What is meant by "HTML5 conversion?" As I understand it, HTML5 coding has no trouble displaying most video formats. What kind of conversion is being done? The User Guide is clear about how to do the conversion process, but not about what the output is or why anyone would want this?

Brian Wilson, The programme converts OTHER types of video formats . e.g . avi , mp4 IN to HTML5 format. As the title says it is a "Video to HTML5 Converter 4.0.0"

It appears to be "just" a video converter where you can convert and adjust size and add tags, if desired. It does not generate HTML code or anything but the converted file.

Brian Wilson, I passed on this one for the same reasons you gave. I suspect, but have no interest in confirming, that it generates mp4 video with the accompanying code to embed it in a webpage.
Useful for those with no coding skills, I guess.
But I agree that there is no such thing as HTML5 Format for video. Calling it that only supports the idea that they are marketing exclusively to the minimally skilled.

Brian Wilson, It means it uses FFMPEG libraries to convert the provided videos to a selection of pre-set formats for selected HTML5 "compatible" browsers... different HTML5 browsers support certain subsets of video formats. The settings for video quality / resultant bitrate is remarkable crude with only 3 settings. It also produces a simple HTML5'sh compatible player .html file to play the videos generated.

Brian Wilson,
There was a time when video found on webpages was likely in the Adobe Flash format, however, there were several issues with this method of getting videos displayed because the same technology could be used to embed dangerous code. Therefore, as Flash faded from the popularity spot, browser developers started to support mp4 format of video that could be used to replace the Flash video (which needed an embedded flash player). This more security conscious method of publishing video became part of the developing HTML version 5 standard.
The surrounding code for Flash and the surrounding code for mp4 video was different. Long time "techie" web developers knew what to replace and with what, but for many website maintainers that had little if any experience messing around with the code parts (wrote text content mostly), programs such as Thundersoft Video to HTML5 came along to do the conversion and produce the code that was needed to be placed in the web page. Then it was only a matter of copy and paste.
The "Flip-page" programs also offered users a choice to produce the necessary HTML 5 code for the same reason. For both of these types of programs, they often do not produce valid HTML code, or they produce a mixture of standards that deviate from the specified DOCTYPE. Browsers will attempt to process any type of code it encounters, regardless of HTML standard; otherwise, almost every page that does not pass validation might not be displayed; users would switch to a browser that does display the page regardless of it having a mixture of standards. Since I like to produce code that will validate, I write my own code.
These days, I believe all of the browsers have fully dropped support for Flash.
So basically, the program does video format conversions AND can produce code for a webpage. If you need it for making the conversion only, then this program may give you a lot in return. You don't have to use the parts that go into web pages.
I hope that helps.
