Jenny -- Congratulations to WonderFox for restoring the quality of its software to its former glory. (But I am having a license issue with some titles ... that I PAID for.)

I purchased my first WonderFox software in 2012. But around 2014, the quality of WonderFox software declined badly. Trial versions of WonderFox software contained PUPs (potentially unwanted programs). Your customer service became terrible.

By 2016, I stopped using WonderFox software. And I began to write very bad reviews about WonderFox, warning people to avoid your company.

Today, I am happy to write my first good review for WonderFox software since 2015. (Look for my review below.)

I might update my old BAD reviews of WonderFox ... except I have license issues with some software titles. Plus, I recently purchased one of WonderFox's conversion software. I STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED THE LICENSE YET (and yes, I have the receipt).

I hope you will respond and direct me to somebody in your company who can help resolve the license issues.

Thank you, Preston

Preston Mitchell,

Hello,

This is Jenny from WonderFox Soft. We have read your question and sorry for the inconvenience.

Generally speaking, users will receive the email immediately after purchasing our software, including details such as license code, invoice and more. Please confirm that the email you receive contains the complete content. If not, please do not hesitate to contact our after-sales email support@videoconverterfactory.com, our staff will reply you within 24 hours and help you solve the problem.

As for the PUPs, perhaps you are encountering a false positive of a certain anti-virus software. We can confidently say that as a software company, we will not allow our software to be related to the PUPs. Not only that, we will do virus scanning on virustotal.com to avoid the error reminder of anti-virus software perfectly when we update the software.

In fact, we have been doing our best to improve the software to better serve and reward users. Every software update is based on the user's feedback. In the future, we will work harder to make software and services more perfect.

Thank you for your support.

Best regards,
Jenny

Downloaded it. Unzipped it. Got the registration key. Went to activate the program. It hung at about the 95% mark. Tried it again. It wouldn't load up. Cool deal -- too bad it wouldn't load on my Windows 10 laptop. I was really looking forward to using this.

I've used a previous version of this software with excellent results. Today, this newer version installed (and registered) without a hitch. Thanks so much to WonderFox and GAOTD!

Have just tried another disk and it has the sound. Maybe it was because they were older disks. (they were older than 10 years).

The programme did a fabulous job with the first 3 dvds. The next 2 dvd's had no sound. The picture quality was good but no sound.

I installed as per instructions in the readme.txt file and it successfully registered.

But when I try to start the program, I keep getting these messages:

Access violation at address 009FBBE5 in module 'DVDRipperPro.exe'. Write of address 0000000C.

Access violation at address 009D8737 in module 'DVDRipperPro.exe'. Write of address 0000000C.

Initialization failed, please reinstall! Code=001

Access violation at address 0049D2A1 in module 'DVDRipperPro.exe'. Read of address 00000000.

Access violation at address 00A02A71 in module 'DVDRipperPro.exe'. Read of address 00000008.

I then re- installed and same thing happens each time.

BYO My Avast software has been disabled through this process.

Tried this three times now and I'm well and truly at the end of my tether.
Any ideas anyone? Or is this fit for the bin?

Until a few years ago, WonderFox was one of the more sleazier Chinese developers who stuffed their 'trial' software with PUPs (aka spy malware).

Over the past 2 years, WonderFox dramatically improved the quality of its software and corporate ethics.

Today, WonderFox software ranks among the first-tier Chinese developers, such as WonderShare, SoThink, and Digarity WinX.

I use several WonderFox software titles for specialized media format conversions (such as Video to GIF).

I can safely say Wonderfox software is safe and stable. Their customer service is very responsive. I like Wonderfox.

I am not installing the WonderFox DVD Ripper ... because I use the excellent WinX DVD Ripper periodically offered on GOTD. Both company's DVD Rippers are equally good.

If you didn't get the WinX DVD Ripper, I recommend installing WonderFox today.

*********
PS: KUDOS to the GOTD staff for offering very good software TWO days in a row! Speaking as a GOTD fan since 2011, the quality of GOTD offerings were steadily declining. I stopped visiting daily. SO, GOTD keep up the good work. You all are on a wonderful roll. Then maybe the true software experts will begin to return again and leave first-class reviews again.

"It’s default to check update automatically every week, and you can change the frequency in Option."

I can find no setting choices regarding updates under options. This might be a GOTD edition with the option removed. If it indeed checks weekly (or checks for updates if more than a week has elapsed since last launching), then be careful to NOT accept the update as, typically under the GiveawayOfTheDay rules, GOTD-offered titles revert to trial editions.

Is it a 6 months license as usual with this company ?

The DVD-format is always 720X576 or less.
Upscaling to 4 or 8 K will not improve the quality.

F Thomsen, never had a program from WonderfoxSoft thast lasted (only) for 6 months. Maybe you confuse it with something else. Licenses have always been lifetime in all giveaways i participated in and it's been years.

senzai6293, I have had a couple of their programs, and they became trial versions after 6 months.
It would be nice if WonderFox would give some information about the license period here...

