Everyone has private data, and if your data need protecting, then Kryptel is what you are after. Kryptel is an easy-to- use no-hassle solution even a new computer user will be comfortable with. You want to encrypt a file? Just drag it to the Kryptel icon, and Kryptel will do the rest. But easy-to- use does not mean simple or insecure. Kryptel is based on modern Advanced Encryption Standard and performs a full range of encryption tasks – from basic drag-and- drop file encryption to complex automated encryption jobs.

  • Easy File and Folder Encryption: Just right-click a file or a folder and select "Encrypt" - or drag it to the Kryptel desktop icon.
  • Strong Encryption: uses the latest NIST-approved Advanced Encryption Standard; several additional well-reputed ciphers are available for advanced users.
  • File Sets: Define an encryption job and encrypt thousands of files in a single click!
  • Encrypted Backups: Ideal for safe data storage. Thanks to strong encryption, Kryptel backup files can be stored anywhere - burned to a DVD, moved to LAN storage, or even sent to a remote public server.
  • Failure Resistant: Even if the computer crashes in the middle of encryption step, no data will be lost. And if an encrypted container becomes corrupted due to hardware failure, Kryptel Data Recovery gives you a good chance to get your data back.

Please note the program archive also includes the portable version which might be used only on the removable media and needs to be activated with the provided key as the usual one!

I installed the program without a problem. However, when it asks me to enter the customer-id for the activation, I get the message "Unrecognized reply from activation server". I received and entered the customer ID: 9533-48707-0522.

kiwi, please disable your ad blocker (or other software filtering your Internet traffic).

support, I never had to disable my firewall for activation of any software... and will never do it; rather not use the software so I uninstall Kryptel!

Paul, I said nothing about firewall. I said "ad blocker or other traffic filtering software". Ad blockers typically insert their own html data, corrupting the server response.

support, Sorry, I misunderstood what you meant then by traffc filtering :-( I apologize for that.

Can someone explain to a novice how to install the portable version? In the comments I read " Unzip 'Kryptel 8.2.1 Portable' folder. After unzipping, you will see 'Kryptel.exe' and 'Kryptel' folder in the root folder of your USB drive ", and in the 'How to install (portable version) txt file I read "Unzip this archive to the root directory of your USB drive". But I cannot find a ZIPPED 'portable version', and I do not know what 'unzip this archive' means.

Stevo, copy the contents of the 'Kryptel 8.2.1 Portable' folder to the root folder of your USB drive. 'Unzipping' a .zip archive means unpacking it, i.e. copying its contents somewhere.

Reply   |   Comment by support  –  4 months ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Stevo,

>"But I cannot find a ZIPPED 'portable version'"
The portable edition is not actually zipped; it is included in the zipped file you download from GOTD. The file you download from GOTD is a Zip file, so first unzip it (double-click it in Windows to see the contents, then copy the contents to an empty folder outside the Zip file).

The zipped file has three pieces. 1) readme.txt, 2) setup.exe, and 3) the folder named Kryptel 8.2.1 Portable.

The activation code is in the readme.txt file. The setup.exe is for users that do not want to use the portable edition.

If you want to use Kryptel as a portable, then copy the contents of that folder (Kryptel 8.2.1 Portable) to the root of a portable drive or removable drive. Most likely that drive connects to your computer via a USB. You do not need to copy the file named How to install.txt (it basically tells you what I am explaining now).

The removable drive will have a folder named Kryptel and also a file named Kryptel.exe.

Finally, run the executable file that is now on the root of the removable drive (Kryptel.exe). You will be prompted to enter the code (from readme.txt) to activate the program.

If you have any problems, post a reply. Best of luck to you.

ozi ripa, you need to install the desktop version (setup.exe) in order to add the right-click commands to the Explorer menu.

WILL not activate on an external HD.

Same as Jack K. (in comment #5).

Strangely, I deleted a prior installed version of Kryptel on this same HD! Sorry I did so now as I have nothing. I will not proceed further with uninstalls for replacement until this registration glitch is corrected.

