I read the comments and they fall roughly into these categories:

1) How limited/lousy/lame is this LE.
2) What codecs/containers it cannot handle.
3) How big the 2nd download after 1st download is.

But so far none has commented on how well the main functions perform in actual use.
i.e.
1) creating videos from multiple sources simultaneously up to 4 cameras.
2) generate 3D animated slideshow videos with their videos and photos.
3) video editing including cut, trim, mix and edit subtitles.

In particular, creating videos from multiple sources simultaneously up to 4 cameras is highlighted and touted as the main feature. But how many users ( is it 0.00000000000000000000000000001%? ) actually capture video from 4 sources simultaneously on a regular basis? The software developer is catering to a very niche market.

The basic video editing feature is dismissively described almost as a side note. But I guess that most users who downloaded this software would be using it for that.
Clearly the software developer company itself feels that this is not the main draw of the software. If it is video editing you need, better look elsewhere.

The ultimate version is very good but any version less than this would be useful for very basic editing.
The latest version is 13 and has been getting good reports.
I think they created two reduced features versions for those that can't afford to buy the full version.

I wouldn't cry too much about the formats not being used in this NLE. Yes you might need your show rendered in MPEG 2 for public access TV..

BUT...

if you hung out here you probably already picked up a converter.
You also have windows moviemaker.

You should know that back in the day, the FORMAT was always a problem with early NLE's. Even Linux CineLerra want's .mov files fed to it IIRC. So converting say to .avi before stacking your timeline wasn't unheard of. This way when you edit your timeline has all uncompressed .avi on it, you then render to the "roughly" 13 GB avi file, and then convert to your exit format MPEG 2/DVD, or whatever .flv/mp4 for youtube. (it was called a workflow)

I've tried this NLE, and it's not my favorite. It's not a deal killer, but I simply love my Sony Vegas Pro, and recently I picked up Hitfilm Pro, for Photos into a video I use Imaginate (for those ken burn effects with photos.) I also got to check out Magix's EDIT PRO at a fellow producer's house, I liked what I saw, with the familiar Magix feel to it, but I Haven't installed / bought it myself yet. I also have pinnacle, because I have their capture card and break out box.

While they aren't pinnacle, this company has been around for a few years now so their NLE is getting better with each new version.

One thing which maybe a deal killer for some is the SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS while
todays giveaway says this is.
Windows XP SP3 x32 (Service Pack 3 is required)/ Vista/ 7/ 8

"Sorry XP 64 bit edition"

(still run one of these XP 64 bit edition monsters- a picky little OS in 2015! )

the actual software you would buy veersion 13 has
Microsoft Windows 8/8.1, 7, Vista (SP2)

whoopsie there goes XP 32 bit as well. That WOULD be a problem for me.

Personally, I dislike windows 7 onwards. From the annoying startbutton, themes/paid windowblind subscription, to the re-writing of the AUDIO MIXER API's. Yes even the mixer in the systray is a pain to my rear end.
e.g. ClocksterXP doesnt run in 7 (even though I can compile it on 7) -- the software install leaves you with a volume control slider in the tray.
I digress getting off topic about the funk in the operating system itself.

If you don't got an NLE, and your on a later than XP windows, try PowerDirector. Ultimately you will probably decide you love one main NLE, so it doesn't hurt to try them all.

Looks like this offer today will take your Newblue, and Adorage plugins. I would assume there are special "cyberlink targeted" 3rd party versions that you have to buy.

Plugins are another consideration when considering a NLE that runs on a different operating system. OR even with multiple NLE's and versions of the same plugin. Do you really want to know how much $$$ I got tied up in plugins? Hey does ANYBODY know how much I spent on plugins?! I bought em and even I lost track now.

anyway, regardless there are some things to consider going down this path. I don't see HeroGlyph among the plugins, but there is Newblue's Titler Pro and there are other plugins out there I love as well.

