I agree with #3,

Wondershare QuizCeator is better than this quiz software, no matter the 9 question types or multimedia objects supported, hope GoTD and Wondershare offer QuizCreator again!

#53 - that might be true if you're sitting alone in your basement not connected to the Internet, but once online, anyone running XP SP1 is a menace to themselves AND EVERYONE ELSE. That's why they call them "CRITICAL UPDATES"... they're CRITICAL.. get it? Anyone who has not patched the known security holes in their OS is a sitting duck just waiting to be added to somebody's bot-net. If you don't know what talking about - Google it. Sites like this would actually be smart to block connections from machines not properly patched. (yes that can be done - easily)

I opened and closed the program several times after activating it, and every time, in the test editor's "about" window, it showed the program properly registered to GAOTD.

I would suggest that the developer either create a help file, a good FAQ, or else start up a support forum for your products and let product users help each other via forum.

I did some googling to search for something to support the claim that Exam Reactor is "one of the leading software brands in custom test composing".
In a half hour of searching, I found nothing to substantiate that claim. However I easily found a wide variety of freeware test, quiz, & exam creation applications.

The problem is - how do you distribute the "test" you create unless the recipient has a paid copy of the software? The tests wind up being in some proprietary file format, not something you can push online, and not a standard format like a .PDF form. So really - what use is the software? Thumb's down. You might better use a SCORM-compliant tool that will create a Flash-based test that can be put online. There are several that use PowerPOint or similar as the base, and then convert to streaming Flash for the web. Articulate presenter, Adobe Captivate, etc. both have learning management tools.

Sorry - No go on this one.

#42, just to clear up the record for my #8 entry, I made a mistake in my description. I am running 6 different PCs at home for various family activities. After a sleepless night, I crossed two facts incorrectly when I posted #8; 4 of the PCs are XP Business SP3, two are Vista Business Premium SP1 (planning to go to SP2, though I'd probably do better to downgrade them to XP and get higher performance and I'd swear at my PCs just a little less often.) At this point I'll wait until 7 comes out commercially and decide then, but I have fresh licensed XP disks if MS prices the upgrade too high.

Anyway, the problem I described in #8 was on the Vista units, and neither one registered the software properly, as described. The software is in trial mode only, so I'm not going to waste my time any further.

As for today's offer? They might as well have offered another DVD ripper. Maybe tomorrow's offer will be one I can use. ???

#42. Please watch your blood pressure. I know that high flyers like you live on the edge with the latest of everything - no doubt you have Windows RC8. A recent survey which included every version of windows and linux, and others less well known, showed that 50% used WINDOWS XP SP1 or SP2. Maybe because they like it??? So you do what you need to and leave others to decide what they want. And by the way, your insinuation that people don't update because they have "dodgy" software really shows how pompous you are.

This is the worst piece of crap I ever found on GAotD. It can't be activated. Running Activation.exe still leaves it "UNREGISTERED". I even looked up the registration code in regitry and inserted it manually. Then it repies "Thank you for using Exam Reactor!", but the title line still says "UNREGISTERED", and the menu still has the entry to add registration code, and a lik to Get a full version. I even says tat as a registered user I can get a full version, but the link leads to a page to buy a full version. What a complete rip-off. The test editor can't be used at all witout a proper activation, not even to open the example test. So the only thing one can do with this software is to take the braindead 4 question test.

The software installed and registered fine for me. And when I had to find the Example1.erproj file, I just navigated to the folder where I had it installed and went under the Example directory there and found it.
I was able to resize my windows to show all the answers.
And I was able to score 100% after the 2nd time through, but only after I had gone into the editor and looked at the answers.

Not a very helpful program, as I have taught school for a number of years, since it lacks most of the basic and other features of a quiz or test generator.
I find its limitations quite difficult to deal with since I have used more advanced programs that do a far better job than this one.
So this one is NOT a keeper for me.

