Painting and drawing with natural media brushes Paint Studio makes no compromises in offering the best of the TwistedBrush painting engine. Presented in an interface that's perfectly suited for creation of new art work using expressive brushes from thick wet oil paints and fluid watercolors to slick oil pastels and fine airbrushes and everything in between.
Tree Studio is a product born from TwistedBrush Pro Studio but with a focus on 2D tree creation with a simpler, streamlined interface. Tree Studio has pairs of brushes for each tree type. One for the frame and one for the leaves. The frame is algorithmically generated so it will be different each time. This allows you can create an endless variety of each tree type.
Luminance Studio is a Pixarra product in the Studio series with a focus on painting with luminance for both natural media and design style of artwork. It builds on the success of other Studio products by Pixarra, giving you, the artist, a tool dedicated to achieving your vision quicker and better than other options.
Selfie Studio provides you the creative tools to edit your photos to get just the look you want.
The Blob brushes allow you to model and shape your objects and then paint them with the included brushes with the results being crisp lines you might see in illustration software but without the need to mask anything. You can even continue to shape your objects after they are painted.
So wheres the software? When clicking setup it just says activated, then asks me to install software informer. No twisted brush anywhere to be seen. Okay then.

Craig, Been trying for 2+ hrs to get this to work, and followed your suggestion, as well. I get "invalid registration," alas. So frustrating, as set-up simply refuses to connect to gotd. Thanks, anyway--it's not as though I haven't succeeded in acquiring many useful programs through this site.

I've had my eye on this program for a while, so I'm glad to see it as a GAOTD. It downloaded quickly and installed in a flash (Win 7pro x64) after I followed the directions in the README. Excellent giveaway. Thanks so much, GAOTD and Pixarra!

Hi John F,
2) Please, try File -> Reset All. This should help.
3) You should be able to save your projects in more file formats, including *jpeg, *bmp, *gif, etc.
4) This is not true. You can download the TwistedBrush PDF Manual from here: https://media.screensteps.com/exported/pixarra/1477/118178/TwistedBrush_Pro_Studio_User_Guide.pdf
5) There is a support forum - http://www.pixarra.com/forum.html

John F,
Yes, we are currently having an issue with the PSD export, but we are working to resolve it.

Pixarra Support, the problem is on exporting to psd file you are saving the intermediate tga file in the programs installed folder heirachy so windows is virtualising the unathorised write to the current users users\Username\Appdata\Local\VirtualStore\Program(x86)\ and so on
Which in itself is fine IF the program method that converted that intermediate TGA file into a PSD file was also virtilisation aware and was able to read the virtualised file rather than looking at the protected real program files(x86) heirachies folder aand of course the temp TGA is not there and it fails silently. John F workaround of running the program as an administrator is the clue that it was filesytem virtualisation problem because the temp file is not written to the systems %temp% folder where it should be. Please do not "fix" this by making the program demand elevated rights but just fix the problem and use the systems %temp% folder for temporary files!
Save | Cancel
Pixarra Support, solved it... you use imconv_V1918.exe to convert the file... you can specify the path in the fashion %temp%\Twisted_brush\temp001.tga and the output path to whereever the users chosen.
Or you can kludge it... create the temp sub-folder in the
C:\Program Files (x86)\Pixarra\TwistedBrush folder and change the ACL on JUST THAT FOLDER to allow members of the USERS group full control of its contents. That is the simplest way to get around the wrong programming that is kinda ok (not best practice though). Best practice is you don't change the inheritied ACL's in the Program Files heirachy ever since it compromises one of Microsofts essential security layers creating a place a system wide program could install itself without elevated rights and anyone can access and change the contents of that folder and any subfolders it has.

I am going to try the current version 24 to see if it has the same bugs/omissions as 23 and 22 have... Ooopsie just looking at what version I had installed in the default folder the installer chooses and it was an older giveaway 17.28 and that one HAS image scroll bars if the image area is larger than the windows display area... looks like they removed the essential feature sometime between 17 and 22... *shakes head* maybe a competetor bought the company and is now trying to sobotage it to drive people to the new owners products like happens online often like yahoo messenger and other chat services.
And Yup current version 24 has NO scroll bars and the input box for the key is again free to go behind the about splash screen with no way to bring it back to the front or close the program and start again without using task manager or equivilent to end the stuck task and try again... obviously the giveaway key does not work in version 24 they are version specific of course lol
Both the bugs I've reported are EASILY reproducable the license key entering bug start the unregistered version 24 ( happens in 23 too but you'll like have already registered that) and click help about to bring up the About splash screen with the three buttons above the lower edge. Press the lower right button labeled "Enter Key" and just try clicking on the image on the About splash screen underneath and the input box is then concealed by the About box coming forward and obscuring it... now you will have to use an external utility to end the program to get out of that. And the lack of scroll bars is demnstrated by either setting the page size to a bigger size than the windows display area (which you cannot do in the trial) or ZOOM in on the View menu to 200% or 300% or decrease the window size until there is insufficient screen area to display all of the 800x600 page area. Maybe the next giveaway will be 25 or better with at least these bugs fixed....

When the image area is larger than the window display area why are there no horizontal and vertical scroll bars to allow us to navigate around the canvas whilst zoomed in to edit in detail? on both Win10 and Vista the problem exists... seems a bit short sighted! 22.03 had exactly the same problem... to me that would seriously constrain its use in ANY serious art department.

