At a glance, the things I like is that the program allows me to change the holidays from American Holidays to the holidays where you live. Also so far, the time zones allow for differences, for example, Saskatchewan in Canada is the same time zone right now as Manitoba, Canada. I would have to wait until daylight savings time change to see if this changes because Saskatchewan does not change it's time.

I thought of uses for this application:
- good for procrastinators, like me, to remind how little time they have left to get the job done!
- for anyone attending school or university where projects/essays are due
- craft projects... you could enter your start time and when completed your end time to calculate how long it took you to make them.
- parents... who make things for their kids for christmas, etc.
- if you were going to build a house, garage, etc. scheduling when deliveries and contractors should be there. (I know a person who does this type of thing for a very large company and they write in their contracts timings and penalties if they are late delivering, etc.) When she is dealing with a very large project this is extremely important as timing is everything but some of this could be used for personal use in such endeavours as well.
- countdown for vacations and vacation planning.

I don't have such plans right now to test this out but will when I start a new one to see how it works out.

I am underwhelmed. This is almost totally worthless!

At first, I was excited about using this, especially after reading someone's review that said they could use this to help with college assignments. Heh, it doesn't "remind" you of anything! It just calculates the difference between two dates! Or, give it a duration, like 30 days, and it will tell you what the date will be in 30 days. Heck, I can figure that out myself, thank you very much. Thirty days from today? That would be February 7. Oh, you want to know 60 days from today? That would be March 8 (leap year). Whoopee!

The only feature that I like slightly is the world clock because I do business globally. Still, this feature is marginal at best. Sure, you can pick locations and it will display the time at each location in a text box. A text box! And you have to open the program to see it! How about giving a nice interface at least!? Something that could display on your desktop!

I'll definitely be uninstalling this one.

A simple program for amateur radio. When talking with a foreign country a ham radio operator wants to pull out several facts quickly - the facts include the name of the country in contact with (from the call sign), location (latitude and longitude), and the country’s local time. Many programs give quick access to the first two facts but usually the time zone is difficult to read. Properly configured in advance, "Timestimator", could be helpful in determining the local time for the foreign station.

I would like to see an expanded configuration menu to bring up a country's data. An example would be: start typing the country's name with a program that has word completion and the program would start to list all of the time zones in a given country. After typing a few letters, in the case of many countries, word completion would allow one to stop before typing in the country's full name. All time zones for the country need to be displayed with major cities associated with them.

A program such as "timestimator" should give a graphical choice of countries, continents, etc. that bring up the time data upon the click of a mouse. Times should indicate "standard" and "daylight savings" times. This program apparently assumes that you know this information. Daylight savings time is not universally implemented on the same date.

In amateur radio we have freeware programs much more sophisticated and with better interfaces. I have used "Timestimator" for several hours today while on the air. I have entered the time zones for several countries while I talked with them. A glaring poor feature in this program is having to switch back and forth between screens "Time Zones" and "World Clock".

"Timestimator" has many more short-comings. One short-coming that I find inexcusable for a contemporary Time program is for a program to display the current time as it is taken from the system's clock. The program should get its time information from one of the atomic clocks that we use to standardize all of our time functions. Data from an atomic clock should set the system clock. When working with propagation beacons, being off two seconds means you are unable to identify the beacon being heard. The program is not suitable for satellite communication work for reasons given above.

In summary, the opinion of a ham radio operator with 45-years of experience working with world times zones and radio communications, is that the program needs much more work. Amateur radio operators will not pay $20 for this program. Most of us will not pay any amount for a "time" program unless the program is an interface to a grand communications program. I am not going to un-install the program yet. I want to use it more to see just what its got under the hood. With work "Timestimator" could be useful.

Evercyber, I do consulting work for HF (high frequency) radio wave propagation nowcasting and forecasting. I and others that also work in this technical area could help you considerably with your program. In 30-minutes you could pick-up much of what it would take to make your program fly.

Sorry, but a nonexistant price tag doesn't improve anything. If you don't want people to say that they think that this is pointless, give them uses for it. It makes you 100% more credible.

In BladeThoh's "FINAL VERDICT" he states that this is a "30 day trial only". Did I read this right or was he referring to the program if downloaded from the owners web site?

