One tip to everyone. If for some reason you cannot download a video, please update the download engine from the Main Manu under "Tools/Update Download Engine".

Bund,

If you are getting a blank page when looking for a YouTube video in File->New->YouTube. This is an issue we are working on. Please see comment #30 for a work-around.

If you have passed this step and the video does not download, we need to wait for an updated version of the download engine (normally just a few day at most).

I am wondering whether this program was tested. I get error messages telling me that the program looks for the file MyFilmKiosk.mfk2 and for downloaded files in my Documents folder. The former is located not in Documents but in a Data folder.

Is this the repaired version that fixes the YouTube download issue, or is this just for the people who had a problem installing it during the giveaway time frame?

Partly worked for me. Followed the steps mentioned in comment#30 and was able to download few youtube videos, in fact within seconds. The downloads are not the best resolution though. They are poorer quality as compared to downloading sites (free) like savefrom.net. But this works very quickly, does not whine and did the job. Something is better than nothing.

I had no problems downloading and installing the software and its already preregistered so no registration hassles.

I read the comments prior to trying to download any YouTube videos so I followed steps in comment #30 and had no issues. I’ve only downloaded a few YouTube video tutorials and so far I am very pleased at the ease and speed they downloaded and the ease of use of the software.

The only thing I would suggest to change so far (besides fixing the issues addressed in #30) is I wish it was easier to choose the default download locations and the ability to move the video files later. On the default screen I don’t see the video file location listed, but maybe I haven’t looked hard enough.

Kyle,

Thank you for comment. If you go File -> Edit - > Synopsis/video and click on the + sign beside "Full video (local file)" you will be able to move, rename and delete the video files associated to the given entry.

Just as a note, you can have as many video files per entry and the built-in player will play them one after the other automatically.

The program has some interesting functions, but for me it's useless and it fails because don't inform the location / address where the video is stored on the computer so that the user could select certain video in the program and then access it to perform the procedures he may want to do with the video.

Reply   |   Comment by jorge  –  Last year  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-1)

jorge,

You can find the location of your downloaded videos under Tools -> Options -> Default Download Location.

Otherwise under File -> New -> Web, right click on a row on the right-hand panel and select "Path" to change the location where the video will be downloaded.

My Film Kiosk, why would we need to comunicate with YOUR server? Doesn't the software know how to use public access movie details databases? Or just extract the data from the youtube download meta data? Doesn't the open source youtube-dl.exe you use do all that by itself?

I see that many of you are not able to use the YouTube search and you are getting only a blank page when looking for a video. We are investigating the issue and we hope to have a solution soon. Please retry tomorrow.

An alternative way of downloading from YouTube is as follows:

1.- Select File -> New and choose the tab called "Web".
2.- Copy the full link from YouTube or any other site you want to download from. See the list of supported sites here https://ytdl-org.github.io/youtube-dl/supportedsites.html
3.- Paste the link into the "Web address (URL)" anb click on "Add".
4.- When requested anter the "Title" of the video and press "OK".
5.- Right-click on the new row to define where you want to save the video (Path) and the subtitle language (Subtitles) you would like to have (if available).
6.- If you select "Add to My Film Kiosk" the video will be added to your video library. Otherwise, the video will only be downloaded (no new item in your video library),
7.- Click "OK"

Very sorry for the problem. Hope the instructions above will help.

My Film Kiosk, when I enter a youtube URL directly and create database entry for it... I am not offered any choice of the quality to download or format i.e. webm or mp4 and when I manage to make the program play the video file that is downloaded into a subfolder of the installations program files folder (which means you hacked the program files subfolder ACL to let any authenticated users non-admin processes write to it and all the other MFK subfolders which is BAD security and programming practice) it only renders the audio and not the video for me... IF I externally play the video file using zoom player or VLC or windows media player the video plays just fine but your player engine fails!

Reply   |   Comment by TK  –  Last year  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

TK,

The downloader will always download the best quality video available for the mp4-format. We see your point and we will consider doing something about it.

As for the download folder you can always change it under Tools -> Option -> Default download location. However, we will consider given the user the option to defined download folder early under installation.

Could you send us the link of the video you cannot play? Our player should be able to play almost every thing.

I am trying it at the moment. I have input a Web page containing about 5 different videos (not YouTube). There is no (apparent) link to download the video or to get information about them.

The first video appeared on the list, but I can't see (or download) the other ones.

