For restore possibility of changing Mozilla Firefox start page you can do next two variants:

Install fixed StarBurn form http://www.rocketdivision.com/downloads/StarBurnSetup.exe with selected check box "Make Rocket Division homepage your default page" and after that you can change Mozilla Firefox start page from Firefox browser settings.

Or you can do next:

Delete file user.js from path
"[Drive]:\Documents and Settings\[UserName]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\[SomeChars].default\user.js"

Path Example:
"C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\5kgurte6.default\user.js"

A thousand apologies for this bug!

P.S.
All suffered from this bug, please write to info@rocketdivision.com with subject "StarBurn GAOTD Firefox star page bug".
For you prepared a special offer!

I installed it. Had problems with my machine (may not have been this software) -- so I uninstalled it a day or so later... My absolute biggest gripe is that it changed my start page. I know how to change my own start page, duh, but even though the software is *unistalled* it isn't allowing me to change it back. Their page always comes back. I am going to try the fix listed above at http://righthandbits.blogspot.com/2008/01/fix-for-hijacked-firefox-homepage.html and sure hope it works because this is ridiculous and probably enough for me to just stop with the free software give aways - not worth the hassle at this point.

It seems like other low and dirty software companies have done similar things in the past using the user.js file that overrides the default Firefox settings and I was able to find info on how those were fixed - knowing that, here is how to fix it:

1. Close any open FireFox windows
2. Using Windows Explorer, go to
C:\Documents and Settings\ (user name) \Application
Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\(random letters) .default
3. Open the “User.js” file in notepad.
4. Delete the line that reads:
user_pref(browser.startup.homepage, http://www.rocketdivision.com);
5. Save and close the document, then restart FireFox
6. Surf to the page you want as your homepage.
7. Click on Tools then select Options from the drop down menu
8. In the General Screen, there will be a section titled “Home
Page”. From here, click the “Use Current Page” button to set your
homepage.

Downloaded and ran the program. or tried to. After the first time trying to run it would only say that StarBurnShark encountered a problem and had to close. Offering to send a report to Microsoft. Cannot get it to load again. I would really like to see this project again and be able to get the whole thing to work. It does look like it would be good.

Biff I don't know whether you managed to sort your home page out. If not, simply right click on your firefox browser icon and choose internet properties (or preferences if that option doesn't show). You will (or should) be presented with the internet properties window. Select the general tab (which is normally the default tab) and type in whatever your home page normally is, click on apply and okay. That's it.

When installing the program there was a preferences window that popped up that enabled you to de select the opton.

I know that they are wrong in doing it the way they did as I'm sure others had the same problem. Still if you know how, it's easily remidied.

I hope I was of some help.

Read the install choices slower.

Although changing my start page is ok and a little circa 1990s but allow the person to keep the ability to change it back.

I Installed StarBurnShark 9.5 and now their web site www.rocketdivision.com keeps coming up as my Firefox start page.

And I Can't seem to get it to stop.

I did go to tools/options/main but the change would not stick.

HELP, It is driving me nuts.

I hate it when some one or some company changes my computer and starts rearranging it to a way they like it. And now I can't seem to get it to go back and stick.

I tried calling Rocket divison but got a strange voice mail.

Also i realize that the software is free for the day with no tec support. I'm not asking about the soft ware just an un-asked un-granted,un-related computer change. That they made on their own that has nothing to do with their program just advertising.

If they want to advertise on my computer we can work something out. I'm flexible when it comes to cash.

Still puzzled by the price of Starburn, I visitied Rochet Division's website, using GAOTD's link. I got at an orderingchart, for Starburn Shark Commercial, at $ 495. Frim the link marked by a blloon with "i" this seems to be including Starwind.
Going to their Products page nothing can be found about Starburn Shark or any bundle with Starwind.

But most strange of all: Starburn is offered there as a Free download!

Still confused? I am.

IMO not the best way for advertising a product.
And no, I'm not the only one who can't make StarBurn to work on w2k/SP4. No member from the freeware site I'm registered can.

As far as the Homepage "hijacking"

It's not HIJACKING when they give you the option NOT to have your homepage reset.

OPEN YOUR EYES ON THE INSTALL....FOR ALL APPLICATIONS. DON'T JUST BLINDLY HIT "YES", "I ACCEPT", etc

Even CCleaner installs the Yahoo toolbar by default, unless you UNcheck the box.

Lamers.

