I downloaded this and activated it, but every time i open the program it says i have a 7 day trial, and asks me to buy the program. Has anyone else had this problem?

I also get problems with codes and installs on occasion. It is very annoying and I would think that the site would at least try to be user friendly. I visit this site often, thus know how it works. I do not think this was successful even after 4 tries, I quit.

I went to the bildsoft website and Contacted them. Told them that after many attempts to register/activate, I was about ready to give up.

They sent me a link to a refreshed version with a new password.
If you haven't got it, yet, try this and let them know the problems you had in activating your free GAOTD software & they can get you a new DL Version with a new password... why they didn't do that in the first place...

Why is it that the comments that praise something are usually bashed but the people who hate something get the +'s? Anyway, I'll be passing as I have no need for this. But as always, thanks and look forward to tomorrow GOTD!

What bunch of tightwads! Just buy RoboForm & quit trying to get something for nothing. I pay for it because it's great software, why not quit complaining and put money up, or shut up!

For some reason, we get the same clueless comments each time we get a program like this posted. The old "if it stops working we can't access our files". Well, duh!

1/ If you lose the program somehow and need access to your files, you can always download a demo copy of it and get your files back.

2/ Many of you seem quite out of touch with why the site is here. It is to give you a taste of the program and if you use/like it then you will turn around and purchase it. So that also is a way to solve your "problem".

The site isn't here to fill your hard drive with free programs that are completely unlimited in re-installation. Why don't more of you use some commonsense and understanding?

annoying- they should tell you to do this until you get one.... it was very frustrating for me.
hoping the product will be worth the effort.
thanks tho :)

Downloaded this just after midnight. Installation/activation went without a hitch. Encyrpted some files and a usb key. Took key to another computer and the system failed to decrypt. Tried decryting to a folder and to the same usb key. To folder it said decrypting and displayed the folder upon completion. Folder was empty! To USB key received an unhandled exception. Later in day went back to original computer to try with main program. Upon execution it responded with an invalid key error message. This was from a installation that properly installed and activated earlier! Uninstalled the program, downloaded the refresh, reinstalled, got key, received invalid key. I tried 50-60 keys (no exageration) on two different computers and consistently got invalid key.

Test files/USB key files are totally inaccessible (glad it was only a test). THANKS! |(

Need to be really, REALLY cautious with this one. Even if it activates it may fail later.

"(Roboform doesn't work with Opera, does with Firefox)"

Although RoboForm is a nice app for those that use Internet Destroyer, etc. Opera has no need for an addon program like this. Opera has it's own excellent built in one click login on the tool bar called "Wand." There would be no reason for RoboForm to support Opera... it's not needed. Wand is much better to begin with.

Beta

Hello All, I followed the link that Bidsoft (#68) furnished and downloaded the program. As they stated, I entered "giveaway" in the activation window and everything went fine. I went and activated Roboform, downloaded from their website the installer for Firefox and everything went fine. Have not yet used all the capabilities of the program, but so far so good. I Printed out the online manual (32 pages) and will continue to see how everything works after I read the instructions.

Thanks GAOTD...be back tomorrow.....

A follow-up to my first comment....

VERY buggy installation. (I have only now seen where there is an updated ("refreshed") version available, but due to all the time and energy I have already invested I think I will pass for now.

this is not meant to come across as a "what a piece of crap" kind of comment, so please do not read anything other than an effort to confirm that I, as apparently many others, have found the current version to be less than usable and thus not something I choose to pursue further at the present time. Future versions? Maybe.

I also want to thank BladedThoth (i read the review AFTER my own trials) for another excellent summation of the pros and cons of the days offering.

(P.S. My own problems were installng it with XP.)

One final word of thanks to all who have provided info on the various "freeware" alternatives out there.

according to http://www.bildsoft.com/en/securedna2007/                                                        "The strong and user-friendly encryption suite is now available for free download." Does this mean it is now available from this site or the companyhas just decided to give it away, OR even that thereis now a free trial available? iN any case, encrypting files can be done easily without the need for a paid program. Seems complete, but even so most thumbdrives (especially the u3 systems) have the ability to encrypt your data with a password, mainly because they have their own "firmware."

Why does this include Roboform which is another company's product???

Also, as others have said, this is the Free form of Roboform NOT the advanced Pro version. Anyone desiring the limited Free form of Roboform can do so at many sites WITHOUT the burden of also installing this encryption software. As far as encryption software, this one doesn't offer any features that make it better than many free encryption softwares that will always be available to re-install if necessary and which has free updates available.

#71 is right. #63 I didn't read your post, but I am just agreeing to the fact that maybe if somebody claims that they are only receiving free trials from GAOTD, then they likey are not installing the software correctly. Just ask anyone who is familiar and you will get help from those on here willing to help you. If anything I can say sometimes the software will/might still say DEMO in the Software Title Bar that is running, that might be because it is a limited Editions. It is just depending on what version software is given out that day. If you activate the software correctly, it will not expire on your pc, unless you format and restore your system or delete neccessary registry keys.

you sometimes have to request the id key from the website 5-6 times before you get a valid key. I had to request 4-5 keys before i got one that worked.

