I wish software companies would tell people what improvements have been made when they upgrade their software.

I had a previous copy of this and I think it registered itself without me having to do anything.

As to a comparison to the WinX product, this program claims to be able to do upscaling whereas I don't think the WinX program can, at least I can't see that function after having a quick look around WinX Platinum Ripper.

Of course we don't know how well that function works.

This is an expiring time giveaway not an actual software giveaway. I'll pass.

Nevermind. I made a boo boo. It appears there is no expiration date, from what I can see.

I downloaded the install, unpacked it, ran the install.
It made the folders in my Program Files and put an Icon on my desktop.
I clicked the Icon and it stated that a new program is requesting access to my system, accept button and cancel button. I clicked the accept button and the system paused, then disappeared without actually starting the program. I rebooted and repeated with the same results. no running program window and no error msg. I'm running Windows Vista. I expected more from Tippard, as I have other Tippard programs on my system with no problems.

As for your said-- it failed to launch the program, right?

And the system pop up a prompt message to ask you to accept or cancel, so could you send us the screenshot of relevant page for checking?

Thank you for your cooperation in advance

If you used a fake email and their mailings bounce, they turn off the program just after the giveaway is over.

Downloaded, extracted exe file, installed fine, opened with enter code display (to obtain code click on appropriate button, takes you to their site, enter name and email and click; reg number received via email instantly.) Opened the programme, inserted a purchased previously DVD and, from the screen menu that popped up, I made my selection and the programme went into action. Incredibly easy, so far .... but .... Avast then flashed up a warning window, the contents read: "This file might be dangerous (converter exe) It's been submitted for investigation at the Avast virus lab. We're currently questioning the file and it's starting to crack. You'll be hearing from us soon." Anyone have any advice? Thanks.

Snoopy, No advice but I just installed it and Bit defender didn't warn me...

Reply   |   Comment by PaulF  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+4)

Snoopy, why restrict yourself to just one virus checker?

You're presumably aware that an antivirus is only as good as the virus signature database it uses, and that these databases can vary a lot.

Some AV providers are useless, their databases so inaccurate that they repeatedly "identify" threats that aren't threats at all. Some other AV providers are pretty good but fallible, just like we all are, so from time to time they flag up what's known as a "false positive" -- in other words, they alert you to a threat that isn't a threat at all.

Using a single solitary AV as a reliable source of information is always inadvisable. Just because Avast is having a problem with this Tipard software doesn't mean a thing. What matters is if many AVs have trouble with it.

The way to find out is to go to the Google-owned VirusTotal website (a search engine will bring you the address) and upload the file which seems to be troublesome. VirusTotal will then check it against dozens of different AVs and report back. There is no charge for this service.

I never run a new executable on my computer without running a VirusTotal check first. It's the only safe way to go. And I never, ever depend on a single antivirus provider to be 100% accurate -- nor should you.

Update (day after Giveaway), no feedback received from Avast. Many thanks to PaulF and Carolynne for the much appreciated feedback. The programme works very well. Highly recommended.

same comment: "It says 'you will receive and annual licence in your mailbox' . Does that mean I have to buy a licence after one year?"

Reply   |   Comment by Mariano  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+5)

You want us to do your thinking for you? You mean you can't figure out what an annual licence is? Annual: 12 months, also known as 1 year. There are 365 days in a year. Any other questions you can't figure out, we are here to teach you.

Reply   |   Comment by ROy  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-65)

ROy, maybe you should try thinking he knows what a annual license is he was asking if he has to pay after a year duh

Reply   |   Comment by Glenn  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+24)

Mariano, One-year trial licenses have been common on this site for a while. However, the program is sometimes given away again before they year is up.

Reply   |   Comment by Michael Summerset  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+14)

Mariano, I assume you're asking if the program stops working after a year or if it still works but no updates or tech advice, valid question.

Annual means a year, 12 months, or 365 days. Hope that educates you.

Reply   |   Comment by Roy  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-54)

Patrick , Yes it means that this giveaway license expires in one year. If you go to the tipard purchase page, you will recognise, that you can buy an annual license for the price mentioned above ($27.30) or an unlimited license for a higher price.

Reply   |   Comment by danceasy  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+15)

Patrick , I hope by now you have read the replies to Mariano's similar question. I understand that the question is actually "does this stop working at the end of a year?" It is most annoying that this site and the vendors are less forthcoming, especially when they get our email addresses and keep spamming us later, in not specifying if the program will continue working (just no support or updates), or if they stop working. Of course, we users could provide feedback on the programs, more than just "I can't read the readme", or "It doesn't install on X" , but we are often just testers to them.

Menu > About > reveals nothing about product capabilities, trial, registration, license, nothing.

Peter Blaise, I "think" that if you had the previous giveaway, it automatically registers. That's the only conclusion I've come to. Because the about does not state that it's trial, and there is no "Register" on the menu. Not sure that I'm correct though.

[ MsRose59 ],

You are probably right. I thought I checked for a preexisting version and didn't see one, but:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Tipard Studio\Tipard DVD Ripper\Tipard DVD Ripper.exe"

is the place to look.

I'll try another computer that I'm confident does not have it already, and confirm.

Thanks.