Question: How to download multiple videos sitting on one single Web page?
That would help a lot!
Thanks!

Leave feedback on GOTD page seems to not work for me...

Some bugs found:
1. New|YouTube searches nothing. Tools|Update Download Engine says it's unneccesary and doesn't help.
2. No preview while selecting skins.
3. Menu Bar and Main Bar can be moved up/down but can't be moved one NEXT TO another (in one line).
4. New|YouTube|If available, download subtitles - only one to select but I wish to download in my home language, and - if doesn't exist / or both - in English.

Installed it and played with it for a while. Everything worked perfect. I downloaded a couple videos from YouTube and from Dailymotion successfully. Also added some video files from my hard drive to my collection. I was particularly delighted with Skip Scenes and Convert to Audio features.

I am not sure, but I think that problems started after I used Download audio option on the YouTube tab. I have successfully downloaded audio of some video from YouTube. But after that the YouTube tab stopped working. I cannot download neither videos nor audio from YouTube any more. Whenever I click the Search button the only thing I get is a small window with a progress-bar saying: " Reading Data from the Web..." which disappears very quickly (in a fraction of a second). But nothing displays in the download-window.

I have tried with Update Download Engine, but it doesn't help (it says: "The download engine is already up-to-date, it could not be updated. Your current version is 2019.09.12.1")

On the main menu bar (between Help and New User buttons) I have noticed a small red icon. When I hover the mouse pointer on it, it says "Download Services Off". I suppose that this icon should be green. But (although I am not quite sure, because I haven't paid attention in the beginning) I could swear that it was red all the time (I mean, while the program worked properly at the beginning). After all, despite this icon is red now, and says "Download Services Off", I still can download videos from other supported sites. But not from YouTube. Pretty weird, isn't it?

As I am unable to find a way to turn that red icon green, I would appreciate if someone could tell me what services this program has installed and can we find them in the Services console to turn them on manually.

(Win10 Enterprise, 64 bit)

Charlie,

The red button "Download Services Off" can be turned green if you register. You need this only if you want to download dvd/bluray covers from our cover database. Otherwise, do not worry about it.

The issue you are experiencing with the YouTube Search is under investigation (see our comment #30). Nothing do to with any of the actions you have taken in the application or the download engine. For the moment please use File -> New -> Web to download videos.

Along with my experience and those of many others on here I feel this bit of software has been released far too early as it still has many bugs to sort.

Less than half those making ANY comment have succeeded with my Film Kiosk 3 (Hate to imagine how poor 1& 2 were)

I am going to remove my copy and will look forward to version 4.0.

Today its thanks - but NO thanks. I have wasted enough of my time.

When I read the description, I thought this might be something worth having a look at. After requesting the download link which took nearly 40 minutes to arrive, I downloaded and installed the software, so far so good ... Now for the fun bit (not!) I tried to upgrade the download manager but I seemingly had the latest version, again so far so good ... The program opened as is should have, looking good, I thought, then it vanished from my screen. Rebooted the PC opened the program again and attempted open some of the various options .... Nothing, not a thing the program just refused to respond to any commands. Decided to uninstall and try again and again the installation went well ad after that I could open the various options but no matter what I entered or tried to do the program looked as if it was trying to do something but was unable to complete the task. Shame it didn't live up to it's own hype never mind work, assigned to the ever increasing list of useless, defective and busted software offered by GOTD.

Props to you developer, program for the most part worked for me, even though it is missing some hot video/audio, converting, more modern useful features.
Still finally a video program with at least some unique options, mostly all downloaders/converters we see on here, do mostly all have the same old standard common options.
Installed easily without issues. Like the quick Help Search box very useful. This program suprisingly was even able to download from a few other Normally hard to download websites.

Using the help box was able to test download a youtube video, but could not find the downloaded video in download manager or Anywhere else in program, but only on my pc drive, I could see it only when while downloading, could not find completed Downloads anywhere in program, but not a big issue . All sites tested downloaded fairly quickly.

**Also tested the mostly desired option To Skip scenes or parts of video, even with the Help box, this option is very basic & not really user friendly,
Could not get to work, could not find any easy quick In/Out points , or time code to simply select parts to skip.
I personally would prefer a more modern version of this option, like multi parts Video Trimmer,
To simply quickly select In/Out points , or time code select of parts to skip, then saved convert trimmed video or audio file to have on drive as desired for use anytime. ( A full video/audio Converter added would be great).

