnnnnd, its finished. Very fast rip :D Quality is very good as is the sound. Impressive.
Final thoughts. I am VERY happy with this software. Granted the DVD I ripped is older and I will be trying a newer movie at some point today. If this deals with that as well as it dealt with this one I will SERIOUSLY consider buying this. Very impressed I must say. If I find any downsides I will add a comment to this and let you know but honestly, from what I've seen so far I do not expect any downsides. Do yourself a favor and get this while you can as its outstanding. Kudos to the Wondersoft people for such a easy to use, FAST ripper.
As an aside, I cannot understand how so many people seem to be having problems with this sites downloads as I have never had any problems.
Thank you GAOTD and Wondersoft for such a great offer today.

I'm another unhappy camper who hasn't been able to download anything from GOTD in a while. Wish someone could help with that.

Naomi, the problem could be with your browser. I like BRAVE, it has better privacy than say Firefox or Chrome. Because it has less tracking issues makes it run a little faster. Tor is another fine browser. Both are simple to install. Good Luck!

Naomi, I haven't downloaded yet but read it's a zip file. Chrome will block it. You must select KEEP from the download window; they confirm you want the keep option. Hope this helps.

Yet again ANOTHER offering from GiveawayoftheDay that will NOT install.
All I'm seeing onscreen is an error dialog that states:
"Giveaway of the Day
Fatal error: key is invalid."
This is NOT the first time I've received this message. In fact, it's dozens of times I've received it.
Has ANYONE got any idea of what I need to do to resolve this, please?

Peter Blaise,
The quoted error is from the exe/gcd wrapper. It occours when there is some corruption of the https connection to giveawayoftheday.com giveaway validation/key server.
Can be caused by many potential faults in no particular order: malware, VPN's, firewalls, anti-malware software, bad WiFi conections due to interference from other stations or devices on incompatible adjacent channels etc.

So, [ TK ], you've seen the "... Giveaway of the Day Fatal error: key is invalid ..." error before, eh?
Do you have any idea of what [ Mick ] and others need to do to resolve this?
Thanks.

Peter Blaise, Yes BUT it is impractical to try and provide comprehensive computer support via a heavily and inconsitently censored comments page. I listed several possible causes that could create the same error. That is as much as I am likely able to get away with here. Solutions for all possible causes on various operating system, hardware, driver versions, software climate as well as wifi or other network infrastructure and exostructure are well beyond the scope of any comments section and could take an entire ever growing website of articles to deal with. I learnt the knowledge I have learnt... If I can do it... no reason others cannot if they want to make sufficient effort.

Thanks, [ TK ] ... still it would be nice for GOTD themselves to provide a workaround reference for known issues, perhaps collected from our shared troubleshooting here.
Some vendors chose not to use the GOTD setup.exe wrapper, and some vendors just link to direct downloads from their own website to avoid their files getting outside their control and possibly becoming infected before delivery.
Good luck, [ Mick ] - try another computer, and maybe it's a sign that it's time to reinstall Windows, a seasonal requirement.

Peter Blaise, there are different reasons to use the exe/gcd wrapper, the formal one is so vendors can provide a custom pre-activated with no dependancy upon vendors servers or anything and not have the special build installer freely distributable beyond the giveaway period. The package is encrypted and has overly sensitive tamper resistantce which requires some anti-malware software to be disabled to permit installation. That is wholey legitimate.
Others use it to pretend they have a special installer that needs protecting to divert use of the giveaway license on the normal installer. Then there are others that choose to do their own online activation and control the activation time slot themselves, they do not normally also use the exe/gcd wrapper. And there are others that produce special installer that is named in a specific way for the giveaway and not in the specific way for normal downloads of the demo from their site. And that has a date check and if the date is valid for the giveaway they will pre-activate the product to "Registered User" and other vendors are just seeking testers for their work in progress and normally do not have a robust licensing system as part of their priorities. with the main legit reason there can be no secure workaround since only by the vendor releasing the pre-activated installer there is no workaround without an imense amount of data on the user with problem configuration which no end user normally supplies in the first instance. And without that information no investigation into what is the cause of the problem and what could be a the potential solution... without multiple question and answer comments going back and forth which cannot happen in a a comment section such as this where comments can just vanish never to be seen again for no apparent reason. It could be the use of flakey VPN's or 3G/4G dongles or routers... could be Wifi interference trouble before even getting to the individual computer configuration! My main advice if the exe/gcd wrapper is preventing you or anyone from participating in a giveaway due to some unresolvable technical problem with the wrapper first try and find the same version installer on the vendors site... some offer old versions of their products and also maintain an archive of their older installers on their site but still insist the giveaways installer is exe/gcd wrapped... other options are to use archive.org to retrieve the older versions installer to try with the supplied key... It may also be possible to get the wrappered program to install into a virtual machine but not on the host machine... one can hack a fresh working install on the host machine from the virtual machines copy of the installed files!

My computer isn't ancient. So, it doesn't have a CD player. But the description doesn't say that a CD player is required. How can a program rip from DVDs if the DVDs can't be inserted?
Save | Cancel
Sarah, It would require a DVD drive, not a CD drive, and they probably don't bother mentioning that you need one for a DVD ripper for the same reason that a printer software package doesn't mention you need a printer.
You can still install the software and run it, it just can't really do anything without the accessory mentioned in it's name.
I apologize if it sounds a bit harsh.

Sarah, my computer is also not ancient and it has a built in DVD-writer, like all the PCs I had before, for special issues I also own an external BluRay writer. And that´s the hint for you, you can buy yourself an external USB-DVD-writer for only a few bucks and then you only need a DVD that´s worth ripping and you can try out this sort of program. In my eperience 99% of my many original DVDs are not worth ripping...
Save | Cancel
Sarah, I've had to buy an external DVD player/ripper. I was told by some city boy at Best Buy that DVD players weren't needed on computer anymore because people stream movies now. He's not one of the 19 million people in the USA that can't get internet.

Thanks in advance

Hi Tom Johansen,
This is Jenny from WonderFox, thank you so much for your support.
Our software supports you to flexibly choose the subtitles you want. If you need subtitles, tick the corresponding language. If you don't need any subtitles, do not check any subtitles.
Any questions please feel free to send an email to support@videoconverterfactory.com, your message are warmly welcomed.
Best,
Jenny

Hi [ Jenny ], is there a way to make a file where AFTER ripping, the file can be played and THEN subtitles can be toggled ON and OFF during playback in various video playback programs?
Otherwise, I think you are saying "turn subtitles ON during ripping, and then they will be written on-screen in the resulting file and can never be turned off during playback because they are written into the on-screen video".
So, is there any way to manage subtitles for toggling on and off during playback of the ripped file?
Thanks.
.

Peter Blaise, Only with ripping to 1:1 DVD folder and playing the DVD folder contents in the other players.
ripping to other video container formats? Not with this or any other FFMPEG only based program, DVD subtitle streams are a propietary graphics technology while video file subtitle facilities are primarily a text stream or text file based technology and without comprehensive OCR and timing control it is not possible.
Save | Cancel
Aww, that's too bad, [ TK ], because I have some single, playable video files that have subtitles toggleable, I must find them and inspect them to reverse-figure them out.
And of course, it would be nice to pull out subtitles as even a separate sidecar file, there's gotta be software for that, folks can't really be hand-typing and hand-syncing all the subtitles that I see available for download, can they?
Do you or anyone on this thread have a link to a way to make either of those subtitles directly from the disk that we are ripping?
Apparently not WonderFox.
Thanks.
