Don't often leave comments but can thoroughly recommend this software. Have had it installed for ages on XP and now on Win7 and it just does what it says without any fuss. One of my must haves whenever I get a new PC.

my question is! do I need to get registration keys for each of my two computers separately, or will one key work on both machines?

so far, it has installed with minimum grief on my #1 machine, I will try the supplied key which I will get in a moment and see how it runs (and hope its accessible to the blind) then probably comment again.

My USB connected webcam is "automatically" disconnecting/reconnecting from time to time (as if I'd plugged the cable in/out). Would "USB Safely Remove" help me to identify the source for this strange behavior?

This program is very helpful on my Vista laptop. It reduces the amount of clicks I need to eject a USB drive. The built-in function is slow and cumbersome on older Windows versions, while this program saves time, looks better, and provides more options. You just hover over the icon, then click the drive you want to eject. The function showing locked files helps determine which programs and windows to close when a drive won't eject. Very convenient and highly recommended for Windows versions before 7. I installed the 2012 giveaway, and will gladly update to this new version of the program. Thanks!

I don't use this anymore since Windows 7 seems to have a similar function built in, a way better iteration than the one that came with previous Windows versions; but when I was still running XP I was very happy to have this, and I swore by it. Highly recommended. (but maybe redundant depending on your version of Windows.)

This is an invaluable tool if you have multiple external storage devices, much better than windows safe removal tool. I have 5 external hard drives and would never go without this software. Upgraded from 5.2 from the last time it was offered. Thank you for todays giveaway and keep up the great work Crystal Rich!

I have version 5.2.4 on my Windows 7 32-bit laptop. I quit the application. Then, I tried to run the installation for 5.3.8, and nothing changed. It went right to the GAOTD "successfully activated" dialogue box. It did not update. I tried entering the new key to see if that would let it update, but it said it is not valid. I carefully followed the instructions, and even attempted space removals, etc. No luck.

Eventually, I found out that Zemana AntiLogger was blocking the installation! I opened Zemana, scrolled to the latest Rule and chose to allow USB Safely Remove setup (it was marked as blocked). Then, the installation worked well and I now have the new version registered without issue. Anvir Task Manager asked me if I wanted to allow the USB Safely Remove startup item too, which I approved.

USB Safely Remove is a very useful program. In addition to helping safely eject flash drives and external drives, I like the ability to apply pictures to the drive images, see information about them, etc.

Zemana advice worked perfectly. I emailed the developer, but mail delivery failure from the order page's comment section. Two easy fixes I would hope. Thanks for the software and the download tip.

Excellent program. If you have ever had an external drive crash because you removed it prematurely, you will appreciate having this. I have removed drives in the past, thinking that all operations were finished, when in fact there was some lagging process still going on. That cost me my data. This program is a reliable safeguard. Highly recommended.

Re: mapping of USB devices
I use xyployer (current version) and it does not recognize my Android phone when connecting via USB but Windows exployer opens the phone's internal & external memory cards but does not map.
Here is my question.
Can your product store the mapping of phone cards as well as other common usb devices making that stored map address available to exployer & xyployer alike?
Thank you for this generous offer & your support response to questions.

I had the GAOTD 2014 older version too on my Win 7/64. Today, I pressed the Exit option of my old version and then installed today's upgrade into the same folder. The old version was automatically deleted (except the desktop shortcut) and all is well.

Good Morning - Dual-Boot here - feeling just a little better. I installed and registered without any major problems on a Win 8.1.2 Pro 64 bit system partition & Win 10 TP Build 10041 sys partition & found it a little odd that in the Win8 side - the program took the info & started right away, BUT when installing into the Win10 partition I had to reboot into that partition in order to see the program. It appears to be functioning well now in both environments. Since I pretty much ONLY remove my USB Thumb Drive (Jump Drive, etc.) that is what I see added & warned 'removed' when it was removed. Well, I'll be trying some other tests later & if I have anything of interest - I will respond then. Have a great day & PLEASE do not catch my cold! later

Does the special offer (40% off) also apply to existing customers who previously purchased Zentimo license? I went to the site and only see discount for new purchasers. Am I looking in the wrong place? What would be the link to get discount on extending the license for another year or two?

Glad to see this program here. Since the Windows 10 TP (technical preview) the remove usb safely has not worked properly. Installed on a Windows 10 TP (10041) with no problems. This program works great registered fine with no problems was able to use this and restart my usb drives. Was also able to remove them with no problems. this is what I needed since Windows 10 is not working as far as the external drives properly.

USB has been created 20 years ago, and USB 2.0 is 15 year old, as old as XP. Nevertheless, * all * Windows versions (including Windows 8) suck at managing USB. Go figure.

I got "Zentimo xStorage Manager" here a long time ago. Works flawlessly. One great feature is the popup balloon informing that a device is suddenly ejected then inserted again while still plugged in.

Time maybe to try this more modern product. Thanks to Crystal Rich for not forgetting GOTD users.

As for this USB Safely Remove - it could be as well useful or an unnecessary/unwanted addition to the system. It's hard to decide which would be closer to the truth. Especially since the Crystal Rich Ltd, represented by Igor Tkachenko, didn't answer to the valid question raised by Jahid (comment #2):
Why USR installer is bigger than the installer for Zentimo xStorage Manager? USR seems to be only a crippled version of Zentimo.

Reply   |   Comment by Arek  –  9 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

Arek, if you're comparing the size of the USR installer on the GotD website to the size of the installer for Zentimo xStorage Manager on Zentimo's site, remember that the GotD download always includes the wrapper, which always inflates the size of the original download, sometimes doubling its size.

Had to make a comment here; I did everything according to the instructions; However, from the e-mail I received, I copied, but the program would not allow me to paste the license number; made several attempts; then I typed the whole number; checked it thoroughly; found one number wrong; made the correction; program won't accept the license; I then decided to remove the entire program; and download it again from the link in the e-mail; still; copy and paste simply will not work; went to their website; copied and pasted the number into the e-mail to them and now I am hoping they respond. getting ready to uninstall via reboot :)

mardel53,
Just reboot your computer and try to enter the key via Ctrl+C, Ctrl+V. Some program on your computer broke Windows clipboard and reboot usually cures it.

Often when you do a "cut" and "paste", whether from a menu or via Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V, you will end up with an extra "space" at the end of the pasted string. Try the cut/paste operation, then put the cursor at the end pasted string and make sure there is no extra space at the end. If there is, get rid of it. That may solve your problem.

Reply   |   Comment by Pushmataha  –  9 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+16)

Pushmataha,
Actually the program ignores any extra spaces in the start or end of the key or even in the middle of the key.

I use tray drives and also sometimes plug in test drives from my ever open boxes. OBTW can check now as I am on my Ubuntu.

I use v.4.7 from GAOTD since 2011.
For my WXPSP3 it is the only way to disconnect USB hard drives without data losses.
Not 100% disconnection but when it cannot do the job it reports what exactly process is locking the drive and I can do something or select the force disconnection if I see it is not dangerous process.
I dont know if post-XP windows needs any program like this. If you cannot say "bye XP" it is better to have the program like this.

Pretty good software. Thanks. Easily activated.
Sometimes I do have trouble with my WD portable USB hard disk that keeps popping up the message that something is accessing the drive and it cannot be stopped.
I will NOT buy another WD USB portable hard disk.
Maybe WD does not want users to remove their drives.
I NEVER have this problem with my two other Seagate USB portable hard disks.

*I am in no way promoting either WD or Seagate*      You know how ridiculous that sounds right? This isn't a bashing, more of an informational piece for you or anyone if they are unaware of what I'm about to explain. We all have experienced problems with our hardware in many ways both individually and in the case which is universal and many have experienced this problem; Evidence: read a forum. Just curious as to how much you looked into the problem and how fast you gave up. You realize there are simple problems to find out which program is accessing what right (typically called a handle)? Unlocker is an installed one that gives you an addition to the context menu, and there are plenty of portable versions that do the same; I tend to gravitate towards unlocker because I believe the right click context addition is an extremely fast method, but Windows has a BUILT IN tool accessed via TASK MANAGER under the performance tab and the Resource Monitor link (also by searching "Performance Monitor" in start menu search search win7 (not sure about higher), accessing it from the parent process "perfmon" (Performance Monitor) or by going to run and typing "perfmon.exe /res" . Have you tried anything like or similar to this?

Are they telling us that safely remove in rhe system tray only disconnects the usb stick from Windows and also that device manager doesnt power down the usb stick when stop device? In which case the programme is worth a try.

Reply   |   Comment by Harry  –  9 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-5)

You can not disable the power to the USB ports, think logically, if there is a hub on the USB port, all of your USB ports will stop working. You would need a special software installed on the specific USB drive to individually disable it and then again, how are you going to turn it back on again if the USB is not powered at all.

Reply   |   Comment by Karneu  –  9 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+5)

The functionality you are suggesting was present in Windows XP.

It resulted in the USB port in question becoming non-functional due to lack of power until the whole system was rebooted.

Installed and registered without problems on a Win 8.1.3 Pro 64 bit system. A clean install.

A Russian company with phone from Saint Petersburg.

