Tor isn't complete system encryption it only changes the IP address, your provider can see what your downloading. Only good for surfing and is slow.

No one, not even the computers in the many TOR transfer points can see what you are doing when using it. It's all encrypted etc.

And you should be running https too. If you use Firefox then the add-on, "HTTPS Everywhere" does the job.

Slow?
It's free to try and find out how your system responds to it. It mostly depends upon what your normal Internet speed is. I used to run 0.76 Mbps and I could watch youtube videos with it. Now I'm running 45 Mbps and there is no trouble even with HD videos. The download speed is basically determined by how fast the site you are visiting can put it on the web.

Besides, if you want to be truly protected from spying eyes a little reduction in speed is the toll the electrons take to bounce all around the web to get to where you want to go.

Considering that the known event happened 3 or 4 years ago to a site that presented illegal videos it is very likely that the site had Java activated.

Using Java is a one of the no-no's when using TOR if you want to remain anonymous.

At the same time TOR has made changes as needed to the browser etc over the years. But people will still configure their browser in ways they shouldn't.

With all the tools the FBI has it took them 4 weeks to finally crack into the info they wanted on the site (from what I read).

Most users of the web have a dynamic address which makes them harder to track if they turn the modem off now and then (like when you aren't using the computer).

If you are really concerned that someone is out to get you only turn the system on long enough to send/receive the important stuff you are doing. Not too practical for a video site.

If you have enough time, money and computer power just about everything is hackable (even if it takes 100 years to do it).

About VPN speed:

VPN connection makes dual path:
1. from the site you visit to our VPN node
2. then VPN node encrypts traffic and sends it to your computer/iPhone/iPad, then traffics is decrypted on your device.

This is how you get your data protected from snooping & unblock sites.

Because of double path mentioned above the speed of your connection may drop down and so called ping time (time from page request to page response)
may be bigger then when you are connected directly to the website.

To improve the speed of connection, choose the nearest to you VPN location, also you may turn ON VPN protection only when you need it.

bcook01, You are correct, I used it before and got disconnected a lot.
Tried to watch HD movie, got disconnected after few minutes,
tried to do banking online, the bank started popping security issues warnings and at the end uninstalled it.

bcook01, i think it's vpn slower than your direct connection so the latency increased has nothing to do with ISP.

Let me clarify this. No registration needed to use the App, simply download and enjoy VPN :)

If you want to use VPN on another device, you can create an account to sync VPN access time. No invitation needed to do that if you do it from the App (Desktop or Mobile).

Invitation codes are mostly needed when someone wants to setup VPN manually.

Patrick Wallace, They keep 1 log only for 7 days, then scrub it..believe it or not, most VPN's keep some form of connection log to monitor server status, HOWEVER, with a good VPN, you are a randomized number on that log

Running of Win 10 64 and have tried using Chrome (with & without data saver), Edge, Firefox and even IE, configured firewall to allow access in each case. Tried all available VPN locations and in every instance couldn't connect to internet with your software active, connects when software deactivated. To my mind the issue lies with the software. I appreciate you trying to help, but by my way of thinking if I obtain a piece of software, I accept that I might need to tweak it here and there to fine tune it, but having to waste nearly an hour and being unable to get it to work is simply not worth it. I dare say if I ran a diagnostics I'd be able to sort it out but don't have the time or the inclination to do so.

Most companies only log the 'direct' source of visitors, traffic, etc. Their webserver only logs, "this request came from this IP". If you used (for example) a German proxy server, getting the data from that server (assuming you were in a different country) would involve a lot of work and effort which most companies certainly wouldn't bother with - they have far better things to do.

Abbots Nightmare, that is the difference between VPNs who are required to keep logs and those that are not.

Those keeping logs are also required to share them freely with law enforcement if asked.

The ones in countries which do not require logs are the most private, but those countries may or may not be as safe as others for your credit card information! If buying one of those, get a prepaid card and you have the best way to pay for the most privacy.

In short, these things protect you from google and most targeted ads, but not from law enforcement!

You are right at some point. VPN is just another layer of security. 1) Use VPN server in country different from were you are 2) override your ISP DNS servers 3) Disable Flash, JAVA, WEBRTC +add plugin like NoScript in browser.

P.S. Seed4Me VPN nodes do not store any logs, they only receive and froward traffic.

Hello, Tregs here. Thanks for the giveaway. I have been using your app since a past giveaway on a different site & noticed that the desktop app cleared my default browser cache after first use. As a result I lost all bookmarks, default logins & previous weeks history without even getting to backup. Since then I uninstalled, switched default browser & reinstalled the app; now it does the same for a lesser used default browser. I appreciate a vpn doing that automatically as its the way should be but you gotta add a tick choice when first installed.

The app works fine & across all platforms. I tested & use on phone & home pc.

This is strange, because our VPN app doesn't have this function (thanks for idea).

When you connect to VPN, you IP (location) changes and some websites for security reasons may ask you to re-login. This may look like your cached logins has been cleared.

This is the most likely your case. If we had this function, we would never do this without a warning.

Hi, it could possibly be but default firefox 53 got like a factory reset & started as newly installed browser; & current default vivaldi is set in clear history anyway. I wondered if it was due to the app configured to start automatically in startup. Now I have unchecked the startup option, switched browser default & use when needed.
I only got back all data through previous day system restore.
