It works! I've tried quite a few of GAOTD PDF to Word conversion programs and they all fail somehow. This one works. Thank you Lighten Software and GAOTD.

Program looks like it may install but nothing happens. Win7 Ultimate 64 bit, plenty of memory. It doesn't even show as an installed program in the Control Panel/Programs. Emailed support at 'support@lightenpdf.com' with no reply. Too ad, it looked like a program which may work if it could install itself. I even tried it after rebooting and stopping all antivirus and firewall processes.

Download didn't work for me. I followed instructions from Read Me and when I opened the .exe file, it prompted me to download Software Informer, so I did. After that, the only option it gives me is to close the .exe part that I opened. I really hope this can be fixed, seems like a great download. :(

Also, the .gcd file doesn't open for me. I'm not really sure what I'm doing wrong.

Reply   |   Comment by Saly  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Saly In case you've come back here to see if anyone has responded: in this case, the popup box - Software Informer - contained the Registration name and Registration key to be used in order to register the program. Just minimize, or close, that box (after noting the Registration info). You do not download Software Informer.

Reply   |   Comment by Suze  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

Saly The .gcd file is only included because it is used by GotD to activate the program. Do not 'open' it! If there's a readme file, read it first, as it will always tell you what you need to do, and it always states to leave the .gcd file alone . . .

Wow, lately we have had a few of these, and I always throw the same, highly formatted, 106 page (actually twice that big, 2 pages of the book on each PDF page). This accomplished in 15 or so seconds what some of the other "converters" either won't do or can't do properly. This did a great job, I will probably be paying the $4.99 for this one, it is a keeper!

I tried to convert 40 page pdf document to docx format, but none of the pages were converted.
Next, I tried to convert the same document to doc format. This time I obtained a slightly better result: 3 pages were converted out of 40.
And yes, I did register the program before attempting to make the conversion.

I just noticed that the program has some problems converting non-standard fonts. It does some idiosyncratic things with the font conversion: Algerian becomes TimesNewRoman (ok), and some italic curly font---like BlackAdder--was completely jumbled. But, compared to most of the other translaters, this is pretty minor.

Reply   |   Comment by MAJ  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+4)

MAJ
Hi, thanks for the feedback. If the font is not available in system font book, or not supported by Word, the app will use a predefined font such as ‘Times New Roman’, or the closest match instead of the original fonts. This article explains the font issue: http://www.lightenpdf.com/faq/pdf-converter-font-issue.html

I've tried almost every pdf-to-doc application that GAOTD has offered and I must admit that I'm very satisfied with this one...the tables were rendered appropriately, no spelling/ocr problems that I can see---foreign names are rendered properly, and the graphic headers are displayed correctly and in the correct place on the page. AND it produces a .docx document!
I may even pay for this one.

Installation worked fine for me (Win7 Pro 64-bit machine) using the "email me a download link" option.

I converted two documents. One that I'd scanned came out as an uneditable image. That's what happened all the previous PDF converters I've tried. The second image, which started as a Word doc, came through nicely -- a huge improvement over other converters. The formatting was far from perfect -- lots of Section Breaks and some font changes. But I can work around that.

There are several minor user-interface annoyances (e.g., why can't we resize the window from any edge?), but the conversion from PDF to docx was, in my testing, the best I've encountered, at least for getting the layout right, of all the products that claim to do that. So thumbs up overall.

Reply   |   Comment by Ron  –  8 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+5)

Ron
In case anyone cares, a few more of those user-interface annoyances: Why do the tool tips take so long to show when I hover over the little icons at the top? (And I'd prefer to see words instead of, or in addition to, icons.) Scrolling through a PDF is slow. I didn't see a Preferences menu. And having a fit-to-window choice for document viewing size (not just zoom in/out) would be nice. The font choices in the converted document are often not a good match (but that's secondary to the layout retention, which is by far the best I've seen).

On the plus side, thank you for supporting drag-and-drop ... and THANK YOU for making this free today!

