Give me a program that will allow me to delete all the junk programs on my Galaxy S5 that came pre-installed by Google & Verizon. Now that I'd pay money for! So far I've not worked up the nerve to Jailbreak it on my own! Will give this a try for making a backup of my photos & data though.

Ron Dunn, I agree. I hate those applications. I just got a new phone a couple of months ago and I have disabled as many of those that I can. The main issue is that when the application has an update it re-enables the application. My other phone never updated the disabled applications.

Hammerdown58, I have bricked and unbricked phones including the original Motorola Droid. But I have not rooted my Galaxy S8. Verizon makes it harder with each phone and with each update. And it is more important to keep the security features enabled as far as I am concerned. I know that you can install the security updates but that is more pain than I want to endure. It is a multi-step process and to keep on top of when they come out is more than I can deal with.
My previous phone, the S5 and my Galaxy Nexus and my Droid are all rooted. I use the S5 like an "iPod" for listening to podcasts when out in my yard mowing or working on the flower beds. I liked rooting well enough and was lucky that the S5 version that I owned was one of the ones that was easier to root, but it is not worth it for me to do it on the S8.

AFAIK you'll probably have to do a factory reset, or optionally, see if they have an open source Android OS for your make/model of tablet, which might let you get a newer version of Android than what was released by the tablet's manufacturer.
