#68, Typing Assistant suck. I tried it before, it's just one big bug (as usual for a Chinese software). You're an author right ? You'd better make it work before promoting here.

#66, canyon, learn something about computer security. Decent firewalls are designed to prevent just the sort of scenario you described. Type Booster doesn't access the Internet via any method.

54: Malware can tunnel through the browser at port 80. Your Firewall won't recognize it unless you would inspect ANY web access of your browser.

I checked the TypeBooster website and it is really shady. No sign of identity whatsoever. Completely anonymous. There is always a questionable reason when a 'company' hides their origin/location.

+1 for PhraseExpress. It is free and has all the features of TypeBooster, Ditto AND Clipmate combined. At least the functionality I need.

people download this, it's useful! believe me, it helps you type better, if you have problems with spelling or do not know many words, meaning that you need to build your vocabulary, or if you just wish to be reminded of certain words, people this is the right tool for you!

i'm an author and poet, i know that this program works and i've already installed and tried it

so far i've not encountered any problems, except that it may feel kind of bothersome for some who don't like having words appearing before them as they type

people this little program does what it says

ok that's all i wanted to say

although it is about to expire,

take care

Cospond - I, for one, appreciate Whiterabbit aka Stephen's post to the links for the game giveaways! Stephan - please DO keep posting them! I am sure others do as well. Compared to all the USELESS comments left here - Stephen's ARE beneficial. Nobody said you have to read his comments! or is someone holding a gun to your head to do so? Signing off with my useless comment about todays Giveaway.

If you know how to type you have no need for this program unless you are one that has to do the same thing over and over again. If that is the case then there are much better programs for that.

Remember there are different keyboards for different uses that can be of great help to apecial types of writing.

This program is more trouble to a typest than it is worth.

I am not a real good typest but the lady across from me is very good and she has three different keyboards attached to her computer as I type this. She types faster than I talk.

nevertheless, I won't give this a thumbs down just because I don't need it. Instead, I didn't vote, because I feel that it would be wrong to vote positive when I didn't try the program, and it would be wrong to vote negative for the reason given above.

The one typing assistant program that was a GAOTD that I found truly useful was Comfort Keys Pro. When I broke my wrist, its onscreen virtual keyboard was "virtually" a lifesaver.

I agree that typing assistants are good for people who use the "hunt and peck" method of typing or type slowly for other reasons. I don't know what my typing speed is now (except that I'm used to typing almost at the speed of thought) but in 9th grade I hit 120 wpm no errors on a test and hate having to wait on any program to try to catch up!

@24 "Simply won’t load on Windows 3.1. I tried a set of tricks I generally use to get things working in 3.1, but none of them worked. :("

Windows 3.1?! Where have you been for the last 30 years?? The footprint for a simple app such as this is greater than even Microsoft's earliest bloatware! ROTFLMAO!!! Seriously, I find it hard to believe that a machine built that long ago still functions today. Seems like another eon. Sorry if I offended you but, really... 3.1???

Congratulations, I believe, may be in order. It still works?! Amazing.

Have used a couple of this type of program in the past, found one called As-U-Type, (free trial and cost is 39). I can not say enough good about the As-U-type program, it does everything well, works in all programs, does it fast and they have a great support team. Tried the free one offered here today, really sucks compared to As-U-Type.

Does anyone know what the hell a "messager" is?

For all the people saying "oh, this could be spyware", that's a valid concern for this type of software, however, the chances of this particular offering being spyware are near zero. They would have had to figure out a way to get past the top-rated firewall.

#39, shellyddd, the paid version of ZoneAlarm isn't bad. The Matousec Firewall Challenge is good for keeping tabs on firewall security.

#18, MrRoadRage.com, I like ClipMate (commercial). It's a bit cluttered, but does just about everything you could want a clipboard extender to do. It even has a spelling checker/correcter. As for freeware, I used to use the open-source Ditto clipboard extender, but it's not really Vista compatible. It's also for people who are willing to hunt around for scattered documentation and figure things out (like a lot of open-source projects). I did like its minimalist but versatile interface.

My all time favorite is the free: SuperKeys. http://www.vellosoft.com/SuperKeys/sk1.html

My personal need is not so much in repeated sentences, but having special characters handy when I need them (like æ, ø, å, é). SuperKeys is wonderful for that. Yes, it has a keylogger built-in there, but no amount of touch-typing can bring those letters in as smoothly.

"Phrase Express" sounds good, but I can't find anything stating what operating systems it runs on. I use machines dating from Windows 98 to XP, so this is useful to know.

When stuff is vaguely described as "all Windows", it sometimes turns out to mean "all recent Windows, and only if you've installed a new video card within the last six months".

By the way: Props to WhiteRabbit for the daily games.

