Their support is lousy. I mailed them on 17-4 and got an automated answer on za 17 apr. 13:39 (3 days ago):
"We reply to all tickets as soon as possible, within 24 to 48 hours. If we expect your ticket will take additional time, we will update you by sending you an email."

It is now April 20. Three days later. More than 48 hours have passed. Have not heard anything.

krypteller, I got their reply this morning. They advised me to open the folder %LocalAppData%\Seed4Me and erase its contents.

That did the trick. It works now.

Dear Krypteller,
Sorry for the delay in replying.

A large number of requests due to the giveaway caused a delay in responses.

Please, let us know the ticket # here, we will try to reply asap.

After installing, even when NOT connecting through the VPN, my usual 75MPS download speed dropped to 6.8. I tried everything I could think of, or find on the internet, but nothing would get my connection speed back up. It required totally uninstalling the program to get my 75M connection speed back.
I do not need a VPN badly enough to lose 90% of my connection speed even when not using it

Reply   |   Comment by Scott Branson  –  3 months ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

Dear Scott,
This is strange that your Internet connection speed slowed down even before you connected to the VPN.

Please, contact support@seed4.me for help.

Please, describe the situation in detail and attach the speedtest results to your message.

As a further test, I installed it in a virtual W7 Starter. If I ask an Austrian IP address for that virtual machine, it goes well: https://www.iplocation.net/ip-lookup shows that I am in Vienna.

But the desktop is still in the Netherlands according to the same site.

Reply   |   Comment by krypteller  –  3 months ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (-1)

Dear Krypteller,

When you run a VPN on the virtual server, it doesn't affect the host's network.

Is this your question? Please, correct us if we got you wrong.

If your IP didn't change after connection to the VPN, please let us know:
- What browser do you use?
- What OS do you use?

Reply   |   Comment by SeedMeVPN  –  3 months ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

SeedMeVPN, I did not have a question. I just stated the result of an experiment. The outcome was indeed what I expected. I certainly did not expect the opposite.

I already mentioned the OS: W7 Starter.. That is a stripped version of Windows 7 32, that was put on small machines, not capable of running the standard Windows 7. I used Firefox on the virtual machine. The portable edition, as supplied by PortableApps. Version 86.0.

After installing and running, it showed it was connected - did a test on ipleak.net and found it was leaking my IP and location.

Kev,

- What browser do you use?

If it's Windows, try disabling IPv6:

1. Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center > Change Adapter Settings

2. Go through ALL items there (Ethernet, Ethernet 2, Wi-Fi, etc.) and Disable IPv6 for all:
Right-click on item > Properties > Remove tick next to "Internet Protocol Version 6 (TCP/IPv6)"

Reply   |   Comment by SeedMeVPN  –  3 months ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+1)

SeedMeVPN, This was good advice. I've IPv6 dissabled as it is a direct connection to your device on the internet.

Reply   |   Comment by Nasuno  –  3 months ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (0)

SeedMeVPN, It's Brave browser on Windows 10... but why would I want to do that when I have working VPNs that don't result in a reported leak out of the box?

Kev, please send to alex.z@seed4.me names of the VPNs that do not require disabling IPv6. We will take a look into the problem with the developers.

Many thanks, Seed4.Me--I was able to register, as a new user, for the 1-year free subscription, and then to add the additional 6 mths. of service. I look forward to trying you out! Thanks, again, for your generous offer--

For those new users having an issue in getting the 6-month service extension: first, follow the instructions in the Giveawayoftheday/Seed4.Me download readme file, to sign up and register with Seed4.Me and get the 1-year free subscription; then, follow the readme instructions *again* but this time for *already-registered* users, using the readme file provided link to get a key/promo. code which will be emailed to you, which you then (as stated in the further readme file instructions) apply at the Seed4.Me website under your previously-established account, using the "Extend Access" and then "Voucher or Prepaid Card" options (the latter is where you apply the new promo. code that was emailed to you as a previously-registered user). (Do note that you'll also need to run the Setup.exe file that came as part of the original Giveawayoftheday/Seed4.Me download, to actually install the VPN service on your computer; if I recall correctly, I first registered with Seed4.Me, then installed the software, and then went thru the process to get the 6-mth. extension.) I hope that this helps some people.

Managed to finally get the full 18 months subscription. To my surprise, it's not bad at all. Download speed is very good. Upload speed not so good. Have only used 2 different locations at this stage. One server was Singapore, but what's my IP shows me in Saudi Arabia ! Other I tried was Australia and what's my IP got that right. At this stage, I will keep it for now.

Never heard of nor used Seed4.Me before but I wanted to try it. I followed the instructions and used the same browser, but I can't get the 6 month extension voucher code using the link. That link just pops me back to this giveaway page. Obviously something is missing and unclear in the instructions or it's not working.

Probably, you didn't log into your account in our app.

Windows/Mac:
Start the app > Open Options (☰) and log into your account.

Mobile:
Start the app > Swipe left until you see "Setup VPN on multiple devices" > tap Setup
and log into your account.

If the app asks - "Do you want to transfer existing VPN access period" -
answer "Yes".

Please let me know, did you manage to do it and whether it helped?

The speed is acceptable. When using it via a UK server, testing via https://www.speedtest.net/
gave a ping of 27 msec, 21 Mbps download and 12 Mbps upload.

When it was switched off, my Dutch provider gave a ping of 17 msec, 81 Mbps download (it is busy now, normally I get 100 Mbps), and 30 Mbps upload.