The built in media player, is also a bit too basic these days, looks like it only plays 1 video at a time,
Could not get player even play any of my standard Saved HD M3U or M3U8 playlist Videos. Needs to be more playlist friendly.

***Lastly, a few suggestions to make this even better, most unique All in One program,
if could have a full Video trimmer, converter and hot option to quickly remove vulgar or bad or offensive words, or ugly Logo do not want  in videos and audio, along with Full Media Player, with most popular video playlists crossfading/mixing , Visualization options, and any video/audio enhancement filters. Any of these improvements would be great.

This Program would be hands down, one of the best, most unique Media player program on the market online, as I have tried, or checked into mostly all similar programs  online.

Again, great concept, hope to follow this project for updates, hope to be my fav new program.

Please keep improving and keep up the great work on this project!

Running W7 on a pretty quick machine.
Downloaded OK without turning AVast off.

'My Current download engine is up to date or it could not be updated!'
Thats the message that I get when I try to resolve the issue of not downloading.

When first run the search commences and takes a while but displays no titles.
Next time I hit search the 'Search' bar appears for 2 secs and disappears - then nothing.
Close and repeat and same every time.

Anyone else getting that?

You do not need to create a user name and password unless you would like to download dvd/bluray covers and eventually contributing with your own (upload to our cover database).

The issue could be due to your firewall stopping My Film Kiosk from accessing our server. Could you give us some more detail information about the issue.

We are sending you an e-mail shortly. Please change the password once you get it.

I dont use windows XP anymore so this UI design that looks like windows XP is outdated. And I've been using youtube-dl python script program to download youtube videos so this program is redundant to install in my machine.

angus stradamus,

There are several skins you can choose from. So the look of the UI is quite flexible. To choose a different skin do as follows:

1.- Select "Tools/Options".
2.- Choose a different skin under "Interface Style". You may like the one called "Black". There is also one called "Halloween" for the upcoming season.

The main advantage of My Film Kiosk over using youtube-del by itself is the capacity to build-up a centralised video library and the built-in video player. All in one application.

Hope you can give it a try.

In response to [ Dxtreme ],

Create a MyFilmKiosk User name and password is to connect to their database and download and upload ... stuff.

What stuff, I don't know.

For example, MyFilmKiosk cannot identify unnamed video files the way programs such as MusicBrainz Picard and others can do with unnamed music files.

So ... yes, it's pre-registered regarding having a functional license.

No, it's not pre-registered regarding having a personal upload/download relationship with MyFileKiosk database for ... stuff.

Peter Blaise,

The user name and password is only required for downloading dvd/bluray covers. It will also be required if you would like to contribute with your own covers. Otherwise you do not need to register.

I do not see any way to have this software see my existing video files - it does not seem to have any feature that scans my storage to make a list of videos found.

Also, the help is a mess, full of dll errors and no images.

Clues?

How do I have it see a video I already have?

What is this software supposed to do?

I do not get it.

HELP!

Peter Blaise,

To import all your existing video files:
1.- Go to "File/New" or press ctrl+N.
2.- In the dialogue that appears choose the tab "Video Files". Here you can define the file formats you want to import and the place to import it to.
3.- Click on Search. You will then have all your video files listen on the right.hand panel.
4.- Choose which ones to import by selecting "Add to My Film Kiosk".
5.- Right-click on the list to investigate other possibilities.

Peter Blaise,

Not sure why the help file is not working for you. We have tested it on different systems before releasing it. What Windows version are you using?

Reply   |   Comment by My Film Kiosk  –  Last year  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+5)

Peter Blaise, You go File - New and get a pop up select Video Files - Put in a search path - click on search - In the results click the left boxes of the files you want then click ok

Okay, in My Film Kiosk 3.0.0, under File > New > Path > I gave it a path to one network drive, and it found 10,000 video files BUT no way to select all.

No, I'm not going to click on 10,000 files one at a time to import them.

And that's just one of 5 drives, so, no, I'm not clicking on 4 more drives with 10,000 files each.

I'll test 3 videos.

Then My Film Kiosk 3.0.0 looks like it wants me to name each file, as if this cannot look stuff up, the way MusicBrainz Picard and other software does for unnamed music.

I can see the 3 imported videos in a list, but no information on them, not even where they came from, so "Title_3" comes from what directory identifying it's original DVD title source?