I thought GAOTHD was going to offer only full functioning software with NO TIME LIMITS.

On the other hand I'm glad that GAOTD is offering some commercial software.

For those of you who don't seem to comprehend, the "D" in GAOTD means "DAY". That means that there will be a Software Giveaway every DAY! Obviously all offerings will not be suitable for everybody. Check it daily; try what interests you; keep or delete it, but STOP slamming GAOTD because a particular piece of FREE software doesn't match your exact needs. If your requirements for software are so exacting, show them (Software developers) the money and they will be glad to tailor it to suit you.
In the meantime, spread the word, get all five of your friends and close associates to join the GAOTD community.

Having read what has been said up till now I am persuaded that this product, although it may be satisfactory, will only be of use to a very few people.
It seems that the so-called 'noise' mentioned two days ago continues.

Again there are those people who can't read.....' Strictly personal usage'!
WE need more business oriented stuff like this' according to 24# then tells us about the ..... weather.
Do not recollect a spokesman being elected to speak for us all!
I for one do not need more 'business stuff'.

Thanks GAOTD but I will give this one a miss.

Yes another and more mature alternative is Wordtime v6.0.0.941 at http://www.pawprint.net/wt/. That one is a very extensive world time and info. keeper including a globus and city locations adjustable and with distance calculations also. Worldwide coverage by interactive globus, stopwatch, countdown timer, atomic time sync, simple alarmlist and more. The only problem is that it is not developed, but only supported.

Thank you german)werwölfchen and Bob at #23 for giving me calendar PIMs - I've been looking for a small, simple and flexible calendar PIM for some time. They both look very promising.

It is IMPORTANT that the developer(s) of an application follow up to exploit the full potential of what programcode can do today! WE NEED ALOT MORE GOOD PROGRAMS TO MAKE IT PAY TO USE PCs WITH ALL THE EXTRA EXPENSES THAT THEY BRING INSTEAD OF JUST USING PAPER AND PENCIL.

Keep it up!

The whole 'no commercial use' restriction is a bit dumb anyway, in my opinion. If I were a software developer, I'd really, really want people downloading my software and trying it out in their business. If it really does meet a need, then I'm guessing that people will buy it and getting it through the door and onto machines is the only way to build that word of mouth.

That said, I'd still have the restriction in there, because when I find that a whole company of ten thousand employees is running my little piece of software, I'd want the right to say 'Oi! You! NO!' and collect the fees that they owe me. But the people who pick it up on a one day giveaway and find it useful enough to keep on using are the people who are going to do my marketing for me. More power to them, IMO.

This program does a great job of it's primary goals; that is, to aid in organization. It has a myriad of handy features for organization; The world clock tool, ability to set due dates, and a great feature to calculate days from and between set times. These features are certainly handy for people who are unorganized (like me), are obsessed with organization, or use it contradictorily to Terms of Service rule #3: Strictly personal usage. Using it for the described "[...]Lease apartments? Are engaged in supply chain management? Manage warehouses?" is ironically contradicting the rules set by GOTD. That is not to say this program has no personal use potential, it's just that someone in business will get more use out of it than someone using it for personal reasons.

But enough nitpicking about the commercial nature of this program. The program itself is decent, and gets the job done. It's not the prettiest interface ever, and could probably look a little more aesthtically pleasing and intuitive to navigate through. Everything is simple enough to use - this program is pitched as an organization type of program; and it does well at that. But like a few other people have said - why exactly does the program offer a near-useless tray icon mode? Surely they could have let it remind you of upcoming reminders and whatnot, but the only purpose it serves, far from being useful, is to use several MB of RAM running in the background. Why on earth is it using so much system resources?; considering it is essentially like the minimized taskbar tab, only now a whole lot smaller.

The feature such as holiday and day-exclusion options would certainly come in handy for those who really need it. Overall I think it's a decent program for free, but I wouldn't recommend $19 for this in it's current state. Admittedly, this is one of those giveaways which doesn't appeal to many people; but tomorrow's a new giveaway.

So if you're looking for an organization-based program, then give it a try; it's a tiny download at under 2MB, installs and activates without a hitch.

