it doesn't work on Windows 7 64bit. You install it - launch program - Screen Capturing 3.0 has stopped working, before you even get to enter any key.

DL, installed & registered without problem. As with many GOTD offerings, Avast/AVG-type anti-virus must be suspended but MalwareBytes & anti-root kits do not.
No positives on VirusTotal.
Recording video was problem-free. The resolution was surprisingly good, just about matching the quality of the Youtube sources.
But audio was a no-go. Multiple attempts to record audio failed. There is an audio dialog box on the screen under Settings which supposedly allows audio to be toggled on & off. There are two options for audio input - microphone & virtual-audio-capturer. A "line" option must then be selected. The choice for mic is “Master Volume” only and for virtual-audio-capturer it's blank.
The program will not proceed unless a line option is selected displaying the message "Please select Audio line." Since there's no possible selection, in order to record video the audio box must be deselected. This apparent defect severely limits the usefulness of this program.

I have version 3.0.0.61 from a another offer. Since this offer is advertised as version 3.0, which is how the 3.0.0.61 version was advertised, this one may be the exact same, or possibly a larger minor version number. If it is the same, there is no need to install this offer. Could someone that has installed it see what version is displayed when the console is open, or check the "About" screen, or check the Properties of the executable and see if it shows a specific version number? I cannot find a single thing on the Bytescout website that informs users what version this is.

Gary,
So question is, Is it any good??

[ Gary ],
1 - You can always start a GOTD offer and see if it says the version before completing, then exit if you prefer not to continue.
2 - Yes, this is v3.0.0.61, same as on the web page, pro ( licensed ) version or free version.

Hadrianus, AVI is container format... It has nothing to do with old or not old. You can use the most modern codecs in it.

Peter Blaise,
Thanks for replying and apologies after asking a question, then found out I had to go cover an emergency situation, so just now getting back to the forum.
>You can always start a GOTD offer and see if it says the version before completing,
Yes, for some installs. The last time I installed, I captured each setup screen displayed, but the version number does not show up until the program actually starts. I always review the screen captures of past installs before installing a program again. That is why I asked if anyone else knew what version it was.
For me, the version 3.0.0.61 crashed as soon as it started, so I never got to see what it could do. I was hoping it had been improved to get past the initial problem. The result is that Windows itself reports:
ByteScout Screen capture has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.
Windows will stop the program and notify you if a solution is available.
Again, thanks Peter, and apologies too.

TK,
My apologies for such a late response; after asking I found out I had to step out all day, and just now getting back to the forum.
> simple question does the sound capture use DirectSound or WASAPI i.e. does it only capture sound from the systems discrete input pins or can it capture the systems sound output without a corresponding Input device showing up in Recording Devices GUI even if show hidden devices or show disabled devices is enabled in the context menu on the recording devices window?
Even worst is my reply; "I didn't get that far."
Since it stopped working as soon as I started to attempt to record, I never went back to the settings. Checking setting briefly right now, I see that audio can be checked or not. If checked, I get a choice for Device and Line. My Device choices are Microphone (Realtek High definition), virtual-audio-capturer, and Line (SupremeFX Hi-Fi (FS)). For Line, if I select Microphone or Line, I get a choice of Master Volume (otherwise empty).
The program could have been not much more than a demo of their Screen Capture SDK. It might have been a decent screen capture program if it has only worked. Thankfully, I have several others.
Again, apologies for such a late response.

Terry I,
>So question is, Is it any good??
Unfortunately, no ... at least for me. It failed as soon as it started on a Win 7 Pro x64 system; Windows reported the program has stopped working correctly; that is why I was hoping this was a fix of that bug. Someone else mentioned that it worked on Windows 10, and another mentioned it failed on Win7, so for some it might not work so well.
It doesn't seem all that long ago that having a program that could record anything on the screen was a valuable commodity to have in your toolbox, but these days, there are so many that do the very basics. Several have been given away here on GOTD. Even video converters and downloaders are starting to add a mode to record the screen. I started making a list of how many I had that could record the screen, and was surprised I had more than 2 or 3. I had around 18, and since that time, have added several more, plus some that I have not had the time to install. In other words, if this one didn't work for you, no big worry because there will be another one soon.
Most all record with the same quality (after all, it is recording the screen, so it sees what is sent to the video card). As long as the playback is on the same screen, you are not likely to notice much difference between the playback version and the source. Don't expect 4k from a 1920 resolution display.
Sorry, I was gone all day and could not answer your question sooner.

Hadrianus,
Unix is a operating system that was developed in the late sixties. It is still very usefull in business environments and parts of the initial code are even used in Linux.
I repeat, it's not because it's from the ninetees, that it's obsolete. That is a very simplistic vision you have.
In fact, a lot of new technology is initially developed ages ago...
It's your right to disagree to that, but in my humble opinion of ict-professional (with more than 35 years experience), you're wrong.