I had to kill seed4 via Pro Lasso before I could do the second test.

As third test, I let seed4me use a Dutch IP address. Now I got a ping of 21 msec, a download of 27 Mbps and an upload of 26.5 Mbps. That is suaficient to run a Jamulus server with a hidden IP address.

Downloaded, installed and activated 1 year license without a problem.

The VPN connects with no problems and my IP address was changed to a server in California. I am in Guatemala.

My connection became extremely crippled though. From 30 megs download it went down to 10 megs down and 8 meg upload speed went down to 0.8 megs. Tried different servers but the connection speed did not even come close to what it usually is.

Perhaps this is due to my geographical location.

My suggestion to the developers is to speed up their servers.

Uninstalled the app. It´s of no use to me.

After you download the app on your phone/PC, make sure you are logged into the app to see the actual access time of your account.

You can share the account with family too, but don't share it publicly, on forums, etc.

No no no no no:
From GOTD description:
"- Military grade encryption"
From site
"Encryption: Require MMPE Encryption
Encryption Level: Strong 128bit"

MMPE (Microsoft Point to Point Encryptio) is 128bit encryption at best, which is advertised as 'strong'. It is not considered to be "military grade" at all. Neither is it secure: it uses the RC4 cipher which has numerous vulnerabilities.

If you want "military" grade (aka Government grade) then choose a VPN provider that uses ECHDE ciphers, with a AES256bit key.

Reply   |   Comment by Alan  –  3 months ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+23)

Dear Alan,

128 bit encryption is used for manual VPN setup only.

Our apps use 2048 bit encryption.

chuffin, See my long post above--essentially, you first sign up/register as a new user as specified in the original readme file (that gets you the 1-year subscription), and then you follow the readme file instructions *again* but this time as a *previously-registered* user (and that gets you the 6-mth. extension--this is where you get emailed a new code to enter at the Seed4.Me website under your account).

It works pretty well from initial use.

But I have discovered a really annoying problem in Windows.

If I activate the kill switch function then after a reboot I am unable to connect to the internet at all.

I have to load up Seed4.Me and then untick the kill switch option.

It makes no sense to have to do this after a reboot when there is no setting enabled that has the VPN start up automatically.

Reply   |   Comment by Bill Freeman  –  3 months ago  –  Did you find this comment useful? yes | no (+28)

Bill Freeman, I don't understand the problem. It is doing exactly what it is supposed to do which is block access until either the VPN is active or the kill switch is turned off. SurfShark does the exact same thing as does CyberGhost.

If you want the kill switch off when you reboot, change the setting before rebooting.

Ladies and gentlemen, (my comment for your own tech. understanding)

I'd like to say that when I was a couple of years ago on the Russian-speaking side of giveawayoftheday, made a post, and I was giving 1 "like" (under VPN program) for myself under my own
comment (it was not approved by admin at that moment).
But the admin of the giveawayoftheday noticed that I was switching the special VPN-program, that they switched on their anti-VPN-utility which was blocking using by me a VPN -program on this website. I couldn't use any VPN, a long time. After I asked their forgiving, they unblock my possibility of using VPN and I do not it again, because I know they can punish for such doing. It became to me a good lesson for life.

So, I'd like only to say that the IT-technologies do not "stay at one place, but move forward very fast".
And also, as people say in my country" For every poison there is an antidote".
And I am a tech witness of it.
Good luck to everybody and my respect!

Terry,
Yes just like an other word processor does the same thing as others. Should GOTD only give away one of a kind software because then there would be nothing here.

Terry,

VPN services all claim to offer online privacy from tracking. However, like any one brand's product as compared with another brand's, there are implementation, performance and feature differences.

Check this table ("detailed" or "simple") and scroll down (and sideways) to see the Seed4.Me feature set as compared with others:

Richard Woodley, I think Terry is saying what is the USP for this VPN... e.g. I believe ExpressVPN instances a virtual machine instance with zero logging for each VPN session you create and when you close that the virtual machine is destroyed so there are no records that could be gleaned should the server farm be raided by any authorities and the servers taken and forensically examined.

https://www.expressvpn.com/features/trustedserver

Without a USP what is there to entice the OP away from their existing VPN provider they use and to some extent already trust.

Steven Nicholls, my guess would be click on Voucher or Pre-paid card and I'd expect an input box to apear where one can paste or input the code of the Voucher you have receved that you are calling a code.

TK, That's exactly what I did and the "First Users" code was for 6 months only. Can you give further instructions or is that what Alexa is stating at the top of the page?

Steven Nicholls,

Check your email again, even though I got the payment rejected, I received an email telling me

"Your payment (+$20.00 USD) received. Thank you!
You access was extended for 6 months
Thank you for using Seed4.Me!"

Steven Nicholls, Sorry, I cannot give further instructions as I was only guessing based on what your screenshot showed... I have no need for VPN's so will not be battling the licensing issues this giveaway is apparently providing. If I want a VPN to use to protect my mobile data I'll just host my own VPN on my router on my home broadband connetion. I don't need a VPN to sneak past geolocation restrictions or IP based voting controls so do not need multiple endpoint public IPs around the world.
Good luck with the giveaway!

Steven Nicholls, it worked for me (as a new user) to first sign up/register as a new user, as stated in the download readme file--that got me a 1-year free subscription; I then followed the readme file instructions again, this time for previously-registered users, and that got me the further 6-mth. extension. (See my more detailed post above for more detailed instructions.)
