Simple and intuitive backup software for Windows!

SmartWhois is a useful network information utility that allows you to find out all available information about an IP address, host name, or domain, including country, state or province, city, name of the network provider, administrator and technical support contact information.

Unlike standard Whois utilities, SmartWhois can find the information about a computer located in any part of the world, intelligently querying the right database and delivering all the related records within a few seconds. The program can retrieve information from more than 20 servers all over the world.

SmartWhois can save obtained information to an archive file. Users can load this archive the next time the program is launched and add more information to it. This feature allows you to build and maintain your own database of IP addresses and host names. You can also load a list of IP addresses as a text file and have SmartWhois process the whole list.

smartwhois is a whois look-up. Enter a name. Click. And that's it. dnsstuff mentioned here doesn't provide the same amount of whois info. Bluetack isn't a one-click whois look-up either.

Be good if posters could try to compare like with like. Thank Gawd for Charlie's post: do a look-up in smartwhois, then do a whois look up in domaintools.com.

The difference is. . . $29.

First, thank you for the work that is done here. I will be spreading the word, and in fact the word has been spread via our blog.
This program does work as far as getting some contact info for a particular addy, however I found it to be a bit to simplified for my taste. There is a program called Sam Spade that gets much more involved as far as network identity, and most firewalls, (free or paid for), also get much more in depth with the information, and suggestions.
But if you are just looking for a simple id, this program will work for you.

Don't forget you can go to www.dnsstuff.com for tons more info then this proggie gives ya. Sorry mate, but do check out the link for some REAL IP info. And it's FREE too!

I tried the shareware before and I liked the program. Now I got it for free - that´s fine!

Hmm, $29 for this?? I installed it to check it out, but honestly a company that charges for such a simple service that is readily available (and more) free of charge all over the net turns me off. I won't support such a greedy company and will uninstall this proggie before the day is out. It's really no more convenient than www.domaintools.com (only one of numerous sites) which gives more info for free.

Sorry to give a negative review but I guess ya'll are looking for feedback right?

Have a nice day!

To number 10 Toilet Duck:

Read the notes above the comments. It does say there are no free upgrades to future versions. That is once the give away of the days time is up, so if they just so happened to bring out a new version today, you'd get your free update, however you can count this free software as having been had for 364 and a quarter days, so the warrantry is up tomorrow. You'll have to pay extra to upgrade it in the future. I hope this helps and sorry if I sound a little condacsending; I don't mean to. Just trying to be helpful.

Go for the always freebie www.bluetack.co.uk. Blocklist manager is the one that lets you look up IP address.

Protowall is the best to block IP address.

Nice workign prgram, does what it says, but why? You can do the same with Windows' included utilities, and with many freeware/open source/GPL programs. You can also do this via numerous webopages on the Internet. Again, a shareware author trying to capitalise on the newbieness of others.

I've sent this once, but I have been messing with my settings and it doesn't appear to have been received, so.....

This is addressed to number 10 Toilet Duck.

Check the notes above the comments; It says that their are no free upgrades with any of these programs that are given away. I hope this clarifies things for you.

to number 10 toilet duck,

It says that because, you don't get free upgrades with the program. Read the notes above the comments section and you'll understand. Hope this helps.

Jonathan, there are two options in this program - "as domain" and "as IP/Hostname", I just checked SuperiorRail.com, and I've got correct information.

Fast Servers is probably a large hosting company, so "as IP/hostname" queries report it a lot.

for many MANY domains. This is questionable. For example: SuperiorRail.com is registered with REGISTER.COM and hosted at Powweb.com. The name servers as NS1.powweb.com and NS2.powweb.com

So the information appears to be UNRELIABLE.
