I installed this, & Registered it on Sept 25th.. It registered fine. I tried it for 3 minutes, & it had opened fine, & worked fine with my webcam. My grandson came here this morning (The 4 yr old I wanted to try this software for).. I opened it, & IT Wants to to "Try", "Enter SN" "or "Get Pro". What really upsets me is I have been searching for a Program like this that doesn't SUCK.. i.e. Magic i-Visual Effects!.
Is anyone else getting this?

Previous comments have compared this to WebcamMax which I still have installed as an older version (3.2.1.5) on my machine (versus the current 7.5.3.6 which has more features than my old copy). Here are a few observations:
Video Booth previews effects as live-video thumbnails which you click on to select. My older version of WebcamMax does not offer live preview, and I could not tell for sure from the WebcamMax website whether the newer version now has this feature.
Although Video Booth installed OK and has many extra add-on effects that can be downloaded (some were really pretty imaginative and fun! -- but most if not all are now also part of the current WebcamMax choices), on my system I notice that when I'm selecting an effect from one of the "accessory" or "faces" pages of choices, Video Booth displays no text titles and the live thumbnail do not have those effects applied as part of the preview. I see myself in the live video preview but with no clue as to what the effect will be prior to selection. The live-video thumbnail previews for the other categories of effects worked fine.
So (to repeat), although the effects work fine when chosen, because I can see no thumbnail preview for those certain categories, I don't know what is going to show up until the new effect is loaded and takes over. That makes it hard to use.
WebcamMax has categorized the different effects, and displays all choices in a given category at the same time in a scrollable list with titles.
On the other hand, when it works properly Video Booth displays 8 effects at a time as a page of live-video preview thumbnails (the center-tile thumbnail "9th choice" is always for restoring to a "normal" no-effect choice). However, although all 8 items on a given page are of the same category, the next page of choices is randomly different.
Example, you might see a page of 8 "accessory" effects choices (glasses, mustaches, hair, etc.), followed by a page of 8 "distortion" effects, then a page of 8 "frame" effects, then maybe another of 8 "accessories", etc. I.E., the pages of effects are not clustered sequentially by category. Again, it makes choosing difficult.
Also, whereas WebcamMax allows the option of applying/layering several effects together, I didn't notice that I could do that with Video Booth. One effect always replaced another.
On the plus side, the main Video Booth video window was about 4 times larger than my older-version WebcamMax video window which I can not enlarge. I don't know about the current version of WebcamMax.
Also, many of the extra effects are downloadable from the Video Booth web site a page's worth at a time (8 effects in each page-package in a category such as accessories, faces, frames, distortions, filters, etc.) in the form of an installer file. As far as I can tell the WebcamMax web site only permits individual effects to be downloaded a file at a time, a lot more work (8 times as many files to download to get the same number of effects).
Conclusion: Although the effects work, the Video Booth user interface needs a lot more work to be useful.

Nice little program, but when I use the backgrounds, they don't work properly. It says "step out of frame", which I do, and the photo still isn't me in the shot, it's all weird looking, I don't know how to describe it. Either the background shows up over the whole pic; no background at all; or there are parts of the background that do show up (where they shouldn’t show up), while at the same time, parts of the background that don’t show up (but they should). What I'm getting to is, the background does not truly encompass the whole "background" of my pictures, it merely puts bits and pieces of the background randomly dispersed all over the entire pic (the program also displays bits and pieces of the background I choose over my person when I get back into position after it says "background detected" or something er other.) I don't know how to fix this, even if there is a way for me to do something about it, but I do hope this info helps the developer of this SW, in some small way, at least. PC specs. Win 7 Pro 64 b, AMD dual core processor, HP laptop w/ built in WebCam.

Love it! Accidentally did thumbs down. This is a great program that would be great for a variety of things, i.e. making movies, really cool video cards, etc. Love all the free add-ons and hope to see more! Thanks so much!

Downloaded, installed and actived easy and fast on XP SP3. Interesting little toy, pretty straight forward but there is no help file rather you are taken to limited FAQ's and an email for technical support which sucks since we have no technical support. LOL Everything seemed to work fine except that the audio and video are out of sync. I can't tind anywhere for settings to address this. If I can't get that fixed it's gotta be dumped.

