I downloaded installed and registered as required by giveawayoftheday. When I tried to use it, I was told it was the trial version and did only a partail conversion.

I don't get it. It says "We are sorry, but the giveaway period has already expired for this software. Free installation of this software is not possible. However, you can still purchase this software from the manufacturer and/or check out our website giveawayoftheday.com for new giveaway titles." I was looking forward to trying this program so it's a real bummer that it is not working.

The error is this.
The DEFAULT output for some strange reason is to D drive,
That will mostly be the CD.
Change the default output to another location and all should be cool.
Very flaky software.
Sorry Plato

Those of you looking for a converter from YouTube FLV to any other media might want to check-out the program that was available November 22, Wondershare Youtube Downloader. I have been using it, and it can convert YouTube video to any other format, and download multiple videos at one time.

If you missed it on the 22nd, they have a trial version on their website:

I don't know WTF is wrong with http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html

I have not had as much trouble starting a download in 13 years of internet usage, or 20 years of internet usage and running a BBS.

There is something very wrong with a site that not only gives you this much trouble to download, but actually has a detailed help page explaining all the different settings you need to set on your browser, and what you need to clear, in order to download that.

As I said, something very strange and wrong there, and I wouldn't let that POS touch my computer now if you paid me.

If you need to convert flv to a different type of video format, use KMPlayer and use the capture function it has. Retains exact, sometimes better, quality and saves it as a certain compression of your choice (, AVI, ASF, MP4, MOV, PSP, 3GP, MPEG-1/2 (All types), MKV and OGM.) Also does sound with MP3, OGG, AAC (Raw and Encoded), Mp4 and WMA.

Their site is at... http://www.kmplayer.com/forums/index.php

Their download is at http://www.download.com/The-KMPlayer/3000-2139_4-10659940.html?tag=lst-0-1

You can edit that file to change the settings:

**YES you can upload ANY video format (even flash) for YouTube,
depending on length and size...

..however, the 'quality' of the 'flash to flash' conversion
will be a tad off I have noticed...

Is Plato still a active company? They don't have any kind of support, email links are obsolute and and the ones that do bounces. I've got their Plato DVD Copy and cannot get a response out of them. I'm avoiding any of their stuff. Anyone have a different experience?

What makes converters FROM FLV to DVD or other formats so rare and expensive? Why doesn't Plato include that capacity in this converter? It must require a much more complex engine.

I installed this on Windows Vista with no difficulty. I did an experiment in converting WMV files to FLV, using both Plato and SUPER (which is mentioned in #8). The average files from SUPER were 43% smaller than Plato's. On the other hand, Plato's conversion gave sharper images and fewer artifacts. In one of the conversions, the Plato video was totally out of sync with the audio.

I was trying to convert some .mov files to .flv the other day because my vlc media player doesn't seem to display .mov files very well--sometimes OK, sometimes blank screen. Just mentioned this since many seem to find the concept of converting to .flv of no value.

While YouTube can serve the same purpose the upload can be extremely long and use bandwidth I need for other applications. So I'm happy to have a converter on my computer instead of over the internet. Hopefully, it won't take as long as YouTube either.

Who would ever want to use a Plato product. I installed the Plato DVD Copy program some weeks ago during the free offer, and after a melt down of my Windows system, I could not reinstall it back. Have not had any problems with the GOTD program ABF Outlook Express backup program. Just as long as you save the registration key.

This program is much easier to use than the opensource converters I have tried. It did a great job with the MPG to FLV conversions. And it was really fast which was great!

I also tried converting WMV files to FLV and the program did so, but in the resulting FLVs the audio was out of sync with the video. Also during the WMV conversions the CPU was consistently maxed out jumping from around 95% to 100%. I used the default settings but perhaps that wasn't right?

All-in-all I like this program. I just wish the WMV conversions worked better.

An FLV editor would be great though...

#16, Wrong. YouTube actually does accept .flv files. It has some of mine anyways. My concern is if next YouTube converts the .flv to another .flv based on their own settings. If so the publishers of Plato Video to FLV Converter are utterly ridiculous for even mentioning YouTube.

Anyone who has studied compression for UTube knows that the site is strange to post to so if this does as it says " Give professional results" UTube converts already compressed files made with Flash Video Converter. I'll give it a TRY, ThanX GOATD.

Another free site to convert video to FLV:

Lots of other converters for most instances as well...

Who would really want to convert to flv? Its useless.

If you want the opposite program go for Moyea FLV to Video Converter. The trial converts the full video however it leaves a slight watermark. Not a real problem though.

actually, this is exactly the sort of program many people need. not everyone uploads to YouTube or other video hosting sites. i use .flv exclusively on a number of blogs/site i either own or manage. right now, i mostly use Adobe Flash Encoder, but i do have Super and i also use zamzar.com. what would be great is an .flv editing program as someone else mentioned.

They've marketed this product badly. If you want to place video on your website, then flv is the way to go.

Most pro users would use On2 products, but Riva has a good tried and trusted free flv converter.

Confusing everyone by dropping YouTube in the description is misleading as YT don't even accept flv format. That's what they convert it to themselves.

I will download it and check out the conversion quality, but I'm not holding my breath.

If you want to upload high quality videos, YouTube specifically recommends that you upload in Divx / Xvid, so honestly, it would be rather stupid to convert it to flv!
http://www.google.com/support/youtube/bin/answer.py?answer=55745&topic=10526

@#8 - Yes, the free Super converts video to a lot of formats including to Flv. However, I had problems with the Timeline feature in Build 22 and 23; so if you intend to use that feature, you should download the no. 21 build.

I guess the claim is this program converts files sent to YouTube better as YouTube itself. And that YouTube accepts send flv's as is. If true that could be a possible good feature but somehow I dare doubt it.

I have interest in online video website but this application really make me dispointed.
I need a command line version, so that I needn't have to convert the video by myself,
and I need something can generate flv player like youtube flash video player. Have a look at this video to flash video encoder, it can do these things, but pity (it is not free) and is not command line version, either.

I think this application needs further improvement.

-No Drag&Drop
-There's an error in the interface: there's something weird behind the "start" button.
-Profiles are wrong: YouTube videos use 320x240 344kbps - mono/64kbps (max)
-Supports FLV1 only which is an obsolete codec and thus you get bigger files with poorer quality.
-Support for MP3 audio only.
-Audio doesn't play in the preview for some reason.
-The help file is for a different product. (I guess it's supposed to advertise other software from the same company)

Basically, it does what it says but I don't understand why they use youtube's name other than for publicity purposes.
No one should encode to FLV unless strictly necessary. DivX, Xvid and H.264 achieve much better quality.
Anyway, there's free alternatives that in my opinion are better and support multiple output formats:
Avidemux
http://www.avidemux.org/
Super:
http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html
Media Coder:
http://mediacoder.sourceforge.net/

...should also add that Youtube 'automatically' converts any-type file TO flash for account sends/uploads, as ALL videos on Youtube 'are' in the .flv format

AGREED that we truly need a .flv editing program someday!

http://www.aimersoft.com/video-converter.html
And as I know some free video converter like SUPER Videora may also can do this job
http://www.erightsoft.com/SUPER.html
