For those getting 502 Bad Gateway page when dl'ing the giveaway, try another browser. I been using Firefox with no problen till today's giveaway, and all of a sudden the 502 error. I then tried IE8, and it downloaded no problem. I also tried posting this message using FF, and got the 502 erroe, so I'll try with IE now.

For those who are getting a "502 Bad Gateway" error, try downloading the Giveaway from another browser. Today's Giveaway keeps giving me the error message when I use Firefox to download (which I have been using with no problem). I then tried IE, and it downloaded. I then tried again with FF, still the error page.

I just upgraded firefox and I got the bad gateway message also. Usually, I right click and use Download with DAP (download accelerator) but this time it couldn't resolve the file. I used Opera and when I clicked on the link, DAP started up and is downloading now. So what's up with this gateway message?

Little known factoid.
Audacity will rip Audio from video files and export them just like this will. The only trick is that you have to open Audacity first and THEN open a video file from Audacities menu. If you try to open a Video file using Audacity from the right click menu (or "open With")it will usually crash Audacity.
Old school freeware wins again.

I just have a question about this program.
I understand very well what the program actually does, but I'm curious as to what people do with audio from videos? What do you guys use the audio files for? I know it can be used to fix audio files which may be corrupt within a video but other than that, I don't know what it would be used for.
I'm just curious since many of you use it, or programs that are similar.
Thanks for any input!

Downloaded & installed it and tried it on a .mpg file that I wanted to have an mp3 version of, which SUPER and VLC haven't been able to convert. It works just fine and it's easy to use, a keeper for me.

Having awards is fine, but if you don't link to the award page, they lack creditability. Also, specify WHICH program received the award.
Users want "proof" that you received the award, and they want to know which program the award is for.

I took a look at Power Audio Extractor & was surprised -- it's very fast & looks like it should be pretty useful working with video files for trans-coding the audio.
1st, in case I sound overly optimistic, the downsides...
The program window doesn't display well if you've got Windows set to a larger font size. 2nd, there are very few output options, & what's there is not customizable. 3rd, while it'll happily accept a VOB file from a DVD, if there is more than 1 audio track present, it grabs the 1st one -- no choice. 4th, at least in the case of AC3 audio, which I used for my quick testing, Power Audio Extractor can add its own filtering, including setting levels [volume].
The pros... It's very fast, & while it's an audio format converter, it'll accept video files, which sometimes can save you the step of de-muxing [i.e. separating the audio & video parts]... I say "sometimes" because you often have to de-mux them anyway. Power Audio Extractor is also extremely simple & easy to use -- with a wizard sort of interface, there's none of the potential confusion found in many more powerful conversion apps.

You can use format factory and it's free plus you will get updates when they update it.

Freeware alternative: XMedia Recode. Stable, easy to use, reliable. I've experimented with numerous programs of this type, and I've never found anything better.

Installed fine on Windows 7. It performs as expected, and quickly. I would like the option to specify which portion of the video file I want converted into an audio file.

Quick note...
When I got the Gateway error, I was using the most recent Firefox edition. I switched to Google Chrome and Voila! Downloaded fine.

Hi,
Downloaded and installed fine, Win XP Pro sp3.
Seems to do the job well enough but at $30 it seems expensive for a one function program. There are many programs avlable for free which will do this and more, Format Factory for example.
I read with interest Mikes post #2
I too tried to find "Power Audio Extractor" on a few of the 'award' sites. This screen shot shows the search result on freewarefiles.com, this is the site which apparently hailed this as 'Editor's pick' with a really impressive logo.. Here's the screen shot!
http://my.jetscreenshot.com/demo/20100101-ds8s-128kb
Two thirds down the image it states 'Search yielded zero results'.
On one of the site's which PowerSE claims to have 5 stars actually has the product rated at 5/5. Very impressive, until one notices that only three people have actually rated it, all funnily enough at maximum rating yet somehow in their eagerness they forgot to write a quick review. Hardly reason to claim 'The best thing since sliced bread'.
Summary.
Plus..
Does what it says it will do.
Minus..
Well overpriced. 'Format Factory' and 'Super' from erightsoft are both free and do so much more.
The self glorifying awards webpage needs a little more thought put into it, ie, don't make false claims, it puts people right off.
It does what it says but it's not for me.
Happy New Year, Andy

Just a run of the mill audio recorder that does nothing more than so many others. Just think even though it is free it can't be updated so in a very short time it will be out of date. Progably is already.
Many free and pay for that are worth your time to look at.

As usual with any software offering, read through all the awards a product has won. That way, you can be sure you're installing a reliable product from an honest and respectable source.
This developer's web page features many, many awards for its Power Sound Editor product range.
The awards from highly reputable sites such as MajorGeeks and Nonags are pretty impressive.
Even though I can't find them.
But they must be true. Surely.

Great software. Installed with Windows 7 64bit without a problem.
Not a whole bunch of bells and whistles, but it does the job quickly and accurately. The GUI is a little strange. (it appears to be off center on my screen, or maybe I had too much Eggnog.)
It is a great addition to the multimedia tool kit.
Thanks GAOTD and Happy New Year to all !