Transitions and effects are important too. Especially if you BOUGHT some already! Will they work in other NLE's. Probably not. Usually not.

A truly terrible company, offering endless crippled versions of their products so you must 'upgrade' for more money if you actually want to do anything, and this giveaway is no exception.

I bought a Blu-Ray player of their software which, when installed, didn't actually support playback of Blu-Ray disks without then having to buy an 'upgrade'.

Do yourself a favor and don't bother.

Wow, a 10% discount? And a >free< dumbed-down limited edition of a program? And all the free "buy the full version" in-program advertising and spam that goes with it? How can Cyberlink afford to be so generous?

Cyberlink is a decent company with generally decent software. But I don't want to drive them into bankruptcy, so I'll have to pass on this one. I appreciate your efforts, though, GOATD!

Currently the downloader is showing that the download will be complete in...163 hours :-/ Why on earth the file size is so big I'll never fathom. Proshow producer 6.o is a touch over 51 megabyte, if I could be convinced that this program is significantly better than Producer I might be tempted to stick it out and see if the download speed picks up. I have checked my download speed etc etc and all is as it should be. I was 'hoping' I'd find something worth trying and then upgrading to the paid version...I think I'll just save myself the money and time and not bother.

Sorry, but this is nearly useless. It is old, stripped WAY down, and has VERY limited format support. You could probably find a more full-featured app to edit video on your cell phone's APP store for a few dollars (seriously). Thumbs way, way down.

If life gives you lemons make lemonade. This LE is just that as a video editor, but is great as a slide show maker. The given auto slide show maker is also very limited, but make your masterpiece by using the video options. Using Windows 10x64 Build 9926 which is much faster than Windows 8.1x64 in video and games. Thanks GOTD.

As usual, many people are confusing codecs and containers. AVCHD, AVI, FLV, MP4 and MKV are containers, not codecs. They pack video and audio, generally using lossy compression. Read this simple but very understandable guide (direct link to PDF file), it will help you grab the basics ---video is very complicated whilst audio is much simpler.

Best tools to pack codecs into containers: ffmpeg (or the controversial libav library), handbrake, avidemux, ...

About this GOTD.
From supported file formats in CyberLink PowerDirector 12, I expurged limitations and options (likely not available):
Import from: 3GPP2, AVI, DAT, DV-AVI, MOV, MOV H.264, MP4, MPEG-4 AVC (H.264), WMV, WMV-HD ---not sure about H.264 though, probably not available
Export to: AVI, Windows Media Video (WMV) ---Microsoft's formats! lol
They do not say a thing about codecs.

Man, that's poor!

Regarding v13 (460 MB download), you might want to read this and that, and then make assumptions about this v12 LE version (comparison table versions 11, 12, 13).

Reply   |   Comment by papin  –  9 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+24)

AVCHD isn't a container but a version of H.264 (the rest you mentioned are containers).

Reply   |   Comment by _gl  –  9 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Although it allows for improvements over video codecs, AVCHD is not a codec. More precisely, AVCHD is a file format. As such, it is a container, organized in folders and files, like a standard DVD. But AVCHD is not specific to a media (optical disc). You can store AVCHD on BluRay, SD card, HDD. Saying AVCHD is a codec would be saying that a DVD, a VCD or a CD audio are codecs.

See the official AVCHD web site for the specification. The 2nd paragraph of this blog almost says it all.

