I know it may be late for some but might probably help others to fix the crashing issue, rename the PhotoEditor.exe.manifest in the installation folder to something different, as it triggers the crash and is thus invalid!

It's worth noting that Adobe CS2 can be had for free:
http://adobe-creative-suite-2-cs2.en.softonic.com/

The only downside is that it's about a decade old and may not have all the features of other programs. The current package only sells by subscription.

@GOTD team:
I compared (binary comparison) the file downloaded this morning before I went to work (like 6:30AM)to the "new" build just downloaded and they compare the same. Is this really the updated zip file?

I reported to avast it (my previous post) was a false positive as a search proved so. Should've searched first. LOL

Also, tried installing the trial from the author's page over top of the GOTD installation (the replacement build GOTD posted) and it still crashed as many others have already posted:

After reading the comments I'm wondering if I want to embark on this journey to what looks like a nice program, but has issues. An old xp user like me can't afford to take chances. Guess i'm gettin' old and cranky.
GAOTD is still in my will come what may. Uninstall this comment after reboot.

WinXP SP3 - fails to run as reported by others - Unable to execute file C Program Files ....\PhotoEditor.exe. Create Process failed code 14001. “This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect"

Tried with GOTD download at 18:30 (theoretically a repaired build) - no go same issue.
Tried with direct download of exe from their homepage - same problem

Tosh laptop (XP SP3) running a billion other programs perfectly.

Reg code requested twice. Still no email.
Sadly a waste of time - sounded good.
I'll have to continue with the GOTD INPAINT which has been useful

Regards all.

Thanks GOTD Team and SoftOrbits. Installed, registered and activated with no problems. Program did not crash once for me.
Remove and Image Correction functions were very slow for images 5000px and up. However, since this is only version 1.0, perhaps some time is needed for it to mature. Unfortunately today's SoftOrbits Photo Editor is not for me.

On a side note, I am not sure why the "Windows 2000" theme, and no Mac theme. Other changeable themes are Photoshop, MS Office 2010 Blue/Silver/Obsidian and Native Windows.

Just my 2 cents

I had no problem with installation or crashes on my Windows 64-bit machine.

I love Softorbits software and even purchashed their Digital Collection at 70% off. A great thank you goes out to Softorbits. According to The Wayback Machine, their first web page was uploaaded on June 19th, 2006. They only had one program called Pictor Doctor. Photo Editor still needs some work as it's onlt a new program at version 1.0. They update their software frequently and expect a much better product in version 2.0 or 3.0. It's similar to some of their other program that erase information from graphic files.

The country of India had the most frequent vists, followed by the USA, then Iran.

Where did people come from before visiting their site:
google.com

Hopeful this information is helpful to some.

I am running Windows 10 Technical Preview 64bit and had no trouble installing or activating. The program worked as listed and I had no trouble with the layout either. It does seem to be a simple straight forward program with no "learning curve" needed to make it work. Sometimes simple is all you need.

Thank you GOTD!!

Can those who have issues please also check if the software had corrupted the Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 in their PC?

When Visual C++ 2005 is corrupted (damaged by another software) you would only know if some other software suddenly cannot run with a pop up error message.
[The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0150004). Click on OK to terminate the application.]

In such a case, doing a system restore will not help.
You have to uninstall the corrupted Visual C++ 2005
Install a clean copy of Visual C++ 2005.

I'm wondering if anyone is having the same problem that I'm having? Actually there are 5
problems (so far).

(1)I selected an image, resized it to work with it. Removed items I didn't want in the photograph. It did a so-so job. I had to keep removing the errors the editor made the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th time I tried to fix the problems.

(2) I could have lived with that because eventually I got something close to what I wanted but when I tried to use the "Clone Stamp" (by the way softorbit people - the symbol is universally used for a clone stamp - the magic wand looks different, it looks like a wand) it just colored the target area PINK.

(3) When I used the "reverse the mistake you've made" button it brought up one of the removed items I had removed before and cancelled that removal - the pink was still there and now what I had removed before was back. At this point I was getting tired of playing with this thing.

(4) This brings us to problem number 4. When I tried to return the photo to it's original size - No go. It just wouldn't work. Nothing I did would work. I gave up and decided to exit the program.

OK folks were almost at the end. We're finally at the last problem - so far. Problem number:

(5) I didn't want to save what I had done so I clicked all the correct buttons to make sure the work wasn't saved. After we were all told that version 1 was out and that everything was hunky-dory I downloaded version 1, installed it, and registered it (no problems doing that with either version). OK, SoftOrbits had corrected the problems of the previous version so I decided to give it another try. I wanted to use the same photo as before to see if it would make the same mistakes. This is when I discovered problem 5. THE PHOTO IS MISSING. It's no where to be found. I've checked the recycle bin (by the way Domi, I'm probably as knowledgeable as you are so please don't you try to give me any advise. OK?) it wasn't there either. I checked everywhere. It's gone.