Like someone else said: time will tell whether you end up religiously using this program and wonder how you ever lived without it, or forgot about it until one day when you decided to uninstall all the programs you never use; but hey, at least you tried it. I myself am going to give it a little more time, but to be honest, this is one of those giveaways I think will end up in my computer's proverbial recycle bin - I never did bother organizing myself much.

@ 16: I really appreciate GOTD supplying free software , that said, people can still voice their opinions on it (so long as it's at least logical and reasonable) - it helps people contemplating the download decide whether to borrow. I know that before I click download, I scan the comments for what people say abut it. If people have genuine complains about the software, that's fair enough. "Free Software!" is no reason to worship said software. If hypothetically someone handed out "Free rubbish!", the fact that it's free doesn't change the fact that it's rubbish -- I'm not saying this program is rubbish; I'm saying that the cost factor does not affect or influence the quality of the program.

@ 24: Congratulations on finding a use for this software. Problem is that you're technically violating the terms of use policy, which states you cannot use the program for commercial (business) purposes. GOTD does not need more business software, because, as the category implies, it's for business - which contradicts the use of the program.

Thanks for the software GOTD. Good luck everyone for 2008.

TypoDave, NO 16 I know it looks ungrateful, but is it not useful for those that download the software and try it to comment. Those comments might be bad or good, they are what they are. At least it helps others understand some aspects of the software on offer. I can see my posting is not much better, but I found the software useful to keep track of my bookings (carpet Cleaning). I have only entered in some dates for service so far, but looks cool.
I like you love GOTD. I told them so yesterday, didnt you make a post.
Your posting wasted your time and mine and many others reading it as all it did was whine about other peoples postings. How ironic>>>>. Try and comment on the software as the "ungrateful" ones before you have.

I am immediately in love with this program! the amount of world clocks I can set is amazing. Wonderful. The Ui is smooth and simple. Nothing complicated, which to me is perfect. I can set any time or date I want, and that counts for a lot. no bugs as far as I could see. it does not slow down my system by being in the system tray ( of course it uses power.... everything does) and one could always turn it off for a while.
win xp, sp2.

I am sure, there are a lot of applications for that program without commercial character. Have a breakfast in Paris, beeing back for lunch in Boston and next day visit a friend in New Zeeland while in the meantime planning your springtime holidays.

If you are that rich that you probably have a secretary, a manager or a butler to keep track of your schedules then you might find some non commercial application for this.

Internet can be slow, so a program to quickly look up timezones etc can be useful. So I tested this, and it isn't well designed. In the preferences, you can't select a base-location, meaning if you want to quickly know the time-somewhere, you will calculate the difference between acre state, brazil and whereveer you select instead of your location and whatever you select.

Selecting is also very awkward, because instead of the standard country, city arrangement it uses city, country, so if you want to know the time in a country, it can take you some time to look for it.

I don't want to be rude, but this program is really simplistic for a comercial software. One thing I don't understand is why would someone want it in the system tray (it is supposed that an application that resides in the system tray executes additional tasks while it is active, not the case for this program).
Consider from the program description only the first phrase:

Timestimator calculates due dates, durations and provides you with a perpetual calendar with convenient navigation abilities and customizable worldclock list.
The rest is just a mumbo-jumbo, trying to find an use for the program.

Handy, but in most cases the input will need to be copied from an Excel sheet, and the output will have to be typed in the same or another spreadsheet. If that is the case, it is easier to use the powerful time and date functions of Excel or its clones. Of course you will have to programme these formulas once, but it saves you all extra typing in future. Not to mention lessening the probability of typing errors.

Installed and tried.

The "timezones function" is very useful.

I will check if other users recommend other programs, as freeware.

The PowerPro program does not convince me (maybe its due also to the bad design of the webpage itself), its design looks like a "Windows 95" program. I would like if it were otherwise.

The interface here is more usable than timeanddate.com plus this has the added convenience of being one click away in the system tray. The downside is that it sits in the system tray sucking 8.7 meg of ram. For world clocks, I currently use the iGoogle widget. This one may or may not be a keeper. time will tell.