Hi, thanks for your feedback and suggestions. We will try to improve the UI to make it more user-friendly in next version. About the PDF reader within the app, it is designed for better conversion quality. You can mark table or graphic areas within it, this is its main purpose, we will also try to optimized it for better reading experience. About the font issue, we will add a function to let user select a preferred font used in output file. :) If you have any further suggestions, please feel free to let us know via support@lightenpdf.com

Installed and registered easily on Windows 10, 64bit. I use Open Office, latest version 4.1.2 My music program uses pdf files for the lyrics. I tried converting a single page song (lyrics). My conversion put 2 to 4 words on a page. Was looking for an easy correction method. Now I have to write out the lyrics in Open Office, convert to pdf and then install the pdf in my music program. I can annotate the pdf, but if I wish to make a lyric correction I have to go back to the original word doc. & start the process over again.....so this program doesn't help me. Thanks for the offer

The review stands, it is impressive for layered PDF, unknown for flat pdf. It does what it says quite well.

Very impressive! on a document which has embedded text - output from a application.

fast and accurate - images - hyperlinks - text etc.

Testing it on a scanned PDF or locked pdf - will need to wait. does anyone have those results of a single layer PDF?

Greetings

I've installed the Lighten Lighten PDF Converter which is the GOTD special of the day.

When I try to convert a 231 pgs PDF file all it converts is 3 pages and I get the message between ****:

I tried to register using the GOTD Registration key but it wasn't accepted. Would this be the reason I can only convert 3 pages?

What do I have to do to convert the whole document?

What would the $4.99 offer do that the GOTD offer is supposed to do?

Awaiting your reply

Yes, the reason you can only covert 3 pages is because you didn't register the program.

Hi, the app is optimized for Microsoft Word, it will output .docx or .doc. If you open the output file with WPS or other word processor apps, unsupported elements may not be fully compatible.

Anyone else having issues where it won't install? I get a activated popup but the daft thing won't actually install and it goes to a webpage for GOTD "Sucessfully activated so what's next". I tried downloading the program from the developers site, and while that installed, the activation name/key given with the GOTD package won't work. Ah well looked like a good program. And this is not the first time I couldn't install something from GOTD and had to pass. :/

For me the software has one big black mark against it - it can't handle mathematical formulae at all - it shows the Latin letters in the formula, the rest is just a lot of small rectangles.

Still, it's good enough that I accepted the company's reduced price offer and bought it - everything else really is nearly a 1 : 1 translation.

Hi, thanks for the feedback. Formulae is too complicated, it's difficult to create mathematical formulae in Word. If the PDF was created by LaTeX, currently the app is not able to convert it properly, your understanding will be appreciated.

I downloaded, installed, and tried it. It took a complicated PDF with pictures and charts and gave me a plain text file as requested. Text was clean and formatted better than if i had done it manually. Ordered the updates for $5. This is a bargain for software that actually works. I also like the way the authors answer the requests here so fast. I have no questions. It just, plain works. Period.

Worked well on a couple of PDF’s of mixed text and graphics, also converted quite rapidly.

Unsure as whether to post this or not as since the interface became more suitable for mobile the ratio of yes to no’s has decreased dramatically.
Instead of just pressing a no, possibly supplying a critique of the comment would be more useful.

Ran a fairly complex PDF through it - graphics etc (but no tables).
15 pages.
Result was perfect same (layout/quality/fonts) as the original pdf
Very promising so far - unlike many others tried over the years.
Note they are also offering us a free copy of
PDF Password Remover
and good prices for GOTD members on all their products.
The full house one (PDF CONVERTER OCR) at $15 as mentioned seems fair value if trials work out okay. (http://www.lightenpdf.com/free-pdf-to-word.html)

Windows 10. Very smooth install and register. Very easy to use. Very small mis-alignments when converting to .doc - In a couple of tables the text is over the border rather than in the box
So a keeper.
Maybe not to do with todays but the developer might be interested. I have a folder with loads of links to varius pdf converters mainly from GAOTD. When I need to convert I start at the first program and if success thats it. If not sucess I uninstall the unsucessful program then move on to the next. Its all about productivity.

I like to see a company realize the value in offering other products at a discount during a GOTD promotion. Why let all of these eyeballs go to waste. I'm going to play with the trial of their All-in-1 PDF Converter OCR. If it measures up, $15 seems very reasonable.

I came back to give a brief review but was reminded why I rarely post comments here anymore.