OK there is one more mistake. I guess this is Mistake number 6 but it's my mistake. I take full responsibility for this one. I used an original photo. Now Domi I know that was stupid - 99% of the time I use a copy - not this time. I'll try using one of the photo recovery programs that GOTD has given us in the past. It's gone and that's all there is to that.

Anyway that's my comment for today. If any of you are experiencing the same kind of stuff please let me know. I hate to feel that I'm alone. Misery loves company. I hope the rest of my day is better and I hope all of you (even Domi) have a great day.

Hi, I would go ballistic Madmaler if I discovered my picture GOT MISSING!! I usually suggest to Folks to work with COPIES rather than ORIGINALS in case the pics become marred by 'sample' stamp across it, or any such thing ruining it - but MISSING?? Why, that's criminal to say the least! Ask the Vendor how to get it back, I would. Doesn't matter if it's something You won't miss much, it could had been one and only precious picture (old family snap), so NO, that's NOT OK! Thanks for sharing Your testing results with us. Althou I'm on Win 7 x64, so this version could install and work - Your experience is a most valuable point! People DO make mistakes when SAVING, at worst one cannot reverse changes made to original photo, that's all. To 'delete' image still remaining in any console of any reputable Photo Program, you would have to do 'select all' and 'cut', but even then I cannot imagine that photo going missing without any trace.

Good Morning everyone.
I installed (without incident) on a physical dual-boot system (Win 8.1 & Win 10 TP) and for the most part I am very happy with the program (my wife says I have an eye like a tin can, when it comes to pictures - but I try lol). I want to applaud SoftOrbits for maintaining the pull-down word menus & I only have a couple of small suggestions for the GUI. The colors seem very drab & not too neutral - They sort of wash the icons into the background. I know the purpose is to make the photo front & center, but a flip-flop of your color design might work - make the area around the work area lighter & the icons darker and they may stand out like the words. (IMHO) I believe I have a keeper here - thks for trying the software twice today Karl. By the way Karl, I am trying something knew with the installations from now on - I am going to install from each of the partitions as always - but install BOTH into the same subdirectory on a 3rd partition - it has been working well so far & both programs behave & both find their work material in directories I setup for both to read & the work done by one (on the pics I just did) was finished by the other - no residual memory & I save disk space (Yea) just a little shop talk, hope you don't mind. HAGD.

For the benefit of those complaining the program didn't work, I give the following relevant definition:

Debugging: The process of uncovering flaws by packaging prerelease software as finished product, then waiting for irate customers to report problems.

And for those who also couldn't get the revised version to work, I cite my own supplementary definition:

Debugging is the replacement of old bugs by new ones. (tomcat)

The second version still fails in XP SP3.

A pop up message reads:

This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.

If you go into the Program Files folder and click on PhotoEditor.exe
a pop up message will read:

Access denied!

This is the umpteenth time I have stated that we users in GOTD are in fact the Quality Control Department of many software developers. It is cheaper this way, than to set up their own QC department and pay the full time staff. One day we will win the Deming Prize.

Downloaded the "revised" program to see if it would start correctly now that it has been updated.

Same error code #14001 and message: Fail process #14001. “This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem.”

Since this is Version 1.0, I'm guessing that we, the Giveawayoftheday fans, are the quality control test dummies to iron out all the bugs in the real world.

Maybe someday Version 2.0 will be more successful.

The title of this is deceiving: "Turn your digital snapshot into a perfect postcard!" This gives the impression I can literally print out postcards with my photo on front and your address lines and place for a postage stamp on the back, and have it done easy for me.

What this software is truly about, is editing out unwanted objects, which that should clearly be stated in the title, such as: "Remove unwanted objects in your photos." That's clear and not deceiving now as to what this software truly is.

Don't know if I installed the "first" or "second" release on Windows 7x64. Registered OK. Tried some things on a test image but nothing seemed to happen.
Nothing I tried worked as expected.
Uninstalling it was a bit of a pain, too (using Revo). The program's uninstaller wanted access to MS Outlook (which I don't and never use).
Thanks, but no thanks for this one.

The second release of the installer worked. It installed and started correctly.

A greyish interface opens, this is a combination of several tools, from red-eye removing over the remove of "unwanted" objects and a clone stamp, which I tested.

The clone stamp did not work as expected, the stamp color (see arrow) could not be changed, the size not selected and the release of the key gave unpredictable results. Maybe the developer looks again in the code, before giving this as a unfinished version 1.0.0.0

Uninstalled. Could become a nice little tool some versions later.

Registered without problems and everything working fine.

It reminds me a little of programs like Inpaint and Photupz, perhaps a tick faster removing stuff from a photo.

The interface is clean and dark consistent with the trend going dark-gray. Pretty much nothing great to learn about using SoftOrbits, because it's easy to use for everyone.

