nice clock.. thanks..
but honestly, not worth 20 bucks for this.. maybe 5 bucks for effort

The clock looks nice...and the sync works nice; but I ended up uninstalling it.
I was a little taken aback when I found the clock app takes 12 MB on my XP Pro box. To me, it takes too much in system resources for what it does. I'll stick with the standard taskbar clock and have "Scheduled Tasks" run Dimension 4 once a day to sync the clock.

The clock would shift position at windows restart... it was nice to have a built in alarm, but there really was little to like about this... and not being able to read the time at restart kinda ruined it for me.

Another example of a product which solves a non-existent need. There is nothing wrong with Microsoft’s built in clock.
Except that it doesn't include the option to display date too along with the time.

Vista users!
I'm posting this again since we seem to have people who don't understand Vista.
This application works on Vista just as every other application I’ve downloaded from GAOTD. The trick is with Vista is that you often have to run each installation element as Administrator.
When I installed SkinClock I ran the activate.exe as administrator by right clicking on the file and choose “Run as Administrator”. Then when I ran the install, I also used the “Run as Administrator”.
If you have activated and installed as administrator and you're still getting errors, go to the Compatibility tab and under Privilege Level put a check mark in the box for “Run this program as an administrator”. Click OK and it should work. I did NOT have to do this step for SkinClock but have had to use it for other GAOTD apps.
Just remember on Vista that many times you’ll have to use the “Run as Administrator” to get applications to work due to the UAC. That’s a much better way to do it than turning off the UAC altogether. If these terms are unfamiliar to you, please do yourself a favor and get a book about Vista and learn about it.
Take a little personal responsibility and learn how to use the new operating system rather than just blaming everyone else for the problems that you’re having running applications. You chose to install a new operating system that would take some learning to use. It’s getting tiresome to see all the posts about the free applications we’re receiving not working on Vista when the problem is really with the user and the way the application is being installed/used.

This is pretty slick and I have pleasently surprised. I like the looks so it in the sys tray. I will bel testing th alarm feature in the morning, but it has the potential for me to remind me when bills are due, etc. The main window is easy to navigate through, although I would prefer a different skin, so i will look at their website. I have tried numerous clocks and this is the first one that I will keep. Thanks GAOTD

Good News! I e-mailed Abyssmedia about Audio Converter Plus reverting back to trialware and received an e-mail back within hours
"Please don't worry - your registration not removed. This is a bug in activation module.
You can download update from http://www.abyssmedia.com/downloads/acp305.exe"
I downloaded and installed the update and it works perfectly!
Thank you Abyssmedia for clearing this up! Great Program!

Goodbye chronograph, hello SkinClock.
This is really nice, the skins look good compared to Chronograph (Soft2 goes well with my silver based XP theme).
I hope the timer or alarms work, when gaming as it is easy to lose track of time.

I like it very much.
But I wouldn't pay for it though.
Cheers

I don't know how to do the link thing so I can only tell you to type PTBSync in your search bar and take a look at what's at the other end. Small, uses very few resources, it's a skinnable tray clock, alarm, analog clock, calendar...and more, and it's totally and completely free. PTBSync is this clock....on steroids.

I downloaded it and it loaded fine, but when it syncs up the time...It doesn't have the adjustment for Daylight Savings time. Anyone know how to change that for this program??

your link provides the "AlfaClock Free Edition 1.99 build May 2, 2007 expires at May, 2008",
if you like you can find the 1.90 release without the "time" restriction at http://www.alfaclock.com/default.html
Btw in my previous #66 I forgot that AlfaClock also "say the time"
and my name Frankel

It doesn't say it works with Vista, plus Ultimate's built in clock and calendar is good enough, while you could always download free widgets if you want and dock 'em on the sidebar, or place 'em anywhere you want.

Yahoo widgets are free and offer more possibilities

Gotta vote against this one. Did not activate or even work on my Windows Vista PC. And, of course, no tech support for these freebies. Too bad; that does not make me likely to want to look at more of their products. Skin Clock looked good, but wasn't meant to be.

I did not try this software. Who needs to buy a clock software? I checked some of the free clocks suggested by other users. The one I thought was the best was Analog Clock submitted by Figboost. thanks a lot for this excellent utility.

PROS: the unique feature of changing the skin's hue, also incrementally
CONS: the space occupied in the tray bar by the 4 menu's commands (the shortest skin is "liveicon");
poor main menu's GUI;
no costumization of the clock's fonts;
no swatch time !!
I will continue with theese 3 freewares:
dsclock (topmost on the desktop) with the date + the swatch time
digital skinnable clock ( just as background of dsclock with a custom skin)
alpha clock (in the tray bar) with calendar and alarms

OK, so this giveaway is kind of lame, guys...but quit complaining. Remember that you've also gotten some decent software here too. Remember also, that the better programs will be given away during the week, and not on weekends...so lighten up and enjoy what's free when they offer it.
If you don't want a program, then fine - skip it and move on. :-)

I sometimes find that apps that are for XP are compatable with Vista, so I tried it anyway. I can say that this definitly is not Vista compatable. It installed o.k. but when I tried to run it, it crashed Windows Explorer. That said, I didn't vote on it, because the publisher never claimed it was for Vista. Pity.