Hi TK,
Scroll bars are intentionally not used for panning when zooming into an image. Scroll bars can be cumbersome to work with and significantly interfere when painting near the edge of a page. Without a scroll bar seamless painting at and off the edge of the page is supported. There are numerous ways to pan an image when zoomed in including:
Use the Page View Page panel for a mini view of the entire page.
Use the Pan tool to drag the page.
Use the spacebar to immediately enable the Pan tool as long as the spacebar is held dragging on the page will pan it.
Note: the P key also works.
Use the arrow keys on the keyboard to shift the page.
The Quick Command Panel also has dedicated panning buttons that can be enabled.
Many art programs don't use scroll bars anymore because there are better ways.

Pixarra Support, Hi thanks for the reply. I wondered how this could be usable this way... but for me on a laptops with Synaptics touch pads the conventional scroll bar interface which the Synaptics touch pad scrolling guestures hook into is far less cumbersome for me than any of these methods that either require me to either leave the touchpad and use big steps with keys or move the pointer from the work area to the page view window and then drag the canvas around.
I would recommend that you re-instate the conventional scroll-bar user interface by default but have all these other supposedly less cumbersome methods available for those that have less well adapted pointer controls that do not have built in scroll interface. Like graphics tablets without scroll gestures or two button mouse with no wheel..
At worst some visible user interface to scroll the canvas should be enabled when it is installed one should not make users guess what non-standard windows controls are used by this new program I just downloaded? It is less than familiar compared with the likes of photoshop versions I've used and other graphics programs and making learning curves non-intuative by hidden controls for really basic functions kinda makes it less likely an end user will open up this program to do some graphics work rather than a more conventionaly laid out and controlled program that may not have all the capabilities that yours has but is just inuatively usable so the work can be done without fighting to control the interface!
But thanks for your reply maybe one day I'll be tempted to try and use this for something creative now I know it can scroll around the canvas again if not as easily as the old version 17 giveaway did.

TK, thank you for the feedback and suggestions. We will consider if scroll bars will added as an option.

contrary to system requirements it installs and functions just as well under vista as 7 or above... maybe they formally test it on windows 7 and above machines but so far there is no build requirement for windows 7 or above. The only build requirement is these are built for Windows NT 6.0 or above which is Windows Vista even if it installs under XP it will not run as XP will call tbrush.exe not a valid win32 application as its configured for Vista and above.
That said there is a bug with the layering of the overlaid "window" layers where it anounces that its a trial... firstly it is not properly on top of the GUI box from the program underneath and when one clicks the button to enter the key the input box layer that apears over the top of the splash box is not locked in place on top of the layers so if one goes to aother program like notepad to get the license key and try to come back to the input box its gotten burried between the layers and there is no apparent way to bring it back to the top to enter/paste in the key and submit it... this means the UI is locked up and I had to use task manager to force end task as all the standard windows controls were inoperative as the input box has no windows controls on it and it was no longer in context... each added layer on the GUI like registration splash screen should be always on top in priority of the existing GUI layers and when the enter key operation is initiated the input box should be locked in place on top of the previous layers so it can't be lost until the key is entered or the operation canaceled.
I was able to install this in a different folder to the previous giveaway 22.03 and although the start menu items and desktop icons were taken over by the new installation the original installation remained intact and its license remained active. I must admit I have not found a need to use this program over the years and all the graphics work I've needed to do has be done in an old paint shop pro or an old version of photshop. But I am not a graphic artist by education or trade so would not normally need a brush that is twisted ;-)

I got the previous Twisted Brush 22.03 version GAOTD about a year ago. Would like to know what is available in this version, that was not in the previous one? If it is possible to know, that is. I'll check by following the links provided.
I would like to say that the version I currently have has been a good one, though I use it just a few times a month. I've not had much trouble if any getting information on how to do certain things I could not figure out on my own, so there's at least a good resource of help available with this program. Most of the tools are easy to figure out with no help for an artist such as myself.
I will recommend this program for art minded people that want a good paint program. I'm still exploring my version, and I am thinking about going for this version, which I believe won't be too different from my version, such that I would have to learn the tools over again.
Cheers!

Installed and registered without a problem. Program definitely does not like my small Wacom pen tablet. Pen mapping is all over the place, sometimes it's a mouse, sometimes it's a pen. Closing TwistedBrush brings everything back to normal. I will try re-booting, but this does not bode well for your software.

Well, I tried re-booting and it made no difference. Windows 10 Pro, 64bit with a Wacom Bamboo pen tablet and TwistedBrush can't handle the tablet. Uninstalled.

ZloY GreY, PLEASE READ THE FILE CALLED README.TXT in the zip archive... it's called that for a reason! Maybe it should be called ReadMe1st.txt would that help? Hint if you dive for the setup.exe before you do anything... and have problems don't complain because you press the button to install software informer and it then follows your command and installs software informer... at the first sign of problems READ the readme.txt it is not just zip file padding! After all if you are new to any site runing any executable just because its there risks all sorts of problems... whilst reading a readme.txt file poses NO RISK and may prevent future problems... This advice applies to all sites that provide zip bundled installers.
BTW welcome to the site :)