Also, strangely, I have been able to install on other external HDs (USB).

I have used the exact same copy-and-paste for the customer number and am told "No appropriate license found."

UPDATE: I sent an e-mail to support (krsupport@kryptel.com) earlier and received a fast response while out.

When I got back, I applied the solution suggested by the Support Team and it worked perfectly the first time.

Thanks!

There is a major problem with all programs that pretend to be free, and then say that you may not reinstall it. Consider this scenario: I use the program, and then move my processed data to secure storage. At some time later, I happen to have to replace my hard drive because it failed. The net effect is that my safely stored data is now hostage, as I cannot reinstall the program that reads that data, without now having to purchase the program.

A program is either free, or it is just a come on.

Reply   |   Comment by Cyn  –  4 months ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+4)

Cyn,

If you really want to use this software without purchasing it (so you can always reinstall it) you might want to create the portable version offered today so that you will always have a working copy of the program for just such an emergency or disaster as you described. Put it on a CD or flash drive and it will serve as "insurance" for a hard drive crash or die emergency. If I understand the directions correctly, you should activate the portable version today after you create it so it will work in the future.

Hope that helps.

Cyn, you can always decrypt your data with free Kryptelite program. You don't need to purchase anything for that.

The portable version takes up 30Mb and has over three hundred files.
The one I use (USBsecurity) takes up 1.3Mb and is just one .exe file.
Are all these files necessary?

Portable version, after adding the Customer ID with no extra characters I get "No appropriate license found". Cannot install.

Reply   |   Comment by Tony  –  4 months ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+3)

Tony, we have investigated the issue and have found that this error occurs if the user activates the portable version on a fixed drive, or on a portable drive that is not recognized as such. One reason may be wrong BIOS settings, for example, if an ESATA external drive is not marked in BIOS as removable.

The simplest workaround is to use another removable drive.

Reply   |   Comment by support  –  4 months ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+5)

krypteller , what do you mean exactly? How do you get the license code from the Customer ID, if only Customer ID is provided from GOTD? From what i know, the PC license is different from the Portable one, so using each of them on each other won't do it, they need to be activated separately.

Reply   |   Comment by senzai6293  –  4 months ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+4)

krypteller , copy the Kryptel folder on an USB key, then launch kryptel executable inside Sandboxie, as admin.

Reply   |   Comment by Poisson Rouge  –  4 months ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

krypteller , the license code is stored in kryptel.lic in Settings subfolder on the USB drive but you won't get it without previously having activated a portable version in the past...

Trying to activate the portable version using the given customer ID , I keep getting a "No appropriate license found" window pop-up

Jack K., I've just tried activating the portable version with 9533-48707-0522 and everything seems to work perfectly.

Please try again. Unzip 'Kryptel 8.2.1 Portable' folder. After unzipping, you will see 'Kryptel.exe' and 'Kryptel' folder in the root folder of your USB drive. Run Kryptel.exe, select 'Activate with Customer ID', and paste 9533-48707-0522.

Reply   |   Comment by senzai6293  –  4 months ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+6)

senzai6293, Kryptel does NOT store passwords.

Password Manager does keep passwords in encrypted form, but it is an optional component. It uses the standard Kryptel storage for passwords: https://www.kryptel.com/articles/developers/storage8.php

Reply   |   Comment by support  –  4 months ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+3)

support, so it's MD5 hashes on encrypted data?

Reply   |   Comment by senzai6293  –  4 months ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

senzai6293, sorry, I don't understand what you mean. Kryptel uses MD5 hashes as checksums for non-critical data, but that has nothing to do with passwords. For sensitive data it uses SHA-512 HMACs.

Kryptel does not store passwords; it securely destroys the password when the current operation is finished. That is, in order to decrypt the data you will have to enter the password again, because there is no stored copy. That's how every encryption program works (or, at least, must work).

Gary, Sounds like it is a limited time license...can use forever but only if you don't update or try and re-install.
