ThunderSoft DRM Removal does NOT allow us to play Apple-DRM-protected media that we cannot play.
Apple even refuses to play video at all on my computer, go figure - that's a significant reason to want to convert Apple media so as to be able to play it anywhere, wouldn't that be nice.
- ThunderSoft DRM Removal launches iTunes,
- iTunes requires a signed-in Apple license for any specific media,
- then, ThunderSoft DRM Removal presumably has iTunes plays the media,
- while ThunderSoft DRM Removal re-records the media to a new copy without DRM.
I have hundreds if not thousands of files from my family's backups,
I have customers with collections from their families,
and there are hundreds of thousands of people dying of CoViD-19,
and their media collections are now being effectively buried with them.
Apparently we can never actually buy anything from Apple, we only rent it, Apple own it always and ultimately.
Let me re-write ThunderSoft DRM Removal's self-promotion:
"... ThunderSoft DRM Removal takes media that you can play in iTunes, and makes drm-free copies ..."
... if you can't play something in iTunes, then ThunderSoft DRM Removal can do NOTHING.

Installed on Windows 10. It does work, but you need to make sure to download iTunes from Apple. iTunes from the Microsoft store will give you some errors converting songs.
Only issue I have is that if you convert them to flac, there is no media tag for the songs.

Does this software work independent from iTunes? Or is iTunes a must have installed in order for DRM Removal to work? I do not see this answered in the FAQ on with website anywhere.

Yes and No.
You can select "iTunes Media" or "Import Files." The Import Files will open a dialog where you can select *.m4? (m4a, m4b, etc), so, no iTunes is necessary if you wish to work with those types of files.
You can click on the other option (iTunes Media). If iTunes is not installed, you will get the message "Can't find iTunes Media Library." So, to work with iTunes files, it expects them to be in the iTunes Media Library.
I don't have either type so I cannot go beyond those opening steps.
