Treasure Hunter Man 3.9Mb
This is a very well-deserved re-post, this time with screenshots, from Week 62, HERE where it was listed by Wizzard amongst five other games. It’s a superb 2D side-scrolling platformer with considerable fan support.
You start on a journey full of peril, adventure, and above all, treasures to find and keep.
It’s a journey of choices. Make wrong choices and either you will get stuck and be unable to progress, . . . or it might well be . . . game over!
There’s quite a large world to explore, with enemies and bosses, items to collect, chasms to leap, and many standard platformer features such as moving platforms, spike pits, destroyable blocks, notice-boards to read, characters to speak to, and tongue in cheek in-game humor, that you might even occasionally find very funny! - Sometimes the islanders introduce some of the enemy bosses to you! The game has two endings depending on how you complete it, and a couple of well-hidden secrets for you to find.
The game looks great, with super retro style graphics, plays well and sounds good. Gravity and movements are slow, so it’s more of a relaxed platformer, rather than a frantic all-action one (except when dealing with enemies, or avoiding moving traps!). There are many innovative aspects to the gameplay, such as floating under a scarf/handkerchief! The scenes are very nicely drawn, and look just the part. I think Treasure Hunter Man’s headband is a ninja sort of thing! There is a slight delay in your character attacking, probably a time-lag thing, as combining controls also has other uses, which means you have to anticipate a bit and allow for this!
There’s a good storyline. You arrive on an island, as a nobody, and don’t know what you are doing there, and have to find weapons etc and increase your standing with the islanders. You earn different weapons either by exploring or defeating some enemies.
Some weapons are interesting eg the boomerang! You also gain extra abilities by defeating various enemies; such as running and gliding that will help you in your quest. The scenery and enemies are quite varied, adding a lot of interest to the game. The game has a lot of depth to it and there’s plenty of replay value, to find treasures you missed previously, or puzzles you couldn't solve first time round!
Exploration is fun, with many routes to choose, and places and buildings to explore, as well as all of the characters to talk to or fight with! And there are 4 large dungeons to get lost in on the island. It reminds me in some ways of Frogatto, HERE though Frogatto requires more dexterity in moving your character; partly adding to the style of gameplay! But Treasure Hunter Man will keep you well-enough occupied if you enjoy platform games, exploring and fighting, without having to worry about tricky manoeuvres aside of dealing with enemies! Many of the islanders are hostile, though you 'may' get to speak to them before fighting each other! Finding your way around and finding treasures will keep you enough on your toes, even if some (!) enemies are relatively easy to despatch! There are some very decent puzzles to solve on the way!
The game is by no means short, and it’s also some challenge! It is reminiscent of (the classic!) ‘Cave Story’ in some ways.
You have to find all of the treasures and defeat enemies/bosses to complete the game. There are game-save points throughout the game.
You can find details on how to play at the link above. You might find that the game starts to a ‘THM starter’ on the taskbar. Click on this to proceed! The ‘X’ key is used to select in-game and in-menu and to go through in-game dialogues, ‘arrow’ keys to move, ‘Shift’ or ‘X’ to jump, tap ‘Ctrl’ to use acquired weapon, ‘up arrow’ key to enter doors or converse when facing islanders! ‘Backspace’ to change weapons, and hold ‘Ctrl’ key or use 'Z' key to run when ability obtained! Boomerangs are thrown using the 'up' and 'down arrow keys together with the 'Z' key. Use the ‘Enter’ key to see your inventory.
Great game and very highly recommended!

There’s a twelve part (and a 15 part!) walkthrough on YouTube, the link below is for part one. (The voice-overs have been dubbed in the videos, there aren’t voice talkies in-game unfortunately!)
