Having same issues with the program not ripping. Ripped 1 dvd fine with October 31 GAOTD, on Win 7 64x, but the activation key disappeared several days later. Now after reinstalling on Win 7and installing on another pc running Win XP, both will not copy, rip, entire movie. Ripped several sections or minutes of dvd and divided dvd into 2 sections (00:00:00-56:08:16 and 56:08:16 - 01:26:16), ripped fine. Received email from support telling me to reinstall on a non system partition. Well I don't have partitions on these two pc's. I should not have to install on a non system drive. Cannot install the program since the GAOTD time has expired.

Thanks to Fatboy #12 and others for the tips on removing the old rego key and installing today's new one. Very helpful and easy to do. Appreciate it. Also other tips on the program, eg Mike. Thanks. And thanks Digiarty and GOTD, esp for the rerun.

Hi, can someone please the answer to this...I started download and installed fine I even went ahead and tried to rip a dvd movie to avi file and it did finished fine. But the second time I rip another DVD Movie it stopped and gave me an error and it was asking me if I want to send the Error Log file via email to them and so I did but now it won't even work anymore after sending the Error file via email. I have tried many times again to uninstall WinX DVD Ripper Platinum and reinstalled the program and I even restarted my Windows 7 64 Bit in between trying and it just won't work at all. Does anybody know why?
thank,

I used the activation key in this one to "re" activate the installation from a month ago, which for some reason became inactive within a few days of installing (on two separate PCs). The program works fine. Just hope it remains activated. WinXP SP3 and Windows7.

Mike (and anyone else interested),

I'm no expert, but I see nothing in the Copyright Designs and Patents Act 1998 which stops you making a backup copy for your own use (this applies in England & Wales). All the penalties for removing copy protection etc seem to be aimed at persons who do so for commercial reasons - i.e. they are selling the pirated versions or selling the software or hardware which circumvents the protection. For example, section 296ZG of the Act gives the right to the copyright holder or their agents the right to prosecute someone for infringement of copyright where: "...a person (D), knowingly and without authority, removes or alters electronic rights management information which—

(a) is associated with a copy of a copyright work, or

(b) appears in connection with the communication to the public of a copyright work, and

where D knows, or has reason to believe, that by so doing he is inducing, enabling, facilitating or concealing an infringement of copyright."

In other words, it seems that if D is not facilitating or concealing an infringement of copyright - which if the copy is for his own use and he is not selling the copied material - then no offence has taken place. In any event, there is no way that the copyright holder or his agents would know that someone was making a backup copy of the material unless they were themselves distributing it (and thereby depriving the copyright holder from the revenue produced by his copyrighted material).

So, make a backup copy of anything you like and as long it is for your own use - and the original was legally acquired - then there appears to be nothing to worry about.

Hope this helps.

I also had registration problems with the previous GAOTD download but digiarty helped me address right away.

I also had a problem that has NOT been addressed though:

Conversion to avi or mpeg works well - no crashes.
However, the program crashes a lot when I try the COPY function which is high quality video according to the menu; it always happens when the progress bar is around 90%. I tried the software with a couple of DVDs (PAL, region 2) on TWO computers (one with XP SP3 and one with Win 7 Ultimate). The crash happens on BOTH.
I sent log files and screen shots to digiarty.
Did anybody have a similar experience? Does anybody know of a fix?

Hello Again Folks

Comment by Corek @ No.11 = "#5. Possibly easier to ask in which counties is it legal to work around copyprotection?
Assume you are in a country where it is illegal. Then search and check. If you copy any protected DVD’s do NOT sell them, just keep them as backups to your legally bought DVD’s."

Corek makes a really good point ! Here in the UK - this kind of software is illegal - although a mate of mine - ( A COPPER no less ) - went into a local computer shop to try to buy something similar . . . without thinking :o)

BUT - here's the insane bit - YOU CAN legally make ONE BACKUP COPY of each disc etc. - to protect your original OR in case the original is ever stolen - so long as you can prove you own the original & so long as you only ever make ONE BACKUP COPY !!! - This certainly was the case with CD's years ago - I don't know if the law's changed since then.

So if you are allowed to backup your collection - WHAT are you supposed to back it up with - if the backup software is illegal ???
It's always been the same - since the '80s & Cassette Tapes . . . even recording TV programs onto VCRs & DVDRs !!!

This is also why groups have been challenging the use of Digital Copy Protection of music etc. such as iTunes etc.. How do you make a Backup copy of your purchased music file if it has protection built in to prevent such a backup ?

I'll be the first to admit - in THIS post - I'm not stating loads of facts or quoting masses of knowledge - I'm more asking than anything else.
When you think about it - while the restrictions are in place to prevent piracy - they also limit legitimate backup.

CDs used to have a "SECOND COPY LOCK" built in - meaning you COULD make ONE copy ( this I do know to be FACT ) & some still do ! This meant that once an ORIGINAL Disc was copied - that COPY could not be copied ever. BUT companies like EMI started making their CDs "Pre-Copied" - meaning that ONE legit copy no longer was available !