This looks like the free version? So it looks more like this developer is using the giveaway site as an advertisment for their main program.
Can someone confirm whether we have been given the free or Pro version? I'm sure after looking at the comparison chart on their website that this is the freeware version. Why else would it leave a shortcut in the Programs folder saying purchase the Pro Edition.
Save | Cancel
@1: It is the pro version. You should actually download the free version and compare. It seems the main difference is the free version wouldn't open the effects download page (http://www.my-video-booth.com/effects.html) and would put a watermark on things.
---
A couple things to note: This program consistently took up 46% of my CPU (2.6 GHz). Also, the base code is from a program called WebcamMax (http://www.webcammax.com/). The GUI is a clear attempt at copying Apple's Photo Booth UI.

Installed fine win7/64. I downloaded extra effects and that went fine. But upon recording using several different effects each recording the speech was a bit garbled and WAY out of sync with the video.
The appearance of a chroma key background in the effects templates made me think I could choose a background from the program to just drop in. Instead you must use a program like vegas studio or 123 video magic pro or similar to replace the "fake" chroma key. This is not a big deal (if you have the software) but since the voice/video sync was SO bad I didn't go that far.
Help file? WHAT help file? I've seen better help on the side of a coffee cup telling me it's hot.
Maybe I'm doing something wrong to cause the sync issue... but I produce video tutorials using chroma key every day and I know it's not a hardware problem. It's a shame because this could be a really awesome tool, especially if it contained more professional-looking templates and not mostly "childish" ones.
Still, I'll likely keep it and muck around to see if I can get it to work properly... hopefully it all goes well.

Fun little app. but the novelty wears off very quickly

VideoBooth is a cute but somewhat resource hungry app intended for applying FX, backgrounds, & overlays to the live feed from a webcam. It can save snapshots or video clips, though it has no settings for video encoding or saved images -- images can be saved as png, bmp, jpg, or gif, while video's saved as 640 x 480, 25 fps mpg by default [you may be able to adjust web cam settings under Options -> Device -> Advanced]. Some of the code is based on OpenCV [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/OpenCV ] , & it uses DirectEncode for video encoding [I *think* http://www.standardmpeg.com/ ], with the remainder based on code from webcammax.com [perhaps a sister site]. Awards shown on the VideoBooth site may be for localized versions of those sites -- personally I don't consider it a pro or con, but VideoBooth's devs are almost certainly non-US/EU based on (C) & TM images used for some of their overlays [just try putting a Disney character on a product in the US]. The interface is both easy to figure out & use, with an in-program link to several additional FX, overlays etc. downloads [http://www.my-video-booth.com/effects.html?PID=VDB ]. Those downloads [unpackable with 7-zip] come in setup files that unpack the files in their proper place, & add that package to the app's configuration file & registry key.
Installation isn't bad at all, though this GOTD really does have to be installed today -- no using a trial with the GOTD key tomorrow. The VideoBooth program files holds 85 files, 13 folders, ~22 MB, with a 2nd VideoBooth folder added to User App/Application Data that stores the configuration file along with temporary stills & video's you haven't saved yet -- it's a separate step. The registry only gets 1 key for the app itself + 1 for uninstall.

Installed quickly and easily. Was able to switch between my built-in web-cam to an external USB microscope. Works fine and has several fun effects. Thanks for the software!

Nr 3 good call. Nr 11, regardless rather they are bogus or real, any company who delivers a FREE version (cripleware) to GOTD doesn't needs to add a thumbs down award from GOTD users. I've purchased about 8 programs over the course of the years of coming here. This won't be one of them. There are MANY other trialware packages out there that's much better then this, MANYCAM is one of them even the free version. No thanks.

Great, fun program. What's all the negativity about. Installed fine on WIn 7 64 bit...no hassle registration. Kids are having a blast with it, and it does record sound.

Not at all impressed, far too limited, especially considering the price. Compare to Webcam Max.

Jane Calendine #12
My family have lived abroad for years, but thanks to Skype which is free we have been able to keep in contact at no cost for years. Skype link:-
http://www.skype.com/intl/en-us/get-skype/
The only extra hardware required is a cheap microphone and headset and a WebCam, bought as two separate items they cost less than $30.
Generally the quality of the speech is better than my telephone and the video is more than adequate. The best of luck!

