I am new to these giveaways and think they are absolutely the best thing I have ever found on the internet, as I've never been a very technical person. This freeware is outstanding and I know it will help me in the future, both personally and business wise.
To the person who stated the follow in comment #3 . . you said
You just need two things: 1) Keepvid.com to grab the video
2) Format Factory to convert
Format Factory is totally free and Keepvid is free to use online. Enuff Said.
Where would I be able to get Keepvid.com and Format Factory. I would really appreciate knowing this as I need a lot of help with video given I'm new to video on the internet.
Thanks,
Corinne

Got this reponse from the company:
please go to Microsoft website
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0856EACB-4362-4B0D-8EDD-AAB15C5E04F5&displaylang=en
to download dotnetfx.exe, it will solve this problem.
Also you can use website http://www.dvdcopyrip.com/flv-download.php to download YOUTUBE videos.

michael - "Nice step-by-step with screenshots, but no mention of the DIVIDE BY ZERO problem."
It's not a divide by zero error, it's a length cannot be less than zero error. This means that a function in the program is expecting an argument that isn't passed correctly. It doesn't seem to be browser related, since it occurs when using the built-in search function to find the video. The DVD Ripper by these people was also buggy. I hope GAOTD posts a fix when they check the comments.

I was able to contact the publisher via email this evening and received a fast response. Here is the suggestion given by Extra Multimedia aka dvdcopyrip.com:
"Hi, please go to Microsoft website http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=0856EACB-4362-4B0D-8EDD-AAB15C5E04F5&displaylang=en to download dotnetfx.exe, it will solve this problem. Also you can use website http://www.dvdcopyrip.com/flv-download.php to download YOUTUBE videos.
Unfortunately, I tried doing this and still am unable to get the downloader to work. Still the publisher was very responsive and I will hope that a solution might still be forthcoming... CHUCK..HELP PLEASE.

Not one piece of software I have tried from GAOTD in the last 3 weeks has worked on Windows 7 x64. I'm going to assume it is the same for Vista x64 unless someone tells me I'm wrong. Come one GAOTD, throw us 64 bit users a frickin' bone already!

JunK! Tried everything on Vista and always get that error, uninstalled FAST! Please people, try KickYoutube, nothing easier. Good luck!

I've been getting the same length cannot be zero error, so I looked arround the site to see if I could find anything in the FAQs, but no luck there. Next, I tried inputting the URL preceeded by length:5, but I guess it needs some type of seperator for that to work, because I got a new error "prefix not recognized" (no surprize, but it was worth a shot). I am intrigued to find out how #109 "fixed" the error.
As for the software, it seems to me the big pain for everyone is the downloader. (downloader=rubbish) However, the converter seems to work nicely, so if you don't mind getting your video downloaded elsewhere, you can still use the converter without ever having to face the downloader once you've registered it. I'll keep both for the moment in hopes we can get a solution for that darn error.(In Frankenstein's Monster terms: converter good, downloader bad - AAAaaarrrrgh!)
In the meantime, I'm glad I grabbed the "Youtube Music Downloader" offered here a while back, that works nicely. I hope many of you were also able to grab it. I'll have to see which I like better for converting. Either way, it's always nice to have another tool in the arsenal. Thanks.

The homepage link near the top of this GOTD page leads to Extra's page on today's Youtube Downloader + Converter (the Converter looks to be their regular Video Converter program, the Youtube program seems new). Nice step-by-step with screenshots, but no mention of the DIVIDE BY ZERO problem. Do not understand why no-one from GOTD or Extra has addressed the isssue, unless perhaps they also know not & are trying to figure it out/fix it. Strange. If I were promoting software, would sure want to know what people's comments/reactions were.
Installed, registered, opened & closed easily. Quickly finds Youtube links (tho' I did not verify their validity; perhaps the problem is there?). No downloading, with the common DIVIDE BY ZERO error appearing. Look forward to a resolution; no more time to play with it now.

I first installed on Vista 32-bit. That was my post above
I then tried the install on Windows 7RC 32-bit, same thing already had these DLLs and The codec files, so the install just incremented the count under the Shared DLLs registry key.
The file is not called VideoConverter.exe, it's VideoConvert.exe
BTW, it can rename rather than ask you what you'd like to do.]
That's not true......
Window Vista solved the DLL Hell issue and I've been beta testing Windows 7 since the very first release. No install I have ever performed and renamed any file. the only way that works is if you copy a file to another directory and that filename already exists, it will then ask and wants to name it (2) after the filename.
Anyway, still the same error message, "length cannot be less than zero”
So I'm going to just use the Extra Video Converter portion of the program since the registration went OK.