Having been in both the Computer & Music Industries for many years - ( I used to be a Radio Presenter & Radio / Disco / Nightclub DJ PLUS Radio Station Enginneer in the '80s & '90s ) - I've grown with & experienced the many changes that took place with the growth of Digital media etc. Slowly but surely - as stuff got better & the digital world grew in size - so our ability to legally Backup has reduced.

It even got to the stage a few years back - where SONY BMG got their fingers well & truly rapped with millions of pounds of fines - for including malware in their Audio CDs that were designed to supposedly combat piracy. Meaning if you made your legitimate backup & then played it on a machine connected to the Internet - it called home & THEY KNEW you'd done it ! - NOT CLEVER !!!

I believe that we in the UK should be allowed to legally BUY this sort of software in shops etc. with 1 modification - the ability to make ONE copy only of any disc & that copy would then be copy locked ! That way - Piracy could be prevented AND we could make our legal backups in the knowledge that our GENUINE disc hardware is safe AND that we are within the limits of the law.

I'm in no way trying to promote copying of discs for sharing / profit etc. I own several thousand CDs & several hundred DVDs - ALL GENUINE - all I want is to know that my purchases are going to be with me in years from now. - Discs can be accidentally scratched as I discovered recently having used my own CDs on the radio etc. many years ago - ( I'm going to sound seriously UN-COOL now ) -
I own the CD Album Olivia Newton-John's - "Back To Basics ... Essential Collection 1972 - 1992" & to my horror - my TWO favourite tracks: "11 - A little More Love" & "12 - Xanadu" are both scratched to the extent it has damaged the sound :o(
Fortunately I found them both on a LEGAL FREE DOWNLOAD SITE BUT I have a ton of stuff that's extremely rare - IF I discover that they're scratched also - I'm screwed. I really wish I'd used a Backup Copy for the radio & my genuine Disc would still be mint !!! I used to use HUNDREDS of my own CDs & 12" Singles etc. on air or at Discos / Club etc. So any of them may not have gone straight back into their covers due to fast paced time restraints & so may have been scratched.

While I'm aware that the discs not being put straight back into their Jewel Covers was my fault - IF they'd been Backup Copies instead - there'd be no problem. I could shred the damaged copy & create a new one from my GENUINE Disc - meaning I only ever had ONE BACKUP COPY !!!

-------------------------
Anyway - I hope this has prompted some thoughts of the rights & wrongs of copy protection with some of you :o)
This time - I'm not necessarily expecting to be "Helpful" - BUT if you've had a few minutes thought about what I've discussed & come up with your own opinions agreeing or disagreeing with mine - I've done my job !

Apologies for any Typos

Cheers for now & HAVE A GREAT DAY FOLKS !!

I downloaded this version to give this product another try. During the install process it does not ask you for the reg key provided, when I checked the about option it shows as already registered.
My question is to I clear it out and use the one provided (shown in the first posting) or just leave it as is.
Thanks for any help

#2: "So which version is newest?"

Today's GOTD has a file date of 11/08/10. I think the version last on GOTD had a date of 10/25/10, & is slightly smaller. But it's hard to say definitely since Digiarty occasionally has free downloads from their site, & AFAIK there's no special mods for any GOTD version.

#5: "Is it true that copyprotection is killed by the software?
In which counties is it illegal to work around copyprotection?"

Google/Bing. For the 1st question, I'm a bit skeptical that WinX DVD Ripper can always bypass the latest DRM, since SlySoft & DVDFab have to constantly update their products to accomplish that, & they charge significantly more because of it. Not every DVD has the latest, greatest DRM however, so to a great extent whether the WinX ripper works or not depends on the DVD. RE: legality, they're still arguing this stuff in the courts. *Purely FWIW*, a recent ruling in the US *seems* to say it's OK in some cases to back up or convert DVDs you own, BUT, reverse engineering anything is still not legal, & ripping, copying, bypassing DRM etc. all require reverse engineering.

#10: "... Instead all you want to do is Shrink (and Decrypt) a twin layer DVD to a single DVD. Does it do that ? "

Good question, the answer is No, *BUT*... ;-)
As least complicated as I can make it, If you want menus etc., the best way is to burn a DL DVD -- blank cost is down to < $1 ea. If you want just the movie, you might be able to re-author using Shrink or Nero Recode without re-encoding or anything -- just copy -- & that might fit without the extra audio tracks, special features etc. If it's still a little too big, you might use PgcDemux to get individual files, turn 5.1 audio to stereo AC3, then create new DVD with muxman (free version). When those steps won't work, Shrink & Recode can reduce size, & if the change percentage shows in the 90s, you're probably OK -- more than that & you should re-encode completely, which Shrink/Recode don't do. WinX DVD Ripper Platinum OTOH can re-encode your video, but you'll need another app to put your audio/video into the layout you'd burn to DVD. Note that the mpg2 video on a single layer DVD should be no more than 2 hours long -- any longer & you have to add too much compression to get it to fit. There are several free bit rate calculators to help you figure out the bit rate setting -- higher bit rate = better quality but also = bigger files.