How does this differ from Typing Assistant given away before? Bottom line I think it depends of how well you type. If you can type 50 words a minute with no errors this won't appeal to you. You will type fast enough that the screen will become annoying. For those that hunt and peck like myself, you may find it more appealing. To each his own. Thank you GAOTD for the great work. Thank you to the publisher, Type Booster for the offer.

I have seen much worthless comments on this page and nobody says anything... like the comment about "short skirt and bring me my coffee"!!!! Was that a constructive comment? I don't think so! Well, the program is not really learning to type, but boosting, as claimed; More of a worthless software, but it can help for some.
Don't trust my reviews that much, as I have only been here since, oh...PD Particles, I think? I gave a review that people liked, but since then, I have not been very succesful in making people happy with my reviews. Oo, boy, did I get wacked with thumbs downs on my review of PD Artist.
Well here's my review,
It's pretty good, works with Wordpad, Notepad, MS word, and many, many other word processers. So, if you're not so good at typing, get this! If you're good, don't consider it, or if you don't even know how to type, don't consider it.

About games: since there doesn't seem to be a link on the "www.giveawayoftheday.com" web site to the games site, I usually have to resort to hunting for it. (If I type it in I invariably misspell it or make it "games" or something else that doesn't work.) If it were easy to find the games giveaway site, I might be more sympathetic to those who complain about Whiterabbit's link; but since his is about the only place I run into it, I appreciate it.

I'm guessing that i wont like this at all becuase i hate "t9" on my cell phone when texting. thanks but no thanks giveawayoftheday im already a really fast typer and i dont need a program to mess me up and add characters i didn't want or need, this may be a great program for slower typers, but not for us faster typers as for us it seems pointless, and will just slow us down! =) lol (btw typed this in under 15 seconds) hahaha! =)

I am using this program for a couple of months now, and I am satisfied with it.

If you write only in one language, it could be that a software like this does indeed slow you down and hinder more than it helps. In my situation, however, Type Booster is very helpful. I write in three languages on a daily basis, and pretty often I have doubts how to spell a certain word when I am not writing in the language I am most fluent in. That is where this software comes into the picture. I have configured it that after three or four keystrokes I get a list of options, and see that correct spelling of the word I just was trying to write. Currently I use Type Booster to assist me to write in German, English and Brazilian Portuguese. Even if the word lists doesn't feature every word of the language, it is still a big help.

Type Booster doesn't come with multi-language support out of the box, but it can be implemented with ease. You have to configure the languages you want to use in the "Regional and Language Options" in the Control Panel. Only an English dictionary is shipped with the program, but you can build additional dictionaries by yourself (which isn't too difficult), just Google for "Dictionaries for International Ispell", get the file, make some small modifications and place the edited file into the "lib" folder where Type Booster was installed. Once you have the languages you need correctly configured, you'll have them showing in the language bar. After that, you will be able to switch the language Type Booster uses to offer suggestions on-the-fly, without leaving the application. (See http://img519.imageshack.us/my.php?image=tblanguagebarrl7.png)

I have the German and Portuguese dictionaries, just let me know if you are interested.

tell us all something. does whiterabbit aka steven work for www.giveawayoftheday.com or is he just another joe blow that enjoys posting all of his stale computer games over at the forums?

personally, i enjoy visiting g.o.t.d., and g.g.o.t.d., and i'll bet i'm not the only one who feels whiterabbit aka steven ought to keep his game spamming over at the g.g.o.t.d.'s site.

this site is for trying and discussing different computer programs, not games. leave the gaming info over at g.g.o.t.d..

my opinion of today's giveaway: just like the "word" texting for cell phones, i find this useless. i'd rather do things the old school way.

thanks, but see you tomorrow.

Stephen does the weekdays now and GOTD does the weekends. I, for one look forward to his posting the link to the GOTD games forum for the game.

As for todays giveaway I will pass as I prefer my pick n peck typing to haveing a pogram that tries to put words into my fingers. So thanks anyways gotd - this is not a program for me, but maybe useful to others. :-)

Frank @ #11:

"The problem with Type Booster is that suggestion popups for each and every single word are rather distracting than being helpful."

If it's anything as annoying as predictive txt on mobile phones (and it sounds kind of similar from your description, Frank) then I think it'd do my head in :P Those kind of 'features' just slow the whole typing process down, IMO.

I find TinySpell+ about as much as most people need. I've recommended it a lot. Worth a small payment.

You hear a subtle ding, Crtl ; - and usually your correct spelling is near the top of the popup. It retraces yr typing and puts you back where you were.

If not in list, up up up Enter adds to the dict'y. Or just A.

Doesn't really matter as this is just another example of "free for a day" doesn't make it good or better then freeware.
"Phrase Express" smokes this typing assistant & its always free & perfectly compatible with Vista ! It can be downloaded here:
