Same thing was going to buy 'uRex DVD Ripper Platinum' for £7.18
Looks like a good offer! Was going to pay with PayPal as that is displayed as an option on their website, but when it comes to it, it only seems to accept credit or debit card. Didn't feel happy about having to use my credit card, so just settled for the giveaway, which is a ncie upgrade from 3.5.

Can't trim or rewind in "edit" function. I have no idea what for are film effects in the program for DVD Ripping. In output setting I can't find the settings for a compromise between resolution and bitrate (I think it will be 640x360), but I can do that in other software, but why not all i one?
And an interesting problem: when I chose 93MB file with a resolution of 720x576 and editing pointed frame around the movie (CROP) - smaller rectangle, after converting video resolution expands to eg 1100x468 which weights 57MB - this function has an error. In addition, when I chose one of the effects (sharpness), the resulting file has grown to 234MB (AVI format).
pros: can ripp
cons: huge bugs in edit
decision: uninstalled.

For me, it's difficult to put a lot of 'faith' in a proggie that has such obvious and glaring spelling errors as 'Cancle' (Cancel) and 'Foder' (Folder)

Just a heads up for the folks at uRexsoft: On their web site under the DVD Ripper it says "Free lift time upgrade" and in the program, when you select Menu and then Option you have the selection at the bottom to click OK or Cancle which should of course be Cancel.

Was going to pay the $9.95 lifetime upgrade, but PayPal, although shown as a possible payment method in the right-hand margin, is not available in the drop-down payment menu at the end of the form. ????

Have been a 3+ year user of SlySoft's AnyDVD and although it only rips to .ISO or .VOD files, it works flawlessly and with a minimal interface. Tried todays DVD Ripper and found parts of the interface difficult and/or not functioning. Clicking on the pencil "Edit" once a DVD track is selected it gives many what appears to be video effects to apply but the trim video area doesn't work and only moves the whole window when you try to click and drag. Ripped the track to 2 different MP4 for an iPad and general export with Closed Caption and the CC's are very fat, bold font that makes it practically unreadable with no options to select font size/type. Also noticed all the dialog windows I saw had spelled "Cancle" instead of "Cancel" which reflects on how the program was developed and lack of quality assurance. Uninstalling.

TIP: GAOTD infrequently offers DVD rippers that can also handle copy-protected DVDs, so downloading this is a no-brainer. Also, when was the last time you saw ANY ripper that handles copy-protected DVDs offer LIFETIME upgrades for only $9.95? That's unheard of. The #1 limitation of all DVD software is that DVD makers are constantly revising their disc protection methods. So eventually, you will start to run into discs that you cannot rip unless you pay for software updates. This means that for a mere $10, you are getting quite a bargain.

I have 4 rippers from various companies. I have URex DVD Ripper Platinum 2.0 from a previous giveaway and it is the most used program on my computer. I have never had a problem with it and it is easy to use. I will definitely be downloading this version.

uRex DVD Ripper Platinum takes up ~22MB installed in the program's folder -- you also get a small folder in My Documents [219 bytes], & only a few registry entries for uninstall.
Yes, it's another ffmpeg video converter that can read DVDs -- IOW a common DVD Ripper -- but its footprint in Windows is small or light enough to hang onto in case you have a problem with a DVD using your other software, or if you don't have any other rippers yet.

here's an important message: if you want to keep this app you must open the app and click on the small arrow that's pointing down next to the - and x go to options click on updates and uncheck update weekly or else it will automatic update and you will lose this free app. Gaotd do not give out updates, upgrades or tech support. to avoid this you can just purchase this app from the company for about $10.00 and you can get a life time update or upgrades. good luck!!!!

Doesn't acknowledge a Blu-ray but again - NO menu(s) - I don't care how NEW something gets - I was there when windows started (one of the original beta testers & code writers) I still want to see a pull down menu - again, if not when first installed) - why not an option (after installation) Thx GOTD & uRex

WOW this company is a real rip off! Even though I have uRex Video Converter Platinum version 4 from a prior give away I thought I would take advantage of the $9.95 price hoping it would be upgradable unlike the the give away version. So I buy it download and install it. When I check the version it's version 3 and no check for updates under help like the paid version is suppose to have. I really want my money back. You people are the biggest underhanded crooks! When you pay for a product you expect the latest version!

Successfully installed, run and worked on Win 8, 64 without problem. But I would prefer WinX DVD Ripper Platinum V7.5.4 downloaded from GOTD on April. This perfect ripper give much fast speed to finish DVD ripping task while bring amazing video output.

Seems to be almost exactly the same as the Wonderfox software mentioned above, except Wonderfox free version only rips to MPG. This one (uRex) is ripping very slowly (to MP4 at least) - seems to be running at standard speed, ie 90 mins for 90 min movie.

To make this software useful in the longterm you'll need to take advantage of their $9.95 life-time license, since it will need to be updated for the latest encryption (I paid 60 bucks for life-time DVDFab updates).

Installed and registered without problems onb a Win 8.1 Pro 64 bit system.
A company without name & address, claiming to have 9 million customers... and a "blog" with the latest entry on April 5th, 2012 and some entries from 2011. If I were the "company", I would delete those things. The 9 million customers do not blog obviously.
Upon start a modern, deep blue interface opens. You can load either a DVD or an .ISO file. The settings cannot be selected, before you load a disk. Okay, but this can be confusing. On the other hand, it makes some sense.
The small window cannot be resized, the different output options with the pull down menu make a modern and good impression.
The first attempt to convert an ISO Video leads to a 264 bytes "finished!" .MP4. Something goes wrong. The second attempt with another .ISO created the .MP$ file fast and in good quality. Good is the option to combine all converted chapters to one file.
My feelings about this software are mixed. On the positive side a modern DVD Ripper, which seems to work - with some problems (read above) - on the other hand a "global player" with 9 million customers and no time to update information...
Uninstalled via reboot. Keep it, if you do not have a ripper, which you use regularly.

It looks like identical to Wondershare DVD Ripper Premium and this makes me think that this company is closely related to the Wondershare one.
This means that this GAOTD is an excellent product deserving a try, especially if you need a tool capable of removing almost any DVD protection out there in order to copy the DVD content elsewhere (IOS devices, Android, Tablets etc...).
Can also extract audio or music from DVD as MP3, WMA, WAV, AAC and M3A!!

As best FREE ALTERNATIVE I recommend a brand new product from Wonderfox which is surprisingly very good and fast at rippind DVD, bypassing protections like CSS, Region Code, Sony ARccOS, Disney X-project DRM etc...