I downloaded (once) and installed (with the same password & files) in a physical dual system (Win 8.1 & Win 10 TP Build 9926) 8Gb Ram & each OS has it's own partition ((BUT)) I have a shared drive (1TB) & I installed both times to the same sub-folder (to save space) I installed under both systems 1- To see if it would function in both environments, so far looks good - I have 3 cameras & it handled the files - but I can't seem to find output for MP4 (in either 8.1 or 10) and 2- to see the changes & how each differed in saving results. Win 10 was actually faster in some ways to my Win 8.1 partition, but that could be due to many different other factors (more programs, more codecs, etc.) Well thank you GAOTD and Cyberlink. Have a nice weekend! And I'll keep plugging - (would've rather had a look at 13 rather then a backward look at 12, oh, well HAGD)

Now, I do like Cyberlink's products especially limited Giveaway's like this but the WMV format is really not that bad and still supported as an upload format if you plan to share to websites like Youtube, etc. I know that the lack of features such as MPEG and AVC and even Blu Ray is a deal breaker but licensing matters prevent them from including these formats. Now you may compare this product to another that was previously given away here where it does include these formats, but those formats are just alternative codecs and not the real thing. They may get the job done but may cause compatibility issues elsewhere.

And was very sad about .... ;-)

but it has many good and useful for doing nice video features. As to me, I like it!

Thanks for the nice giveaway to dear GODT and authors!

Well, OK!
This version of software Cyberlink is more easy upload up to the comp, is more quickly to open for work as its more later versions, which I have tested before! There was not "easy editor" in the old version too. But "Easy editor" does not work to test, it neeeds to upgrade!
Next, the pictures slideshower has only 3 templates for work and have no setting to make any changes into.
I know some free sliders for pics, who can make the same work for free.
So, easy editor and slider are not interesting.
Go on, I do not know what` s a problem, but there is a problem with videodriver when this program is opened....
Win 7 \32
It all time it is opened a window about problem with video driver. I can not understand, is it my inside comp problem or it is a new version makes any problem with drivers? It needs time to look into sytem and to know about... I`ll do now it after visitting GODT.
But in general, no any new in this version. Almost everything old as in the 11 LE and my old CD version Cyberlink which was given with ex-buying my notebook. Though, I can say honestly, that the notebooks` s CD version of this Cyber has more functions and output great video quality.
But in any case, my heartly thanks to dear GODT and authors for present!
Hope, I can fix problem with videodriver and shall have a good program for my work.

2 whom it is interesting: Interesting fact! on my second comp - notebook, it has a XP Windows system, this program has uploaded more quicker that on my new table comp... only 12 minutes, but in table comp 28 mins.
No any problem with any driver. Everything works greatly and clear!
So may it is better to take away another version from first comp and use notebook` s.
But as it sems to me, the developers only to write into a some new features under the same old LE11 version, but the program is the same.
Ok, must go to fix system from driver` s problem!

Best wishes to everybodies with the ex-Valentine ` s Day from my dearest UKRAINE!
Especial heartly greetings to my love - GODT team!
I really LOVE them very much all time when I am at GODT!

I tend to use (free) VirtualDub for my video editing needs. Since it won't support MPEG this doesn't seem to offer much more. And trying to use it for MPEG only brings up upgrade ads. With later versions of this program out it only appears this giveaway if being offered to sell they current version.

Since this is an LE (Limited Edition) version of the software, I would expect it would not have all the features of a full edition. That said, I'd like to see some reviews of the product and what it can do. Does it work as advertised on GOTD? Are there significant issues with the installation? Are there any issues with hardware limitations or OS limitations?

I have an application in mind where being able to record from multiple sources at the same time would be an advantage. I'd like to know if this product does what it says.

You have to download BEFORE you get to the actual download, then the painful wait begins. If you have a highspeed internet – go for it. If you live in a third world jungle – like me – give it a miss.

This looked like an excellent GOTD until I saw the restrictions and then checked their website. Not only is it an old version of the software (version 13 on the website) but it is not usable for anyone who does any serious video editing due to the lack of handling of any standard formats. The full-featured CyberLink Power Director ( ultra version ) is really impressive and effective.
But I won't be ready to try this Limited functional Version or as many said a crippled version last time .

Alongwith Windows Movie Maker some other freeware Video Editing Apps I tried are

*VSDC Free Video Editor

*Machete Video Editor Lite - this version only supports AVI and WMV files and it can't edit the audio stream.