I now have InPaint, PhotoUpz and SoftOrbits to choose from with past Giveaways, but think they are all equally good.

cheers GOTD & SoftOrbits

To remove unwanted objects I generally like to use 'Inpaint' from TeoreX. But to make the output more perfect I also take the assistance of 'Clone Stamp' tool.

1) Remove objects from photo - Tutorial using clone stamp tool of RealWorld Designer.

2) Irfanview Clone Stamp Tutorial.

3) Also we can use the freeware GIMP . See How to Remove an object on a photo with GIMP

4) Another method using Paint.NET , just follow the instructions given in Paint.NET Clone Stamp Tutorial .

At the same time I would like to name some free and powerful image editing softwares -

*PhotoScape

*Hornil StylePix

*PhoXo

* Chasys Draw IES

*Image Composite Editor (ICE) by Microsoft Research

*PhotoDemon - A really cool editor.

*PhotoFiltre Studio

*XnView

*FastStone Image Viewer

and

ToolWiz Pretty Photo

Sometimes, we find a gem here, but they're getting fewer & farther in between. EaseUS Todo Workstation was a favorite, was able to get several versions here, with Full WinPE support.

Like Jahid stated, I too miss Giovanni & have wondered what happened to him, he was a regular here, day in & out, and always had a list of truly free alternatives.

Well, the Photo Editor program installs and registers fine. But after I installed it, three other SoftOrbits programs (Photo Retoucher, Photo Stamp Remover, and Photo to Sketch Converter) that I had previously obtained and registered via Giveawayoftheday have now stopped operating as licensed programs.

Apparently, this company does some kind of an online check of the registration codes upon starting any of its programs, and the other three programs all report that "the license key has already been activated." Not sure why it would say that, as all three Softorbits programs had registered cleanly and I have not tampered with them in any way.

I like the software that this company makes. But I don't like it that they have taken away three licensed programs from me. A licensed program should stay licensed and not phone home to negate the free license code. That is very disingenuous.

I had the same problem with Softorbis before, turning previously registered programs of the same name and other names (all by Softorbis though) into unregistered versions and was very annoyed as I know you must also be. How I found a way around this was by renaming every exe file of any Softorbis program I have in my PC, before I installed another one of their products and then renaming them back to their original names, after the new installation is complete. Just adding something like xxxxx_OFFFFF.exe to the name xxxxx.exe does the trick. Cumbersome but worth it, if you care to keep your registered programs. Any other suggestion welcome. Of course, the programmer could simply stop this practically illegal practice (as in a way, they are actually stealing your licences, irrespective if paid for or GOTD), but I am sure they wont, whatever little profit they are hoping to gain by it.

Well i see SoftOrbits still has the same problem when registering there software that i posted a few months ago, That if you have other Software installed by the same company (There own Software) when installing a newer program or just updating to a newer Version, all of a sudden any (or most) other software from SoftOrbits shows Unregistered Version!!! Licence key has already been activated.

Even when looking under Help then about it shows Unregistered Version. It's a pity they don't fix this problem, as if you got the Software from GOTD then basically you have lost a working version (or versions) of the software as you can't reinstall it.

They really need to FIX this Activation Problem when installing SoftOrbits Software, that it does not effect other SoftOrbits Software from working...

Installed but unable to run in XP, same as Susan #4, but successfully registered and opened in Win Seven.
A modern mud coloured interface but thankfully easily readable, similar to their retouch program with the addition of some simple editing functions, this includes an automatic correction function and the ability to sharpen the image.
A quick test on the removal aspect worked well in a simple situation; an easy-to-use limited functionality program, a handy little program to have around but most definitely will not replace my main editor.

Fail process #14001. "This application has failed to start because the application configuration is incorrect. Reinstalling the application may fix this problem."

Of course, reinstalling the application gives me the same result, program failure. Apparently, this program (Version 1.0 !!!) is obviously not ready for prime-time considering that the system requirements above list just about every operating system except Windows 95 & 98!

@Domi "Perhaps you need to learn how to use Windows, Karl, or scan your WIn 8.1.3 Pro 64 bit system for viruses" that is a comment from someone who knows little about windows, just because a program crashes doesn't mean there is a virus or someone does not know how to use windows. Please refrain from inputting useless Crap like this. I have a fresh install of Windows 10 TP 64 bit and it also crashed on my system. after uninstalling and reinstalling 4 times same issue. It didn't like my disposable email address but it did send me one through a pop3 email. Still unable to get it to work. Will continue this discussion on the Forum.

A "WIn 8.1.3 Pro 64 bit" is not existing.

The program installed without a problem on WinXP, but didn't start:

On Win7-64: all went fine.
Sometimes the colors of a picture were red. And zoom-in/out didn't work well

Program seems to be really unstable. Crashes, starts fine, crashes, starts fine, on the same system of course, nothing changed in between.

XP not working at all (like the only program out of 1000 others successfully installed and used on that machine)

If you are lucky, it might run, if not, then it won't. I might give this program another go at some point but this version 1.0 is mediocre at best.

Try right clicking and run as administrator. See if that works.