We had a previous version USB Safely Remove 5.2.4 on August 18, 2014. Here are the old reviews: http://www.giveawayoftheday.com/usb-safely-remove-5-2/
This program has a long history back to 2005.

Upon start a resizable window opens, it shows your connected USB drives and more option to choose than in real big programs. It seems that some years of development went into the options only, needed or not.

The idea was (is still good), you can loose data, if... At least in Windows 8 this is a build in function, to eject an USB device safely, IIRC, it was also built in in previous Windows version. This program does not much more. One thing, maybe useful, you can eject a device and attach (load) it again without un- and replugging physically. This is an easy way to stop an USB drive and start it again.

Does, what it claims. A well tested and structured little tool. Makes a good impression. If you find the built in Windows options insufficient, you can take this.

I prefer the Windows "safe removal tool", don't want to have too many programs, drivers, services...

I have had problems in the past with windows 7 not wanting to removing usb drives with no explanation as to why. With USB Safely Remove, it will tell you what program or sup-program is holding things up. That added information is very helpful in deciding if it’s okay to force the removal. This occurs when using a mp3 tagger on songs on the usb drive as an example.

To activate this program you are asked to visit this page....

http://safelyremove.com/giveaway2015g.htm

There you will supply your name and an email address. My license will delivered instantly to the junk folder of my Hotmail account. I had versiom 5.1 from an earlier giveaway. I exited the program and installed this one. The install process was smooth and easy as the program used all of my previous install preferences. I like a program that does that.

As for the program itself, well I like it and use it every day on my XP system. I think Windows 8.1 users don't have quite the need for it. I don't plan to put it on my lap top. This has a lot of advantages over the Windows version. Especially for USB devices. Just to give you a tip I recently uncovered, Press Win key and "S" key together. This will bring up the list of drives That will float on the screen until you decide to close it. Much easier than opening from the task bar.

All in all I am very happy to upgrade to this version and say thank you so much to the GOTD team and Crystal Rich Ltd..

'USB Safely Remove' is an useful and multi-featured program which I have been using since 2012 when version 4.7 was offered here.

Besides Stopping and removing a device or returning back the device it has some additional features.

- a nice GUI with changeble skins and you can download skin also.

- For each device You can change and assign a drive letter permanently so as the letter will be reserved or fixed for that device only. I think it is very useful feature. No other device won't be able to use that letter but for that The program needs to be running in background.

-option for assigning the Hotkeys for Quick Stopping and removing the device.

- option for specifying the path of an alternative file manager or Windows explorer(by default) for browsing the device immediately.

- option for setting and managing the global autorun. You can set different programs ( such as virus scanner ) which will be launched after device plugging. Also any task can be called after removing and/or after stopping the device as per your setting.

- It can show the currently used/opened files or process/services ( if you run any portable program directly from USB Device or for some other reason) which are restricting to stop the device. Either you've to close the files or you can go for 'forced stop' options. Actually the 'forced stop' does not work at all, but this is safe in one way as we know the forceful stop may damage data (one warning will be shown ). In this situation the safe option is to shut down the system as the shutdown process safely disconnect all drives and devices.

There is Zentimo xStorage Manager ( commercialware) from this developer (Crystal Rich Ltd - a small Russian software company founded in 2007 ) . It is superior to USR as it has some additional options but The Graphical UI is same for both . See the Features Comparison between Zentimo xStorage Manager and USB Safely Remove. Though 'Zentimo' is superior but the setup file is lesser than 'Usb Safely Remove' . Last time the developer explained the reason by saying that 'local help file' was not available in 'Zentimo' , but This isn't true. Both programs come with a well-explained help file .

Also just check Comparison chart of the Windows native safely remove hardware tool and USB Safely Remove

Non-Commercial Alternatives :

*USB Disk Ejector - This is genearally treated as an alternative to "USB Safely Remove" though It has very less features than USB Safely Remove. So logically it consumes much much less CPU and RAM compared to U.S.R. Having a simple and clear GUI this tiny PORTABLE APP just allows you to eject usb device with ease ( there's option to set hotkey ) but can't return back that. It has the full potential to replace the Windows 'Usb Safe Removal' feature but It has a long way to go before it can compete with USB Safely Remove.

Two other very basic and simple programs :

*ProEject

*EjectUSB

## Remember USB Port Remains Active for Disabled or Safely Removed USB Device in a System except Windows XP or Windows Server 2003. The 'Windows Safely Remove' Hardware feature does not turn off or spin down the connected USB drive. It merely ensures that all outstanding operations are completed and the drive is no longer accessible in Windows, thereby preventing further transactions to and from the drive.
'USB Safely Remove' app has a feature to turn off the power of external usb disk.

Thanks
