I downloaded the program and Activated the program and then installed it.

Dear Developers- I am so grateful as my Windows 8 went went south -- maybe because of an install that went bad. I've always been able to repair but Windows 8 is something else and it is hateful OEM came with new computer.
Hoping for some help with your program (corrupted files very possible). Anyhow I am angry and sad that as usual we have 291 people who have voted your program down with something greater than 25 comments. Wish it were that comment required to vote. That would cure alot. I can only imagine how much work it takes to develop such software then additionally to give it away here. Thank you thank you!

Does this program only recover files, or does it also recover the file system structure? Can it make a non=accessible partition/disk accessible or boot-able? Any recommendations for software that makes a windows disk bootable again? I have tried the built-in Windows Recovery tools. (Win7)

I have an old computer in which recovery partition has disappeared for some reason. It is otherwise working fine running Vista Basic. With today's giveaway delivered to the door, I felt it was an opportunity to find the lost parition without much effort. Today's GOTD looked good, their website also very informative. I used the portable version first; it started but then hanged the system. PC restarted, antivirus disabled, portable version tried again, same problem. Made use of GOTD and installed today's version. Started... same problem. PC just hangs and has to be forced shut down. Not sure why, probably my PC...
It didn't work for me.

Looks like some very nice support from the developer, but where are the other comments GOTD - total 53, i can see only 24?
thanks

Registration without problems. Thanks!
Tried the software with a multiboot USB-stick which wasn't recognized by the system anymore.
It showed me all the files I was missing with the proper names, other software failed to do that.
Software allowed to create an image of the stick which I did before doing any recovery actions. Image compression was offered but I didn't see any effect on the output. Didn't evaluate the image though. Software was not offering to repair the damaged partition table from USB-stick but recovered all selected files to another drive. Was hoping for recovery on the damaged drive but can live with the other option to.
Fazit: Recommendable

Not working properly with 8 GB SD card with 26 MB free. For example, it finds 2 times the same folder containing 405 MB of files, and 2 times a 1 GB folder. All files marked good. That's not possible. Compared with Recuva (both software using fast scan): two different stories. At least Recuva tells which file overwrites another.

It is very rare that we can get here a portable Version of a Software. No Need to install, usable even after a Computer set up or a new one.
The portable software works fine so many thanks to Hetman and both thumps up.
PS.: A very good example for other companies on GOTD.

You start program in virtual XP and then try found partitions on W8?
Please install Hetman Partition Recovery on Windows 8 and run analyze under W8.
You can use portable version if your want - http://hetmanrecovery.com/download/hetman_partition_recovery.zip. Unzip files on USB flash. Then connect drive to Notebook and start program under W8. After that run analyze for disc C:.

I will not install an untested program on my W8.1 64 laptop. I need it daily and cannot risk something goinq wrong. Therefore I run a portable. But your portable did not accept the key I got on your site earlier this morning. So I used a portable I made myself on a virtual XP, activated with the key. I ran that portable on the real W8.1 64 laptop, with the above mentioned results.
I will test your portable.

The portable ran "fine", but the results are questionable. What to think of an Excel file of 75GB??
The programme wanted to save it to the same partition it was located. All my data are on partition D, mostly in DropBox. It was no surprise to me that 75GB Excel file could not be retrieved.

Be thankful, as a computer-tech in the Great White North of America, the power isn't as good as the city, & with enough 'brown-outs' hard drives & computer equip weaken - or someone hits the wrong set of keys (my kids & my Mother (Mom)) and Ooops. I collect these kinds of programs, now that I am retired & have my mornings to myself - to experiment with this kind of giveaway & stay thankful - you NEVER need - have a great day everyone!