* VirtualDub Portable

*Breeze Light Edition

and also
as per Giovanni's as usual nice recommendation I tried Avidemux and Shotcut and found them as very effective program.

Thanks

Have been using Avidemux for many, many years, if you don't need timelines but just want to improve the video visually it is a cinch to use once you get used to it.
A download link is as follows:-
http://sourceforge.net/projects/avidemux/

It is a somewhat geeky interface but help is at hand at the following link:-
http://en.flossmanuals.net/_booki/avidemux/avidemux.pdf

99% of the video editing that I do can be done with this program it is very versatile and very effective.
Once you change the selection from Copy to say X264 you can then use one of the many filters which offer a preview.

Downloaded the latest version at the above link which seems to have removed many of the bugs that existed.

If you're really into heavy editing VSDC Free Video Editor maybe better now help is available, previously it wasn't and it was a beast in my opinion as I have so little experience in timelines etc.

Nice giveaway.

Cyberlink will download the 614 MB installer from their web sever and comes as 64bit distribution. so you can also re-install PowerDirector again or tomorrow after the giveaway download time is over. Upon registration you can opt out receiving Cyberlink newsletters. The registration number will be send to your email with optional downloader from Cyberlink.

It's a bread & butter video editor with upgrade options for more video formats if you need them. Powerdirector could be a good choice to upload your streams to youtube, vimeo and so on.

I'm pleased with this generous giveaway and say Thank You; GOTD and Cyberlink.

Some things you should know. It requires an email, after installation it then has to download 614.56mb from the program. It's an old version that is not available on their site. It's now Power Director 13. That's no secret either; They try to get you to upgrade to it before you even finish installing. What's the difference? I'm not sure because there is Power Director 13 Ultimate, Power Director 13 Ultra and Power Director 13 Deluxe, also Power Director 13 Suite.

It looks like it's probably a powerful editor but I don't know everything it does yet since Power Director 12 LE isn't a retail product. Reading review of version 11 and some of the versions of 12. It does sound like a really good program. I happy to get it. | We need more info on the product besides what it won't support and how it will help me edit something I have filmed with 4 different cameras for some reason.

Here is a video from their site that kind of tells what all Power Director 13 does:

Installed and registered without problems on a win 8.1.3 Pro 64 bit system. A clean install.

We had the previous version CyberLink PowerDirector 11 LE on September 13, 2014. Here are the old reviews:
http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/cyberlink-powerdirector-11/

A well known Taiwanese company with address, phone, names&pictures of the executive team:
http://www.cyberlink.com/stat/company/enu/executive-team.jsp

The installer loads a 614 MB file from the internet. This gives me some time to say something about the "clean install".
I monitor the installation process with several tools:
1) For changes in the file system : Nirsoft Folderchangesview
2) Monitoring the changes in the registry: Regshot 1.9 (in my eyes the best tool)
3) Control of the installation packet Havysoft Innoextractor. Works only on Inno Setups. The GOTD installer isn't of course, but many of the original installers
4) Last but not least the PeStudio - usefull to know more about the .exe
For some good reasons I do not use the monitoring of some "complete deinstaller" programs.

Of course this is a crippled version of the last Power Director - the latest version 13 is on sale for $59,99. Consider this GiveAway as a teaser - not more, not less.
"GOTD users can get a 10% discount for all products till February 28. Use the coupon Code: GOTD." This is valid on the special offer price:

...
...
Finally downloaded.

I had installed the previews version 11. I replaced it with the today's version. You won't have much fun with a slow computer with not much memory.
If you want to cut your self made video from your phone, this tool is a little bit overpowered - but nice to have.

No, no reboot.

Thank you GAOTD and Cyberlink. Have a nice weekend!

"I do not use the monitoring of some “complete deinstaller” programs"

Would you mind to say why?

Thank you Karl.