I have to take back part of what I said above @ #31...
The Youtube browsing feature of this program is unbearably slow.
The FF add-on, plus any video converter > This package.
Uninstalled, thumbs down.

I haven't loooked to see if anyone had solved the "less than zero" issue - over 100 messages, not worth it.
Installed it, tried to use it, it failed, deleted it. Good idea, Poor development. Better luck next time.

At last... #109 Chuck has fixed the “lenght cannot be less than zero” error which has been reported by almost any downloader. Chuck however does NOT explain how he fixed this error! Extra Software Inc. (the Publisher) does not respond at all! Thumbs down for this company!!

There are many other software options that you can choose from that are completely free. Example, Any Video Converter. The software both converts videos off of Youtube and on Youtube. (Also can convert the video file to audio only). Any Video Converter can also take from video.google.com

As for the questions "can you put this on a DVD" ? Yes.... There is a FREE program for both Linux and Windows called DeVeDe...Google it.
You drag the FLV (You tube video) files into the program, check the bottom for PAL (Europe) or NTSC (North America). Then once you have finished adding the files, you then press start. This might take some time depending on the speed of your computer. Maybe a hour or two to convert it into a burnable DVD file called a ISO.
What DeVeDe will do is to convert it into a ISO...from there when the ISO is done. Use Nero, Roxio or Brasero to burn that file AS A ISO file.
The you should be good to go... good luck.
Oh as for the program offered...it was a no go for me...but thanks anyway. Use the free Firefox extension for downloading Youtube videos.

Absolute CRAP
like so much of the sloppily-written software on this site, with very few glorious exceptions - most of the stuff is worthless and much better apps can be found with a bit of looking around. Just because this shit is free, you don't necessarily need any of it... waste of time, and, if you ever end up buying any of this garbage, total waste of money, too.
Think about it.

Youtube I think is blocking all downloads of videos. It is not just this application. Many of the websites I have visited also are broken.

#109-HOW did you fix the “length cannot be less than zero” error?
Save | Cancel
#61 Bruce. It's hard to get an answer like that here in the comments section. You may want to join the GOTD forums were you can get more give and take on any topic, not just today's software, and where you don't have to wait for your commment to be moderated. The short, probably obvious answer is that Online Armor doesn't like something about Extra Video Converter and needs you to tell it you trust the software and that it's okay. Since no one else has posted warnings from any other protection software, you're probably safe.
#65 Brenda. Same advice. You should consider joining us in the forums. The reason you don't get an answer on this is that it's not exactly the right place to ask, because it's hard to get quick give and take, and because it's an overly simplified question. The short answer is yes, but. Yes, you can get .flvs (or whatever you download) to play on a home DVD player, but not without additional software. You're going to need a DVD creation software that'll work with these files because they have to burned in a DVD compatible format to play on your home DVD player. You probably already have one or more DVD creators. If it doesn't allow you to create a menu for your DVD, then it's not the right type of burner. Software's that are strictly converters won't do that. Just copying flvs, or any of the other formats Extra downloader converts to, on to a DVD won't work. As Mike - our resident media guru - recommends, videohelp.com is an excellent site if you want to dive into computer media. And/or join us in the forums. There, someone tried to answer you!
100 Peggy. Amen. But I'm afraid there's so much turnover, combined with so many who pay no attention to any voices but the ones in their heads, that we end up having to say it over, and over, and over, and over....

#65 CAN I PUT THIS ON A DVD TO WATCH ON TV? No one either 1) seems to know or 2) just doesn’t bother to answer.
Why not download it and try it for yourself instead of asking others to do so. It'd probably be faster than waiting for a reply that will probably never come.
#76 I missed the firewall software from the 26th. I really need 1.
Please Can anybody help me!?
Go to the blog posts from the 26th and you'll probably find 20-30 alternatives that others listed throughout that giveaway.

Had some problems at the very start. Had to fix the "lenght cannot be less than zero" error. Once I did that, the program ran great. First Youtube downloader I have ever seen that converts too. Works great!! I had 2 other Youtube downloaders. Got rid of both of them. This one is faster, easier to use, and converts the file after the download. I cannot think of anything else that i would need it to do. I rate it a 9 out of 10. Would have rated it a 10 if it werent for the error.

So many audio formats, so many video formats... its become real difficult to keep track of audio and video codecs so that you can play downloaded stuff, leave alone play embedded stuff such as YouTube videos!
I really liked Extra YouTube Downloaded and Converter though! I might review it on http://www.welloiledpc.com/media.htm, where I talk about downloading embedded media files. Do visit!
