I don't often participate in the sweepstakes, usually go for the normal giveaways. But when I saw this one, being a Ashampoo Snap user since V4 and currently owning 12/running trial of 14 I had to try.

Are you looking for a great screenshot/recording program then this is your best choice. Just don't use it for game capturing (I would say OBS is the software to use then) They can be a little annoying with the program start up pop ups pushing their other programs but I like Snap enough to tolerate it.... for now (please Ashampoo, stop the pop ups, respect your customers a bit more. even mobile apps quit their advertisement bullcrap after you paid)

Many video screen capture apps use the ffmpeg code libraries because they don't cost anything. Ffmpeg is not designed for screen capture.

Ashampoo Snap is somewhat unique, allowing you to use whatever video codecs you have installed to screen capture video. A codec is the software that compresses the video so it can be written to your hard disk, and you can find several, free & paid, at videohelp[.]com. A codec also determines the format of the video, e.g., mpg2 or AVC. This matters because some formats are better for editing, some are faster than others -- you need something fast for video capture so the capture doesn't get behind -- and you need to compress the video enough, reducing the amount of data that your PC/laptop writes to your hard disk, so that writing that data can keep up with the constant flow of the data stream.Some codecs require more CPU horsepower than others, so what will work on a higher end PC may be too slow on lower end hardware. Some codecs also use your GPU, which can help. [Note: you don't want to install every codec out there -- just the ones you use -- because too many, e.g. installing a codec pack, can lead to compatibility problems.]

FWIW, I pre-ordered / bought Snap 14, because I really do believe it's one of the best.
