But, you see that is NOT what I want in a video editor.
I do not want the kitchen sink + 1,000 other useless "features" added in to "add value" to the software.
The complication and potential bugs/crashes are terrible.
I just want a straight shot capable video editor that does the job fast and easy.
Which clearly AV-Video-Morpher Version 3.0.2 is NOT.

AV Video Morpher is a somewhat unusual app in that it doesn't have much in common with most video apps or tools out there. That starts with the GUI -- which you can change to a more blue-gray color scheme via the View menu -- and progresses to the code used, where the almost standard ffmpeg appears to be missing. Without it I wouldn't expect to see the usual range of input & output formats, though it looks like AV Video Morpher might be able to use the codecs you've installed to Windows separately.
AV Video Morpher uses some older code, e.g. the Active X file: "wavdest.ax", which was commonly used in the late 90s & early 2000s, and that *might* have some issues with Windows 7/8/10. Run normally AV Video Morpher adds files/folders to the Windows 7 Virtual Store -- you might want to un-check the box to run AV Video Morpher when setup completes, & for the 1st run in 7 you might want to run as admin -- in 10 you might want to right click AV Video Morpher.exe [in the program's folder] & select troubleshoot compatibility.
[Using the Virtual Store isn't a huge deal, but if you can avoid it, cool. This is where I'd like to insert a link to a web page that fully explained Windows Virtual Store, but I couldn't find one... a brief sorta summary is that Windows redirects files/folders to a more protected area as part of UAC, & that *Usually* works fine, but it's an extra layer of complexity that can go wrong.]
Installing AV Video Morpher adds a bit short of 5k new registry entries, for those who mind that sort of thing, & can try to take over as the default video DVD player. Roughly 475 files get added, most in the program's "AV Video Morpher' folder, with one folder added to My Documents, & *maybe* a few to User\ [UserName]\ AppData\ Local\ VirtualStore\ . Two files -- msvcp71.dll & msvcr71.dll -- are added to Windows\ System32\ . For those with a copy of AV Video Morpher already, the AV Video Morpher.exe file version is 1.0.0.5 -- the Product version shows 2.0.0.0 -- the Date modified is 10/30/2012 5.50 AM, all from that .exe file's properties.

I have had this before and it is a keeper.
I have in the past installed it on XP, Millenium and now W7 Pro and W7 Ultimate without a hitch.
Note:- if you get a link sent to your email and then return to the GOTD page to download DO NOT click the green box (Duh) - Use your eyes!
Download and read the Instructions. In there find the link to the website and enter details. When you have done that correctly a code will appear at bottom of page. Copy that then come back and run Setup. When installed a box will appear asking you to register using key supplied. Just under that is a box that says 'Install Full Version' or words to that effect - click that and enter details INCLUDING the key that you copied and then you are done.
Worked twice for me.
Good prog works well but interface is rubbish.
Bit like the missus really - getting on a bit but does the job.

Dan, Hi, not knowing the Antivirus product you use, but I had a similar issue after a virus signature update, which then thought that the G.A.O.T.D wrapper was suspicious and blocked without saying it had, so the process collapsed/ crashed. I certainly don't recommend turning Virus protection off, rather return to window's defender and firewall temporarily as a basic cover, and try again just to eliminate this. Hope this helps.

Andy,
Thank you for your suggestion. Whatever the issue is, it is definitely on the GAOTD side of things. I downloaded the installer directly from AV Video Morpher and had no problem installing. Because I still followed instructions to activate I was able to register the program. So it only worked because I downloaded original installer.
In case anyone else has that issue, Andy's idea of temporarily deactivating antivirus is a good idea to try.

Dan, as a Kaspersky user i know many times i have to disable it or the software will not install or i get an install error when i temp suspend it it works fine my guess is the wrapper they use

Dan, No problem, glad you found a solution, let's hope you like the software now... Looking forward to Tomorrow's offering, Andy.

