Installed fine, activated fine, opened fine. Then I opened a file...! Makes initial "sketch", but after attempting to change from default settings the app CRASHED... 3X. I have other programs running, they are good, didn't even "hiccup" when this app crashed. I'm uninstalling, Photoshop Elements can do this anyway.

Downloaded, installed and registered without a problem.
I tried it to produce a simple pencil sketch from a photograph which I could then use as a guide for my own pencil sketch for a watercolour painting. It worked very well. Plenty of choices to "tweak" the result to what I wanted.
In this example, it compared very favourably with Photoshop. It is easy to use and good fun. Loads of functions in the toolbox for experimentation.

olrowdy01, have you ever thought that not all of these results are unique? and that they are not all programs? very wise. Also the speculations and assuming on your part makes your contribution of a comment worthless.
Even alternativeto.net provides a lot of programs that aren't related to this in any way.

The registration process is even worse.
you have to provide and Email to get the product, then provide it a second time to get the activation link, then open Email again to confirm Email and click link then it asks you to register your name, gender and other bio-data after which it send the link to your Email again and you have to open Email to click that link and it goes on forever!

For stuff like this, it's a good idea to have a 'junk' email provider. I use ProtonMail (free) for things like this.
And, needless to say, make up a name, date of birth, number of pets, etc.

I have sketch Drawer 4.2 installed. Is it necessary to uninstall it before installing this version?

Provided without the GAOTD wrapper, so installed without needing to disable A/V software, and/or boot into safe mode - relief!
Sketch Drawer is a perennial GAOTD package, and quite useful as a standalone product for those who don't have the like of Photoshop and a myriad of filter plugins. It is small, only 20mb or so, lighweight, and does exactly what it says; converts pictures to sketch drawings.
The interface is clean, simple, and uncluttered. Images can be added via a basic selector or drag-and-drop. There is also a useful "previous" and "next" image buttons to 'scroll' through the images in a given folder.
As far as I can tell, it is limited to importing standard image formats (jpg, bmp, gif png ico tif pga psd pcs wnf), although there is a "all files" option. I was unable to open a .psd file however.
It comes with over a dozen pre-sets filters such as line-drawing, pastel, plastic, felt-tip, and each has numerous controls over stroke thickness, length, edge strength, intensity, and smudging, hatch edge strength, intensity, curvature and dispersion, stroke direction, type (curved or linear), and intensity, and 'colorize' histogram and colour shift.
Once tweaked, an image can be saved in numerous formats; the usual jpg, bmp, png, gif, tif, but also many others such as pcx, ska, pcm, ico (nice for creating icons!), and many I've never heard of such as cr2, 3fr. Even .raw format is supported. All-in-all, I estimated around 15 file export formats. Unlike another comment, I found that images saved opened up as the saved image, not the original. Perhaps a little user error and opened the original image by mistake?
It does one job, and does it well.
All in all, a great giveaway.

An important question here. I just found on my pc Sketch Drawer Pro 5.1 which was available on November 29th last year. So, today it says also 5.1 but without the name Pro (for Professional). The giveaway today is the same version? I don´t want do downgrade the Pro version I already have installed. Hope sombebody can answer. Johann Anton Oellers, I haven't installed today's giveaway as I too have the previous one, but it is my understanding that there is only one version.
Indeed, if you compare to day's and November page:
1/ the regular price is the same ($49.99) and the file size nearly equivalent (23.1MB vs 22.9 MB);
2/ on the photo of the box, in both cases it says Sketch Drawer.
And if you open the version you already have, you will see that on top right it says Sketch Drawer Pro but if you look in "about" it says Sketch Drawer.
They probably don't know themselves wether it is Pro or not. SoftOrbits have always been erratic anyhow...
Incidentally, for those who are wondering: there is no more spontaneous deregistration issue with their products.

Hi, Me too!:) - ALL my existing copies of Sketch Drawer and other SO Software on my PC show: 'Unregistered version' and a Special Offer box promptly appears with Message: 'Only for Giveaway of the Day users - 70% OFF for any Softorbits software (here Coupon bla bla)' Looks familiar to anyone??.. They had to be uninstalled (..upon which SO Site opens asking for Feedback : 'Please, tell us why are you uninstalling our program. Your opinion is very important to us. We will do our best to implement all suggestions and advice in the future versions of the program'.. Joke, right?:)
Perhaps this Developer changed this sorry practice of turning 'for life' GOTD versions of their Softwares to try-outs already. Or simply pretends for a bit longer these days.. This Giveaway of SO Sketch Drawer will be their last chance to expect any future recommendations! Buying Software from Developer one cannot trust is pointless, sooner or later when something goes belly-up one will regret parting with cash, simple.
And lastly - comments about Software only are so much more useful here than.. hassle with Developers and registration problems, but I guess all these matters are important, if less joy..
Now I have one registered copy of SO Sketch Drawer 5.1, installing it went smooth enough, fingers crossed! Thanks.

When trying to re-register it: 'Thank you for testing SoftOrbits Photo Editor' box appears.
Pasting from clipboard key that WORKED just last month, on May 10 of this year (2018) and is STILL there(!) - at first, message in green tells me:
'The entered key is valid and can be activated now'.., pressing 'Register', shows: 'Activation error. The license key has been already activated (YES, by me!), Would you like to purchase more copies with a 20% discount?'.. - No.
So next message reads as follows: 'This license key can be used during giveaway period only. Would you like to purchase an Unlimited license bla bla at 70% discount?'... No, this supposed to be 'life-long' GOTD version!!?
How utterly disheartening is this on the day we tried to give this Developer kind word and better credit!!??
BTW, that saved Key is: EDT4-PRO-GVRTM-VHMBL-AGNRY Any ideas what to do with it??..