Having tried this and compared it with Teach 2000, I can't see it as a serious application.

A wonderful way to waste a half hour, install play and discard.

It dosnt just lack a few features, it just lacks features full stop.
Strange GOTD would put this forward, and its normal price tag beggars belief.

Somebody wants to charge $69 for this piece of crap? The first time I ran it, after installing, it gave me a choice between opening an existing test file or creating a new one. So far, so good. I didn't see any existing tests, so I shut down the program without doing anything.

Now, everytime I start the program, it wants me to enter the name of an existing test file. No option to create a new one anymore. What's more, even if there was an existing file, it won't allow me to type more than one letter of the filename at a time. After each letter, I get an error that says "The file cannot be opened".

Worst ... software ... EVER!

@8 - XP SP1?! You are here downloading "Exam Reactor"(?!) but you can't make the time in the past 8 years to go to windows update?!

http://update.microsoft.com

Everything is going to be ok... but please, stop trying to install whatever the hell this is and go update your pc so perhaps future versions of pointless software useful to about 3% of the population can be successfully installed on your machine. Thank you.

The software has to be closed before it is activated. Not having any help is a big drawback especially when they use terms like 'variant' without explaining the context. However I am not giving up on it yet. I think it might be a quick way to generate lots of similar questions.
I liked the Teach200 software mentioned in last post.

As someone pointed out above, there is no Help file or any help at the website.

As far as I can tell there is nothing that makes this a "test maker".
Looks like a simple text program to me.

Installed and activated easily. After seeing how limited this is, I deleted it and it appeared to delete easily also.

RE: #5:
Education is ALWAYS considered Non-Profit/Non-Commercial in the basis of software licenses, in fact 90% of software licenses make an exception just for education.

In this case, unless the school is using it system-wide or even for direct education rather than individual use, I would say it counts, simply because it's more individual use than it is education by the school of students. If it is being used in an official context by the school, well, one license isn't enough, so they can't really use this here can they?

But it's nice for a school to use as a demo or a try-out before buying. I think that would be the developers intentions...

With the installation, besides creating a shortcut for itself entitled “Exam Reactor Editor” it created a shortcut for something called “Exam Reactor Launcher”. What exactly that is was a bit of a mystery because when I opened that program there were no provisions for accessing a Help file. So I exiting that program and opened the “Exam Reactor Editor” where low and behold there was a provision for a Help file. However, I ran into a problem when I tried to open it; the problem was it wouldn’t open.

This developer calls this a “helpful program” and states, “Everybody knows that it is always sensible to invest in education. And only competent staff can make your business prosper.” Well to that I’d say if they want their own business to prosper, they need to follow some of their own advice. They need to use this “helpful program” and create a test for evaluating the competency of whoever worked on developing this program.

Too many bugs in the system(or program, if you will). I'll pass on this one just for the sake of my machine(don't need another crash you know). Hopefully GAOTD can work out a deal with Enplase Research, AFTER THEY WORK OUT A.L.L. OF THE BUGS. They've got the right idea, but the bugs THE BUGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Drill Assistant
For people who don't like Teach2000 or Exam reactor, because it has way less features.

Today's Giveaway allows me a day to relax and take it easy. It is a challenge to keep up with each day's Giveaways.

There must be a better way for GAOTD. For example, GAOTD can allow for a longer period to download a giveaway if a member is registered and had provided comments that draws positive comments over a period of one month, something like that.

It appears that the test would have to be taken on the machine where it was created - or on another that has this program on it. That makes it's usefulness far too limited, even aside from the fact that the eye appeal is low.

The account of the operation of the software is very misleading. It doesn't "create" any test: the user has to set the questions and know the answers to be expected, so from the point of view of putting a test on a sheet of paper it does nothing. What it actually does is assemble the test data provided into an interactive programme to be run on a computer. Perhaps "Interactive Test Assembler" would define its function more accurately.