I think that it's great that you provided a list of alternative recovery software! But, I noticed that most are on a trial basis! Does that mean, that you can recover your files just once and that's it? Or, that it will show you the recovered files, but in order to download them, you have to pay to do that? Just curious that's all.
Save | Cancel
If this was meant to be a list of freeware alternatives then it's very misleading.
If it was meant to be a list of cheaper alternatives worth exploring, then it's badly flawed as well as mis-timed, seeing as how today's giveaway is just that -- free -- and the only time when it would be worth checking out against commercial rivals is if a re-install is necessary or if you're so impressed with today's software, you're considering buying it at retail.
I won't be alone in grinning wryly at all the silly instant upvotes given so unthinkingly to your post -- upvotes which may well make others arriving here think oooh, look, lots of other freebies found by Mr Hick!! --so here are the facts, provided as much out of fairness to other GOTDers as out of basic courtesy to today's developer:
Easus Partition Recovery (actually it's Easus Data Recovery): $69.95
7-Data Recovery: $49.95
Remo PRO Edition: $99.95 (there are cheaper versions but anyone would have to be an idiot to fall for this particular developer's selling pitch whereby "different" file types are found but others not -- yeah, right;
Stellar Partition Recovery: $119
MiniTool Data Recovery: $69
As will be evident, "if you want to save your dollars" then staying well clear of REMO PRO Edition and Stellar Partition Recovery is highly advisable, so I don't know why you've come on here to publicise them.
As an aside, I do wish when people post stuff like the above they would CHECK FIRST. It's not GOTD's responsibility to do so -- but yours.
Finally, seeing as how today's developer is on here -- and kudos to him for doing so -- I really would recommend that you re-visit your price point. You're up against a really, really BIG name in the form of Easus so you're going to be much better off commercially, going for volume sales on sticker prices that undercut Easus rather than persisting in following the bonkers route of developers like REMO and Stellar.

MikeR,
Quite agree, plus to be able to say that they are much better should be qualified by a statement explaining the tests done to be able make such a statement.

What makes each of the ones you've listed "better"? Have you actually used any of them?

Used this application. It is an average going application. In short: It will be harder for software to make stand out in Data Recovery field. Because other recovery software are charging less for the same work.

Installed the software on Windows 8 machine
Pors:
• Give you a list of recovered files, you can select files of your choice
• Take less time to scan your drive
• Let you to preview recovered files
Cons:
• File are not with the original names
• Quite heavy application for a system
• Very expensive compared to other data recovery tool

The cons you mentioned are typical with the process of data recovery. They are not unique to this program. Similar programs cost $99 - $129.

Its working is similar to other recovery application. Except on thing “Preview” option. I tried to preview recovered files but didn’t get succeeded. Tool design is ok, but not that much friendly. New computer might face problems while using it. I had big confusion about its price...in purchase page it’s showing $99 and on GAOTD they changed it to $133.2...Can you guys clear the things that what you actually want to do???

To krypteller: We have Step by step tutorial - http://hetmanrecovery.com/hard_drive_recovery/how_to_1.htm

It is commendable that the developer follows these discussions and provides input. It is certainly something to be encouraged. For his benefit, I provide the following bona fide advice.
A simple, clear tutorial is a good, if not essential, feature.
But an even better feature is an intuitive use which doesn't require reading (and remembering) instructions or following tutorials.
I dare go even further and say from experience that, for the average user who is spoiled by well planned interfaces, the moment reading instructions becomes necessary, the program can be considered a half-failure.

I have to totally agree with tomcat's comment, on the representative of this software, following up on most of the comments left by computer users here @ GAOTD! That is a rare occurrence for software representatives to do this, without being required to do so! It's also a commendable quality that most representatives of software lack, when offering their software here for free. I just wish that more software representatives would do this follow up, just like this software rep. did today! That way, it shows that they are not just interested in their software, but that they back their software claims as well!
Save | Cancel
Regarding the "even better feature is an intuitive use"... I agree that software should be developed without the need for extensive documentation. But the page linked by the developer is an introduction to the software for marketing purposes. This online document seems like an explanation of the software before a customer purchases. The software does have a programmed wizard that appears to walk you through the options and processes.

Have I really to "like" the software to see my registration? Really??? I did not "like" and started the software without registration...
A clear structured, resizable window opens. I selected an SD card on an USB 3.0 card reader for recovering and short test. In this case the program loops with the (German) message: No feedback
http://i.imgur.com/74hmaqi.png
The program did not finish and must be killed by the task manager. I'm sorry, that I have no damaged hard disk for testing. May work on other cases.
It's a general problem to test such recovery tools. You have to rely, that they work, when you need them. If they don't work with a simple test SD card, you can only hope...

This is good software it can even be used just as recovery tool, the comment here above carry some prejudices and Mr. Karl today You driven people wrongly 'it is no necessary needed to damage You disk to test this useful tool' simply this day Your comment was not necessary.
Tested on windows xpsp3 it worked very smoothly; the optional fast scan was very fast for a 8 GB disk, the scan results [image] can be recovered by different ways [image]
The found files is shown with their original name all the thing is to pick them in thus auto generated folders, certainly there is files that can't be recovered.
