StarBurn is a powerful tool for grabbing, burning and mastering CD, DVD, Blu-Ray and HD-DVD media. StarBurn supports all types of optical storage media (including CD-R/RW, DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/RW, Dual layer DVD-R & DVD+R, BD-R/RE, HD-DVD-R/RW and DVD-RAM) as well as a wide variety of burning hardware.

StarBurn is easy to learn and to use. In addition to advanced DVD authoring and mastering features StarBurn offers a number of step-by-step wizards for novice users.

New features of StarBurn v.10

  • Fully skin-able and theme-able wizards (not only main form as it was in V9);
  • Vista-signed executables (StarBurn is "blessed" for Vista/Longhorn now);
  • Blu-Ray decrypter wizard (V9 had only DVD decrypter);

I installed the program - TWICE. Both times it puts up the first screen - title screen, and then it dropps into a Postmortum program Debugger. Sigh. Well, I haven't the time to read all the comments to see if anyone else could not run it at all.

Off to uninstall it again. That was a wasted 3 hours of download time.

Installed fine, then I realized I left out one of the checkboxes I wanted (to add it to the Start Menu during install), so I went to Add/Remove Programs on XP SP2, ramoved it, ran setup again, and the only option is to install StarWindLite. If I run "StarBurn (Total)" it gives me a splash screen for StarBurn, indicates it is registered to a GAOTD user, then dings (like an error tone) and then nothing happens.

Anyone have an idea why it got fubar'd by uninstalling then installing again (with plenty of time left on the promotion today)?

Hi, I'm having trouble activating ANY software from GOTD ever since I changed firewalls from Zone Alarm to Comodo. When I try to activate the software it says it cannot connect and to check my firewall settings. Well, even DISABLING the firewall entirely changes nothing. No Comodo, no windows firewall, and it still says that it cannot connect. Any ideas???

well it is idiot proof. LOL!
I burned my very first dvd.
now my problem is that it will play on my computer but not on a dvd player.
it is a dvd+r disk
do this mean I have to convert the movie format to something else?
all my computer movies are avi files.
I clicked on burn video went on clicking in the wizard then it said it was not the right format, so I tried the burn data and it worked.
also all i got on my desktop was starburn total only, one double click and it opened completely. no crash, no hang up, no nothing just came open and ran.
probley beginners luck..crossing fingers and toes for luck..

I had the previous GOTD version 9.5 of this but installed this version. Upon setup I received a framedyn.dll error message and re-installed twice. The program did finish installing after the error message but said that I should re-install software and also re-boot my system. Has anyone else had this problem?

I've always been a leach on this site and never felt the need to comment. Until now. I have been using Nero and AVS for years. This program really gives them a run for their money. I dont think that i would pay $450 bucks for it, but its a great program! Thank GAOTD!

I just downloaded and installed this. I am using Vista Ultimate. THe program works just fine. I think the problem people are having where it is hanging up is because of the antivirus software. during installation it says minimum requirements for optimal use is Windows XP with SP2(Vista Recommended). So to the user that said Vista users are getting shorted or something like that, that is not the case. Vista is recommended for this software but xp SP2 is minimum requirement. I disabled my a-squared anti malware and my Threatfire and left my paid antivirus(WebRoot) running while I installed this and it installed just fine. I would suggest this to anyone installing this, because programs that add a virtual drive may register as malware to some programs. Even Windows User Account Control and Windows Defender said it looked suspicious. I know it is not so I allowed the installation and everything is fine. Thank You GOATD team and StarBurn for this wonderful program. It can create a virtual rom on your computer, it can decrypt and rip DVD's and burn pretty much any thing you put in front of it. If you disable your antivirus just for a few minutes while this installs it will install just fine. If you are that paranoid about it, just scan the downloaded file before installing it.

OK, I installed this on the day of the giveaway. There was no key to enter. The instructions for installing this application were to just run the setup file. I did that. In order to get this version, I had uninstalled the prior StarBurn giveaway (which was working). Now, I open this application up to burn a DVD and I get a friendly message stating that "The trial period has expired!" and asking me to order or enter a key!

I think I may have learned a lesson. If the application you have is working, don't try to install the newer version unless you are prepared to move forward without it. In other words, if it ain't broke...

I tried to read as much as i can, but considering the really long thread here, im not sure whether this has been asked or not - the program is supposed to be able to write on DVD/RW. im having a problem with the program adding files to a previously written DVD/RW. whats the use of using a RW disc if i can only burn on it once? (i make sure to check the "Create Multi-session disc" option)

I get an error saying "*Error* : Cannot create CD/DVD/Blu-Ray/HD-DVD Burner object! Possibly device can be busy."

I'd appreciate any feedback...

AND BTW, GAOTD, there should be a "subscribe" function to the discussion here so we can get comment updates in our inbox...

Out of all the software that has been offered here, StarBurn is the one that I have been chasing. I have downloaded the previous versions including this one and the free version from thier site and the results have been the same each time.

The installs are smooth as well as the registration but, when I open the program to use it....I get....

An error occured
Sorry Internet Explorer needs to close

And... that's it.
I run on Windows XP Pro SP2.

Here's what "I Think" is the problem. I use the AMD64 Athlon dual processor.

If that be the case...I would like to see StarBurn execute an update that would accommindate the AMD64 Athlon.