F Thomsen, I had the previous v12 Giveaway from more than 12 months ago and it still showed as registered, although I replaced it with this one as it was a little later version.

For those of you still using XP and having problems getting GOTD software to work on your system. I absolutely love XP; to me it is the best OS MS ever developed, but for some reason they decided to abandon it in favor of new architecture, to my dismay. That being said I saw the writing on the wall and upgraded to a Windows 7 Computer over a year ago. I have very definite negative feelings about Windows 8 & 10 although I realize that I will be in the same place with 7 that I was with XP. What I'm trying to tell you is, as much as I love XP, and still run it on another computer, and don't like 7 as much as I like XP, my computing life is so much better with 7. XP, for all intents and purposes, is dead. I realize that expense is a consideration, but if you can find a way to upgrade to 7, you should. You will be so much happier with it. If you can't or won't upgrade the consider "React OS" as an alternative to XP; I haven't done anything with it for years, I'm just getting too damned old, but React OS is continually being developed and updated. Another OS I like is Zorin. Take these words for what they're worth, but it's time to do something different.

Never ever able to install GOTD when it uses Setup.gcd. I give permission and shut off firewall but always the same.
If you try to download their software it is invalid when you try to use the code provided.... why is this?

I presume this is identical to the December 2018 Giveaway?

JohnL, probably, funny is the changelog lists v12 being released on Feb 21, 2019, a little bit late to the party there.

JohnL,

On the Wonderfox website, it shows that version 12 was released on Feb 21, 2019, but it has in parenthesis: (sixth edition), so there must have been some changes since the December 2018 release. The size reported in the System Requirements changed from 48.3 MB to 53.8 MB for today's offer. The December 2018 offer had a setup.exe and a Readme file. Today's offer has the Readme, and setup.exe along with the setup.gcd file (GOTD's wrapper). Based on these details, I suspect that the version today is slightly different from the December 2018 edition. For Wonderfox, it might be like minor version number differences.

Also note that there are minor changes in the prices if you take advantage of the Lifetime purchase options. The price for a single user license went down by $5 (regular price went down by $10). The family price went up by $5 but its regular price stayed the same. Also the Ripper and Converter package deal price remained the same.

If you ever have the need to rip DVDs, ISOs, or even folders, this may be one of the best offers to get the single user lifetime license. DVDs are becoming less popular over the digital format, however, if you think this means no more ripping necessary, think of it another way. There are lots of DVD disks still being sold, but the price is dropping. That means you can afford to purchase more DVDs now than ever before, and if you want a digital copy, this is one of the best ways to get it.

The December 2018 offer is at https://www.giveawayoftheday.com/wonderfox-dvd-ripper-pro-12/
Notice that today's offer is nearly the same URL, only the 12 changed to 2.

senzai6293, Note I have the previous Giveaway and it does say it's v12.0 Pro ! :-)
Anyway having installed today's one and compared them they both claim to be v 12.0.0.0 (in the executable, 12.0 in the "about") but today's one is a little larger... also it didn't just carry on with the previous registration key but needed the new one.

Reply   |   Comment by JohnL  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+6)

JohnL, so is it same version or not? Would be my conclusion to this.

Reply   |   Comment by senzai6293  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+3)

senzai6293, I think it's different... same basic version but with a few fixes...

Reply   |   Comment by JohnL  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+4)

senzai6293, It is Version 12 edition 6 which was released in February 2019.
If you have a version 12 installed previous to February 2019 then this is a newer version

Supports up to 8k (7680*4320) resolution, and forced subtitles.
That program can never deliver on what was promised. Quality!
With a DVD people are always connected to the image format 720x576 pixels and that with an MPEG 2 video codec

I already have v. 9.7 installed on my WIN10 PC. Will this new version replace it, or do I risk losing both by installing v.12?

John Jennings, My 9.X became version 12.

Reply   |   Comment by Rick  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

John Jennings,

By default, this install will replace the previous version, however you can browse to a different location. In my case, I don't want to install in a different location, so I do not know if Wonderfox will ask you to uninstall the previous version (or offer to do the uninstall for you). In all my previous records, I do not see any times where the Wonderfox software asks to uninstall older versions. Instead, their software seems to always be able to install over older versions, and everything be updated to the new version. There have been other software products that could not do that reliably, so they offer to uninstall or instruct the user to uninstall older versions.

In your case, I would suggest trying a different location, and see if you can still access both versions. On the other hand, there have been several changes since version 9.7. They are listed at https://www.videoconverterfactory.com/dvd-ripper/change-logs.html

I would think most will want to take advantage of the changes. You be the judge for you though. Best of luck to you.

John Jennings, I guess I'm not understanding the question. Why would you be hesitant to update to a newer version?

Reply   |   Comment by JonE  –  5 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

I had v9.8. I just installed this. I now have v12.0. I no longer have v9.8. So, it upgraded from 9.8 to 12. You won't end up with both. I don't understand why you would be thinking you might end up with neither.