Hello All,
Great program - functionality, simplicity, beauty :)
But i have problem with FireFox too :( I think it's mozilla bug.
StarBurn add file user.js with homepage settings, but firefox can't change this settings any more. After install StarBurn I simply delete
file
"C:\Documents and Settings\Administrtator\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\8mjfgwx6.default\user.js" and this work!

Thank you GAOTD for your work!

Ref #126 - A huge thank you for the solution to resetting the Homepage. I may have been stupid in hastily installing software without reading properly and will learn from this. To all those people who kept on saying "Go to Options and set the home page to default" or whatever, thanks for nothing!! Don't you think that it the first thing we would have tried! Also, to rocket division it is one thing to change the homepage and completely another thing to stop it easily being changed back! Shame on you, BUT the program itself works great! Swings and roundabouts I suppose.

Ref #135 Bubby:- COME OFF IT! These are serious statements about the Company 'Rocket' and the Software and very relevant to any one about to download the package. It seems that you would prefer this HOME PAGE problem to be downgraded to the 'back' page.

Also seems that GAOTD has changed the comments on the subject from DAVE #98 to #95 which is confusing for readers. Why is this?

Finally, regarding the comments re 'people who don't or cannot read.

Wise up!

Of course we did read the instructions and saw the check box.
The point is that we are entitled to have freedom to change the Home Page to our personal preferences even after having tried ROCKET and not have ROCKET HOME PAGE block our machines for all time.
Can we hope to have some comments from Rocket Division ?

Just remember this program will not compress the copied ISO therefore it will not copy DVD's without a separate compression program. If you wish to just copy your movie's then leave this alone. I have uninstalled, "does not do what it says on the tin".

Forgive me. That websites right-hand AD appeared after un-clicking my Browser's AD-Filter, and Refreshing the page :-) Go figure, huh?

What's a "super-trooper" there, anyway? No malice intended, from here.
..........
Installed Rocket just fine, and no Homepage theft occured by opting out at program installation. Using Maxthon Browser (aka IE7) which confirmed "blank" is set there.

Rocket, that's a very good GUI!! Especially for older eyes, and aestheticly pleasing, in content arrangement and functionality. Amazing feature set, without all the "silliness" of Nero. You've got my $$$ at re-format time! Tanx, again, GOTD.

Here is my statement on this Rocket Division software. It is dangerous! Like Dave #97 & #106, I've been in the business for 20 odd years. Earlier today I had a call from a newbie who'd installed this Rocket Division software on his PC. He saw no reason why he shouldn't trust the Wizard - which offered to put Rocket Division as his new home page (I'd recently taught him how he could easily and safely swap and change this in Firefox). However, Tools>Options>Main> offers no solution to the problem Rocket Division and GAOTD has set at our feet. I've got him to remove and re-install Firefox, clear the cache, cookies, temporary internet files and run two different spyware programs + Hijack. No spyware was found and - after several hours of working on it - the problem persists. Tomorrow I will try talking him through adjustments in Safe Mode (fingers crossed). But where is the guidance from Rocket Division and GAOTD at this critical time?

I'm not clear what "noise" BuBBy is referring to but I am grateful for certain so-called "noise" i.e. statements about this software that has alerted me to the drawbacks of installing it. Long may tolerance and free speech continue on this page of GAOTD.

Your solution to the homepage problem did not work for me, but it did point in the right direction. If someone else has that problem, you should also look in the prefs.js file as well as any .js file in the chrome directory.

BAD ROCKETDIVISION BAD...... go sit on your mousepad til we say you can get off.

Sorry, BuBBy, but I have to agree with several others who stated quite correctly that if there are technical problems with a particular product that are going to cause trouble for people, those issues NEED to be listed HERE in the comments section.

I don’t lurk in the forums, and I don’t feel the need to search them for basic (BUT IMPORTANT) info that will help me decide whether to take a chance on a given product offered for only one day. I agree that topics unrelated to the product itself should be taken to the forums, but today’s issues and questions regarding hijaacking web browsers and deactivating other competing products most definitely belong RIGHT HERE where I and everyone else can see them BEFORE making the decision to download and install the product.

I can tell you right now that I was very excited by today’s offering, but when I hear others claiming that this product messes around with other software I may have installed that puts up a HUGE red flag. Since nobody has been able to answer the repeated question of whether Starburn “knocks out” Roxio, Nero, and potentially other products I have no choice but to take a pass on it … It’s not worth the risk and aggravation to take a chance on it unless I hear conclusively that I have nothing to worry about.

I suspect most other GAOTD regulars would agree with me.

Regards,
Steve
