Let BeeConverter endow your video with vitality!

UnHackMe was initially created as anti-rootkit software, but currently it has more features: scanning for "unwanted programs", checking for junk files, created by PUPs, scanning of Windows startup, services, drivers, testing Windows shortcuts, scanning for rootkits, testing the host files and DNS settings, testing all used files on Virustotal. The program uses its own database to detect what is better to remove from your PC. The important advantage of UnHackMe is that you can find an unknown malware by inspecting UnHackMe information.

UnHackMe eliminates various types of malicious software:

  • Search redirecting;
  • Popup ads;
  • Potentially unwanted programs (PUP);
  • Unwanted processes;
  • Slow browsing;
  • Rootkits;
  • Trojans;
  • Spyware;
  • Keyloggers.

System Requirements:

Windows XP/ Vista/ 7/ 8/ 8.1/10 (x32/x64); 256 MB RAM; 40 MB of free disk space; Compatible with all known antiviral software

Can anyone tell me if Unhackme coexists peacefully with eSet's Internet Security?

I have no idea how to use the software with the result from the scan. I don't want to mess up my computer settings or anything.

UnHackMe labels every single program that it doesn't recognize as potentially harmful, forcing you to wade through most of your installed software to see if UnHackMe actually found anything malicious.

Sloppy, bad, a waste of time.

Hi - I installed. It looks interesting but so complicated that I am not sure what to remove, make positive, etc. I am afraid of removing something that works well now. Too complicated for me. Thanks.

UnHackMe has been around since 2005, that's 15 years. It makes me laugh (seriously, I laughed out loud) that people have to make comments like "I doubt the program's capabilities" and "Can we not get software that "just works?" or "It is infected with XXX virus. Honestly, how could a program be around for 15 years by" not working" or "being infected"?

Reply   |   Comment by Dennis  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+21)

Dennis, that may well be. However, I was disappointed with the results on three laptops. Obvs you know more than I do.

I've downloaded this twice previously from this site. One problem I've had with it is that the licence is 'lifetime' but only for this version and the program automatically updates itself which then terminates the licence. This happened to both of the previous versions I downloaded here.

Does anyone know how to stop the automatic updates (of the program itself, not the AV db)?

From the Licence Agreement:

"(f) Updates.
The UNHACKME periodically checks for updates from Greatis Software
and downloads and installs them for you. By accepting this
agreement, you agree to receive these types of automatic updates
without any additional notice."

Reply   |   Comment by JB  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+12)

JB, Thanks to Peter for pointing out where to turn off the auto updating.

I would have expected that the version that has a licence that doesn't allow updates would have had that turned off by default.

Reply   |   Comment by JB  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+10)

JB, the update check is default on, but "install updates automatically" is off. At least in this program version. So it shouldn't be a problem. Check it yourself in the program options!

Reply   |   Comment by Julia  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

JB,

You can customize Updating and Privacy settings via UnHackMe, Options, Advanced.

Furthermore, I'm not sure what to make of this thing. It's showing so may files that I doubt the program's capabilities. Going to uninstall it on three laptops immediately. Better luck next time, folks, but this thing isn't for me.

You've been warned. Unless you know what you're doing, and believe me, I do, this is going to cause problems.

Reply   |   Comment by Peter  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+5)

Peter, as you intimated UnhackMe is not for the novice! It digs deeper than typical software and you will get results that are "false positives" or not necessarily harmful to your computer. It's up to the user to determine which are harmful and which aren't. But if you know what you're doing and are looking for things that antivirus and malware detection software may have missed, like rootkits, it can be invaluable. I've been using the free version for years.

It's been running scans since I installed it. It's almost 2021. Can we not get software that "just works?"

This thing goes into a scanning loop on three laptops that never ends. I also wants to auto-update, and I can't find any way to turn that option off.

Reply   |   Comment by Peter  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+3)

Whoops, found it. Turn off auto-update and other not necessary things can be found in Options / Advanced.

Scanning is painfully slow, not sure if this is because it's being very through or what. It did manage to sniff out some PUPs that I'd no idea were on my system. Too soon to say if this is good, bad or indifferent, only way to find out is to give it a fair crack of the whip then decide. Undecided, but inclined to think initial scans take longer as program has to learn what's good and what's bad.

Reply   |   Comment by Blackhat  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+4)

Blackhat,
The scan seems to do the first part, then waits for you to check the list before proceeding to the next phase.

This has been given way many times before.
An excellent bit of software which has a long history of being bug free.
It runs seamlessly in the background so you often forget it it there working away for you.
Just be aware that like any other antivirus, rootkit, malware killer etc that you should understand what you are doing when removing what it finds as "positives".
A wrong move can break your PC

This was one of the very first programs to dedicate itself to rootkits at a time when they were the death of many a hard drive. I was a tech back in that day and it was a major tool in my kit. Now that I'm a retired geek, all I can do is recommend it. I know the fellow geeks behind the software are dedicated white-hats that not only stay on top of things but forge ahead. It brings a smile to my face every time I see an update for this program. Keep fighting the good fight guys! - wt

Other suggestions to the developer:

1) Reanimator (RegRun) often freezes
2) when I check updates with reanimator, it doesn't let me know if updates are available.
It would be nicer if it said "I'm downloading updates", or "no new updates", and then let me see for 10 seconds the message (that I can close by myself, by the way).
3) I'd like to see normal/usual icons for minimize, maximize, close, restore.

I had a previous version of this installed. So I uninstalled the old version and installed this new one. My Avast virus nearly had a heart attack and found that in the hackmon.exe file was IDP.SEMS.Wannacry1. (Which of course is nasty.) Moved this to the virus chest but thought I should give a heads up here.

Hi Big Col. :-)

Avast engine on virustotal says it's clean, like other 69 engines.
Only SecureAge APEX says "Malicious".

Big Col,

It's Avast/AVG bug that they cannot fix for several months.
I posted false positive reports and they removed detection, but with every new version, the problem repeats again.
Post your false positive. It should help.

Anyone compared this alongside malware bytes free that can mention if it's any better?
Thanks!

Hi joe giveaway o'day. :-)

Malwarebytes free is more user-friendly than unhackme.
Unhackme is an advanced tool that should not be used by non-tech-savvy users, at least with its advanced functions.

Maybe the paid version with online support by unhackme people could be better for non-tech-savvy users, but I don't have experience with this option.

It will run in conjunction with Bitdefender with no problems.
It's most likely the same with all Anti-Virus Programs.

Hi everybody, and Dmitrys. :-)

1) I like the new interface, but the scaling has to be improved.
After the confirmation (save button), it should ask confirmation if it's ok.
The program window could become so bigger that the user can't revert the changes.

2) Some windows are cut (at least in my configuration).
Especially in the scan and options windows.

Hi TK. :-)

"Desktop Secret Lock" is another Greatis software.
It seems we can "disable recommended offers" in UnHackMe options, notifications, using the standard lifetime license for home users.
After we paid for it obviously.

That option is untickable in the giveaway version.

I have an earlier version on this PC (from Giveaway of the Day). If I install this newer version on my laptop it won't affect the license of the older version on my desktop will it?

Reply   |   Comment by Andre Rodrigs  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

Hi Andre Rodrigs. :-)

You could try to install this newer version in another folder.
But I'm not sure if the older version won't be affected.

If you installed shadow defender, you could try to enable the shadow mode and try this new unhackme installation.
Otherwise, create a new system restore point before the installation.
Better again if you create a system image with your preferred tool.

Reply   |   Comment by xilolee  –  3 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)