Installed and running on Win 10 64bit, I believe not everyone on win 10 is lucky to get this software running. I am not in anyway 'tech savvy', I left school before the 1st home pc was born. I do however note that certain aspects of the software may need .net 2.0 (funny Space facility refers to it) which by default is turned off in win 10, unless an installed software required it when upgrading the o.s. You can however enable it in windows (Turn windows features on and off, select .net 3 which includes v 2). This may have absolutely nothing to do with the compatibility issue on this occasion, I am no expert at all. More of a wild guess which may help someone at a later date on an unrelated matter, in which case it was worth typing up. Keep up the great work, I visit the sight daily.

Annoying setup impossible to achieve. PDF said to go to a certain Web site to get the serial number. That link took me to a site which advertised another product called Voice Changer. No serial number available.
I can see why a publisher will require a valid email in exchange for softwares but I sure don't see why these publishers make it impossible to activate such software.
Uninstalled with Revo Pro. Good riddance.

I've been able to install it on Windows 10 but been waiting over an hour for the activation code.

Sesqui, Hi, It is shown at the bottom of the web page, it doesn't appear to be emailed also. If you scroll down hopefully it is there for you. Hope this helps.

Andy, thanks. Got the code now by requesting it again. However, now it tells me it's just a trial version valid for 7 days and I need a serial number?!

UPDATE: I've now managed to get the serial number and click Activate Full Version rather than Submit. It pays to I've read the instructions! :)

Installed on Win 10 64, activated, ran the program, everything is working fine so far. If you want to open mp4 files in the "Open" window change file types from "All Media Files" to "All Files (*.*)", although it's a kind of strange that it doesn't show mp4 files by default.

After install and activate without problem (windows 10 64 bits) the program start and crash immediatly.
Reboot computer- same problem.
Uninstall and clean registry (355 occurences left in registry after uninstall) reinstall using the version of the web site AVsoft Corp : same problem.
Definitively uninstall and clean again registry. Maybe some people will have better chance than me.

Detenova,
The program is compatible with Windows XP/ Vista/ 7/ 8 (32-bit & 64-bit), not Windows 10. Please see above System Requirement.

Jes, you are right. I din't see.
It will be good that program checks the version you are using and say that it cannot install on windows 10. Better solution : doing a version working on windows 10.

Pass.

A digitally signed driver is required
dvdmmg64.sys
Windows blocked the installation of a digitally unsigned
driver. Uninstall the program or device that uses the driver
and check the publisher's website for a digitally signed
version of the driver.

I googled the driver and got hits on GOTD's Forum. This happened 3+ years ago and still no signed driver.

Chris, I got the same message but tried to activate it anyway... then I got the activation code was invalid...
I'm running win 8.1

jane, Hi, I found that you don't click the activate button, and enter the code, you click the bottom left button instead (can't remember the exact wording but it is opposite the 'buy' button) where it asks for name, email and the serial no. from the web page.Hope this helps..
Save | Cancel
jane, I'm running win 8.1 also. I've Just followed the pdf instruction, don't paste the code to "activation code" and click on "submit" in the first "activation window" (I believe its for the one who actually paid for the software). Just click on "activate full version", the the second window with "update to full version" will show up. Filled in the "First+Last Name", "Email", and "Serial Number" (I have to get the code from their webpage). Done! Registered to the full version!

Chris,
"A digitally signed driver is required dvdmmg64.sys"
Hmmm.... Running the GOTD download in a win7 32 bit VM, no mention or installation of anything like this. Downloaded the trial version -- the setup file in the GOTD wrapper is locked/blocked -- used Universal Extractor on the NSIS installer file, & there is a Additional files\ $TEMP\ folder with dvdmmg.sys, dvdmmg.vxd, &WizeSupp.dll. The only .nsi script in the extracted folder however does not show more than extracting those 3 files to that $TEMP folder. Google on the file names & just get a bunch of hits where people asked what are these files, & no real response.

Chris,
If they have not updated the driver (or gotten a signed version) in 3 years - - - there is no way I'm going to risk installing this antique!
No wonder it will not work with Windows 10.
Thank you for your research on this issue, you have most likely saved me a great deal of grief!
