Yes it is a gif editor doesn't allow you to import anything other than an existing gif. It is not a gif maker.

You can open a gif then import images (jpg, png, png with alpha, etc) like in any real gif editor.
So to make an original gif you open one with similar "canvas" dimensions as your own Art, then import your stuff and delete the original images.
It absolutely *can* be done, but it's an idiotic workflow.
I use ULead's gif editor and it does not force such an unproductive workflow upon the end user.
Thundersoft makes a lot of products that would be useful if they did not force strange workflow on people - their offerings are entirely too specialized and they need to open up to a more general workflow if they want to expand their user base to include Crazy Hippy Artists like me!

I do a lot of animation and am quite keen on any animation software so I may have gone a bit over the top.
No offense was meant and I didn't think anything bad about you, I just write a bit ... oddly.

Kind of disappointed in the functionality though. Like the last Thundersoft GIF Tool (video to gif) it is entirely too limited and focused on the one workflow they want you to use.
This may be nice if you want to edit an existing gif, but for us Artists it's a huge let down.
It has a way to import your own images (the only way I make gif files) but only after opening an existing gif! No way to make an original one from scratch (except possibly opening one and adding your own frames, then deleting the others) (but that would be silly because the image size would need to match exactly, and possibly other parameters I didn't bother checking because I couldn't begin by importing my own image sequence!).
A nice offer if you don't make original stuff, or just have a need for a lightweight gif editor to work on existing files, but I cannot recommend it for original work.

Try this -
Paint with brush. OR Hold shift and shade with brush or hit Control so now brush picks up background and acts like an eraser.

I have an old copy of ULead's gif editor and it does all I need, plus more - but it's old and was looking for a more modern one.
I'll have a look at Photoscape but my post was mostly informative for those who may not want to find out the hard way how unnecessarily limited this product is.
