Will this software operate to read and write PDFs if Adobe Acrobat Reader is removed? Some of us don't need a lot of extra tools beyond that but do want to be rid of Reader.

From the last Giveaway, I've used it to 'batch' PDF's and I'm happy with it.

For some reason, none of the pdf offers ever has the following needed features:
- extracting selected pages to make a new pdf
- inserting pages where wanted, from another pdf
- adding text fields where we want them
In other words, nothing is ever as useful as Acrobat.
Pity.

glnz, The other desperately needed features, not even available easily in Acrobat (but possible by jumping through many hoops), would be splitting those pdf files where every page is a double page scan into single page files, and the even harder one to do - resize a pdf! If one is made from HD scans and you want to shrink the resolution of the whole document, even Acrobat makes it nigh-impossible.

Sorry to piggyback on your post, but it may be better to keep these ideas in one place.

glnz,
I bought FlexiPDF Pro a while back on some sale. These are what I see in the menus:
- Extract selected page range into a new PDF (original unchanged). Also Split document into PDFs of a specified size.
- Insert pages (new, from document, from scanner), IIRC it inserts before or after the selected page. Then if not all are to your liking, you can use the Reorder menu item, or copy-paste (or drag, I forget) within the thumbnail view (that's what I do).
- adding text fields - I have no idea if it's there, it's not obvious to me, but I'm just a very casual user, mostly I just use the program to merge/split/rearrange pages. I see in the manual a lot about text, like add new, edit existing, edit over columns and pages, text fitting, flow text around shapes, rebuild a text box, merge/split text boxes, edit tables. It looks to me that it works on the premise of text boxes, and that's what I see when I select the text icon ("T") and select text. It highlights a big surrounding text box, with a total of 3 text boxes on the page I'm looking at. I'm stating all this because I'm ignorant of altering text in PDFs, maybe you'll be able to deduce something from this?

I have nothing to do with that company, just a user.

glnz, if you have PDF virtual printer and a compitent PDF viewer and the PDF allows printing you should be able to specify the pages to print to a new PDF file now!

You guys may want to peek at Foxit. You can open a document and delete and add pages then save it with a new name. They also have a full array of objects to modify pages. I have not tried to reorder pages but there is a copy/paste feature.

I keep mentioning this in the hopes that vendors offering PDF tools on GOTD will ascent to compete with FREE Adobe Acrobat Pro:

Adobe Acrobat Pro is available FREE - web search for it form Adobe directly ( they released licenses for last full version before monthly subscriptions ), it has OCR, page cropping, deletion, reordering, inserting, and file size reduction ( plus forms and editing and all that content-stuff ).

The nicest thing about Adobe OCR is that the recognized text is behind the image of the original text, so the document looks unaltered, but we can highlight and copy whatever text we see regardless of original font and size.

And yes, it can reduce image resolution to any dpi, so large scans and documents can become quite small.

What I want is ACCURATE PDF content conversion to reflowable EPUB.

Anyone?

The program will not install. When I double click the installer it goes straight to activation without installing the program. Please help.

Bill Strobel, try unpacking the files into a specific folder on a drive. it helped me. Also, antivirus might interfere with the wrapper.

Bill Strobel, try reading the readme.txt to the end. If as I suspect the zip includes a themidia protected setup.exe/setup.gcd pair of files you will find your answer in the readme.txt !

Terribly limited product. Its input seems to almost solely be .jpg documents! e.g., when trying to OCR from a scanned document, the only format it accepts is .jpg! When trying to create a new PDF, one has to either type, cut and paste, or upload a .jpg document, and then the software will try to create a PDF from it. Sort of weird. Perhaps useful for photographers, or smartphone pictures of a page or ad that you want to OCR? Not sure it is worth keeping, because the controls, features, and options are so limited. It did install fine in Win10 x64 HP.

Looks promising but can you easily rearrange pages?

Does it work with non-Latin scripts such as Indic, Arabic.

Raymond Doctor, if your system is configured to use those languages then you'd be far more qualified than the vast majority of readers of this page to test and answer that question! Hence your comment being flagged as not useful. As should mine be since I add no further infoormation either.
