Hi, does this software contain viruses? First chrome blocked, I went around that now Windows defender prevented it from being installed because it might put pc at risk. Yes or no?

Will Text Edit Plus 5.7 format in plain text with line breaks?
That's what I really need. Atlantis Word Processor will do
everything but that.

Google Chrome considers the download dangerous.

Yet it has 0 hits at VirusTotal.

Vovsoft Text Edit Plus is not just a text editor.

Vovsoft Text Edit Plus has loads of text manipulation tools not easily found or accomplished elsewhere.

Hey, I sometimes use the [ Run ] command strip-window as a text editor - whatever is appropriate at the moment.

I recommend Vovsoft Text Edit Plus as a useful and unique resource tool.

Peter Blaise, I let it download; my experience with GOTD is that they do not allow any malware in their Giveaways. One of only two places I have confidence when I download from their site that the program downloaded with be Safe.

To [ JonE ] and all, especially Vovsoft,

I report browser blocks and VirusTotal hits and other bangups for everyone, especially developers, to see how their offering lands in the real world.

I have programs from the 3 remaining free software sites that have browser blocks and hits at VirusTotal - no site is free of these.

I know how to work around those and decide for myself what I trust and do not trust and why.

I have at least 4 programs with hits at VirusTotal running on all my computers:

-- OOSoftware Syspectr,
-- Microsoft SysInternals Process Explorer,
-- Teamviewer,
-- Boost by Reason

I believe reporting browser blocks, and VirusTotal hits helps make the review page complete and informative.

And thanks for the speculation as to why these things bang into security walls - very informative.

We each must be 100% responsible for our computers.

That's why I have no antivirus or anti malware software running ever on any computer.

I'm the boss, they are not.

I use editpad the lite (free) version, which I've been using for several years now. It has everything that I need.

Terrible software .. I added line numbers to a text file, and can't undo.
The undo is disabled .. and this is really a must-work feature.
And all the icons (at toolbar) are so small (I am using 1920x.. resolution).
Developer really needs to update the UI and check that all the features are workable.

It has no help file. Not a single word. Nothing on their home page. I could not test their text compare feature because of lack of how-to information.

onderzoeker, demonstrating the software features in a video is not a user guide.

paul jacob,
Not only that. These videos go much too fast to follow and absorb, also they are usually not in English but in country-dialect American, hard to catch the words.

No offence to the developer, but MS WordPad does all of that and on top you can insert real pictures, works with one hundred different fonts and you can change the size of the text at will, you can align text to left, right, center and many many more other features, like BOLD, italics, underline, strike through, highlights with color and it can search, find and replace. What else you need?

Alright, I have installed it, and it does seem fairly versatile.... But I am wondering if it can be made to read old WORDSTAR files, with the high-bit stripped off, to show just the text?

I don't have any WS file to hand to test it on, but reading Zen's comment below, I wonder WHAT to click on for encoding if you can click on "encoding" to get UTF8. (In fact, I see it is only that, or ANSI which are available.)

The only alternative is to use a utility to STRIP off the high bit -- and the last time I tried that it did not work on a 64-bit system. And anyway, I would prefer I could do it all at once of course.

Does either TextPad, Notepad++, EditPad Pro, or RJ TextEd do that -- in one fell swoop, so to speak?

Reply   |   Comment by Tranmontane  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-2)

Tranmontane,
While I still use WordPerfect 5.1 for DOS for my word-processing (articles, books, booklets etc.), I have never gone as far back as Wordstar, which I believe uses the old byte=7bit ASCII, so I respect but cannot help directly. (In Windows I use ordinary Notepad for emails, and acrobat for pdf conversions from DOS.)
As you say, the present offer only gives you a choice of encoding of ANSI or UTF8, which is enough for me and for the person to whose comment I replied. However I took a look at wordpad which I never use and this will not suit you.
I also took a look at notepad++ which I also never use, and it has a large choice of encodings. Even more so it has a choice of how to save the file in `save as' which is equivalent to encodings (not exactly the same) with about a hundred possibilities, and I suggest it is worth a try for you. (You can get it free.) I did not find Wordstar, but you might find out the names of any others that use the 7-bit byte and you may find it there. It also has some sort of conversion for encodings which I do not understand but may help.

I am not an expert like Mike and TK, I have not been very helpful, but have done my best for a suggestion which may and I hope will help.

Tranmontane,
An alternative possibility is to set up DOS within Windows, it can be done even in 64-bit win10 but I do not know how, I have seen instructions for it but do not need it. You might then be able to read your WS files there in WS itself and perhaps convert or save them elsewhere to be able to read them more easily in the future. Just a suggestion, it may not work, but might.

GOTD give us EditPad Pro. That is the real text editor thing.
(other than Notepad++ which is free and portable).

What is the use of importing a graphic as text? Where and how do you convert it back elsewhere?
Otherwise, I like it.

Reply   |   Comment by Zen  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+2)

Zen , the only reason that comes to mind is steganography (placing "hidden" messages in headers of image files). People do that for copyright protection and sometimes it gets used for covert communication.

Noah Body,
In other words it cannot be converted back and in practice is useless for sending images.

taylor,
I do not argue that notepad ++ is more powerful but also more complicated to use.
This one is simpler and more intuitive, going straight to the point.

For the average user, this is better or less complicated.

This is just a notepad replacement. You are comparing apples and oranges. Though "Notepad++" is child's play compared to "RJ TextEd"

Hi,

I think this text editor is one of the best I've tried to work with txt data.

Straight to the point and 10 times better than notepad.

Everyone should give it a try.

I do Recomend it.

Thanks GAOTD and Vovsoft. :)

Hello. Thanks for Text Edit Plus 5.7. It's very cool text editor.
Is it possible to make it as UTF8 default? How we could make it to open and save always as UTF8 encoding? Any ideas?

Reply   |   Comment by Administrator  –  4 years ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+3)

Administrator,
Yes.
1. In the top menu go to options.
2. Click on encoding.
3. Click on UTF8.
4. Just underneath that click on `set as default coding'.
5. Return
6. close the programme.
7. Re-start, and you will see UTF8 in the bottom right corner.
NOTE: It will not work until you restart (no. 7 above).

Zen , Thanks for useful information. I hadn't notice it till I downloaded it. Very cool.
However it still cannot make any word-list if the text isn't in English. Could it be solved in the next version of Vovsoft Text Editor Plus? Thank you very much.