Having messed about about a bit it seems that's it's only Video_ts folders that I'm having a problem with, it'll rip from DVDs fine.

Doesn't matter from where in the movie I start the rip, I'll get 1-2 seconds before it finishes.

Very nice looking 1-2 seconds though :-)

After regularly using this software I'm experiencing big problems with the update.

No matter what I try to rip & to whatever format it'll only rip/convert the first couple of seconds before I get the message that comnversion is finished.

I've tried it on my PC and my laptop.

Hi Folks

Comment by Ed @ No.2 = "I’m trying to figure out if I have the newest version though, it says Version 6.0, built 201011108 on my program. If I click the “Check Version” button, it takes me to their webpage to download Version 6.0, built 20101021. So which version is newest?"
Hi Ed - As crazy as this may sound - I'd reckon on them BOTH being the newest available !!!
As I've mentioned in previous posts on here - the GAOTD team often have softwares adapted so that a key released here won't work on newer versions from the Publisher's site. BUT - since there was a bug in the previous release on GAOTD - they've gone back to the drawing board - with a NEWER release & adapted that one - so as a result - the most up-to-date PUBLIC release is Version 6.0, built 20101021 BUT the latest GAOTD ONLY release is the newer Version 6.0, built 201011108.

As a result the general PUBLIC will never have the opportunity to download the newer Version 6.0, built 201011108 release from the Publisher's site !

The reason behind having TWO RELEASES is less crazy than you may think. - One of the Primary Rules to GAOTD is - NO FREE UPDATES - BUT if you were able to download Brand New Updated Trial Versions every few months & activate them with the GAOTD key - that would NOT please the publishers - so it's in their interests to create an altered release for this site which will accept only one key - a key which is NOT recognised in the PUBLIC releases !!!

I hope I made sense there . . . I think I did ::o)

I hope this has been helpful for some of you.

If I click the “Check Version” button, it takes me to their webpage to download Version 6.0, built 20101021. So which version is newest?

That's strange bcs, although the current Win X DVD Ripper Platinum copy stored in my HD was downloaded 2 weeks ago, it looks like it's even newest than the current one displayed in the official Win X DVD Ripper Platinum website.

In fact my version is V6.0.0 built on 20101025 instead of 20101021.

How is it possible??

Something here doesn't add up !!

I installed a previous giveaway of WinX DVD Ripper Platinum in January 2010. I don't rip DVDs very frequently, but on every occasion that I have used it, it has worked perfectly. It is fast and reliable. As you would expect from looking at Digiarty's website, the visual design is excellent. Its user interface is simple, clear and intuitive. It's also highly configurable.

The only reservation I have is that it takes rather a long time to launch, and while it is launching, it affects system responsiveness. Regardless of that, I would certainly recommend it.

Thanks to GOTD and Digiarty for the great giveaway.

Ok this is my 2nd time downloading this program. I too downloaded it, and Winx activated by itself. To my horror i went to burn a dvd for a friend and realized it wasn't registered. So I saw the rerun and thought great ill get it a second time. Once more it activated by itself. But you cant fool me twice. So I spent all my time trying to activate it with the given license. After many trials i finally got it. This is what you do: (1) Next to the Check new version button click the about button. (2) On the bottom theres a license code click remove. (3) restart the progam by closing. (4)Upon restarting the program they will prompt you for a key (5) Do not copy and paste ! Enter each digit one at a time. (6) ENJOY THIS IS BY YOUR FAT FRIEND

Some may be interested in this question (and answer)
Say you do not wish to convert to avi etc.
Instead all you want to do is Shrink (and Decrypt) a twin layer DVD to a single DVD.
Does it do that ?

(Ideally it would allow you to Shrink and decrypt to a folder on your hard drive (ifo vob files), and then you can use Nero to burn it.)

Hello everybody,

though some of you may find this rerun inappropriate, here are a few reasons why we repeat WinX DVD Ripper on GOTD:

- we had problems with domain record on October 31 and many users did not have access to the site and could not install this title;
- there was information that former registration key was active for 2-3 days on some PCs.

Thus we agreed on making a re-run with Digiarty Software.

Please pay attention to the fact that updated version is posted today. So even though you may still have this title from previous time it can be worth downloading it again to gain new features.

Best regards,
GOTD team

I downloaded and installed the program, and when I went to enter the activation/license code, there was already one there, and it's not the one in the Readme file. Do I need to remove the one that's there, and enter the one from the Readme file? Also, once finished with the installation, the Digiarty page that opens has a giveaway of this product that's good until Nov 17, with yet another license code...