Just my 2 cent request.

it´s me #116 --- does anyone know where to find and what to write into the registry a key, that changes from trialversion to fullversion? --- (copy from #116:) running Win2k SP4. the installation process hangs at the end. After waiting for more than 5 minutes I closed the setup programm by taskmanager. afterwards a window appeared giving information that activision was done. but when starting StarBurn it is an evaluation period of 30 days trail left.

Success at last! I tried making an ISO from my region-protected DVD with StarBurn again (after trying DVD Shrink, which asked me to change the region code on my DVD drive - no thanks) and this time I used the DVD Decrypt wizard instead of the Image Grab wizard. The entire grab took 55 minutes and it then took me another 10 seconds to mount the ISO file as a virtual DVD drive, which StarBurn calls a StarPort drive. And now I'm happily watching my movie. Woo hoo! :-)

to Tattooed Dude #118 --- #40 had written 1.250 TB (1 point 250) not 1,250 TB. Not too difficult to achieve; I have two 500GB drives and one 200 GB drive internal, and one 120 GB and one 160 GB external. Minus the "not usable" space, I have a total of 1,380.6 GB (that is a comma, but note that it is in GB, not TB). Not too expensive to get these days with large drives getting cheaper and cheaper.

I have Starburn 9.5 from the last fixed one GAOTD offered, so won't be getting 10 this time around. Don't have time to deal with the possibly recommended uninstallation and then possible reg screw ups. Couldn't get a reply at their forum, too late for them I guess. Anyway, Starburn 9.5 runs fine for now so I will wait until the next possible offering. Thanks GAOTD!

TY GOTD & Rocket Division! I'm not going to install this 1, but it is a VERY NICE offer!
Only reason I'm not is that I like the other version, & I know I sure don't want to lose it, just cause I got confused reading the "HOW TO" to install this version, if already installed the 1st one. I also didn't understand that about dismounting a virtual something above. If it takes more than 2 or 3 steps & involves something I know nothing about, I'd best leave it for those who do. lol

FOR THOSE WHO DIDN'T GET IT TO REGISTER- As always here at GOTD, you must read the "READ ME" that comes with it in download. If you follow that instruction, it will always register, & it is free to use as long as you have that pc & don't reformat.

Everyone who installs this should download and install the latest version of Duplex Secure SPTD (and check for updates monthly, along with your other drivers and the DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer). This is a critical file which can cause you endless grief (once installed). The last time I addressed this issue, GOTD deleted my comment.

Just installed on Vista x64 Home Prem, works well so far from what I can tell. I won't really test burning, I'll assume it burns alright as testing burning can take a while, and requires to burn multiple discs to get reliable results. My initially impressions from just the installation itself weren't that positive. I didn't like the fact they had an option to change your search service, which seems to be a trend now. As for user interface, in my opinion, I believe this is geared to users who want more advance control over their projects; there is no startup asking you what you want to do, it just throws you straight into the program, which I can say is comparable to launching Nero Burning ROM, not their startup thing. Burnaware Home Edition was just given away a couple days ago, can't remember exact date, but that is more user friendly for consumer users, as it asks if you would like to burn a DVD, Data, etc etc, where this just shows all the options right away, which could make an light computer user pretty lost at first. Overall, I believe that this is a good quality piece of software, definitely a keeper for myself. I'm not sure if it will replace Burnaware for me right now, I am not looking for advance controls, and other extras that this program has (this program has many more extras than the simpler Burnaware), however, I beleive if I were looking for a Nero alternative or Roxio alternative, this would be the best bet to replace it with. It's $495 price tag does not seem to suit this, at best I think perhaps maybe $80, somewhere around there from what I've toyed with so far, I could be wrong, but that's just my opinion on the price.

Hi. What makes this better than Plato DVD Copy, please? That worked pretty quickly for me and with no quality loss whatever.

Also, is there any software that I can use to download the films that news channels put online (you know, the newsclips -- they take them offline when new news comes, and then anyone clicking on a link from my blog gets "file not found").

Thanks!

games are weekends. I can't imagine needing ATA over Ethernet, but if I need it....

for commercial licensing 5 bills isn't bad- but for free we don't get to make money off it but have the features to play with, eh?

I never expected a broadband lan, but here it is....

Burnaware appears to think it's good enough. this is the engine but not the greatest gui- but has tricks most never need. If the wife burned dvd's... I'd need it.

Lately, I had to copy an original-DVD of my own I created some years ago. I tried a couple different DVD burning/ISO creating programs, incl Nero, but they all found the original-DVD corrupted and impossible to create a copy. After that, I tried the older version of Starburn, given away earlier. It was a success - Starburn managed to create an ISO file from the same corrupted DVD! It saved me days of work to edit the same old video stuff again. Thanks and thumbs up!

See note 36 - I guess I and many others will not ba able to download this as we have no idea whether the new version will screw the old version and there is a suggestion or two that it has already done so to some others on here.

Perhaps GAOTD will be able to re-offer this 2morrow with assurances/instructions from the makers??

After reading the comments, I was leary about installing this program as I have (had) Starburn v9.5 and it was working well. I used the uninstaller in the Starburn folder - uninstall went fine. I installed V10.0 -- seemed to take a little longer, a bit confusing, but when all was said and done, it installed. On closing and reopening the program, it says "Registered to GAOTD" on the opening screen, so I know it registered on my WinXP SP2. (This was without shutting down and restarting the computer.) I changed the skin/theme, no problem, skimmed thru the options. Look forward to trying some of the new features.