HEY!!!
do people who complain actually tried it?
it is not that bad
pro
1. looks good
2. easy to use
3. alarm simple to set
4. a lot of skins to choose from
con
1.uses 1% of CPU, 15 mb of RAM
2. kind of takes up the taskbar space

I'm always a little skeptical of poorly worded descriptions at the homepage of the company producing the software:
"Having bored of ordinary desktop and standard Windows look?
"Want to add some uniqueness and glance to your computer?"
I ask myself why don't they care enough to proof read or translate to English, their copy and is this an indication poor coding?
Save | Cancel
Why in the hell does it eat almost 20MB of RAM?
Should have a decent minimalistic easy to read skin in the selection - not only all those super large flashy thingy-majics.
Not that bad but definitely not worth 19.99$.
Uninstalled.

I am not able to activate, looks like GAOTD controls number of users who can activate :-( I keep getting error message the activation module is not available try again later !!

Nice to have a countdown timer and a multiple-alarms alarm clock readily available. I would prefer the date to show up with a mouseover, like the Windows clock does, but I'll get used to clicking on the little button instead. This program takes about 2 secs to load on bootup -- worth it for me.

The only use I have for this is if it's Vista compatible, which it's not! So I'll stick to Analog Clock, which is free, and smaller. http://www.analogclock.info/

The good: This is a very pretty clock. It does what it says. No extras to get confused with and nothing to go wrong.
The Bad: No extras. And it's VERY hard to re-skin on your own. It's almost as if the developers have hidden away a few things here or there to make any custom skins not work correctly (think WinAmp 2.X)
The Ugly: It DOES NOT WORK ON XP-64, VISTA-32, AND VISTA-64. It also has problems on Linux x32 and x64 platforms running Wine and Vistin. I believe the Linux problems probably go to the skinning problems as well, this was programmed SO clean that some things are hard to find (from a programming view).
Other thoughts: Very clean program -- I can't crash it! As I (and others) noted it does what it is supposed to with no problems. I just wish it wasn't so hard to get to work under Linux vwm and in Vista. For XP users; this is probably a good choice. Especially when it's free! ^_^

Useless. I was so excited at first, but found you cannot customize much of anything! I had hoped it would let you add the date and truly customize what is shown in the bottom right corner of the screen. Without the ability to customize, this is worthless.
Do yourself a favor and download AlfaClock instead. It's free and you can do a LOT more with it.

Check out the free version of Alfaclock:

(No, I don't work for or have an interest in the company)

Standard windows clock also shows date, with one mouseclick... or even if you just hover the mousepointer over it.
(clicking will give a calendar.)
And using a simple synchronizer for the windows clock is better than this bloated piece of air.
Skinning.... meh, I've got different themes which also include the plain clock in the taskbar, so it integrates nicely with the rest of my desktop.

Anyone considering this should at least look at AlfaClock2. I just went there for the url and found that I don't have the newest ver., but I'm very satisfied w/ the way mine works now. I'd never be satisfied w/ windows clock again.

Almost as good as my Casio digital watch and that's saying something.
Thanks GOTD!

For the clock replacement it's quite fun and useful. I don't have a need for it, but I like the concept and know many people who use laptops for whom the alarm clock function would be very valuable... Especially, if you're an employee somewhere (such as sales) and needed an alarm to remember a conference call or something... Thanks GOATD for the great software please keep it up. :)

Can you tomorrow give Images Finder?
Sounds cooler than this weirdo clock.

I wouldn't pay $19.95 for it, but it's a good little app. A wide variety of skins to choose from should mean that you can find one to suit your eyesight and taste. The alarm centre and timer are very useful.

I love clocks. Don't know why, but I do! This one has a skin that I liked, but it didn't show the date all the time. I prefer TClockEx. http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,6122-order,1-page,1-c,alldownloads/description.html (thanks to http://jonathanstoolbar.blogspot.com/ ) It's free and has LOTS of neat features. Including changing the font style and size. Lots of different colors, too.
So, IMO skin clock needs more tweaks and features to warrant having to pay for it.

Unlike a conventional clock, the alarm sound is way too short and pretty much useless unless one is at the pc when it goes off. Also, not near long enough to wake me. Wonder if there is a longer alarm sound file available?
Aside from that, I like it, then again, the alarm is the only reason I'd use it, so maybe not.

Nice little clock/alarm clock with lots of options.
Thanks once again GOTD!

I think it is neat. It is simple, but has features that I can use and the different skins look nice. I also think the alarm could come in handy...

Well, finally a program I would maybe have used (for the alarm function), except it doesn't open on my XP Pro machine for some reason. When I try to open it I get an hourglass for a second, then nothing.
Uninstalled. Glad I didin't pay for it.

Skin Clock is a replacement clock for the one in Windows Task Tray. The best feature is that one can set alarms.
All of the above commenters have valid points. One feature is that it comes with a very nice list of Atomic Clock servers, and it syncs the clock once an hour.
It is clean from viruses and Adware.
My personal main concern is the huge RAM footprint of about 20 MB. You can chcek RAM usage by starting the Task Manager (CTRL-ALT-DEL) then switch to the Performance Tab. Note the PF, Commit Charge and Physical Memory usage and start the program in questions (in this case SkinClock). Note the increase in those. Now quit the program and watch to see if all the memory used is returned.
It appears to be a bit of a memory leak as well. Every time I started and stopped it, I lost a MB of RAM.
My conclusion is that if you want a neat looking replacement clock that has a built in alarm, and either do not mind the memory drain or do not intend to start and stop the program, this is OK.

It's unable to synchronize with any of the time servers, even with my firewall turned off :(
Pretty cool, but certainly not worth the $20 asking price. 5/10

It did innstall on Vista Home Premium and seems to be working. I like the seconds display. Wouldn't pay $20 for it but it is extremely nice for free!! Thanks.