@ Charbon - I'll try to be short.
The deinstallation programs do not monitor. They make a pre-installation & a post-installation snapshot and compare the difference. You have only little information, what really happens. Nirsoft produces a real time log of all file activities on a selected drive, e.g. also a failed copy or rename due to access restrictions. Regshot does a comparison of two selected snapshots - but with a detailed .html output. In this aspect the "complete-deisntallation" programs cannot compete. HTH

Greetings from Germany
Karl

Sorry, but with no support for AVCHD (mp4) format, this is not useable with so many modern cameras. The software is good, but no-one is going to convert everything every time just to be able to use this software. Cyberlink, I have already bought your MediaSuite 10, so I have no conflict of interests when I say this software is just not practical without support for mp4.

"Does not support Blu-ray, 3D, AVCHD, MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MKV, FLV & 4K."
This is a joke. MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MKV and FLV is a common formats, these support in any free editors too. Thumbs down from me.

I think the same thing This must be a joke, not support AVCH, MPG2.... I like the program but it are very bad that not are useable to this very important formats... And I will not buy it to get able to test the uninclude formats...

a well define video developer tool. PCMag - Tom's guide - Cnet - all names you can trust endorses this. A keeper for me. Thanks GAOTD

Maybe you did not read the fine print:
this is a limited edition 'LE' and does not have all the features of the full edition.Cnet and other sites you mention only endorse the full version of this software;not the feature crippled one being given away here.
What is annoying is the fact that you have to download 600MB plus extra just to use this feature crippled version;not good for people with slow speed internet and those with a limited data connection.

I think this was offered before as GOTD, but if it "Does not support" major current codecs like AVCHD, MPEG-2, MKV for HD why should we bother?

Last version was 11LE, and you are right: without all popular exportformats this product is useless, just like the version 11LE that i removed of my computer after i came to the same conclusion.

I do not know where you got that information from. This link say it works with a multitude of CDECs.

Also read more on honest reviews.

This is not the most up to date version of the editing software but it is worth downloading.

Hey I will take it. I have no job long term disabled through chronic pain, I can't afford to be fussy. When the jobs complete I will convert it to the latest codex. I see no probs there. Its not as if I am producing Hollywood style videos.

Lucky Luke
Also uninstalled it very rapidly, everything I tried to do it informed me it was not available in this version.
That was after a 400 MB download and all the palaver of getting it registered, not going to waste my time with a 600 MB plus download.

Ian, before you irritably say "I do not know where you got that information from", realize that the links you posted are for Power Director 12 ULTIMATE, not the crippled LE version.

@Ian
Maybe you missed that the giveaway is PowerDirector 12 LE (Limited Edition = normal version minus some functions, in this case the various CODECs support) and you are referring to descriptions and reviews of the ULTIMATE version (= normal version + extra features).

Reply   |   Comment by Guess Who  –  9 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+25)

It is indeed too crippled to be of any great use beyond the ability for newbies to be introduced to what a decent video editor can offer, which for the full version is quite a lot.

So this offering is less of a giveaway and more of a marketing ploy.

"Also read more on honest reviews." Really? Are you are saying that the reviews here are NOT honest??

You have a right to your opinion and you may LOVE this software, but you have no right to attack those who post their HONEST OPINIONS
by implying that their reviews are not honest.

Perhaps I could say to you - "Why don't you post an HONEST review instead of one that the company would like you to post".

Or, all you AVCHD fan boys can stop crying and download AVCHDCoder (freeware) and stop bashing a program that does a good job at what it's designed to do. You can find it here http://tools.twanwintjes.nl/index.php?page=avchdcoder

I paid for the cyberlink-powerdirector-xx-ultimate A few years ago paid about $200 at that was on with tech support for about a month of calls their reg. codes did not work they had me coping the cds to the hard drive then removing some files and changing others. after getting it working you could only put two titles on the opening page for home made movies (who makes 2hour + home movies. Uninstalled but could not get a refund. I'm still getting spam 1-2 times a week from them, I have clicked the link to stop they spam but no good.