I don't know from My Film Kiosk 3.0.0, that information has been thrown away!

Ya mean ... My Film Kiosk 3.0.0 threw away that critical information of what directory a file came from, and now I have "Title_3" with no way of knowing what's in it?

And they expect me to do that x 10,000 files x 5 drives?

50,000 repeats of this insanity?

Just to make a list of files with no meaningful names, because My Film Kiosk 3.0.0 doesn't realise that directory names hold critical identifying information, and because My Film Kiosk 3.0.0 can't intelligently look stuff up and identify it?

Hmm ... it looks like My Film Kiosk 3.0.0 is just a "dumb" empty database with blank form fields for us to manually build our own library catalog or whatever we want to catalog, manually typing the name of each file one at a time?

I wouldn't even do that if I had this software years ago before I started storing more than one video on my computers!

... so, this software actually does not do anything, we have to do everything?

Why not just use DOS [ Dir /o /b /s > my-movies.txt ] where I can import those txt files into Excel, search, sort, select, print, PDF, HTML ...

Until My Film Kiosk 3.0.0 has an "import all" and "let me look that up for you and identify it" set of features, it's not offering anything useful for me to get started with it.

Back to Windows File Explorer ... oh, there are all my videos!

Now on second loading, My Film Kiosk just open with an error that it can't find file in expected path ***.mfk2, then an access violation in MFK.exe, and never arrives on screen.

I wanted to "Right-click on the list to investigate other possibilities" ...

... so, what are the "other possibilities"?

Load all and auto-identify?

.

Peter Blaise,

If you right-click on the list, you will be able to select all the files at once. Just click on "Select All".

Peter Blaise,

This happens when My Film Kiosk cannot find its database. May you have moved it of changed its location under "Tools -> Options -> Default File Location?

Reply   |   Comment by My Film Kiosk  –  Last year  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

Peter Blaise,

When importing videos, My Film Kiosk will check for the presence of meta data in the file (cover picture, duration, etc). However, it does not look for information in the folder the file is coming from.

After importing, go to File -> Edit or press F2. Go then to the tab "Synopsis/Video". Click on the + button to the right of "Full video (local file). Here you can see where files are stored.

In response to [ My Film Kiosk ],

I use Windows 7 64 Pro, but I'm getting tired of programs that depend on other programs to run.

All programs should run from their own single directory tree and never ever need anything outside that, and be independently copyable for backup and restore.

Installation should be as simple as unzipping a single directory tree and throwing an icon on the desktop and start menu.

If you cannot provide 100% of the dependencies for your own programs to run, then you are going to get these kind of "make up for broken Windows" problems ... and you must know that Microsoft is working against you.

Do you plan to have a DVD ripper that creates the metadata that WOULD identify a misnamed file?

Do you plan to ever have a way of standardized identifying a digital video file, like books and music files?

Thanks.

Peter Blaise,

My Film Kiosk has everything it needs to run inside its installation folder. That is why the error message you mention should only appear when the application cannot access its database. We would very much appreciate if you could tell us whether you have move the database file. If not, could you re-install the application.

As for the meta data, do you mean My Film Kiosk writing meta data back to your file? That seems like a good idea to consider. For the moment it works so that the title of the entry is equal to the file name. An alternative solution would be to have a find and replace function for misnamed files or tell the system to simply use the folder name as the title. We will look at this.

Thank you for your feed-back and hope you can help us with the error message.

[ My Film Kiosk ],

You apparently build a database where the video files come from, and if on a network drive that is off line the next time we run your program, your program crashes.

The database should be local, and it should reference where the files come from.

- - - - - - - - - -

You need OCR optical character recognition to scan the beginning and end of video files looking for identifying information, especially the Motion Picture Production Code film number at the end, then offer to rename the database entry and the file with the standard reference, and offer to move files to appropriate directories, such as unrelated trailers to trailers, but related trailers to the relates master video directory, and so on, and keep sidecars such as language subs together with the appropriate video, and renamed appropriately so as to load automatically when watching the video.

Good luck with that.

But I'm not scanning that in advance ( 20 TB and incrementing daily, 500+ TV series, 3,000+ movies, and countless videos from TED, National Geographic, distance learning, and such ), and I'm not looking all that up by hand, and I'm not typing that to rename my resources, so if you want to sell us something that we want, something that we will not do otherwise, there's your clue for a next development project challenge.

Thanks.
.