This is a fun little program with no video or photo editing capabilities. You basically capture and an effect. I haven't tried the video/webcam capture but I did try the screen capture.
In response to #10, you can possibly open a photo and maneuver it on screen in order to capture and apply an effect to it and then you can save it. You cannot import any photos or videos into the program for the purpose of adding effects.
Since the only other version is free, I am not sure why there is a need to refer to it as pro (outside of marketing since pro apparently sounds like you're really getting something).
I would say it is overpriced at $49.95 because it lacks basic photo editing capabilities. You should be able to at least crop the captured image which you want to apply an effect. Maybe a basic trim would be good for the webcam capture but I cannot make any good suggestions since I haven't yet tried that feature. But I believe a pro version of software should at least include basic editing.

Hi.
I looked at their website to find that you can have the free version 2.3.2.8 : if you want the Pro you have to pay $ 29.99.
So far it is OK.
But the version from today Giveaway is 2.3.2.6 : it is older than the free and it is certainely not the Pro version!!!.
This is not the first time that a Company use our community of users with a false giveaway. We have better things to do than evaluate their public free version.
My suggestion is to stop right now this giveaway offer wich is not at all what this site is for.
Thanks for the good giveaway software that we regularly find here.

It installed OK, it works OK, and it's a bit of fun, but it certainly isn't $49.95 worth of fun.

To the developer:
If your program is good and clean, you don't need any rewards to brag about, the people will buy your software for what it does and not for what is decorated for.

Once again so much negativity for a program that is FUN. Windows 7 64 bit works great. Your kids/grandkids will love this program. Get it, try it, enjoy it.

@#3... Do more research. Those are all real rewards. Check with the websites noted on the rewards. They can authenticate their reward status. Just because they are not from some big name company doesnt mean they are fake or even less than reliable.

Hi, somewhat naive question (judging by description and pic on the cover of this Software), but I would like to avoid unnecessary download - So is this Giveaway only limited to those who have/use webcam, or can these fun effects be used on existing "snapshots" and video clips?
There is no specific requirements on their Homepage, except that it supports a number of cameras - meaning?
Thanks in advance for clarifying answers:)

And not only what Harrym says (#3), but why do they show off two so called "awards", stating that their program is malware free? I have never sen such an award on Microsoft webpages or Adobes....so can we trust them? A company who has to put such nonsense on their webpage is a "No Thank You" for me.

I'm a little confused. I installed it and it says it's the free version and keeps bugging me to upgrade to pro. There is no reg code or anything in the ReadMe file so what is the difference between this and the free download on their web site?

The program installed and registered by simply running the setup program. On opening it had found my web cam without any instructions on my part. The interface is extremely sparse with hardly any icons, but I was able to find my way around it without too much difficulty. There are quite a few effects available and I downloaded and attempted to install some more from their website, they installed but they did not appear as additional effects.
My real difficulties came when I attempted to record a video, when I stopped it my computer froze, and the only way to stop it was to physically turn the machine off.
I am probably going to uninstall it, a shame as it looked like it had potential. However it appears to be grossly overpriced!

What does this app have that doesn't come with every webcam by default? I'm mystified.

Looking at their product page, one can see the usual phony or meaningless "awards".
When will they learn that this kind of behavior turns people off rather than on ?

PROS:
* Smooth download, installation, activation on Vista x32.
* Automatically detects computer's webcam devices & displays user's onscreen image capture.
* Offers 36 included photo-effects options, with ability to download more effects from website.
* Simple GUI, easy to navigate and capture images/videos.
* Provides options to (1) snap still photos, (2) shoot videos, (3) shoot continuously.
* Supports image formats: jpg, gif, bmp, png
* Supports video format: mpg
* Can upload images to Developer's website & YouTube.
CONS:
* No local Help file within program & no clear instructions on how to upload captured images/video to YouTube or Developer's website.
* Cannot re-size program window
* Image & Video-supported formats are limited to those noted above.
* Cost of program is high, compared with similar, equally-capable free & paid software.
Summary: Program is easy to use and does as it says, though instructions on how to upload to YouTube would be helpful - also, price tag is too steep, compared with equally-capable freeware and other paid programs. For these reasons, I would not recommend this program - but I do thank you (GOTD & Video Booth) for this nice offer.

Installed fine on Windows 7 (32 bit). A pity it's the same as their FREE version offered on their site rather than the PRO version that the screenshots above are from. It's nothing more than a advert but if you intend to keep it and need a reinstall at any point at least you can get the download from their site.