Encryption a little weak, given the powerhouse software out there. Offers less than PGP, even the freeware version offers much of this. Still, unless you are in the habit of transporting states' secrets or don't want anyone to find out about that secret marijuana greenhouse you have in the basement, this seems to be a decent package.

Once Bildsoft posted the updated version, I had no problem installing with the new directions. Pleasant enough to look at, the program runs smoothly (for me, for a change something from GAOTD is runnning without problems).

I also await a reply to the question raised by #75 : How long is this passcode good for? If a month from now I am forced to reinstall my system, will this new code work then as it does now on today's download? What about two years from now? Otherwise, downloading this becomes nothing more than an extended trial period.

I would not trust my important docs to this if some other tradgedy was exacerbated by a second tradgedy of not being able to get to those files without paying for the priviledge. Sorta like holding one's files hostage until one pays the ransom.

If I keep PGP, I have full access to my installed version (and some updates, too) for as long as I am alive. Others will find other freeware or may even buy this or something else. But, why would I switch to a program that may be inferior to what I am already using?

To Bildsoft:

I have been trying for the last 1/2 hour and even your 'new' download still gives you the invalid serial number. This is joke. You are a software developer and can't even get this right. You just lost a ton of business because you can't even participate in a give away. This even makes Roboform look bad, not just you.

I take this as a reflection on your actual product. If you can't do this, then I wonder how your product actually is or should I say isn't.

Why go through such a hassle to get a program to work? Once you get the first code word that should be all you need. Use one code word to get a second unlocking code is foolish!

I can not get this program registered - no mater if I go through all of the steps over and over or how I hold my mouth. Grab your left ear with your right hand > shake your head up and down > hold your right leg up and blow it out of your a__.

GAOTD please get a fix

#63: What are you talking about? I have not installed every day's giveaway (and not today's), but I have installed many of them over the past 9 months or so that I have been following GOTD daily. And I have never, ever encountered a trial version of GOTD giveaways that expired. Every GOTD offering has been an unlimited-time full version. Sometimes the software is no better (or even worse than) free alternatives — but it has never been a time-limited trial. Can you name examples you have encountered? Or perhaps you are not installing the giveaway software correctly?

I spent about 2 hours to install it!
First, every time I clicked on Setup.msi, AllMedia Grabber opened!
The .MSI extension was correctly tied to msiexec.exe, but nevertheless it didn't work.
Only after I uninstalled AllMedia I was able to continue the installation!!
Now I spent ONLY half an hour to understand that I had first to run Activate.exe and THEN Setup.msi !!!
I may not be very clever, but the help advise suggested the opposite way (first install and then activate).
It seems that this time GOTD didn't fully check the whole procedure.

TO #43 and #28: GAOTD does give software, most are trial versions that expire and leave all your hard work configuring the software and your system to be left in the dust back to square one with software you don't want on your computer anymore more than half the time. I HAVE FOUND A FEW GOOD PROGRAMS ON HERE NOW AND THEN. But most of the time, its trial period crap and not true GIVE AWAYS. I'm severly disappointed in GAOTD for that point in itself. I sound harsh and mean, but i'm just tired of GAOTD giving trial periods which is NOT giving anything away. They are wetting our whistles with programs to only let the software companies to have the trial period expire and then say ahhh haaa!!! we've got you now and now you must buy! That is not a give away.

Installed with no problems, activated with first code; however, Roboform installs the free version. According to Bildsoft SecureDNA website "It includes a full version of Roboform, the password manager leader product..." I'd love to know how to make this the full version as promised on the Bildsoft site. Rats and double rats!

Many commenters have recommended open-source TrueCrypt instead of proprietary software such as today's giveaway. This is reasonable advice, and open source software should be preferred. However, you have other free alternatives, including these examples:

AxCrypt from http://www.axantum.com/AxCrypt/Default.html (open source; 128-bit encoding; Vista-compatible)

PkWare SecureZip from http://www.securezip.com (freeware "for a limited time"); other Zip compression utilities can encrypt zipped files too.

Cryptainer LE from http://www.cypherix.co.uk/cryptainerle/index.htm (freeware; 128 bit; USB and Vista-compatible)

Kruptos from http://www.kruptos2.co.uk (freeware; 128 bit; USB-compatible; not tested with Vista)

EncryptOnClick from http://www.2brightsparks.com/onclick/eoc.html (freeware; 256 bit; USB-compatible; decrypt with WinZip; free version not for Vista)

Advanced File Security 3 from http://www.osborn-software.net (freeware; 256 bit; USB-compatible; not for Vista)

Each of these programs has its own advantages and shortcomings, so research your choices carefully.

I hope this is helpful.

I'm glad to have the opportunity to try out software before buying and to read the experiences of others. I always carry a USB stick with me - has backup of all my passwords, important files etc. I purchased an additional USB stick just to get a full version of the 448 bit AES encryption WinCrypt/CryptArchiver. The cost of the USB stick is less than the cost of the software and includes upgrades. If someone steals my laptop or I lose the USB stick... no worries... the data is inaccessible to anyone but me.... I wouldn't dream of trusting a free program to protect my data

Tried 5 different codes "invalid key message" then came here for more help. Saw the try again code for about 12 or 15 times post, and decided to try 1 more time. It finally worked.
I was NOT going to spent time entering codes into this program 15 times! That is too many tries.
